Chapter 21
Hiccup pov
"We're almost there bud; see the volcano is just over there"
Toothless groaned at the thought of travelling even farther. We had travelled all morning just to get to the volcano and now finally we'll be able to confirm if it's the nest.
"Bud if we find it we're going to need to kill it. You ready?"
Toothless roared in response and rushed to the volcano
We can't let anyone else get caught up in this
A screech was heard from our left and we saw a group of Monstrous Nightmares fly into a cave. Just like the time with Astrid we followed the dragons through a cave system into the heart of the nest. Looked the same as the last nest; bleak and oppressing.
"Alright, bud here we g-"
"So what's the plan Hiccup?"
We jumped and turned to see Merida and Wildfire just behind us
"Merida?! What on earth are you doing here?" I whispered
"Well you obviously knew that the death was going to be in the volcano, so we ditched MacGuffin. Come on, we can take it" she retorted
"Did you forget what happened last time?"
"No, but we're better now. We know what to expect, right girl?"
Wildfire nodded in agreement. From the looks on the faces I'm not going to convince them otherwise. So much for not getting anyone else involved.
"Fine we have to…"
A great roared shook the cavern and the dragons went wild. Flying and shooting fire in every direction. The Red Death knew we were here and was making the dragons deal with us.
"These dragons are mad Hiccup"
"The Red Death is controlling them. We have to get out of here"
"Back the way we came we can't fight the Death and all these dragons"
We had barely escaped the nest the number of dragons was overwhelming. More than I ever see in the other nest. Once we got away from there we flew straight back to the castle for the rendezvous. When we landed we went to the forge to find MacGuffin, Dingwall, and Macintosh there waiting for us.
MacIntosh stated "We found nothing Hiccup what about you?"
"Hiccup found the nest" Merida proclaimed
"Bravo Hiccup"
MacGuffin asked "It's at the volcano?"
Merida said "Yep, along with every other dragon"
"Ha, now we can strike back" MacIntosh exclaimed
"Aye, now we can-"
Dingwall was interrupted by loud shouts echoed from the courtyard. Man I thought dragons were noisy. You could bring down the castle with that.
"What's all that shouting?" Merida asked
"That would be Lord MacIntosh and Lord MacGuffin arguing with your parents once last time to see sense"
We turned to see Lord Dingwall standing there looking cross as ever.
Merida stepped forward "What are you doing here Lord Dingwall?"
"I'm here on behalf your fathers to ask you one last time to join you clansmen in battle to defend our home."
MacIntosh stated "We are protecting our home, in our own way"
He exclaimed "No! That Vikings way, not our way."
Merida stated "His way is ours now."
Merida and Lord Dingwall glared at each other
"Fine then, but we will show that you are wrong" Dingwall threw his weapon that I made on the ground. "We have cast aside those despicable tools the Viking made and we will show you that DunBroch can triumph over any threat. Whether it be Viking or dragon"
He walked away from us. I can't help but feel that in my attempt to save DunBroch from dragons that I instead had torn apart families. When lord Dingwall walked around the corner Dingwall ran after him.
"Dingwall!" Merida yelled
I responded "Leave him Merida. It's family, that's something they need to deal with themselves"
Lord pov
"Stubborn bunch if fools" MacIntosh exclaimed
The three lords are argued with Fergus till night fall. When they realized they could not talk sense into him they left in a huff.
"Aye, that Hiccup's silver tongue has charmed beyond reason" MacGuffin
"But not us" Dingwall stated
"If only we knew where the beast nested"
"Oh but we do MacGuffin" Dingwall teased
"You old troll what is it you know?"
"Well after a wee talk with my lad he told me where it is. In the volcano no less" Lord Dingwall proclaimed
"Of course, those beasts love fire." Macintosh claimed
MacGuffin laughed "Aye, it's a good thing your lad stayed behind"
"Good thing you lad had enough sense to see he was in the wrong"
MacGuffin said "Good now we can go kill it with good old DunBroch strength"
MacIntosh replied "And when we do our lads and Merida will come to their senses and we won't have to deal with any more of this dragon nonsense"
"And we'll be rid of that Hiccup"
