North quietly walked into a large room filled three stories high with shelf after shelf of books. They lined every space available that wasn't already used for windows and fireplaces. He closed the door without a sound, so as not to alert the yetis of his location. North finally had time to him self after he made design after design for new toys for the upcoming Christmas seven months away, so he felt a small break was in order. North walked into a maze of bookshelves, lined with books of all genres and languages. He pasted the French, Chines, German, Latin, ancient Greek, Modern Greek, and Roman sections. Many of the older ones were on papyrus of parchment scrolls.
North came to a small alcove in the back were a big red chair sat next to a roaring fire blazing light blue. North did a double take on the fire for his were never hot enough to turn blue, and saw that is was not really that hot but frozen solid. North chuckled to himself as Jacks antics. He had welcomed the boy to his home nearly 4 months ago and since then North would come across small little pranks made by the mischief maker who would laugh as much as North did when North tried to reprimand him for his actions.
'The boy has definitely brought joy and fun to this place' North thought to himself as he went to pick up alarge leather bound book. It had a crimson cover and was easily 300 pages thick. North cracked it open and was about to go and sit in the red chair when a yawn was heard from that direction. North cautiously walked over to see if it was a sleeping elf, but saw not a small jingling elf curled up asleep on the chair. But a snowy haired teen, he sat curled on the cushion with his arms cuddling a thick book , North leaned in to see what Jack had been reading, thinking he grabbed something small and light, bound together with other stories. Though his eyes grew wide as he saw that it was not some simple child's story but rather the Les Misérables and the unabridged one at that! North was so surprised from Jacks choice of literature that he dropped his book, it landed with a resounding thud. Thus shaking the teen from his sleep.
Jack fluttered his eyes open and jumped out of the chair. He looked at North, who had a shocked expression, and then at the book on the floor. "Sorry,… I figure you probably didn't want me in here ruining all the books with my cold, I'll get out now." Jack said as he flew past North. Though not before North grabbed him by the hood.
"Not zo fast Jack. Why do you think I not want you in library?"
"Well cold and snow don't usually mix well with books, especially some as old as these," Jack said as he looked longingly at the ancient texts wishing he was able to touch them.
"Jack, my boy," North said looking at Jack with a sad smile, "I let you have whole house to use ,and that includes the library, as they zay, your house is my house." North said with a pat on Jacks back, which caused said winter sprite to stumble forward a bit.
"I think you mean my house is your house." Jack said with a slight chuckle
"Eh. iz same thing," North said with a shrug as he sat in the arm chair with his book. "Now what brings you to library? We never thought you much of liking reading. I believe Bunny does not even think you could read." North asked.
Jack looked a little peeved and then calmed down. "I came in here to hide from Bunny actually, prank gone right, or in Bunny's case a bath gone wrong." Jack said with a mischievous smirk on his face, North thought better if he just dropped that question that he wanted to ask. "And I have always like reading, even when I was human, and when you spend three hundred sum years with very little to do outside of weather, you tend to pick up a few things." Jack said.
"Like what?"
"Oh, like learning languages and finding even better stories to read." Jack told.
"Stories are good, have you ever read this one?" North said as he lifted his book.
"The complete works of Hans Christian Anderson?! Awesome!" Jack exclaimed as he raced towards North and placed his book forgotten by the frozen fire. "I love reading them, they never get old."
"Yes, yes fairy tales never get old." North agreed. "Witch one is your favorite?"
"It's a tossup between the little mermaid and the Snow Queen." Jack said sheepishly.
"both very good, but it iz an odd combination of favorites, No?"
"Yeah I know but I love them both. The message at the end of the little mermaid is really funny when you think of it, and the whole deal with the snow queen. Though Disney really messed them up."
North cocked one eyebrow.
"well you know those stories! Surely you know how much Disney messed them up!" Jack said annoyed
"Yes, but I have yet to see the movies."
"Well the little mermaid, gets her prince instead of becoming that angel thing and she doesn't feel the needles in her feet like she should! They don't even use the message at the end of the story!" Jack ranted.
"And what about the snow queen?" North asked.
"Oh, don't even get me started on that! They didn't even follow the plot line of that one! The made the villain a missed understood heroine! Though she was kinda hot, especially with the winter powers of hers…" Jack said his cheeks slightly blue. North just chuckled at this. Just before North was about to ask about this movie a loud "JACK!" echoed through the halls.
"Well looks like Aster Found me, I best get going or it won't be pretty" Jack said as he jumped up into the air and laying his book down on the table next to him. "I'll come back and finish this book; I really hope Jerad doesn't arrest Jean Valjean. Well see ya North!" Jack shouts as he leaves through a window high up, closing it gently behind him. Just as the light click of the lock was hard the other door banged open and a bright magenta bunny came rushing in. North could not hold his laughter in for longer than a second, and started laughing till he couldn't breathe.
