Hello, hope all is well. This chapter was supposed to be much longer, but I have not yet finished it entirely and so the next chapter will be a continuous of this chapter. Hope you all enjoy and to those who tweet me as they read, thank you and thank you allfor reading and sticking with this story, I know it is not always easy on the heart and soul.
Song: 'Two Steps From Hell - Clairvoyant.
X
She finds him.
Broken. Beaten. Burned.
He sleeps in a corner with no clothes, no light, and no food. She hears the sound of the whips hitting his skin but she doesn't hear him scream, the sound of his chain hitting against the wall as they strike him with force, the smell of his skin being burned; her screams of mercy falling on deaf ears as she watches the blood roll down Fitz's motionless cheek.
She watches her father laugh in the corner of the dark cell, proud that he has destroyed not only a man's life but his hope.
His head turns coldly towards Olivia and smiles proudly at her for obtaining the soul he has always wanted yet never been able to claim "thank you, Olivia." Rowan says happily as he laughs at Fitz's lifeless body being pulled apart.
/
She jumps up, her skin is clammy, her breathing erratic, her heart breaking. Every night she closes her eyes and she is haunted with the same dream but only her nightmare does not end when she opens her eyes. Fitz is still missing and her premonitions are not simple dreams but warnings of what is happening and what will come. Olivia can't shake the feeling that death was imminent and every day that passed only brings her closer to the day her father will gift her with Fitz's decapitated head.
Fitz will never be free as long as he stays here and waits for her, even with nothing left, her father will still take from him whatever he can absorb-strength, power, wealth and he knows as long as she is here with him, Fitz will forever be bound to him.
The morning dew clouds the grass. She inhales the cold crisp air before slowly exhaling, watching the thin mist dissipate into the sky. Olivia looks up at the firmament and sees the array of colors, hoping that somehow he too is seeing the sky and the moon that was once shining brightly slowly fade away.
Time has not healed her open wounds; her wounds are as open and as jagged as ever. She pulls her cloak tightly around her neck as she scouts the area, hoping to track his movements.
She starts a fire and begins to travel by foot. Olivia finds him, his scent still fills area yet like the elusive man she loves her tracking's go cold as though Fitz disappeared but she knows better. Her father gave her this to keep her occupied while he handles Fitz away from her.
She wipes her tears quickly, angry with herself for being a fool when it came to her father, how could she be so naive and see what was happening right under her nose… and her father- there is no time table for how long he has been aware of her and Fitz yet he condoned the relationship because it gave him what he wanted- to control Fitz by using her.
She slams the door as Rowan looks up at her happily, "I see you have been busy- have you found him this time?" Rowan asked mockingly, toying with Olivia's hardship.
She feels the beating of heart pounding in her ears as she glares at the man she once thought loved her.
Rowan grabs his goblet as he looks at his enraged daughter "Olivia, I have a proposition for you."
"No" she says firmly
He takes a sip of the sweet nectar before responding "You do not even know what I was going to request of you."
"The answer will still be no."
"So you don't wish to see him?" Rowan questions
Her arms are folded; her head facing away from him yet the mere mention of 'him' has her resolve quickly dissolving.
"You can see him, if you do what I ask."
She screams 'yes' internally, she feels herself falling on her knees with hopes of seeing him again but she can't and refuses to let her heart be swayed by a man whose only purpose in life is to suit his needs and wants.
"How" She turns around to look at him
"You are to be married-"
"No" She begins to walk out the room
"Olivia" Rowan shouts "This is not up for negotiation. You are going to be married"
"I'm going to find him and when I do, I will marry who I choose and I promise you it will not be whoever you pick." Olivia seethes as she moves closer to her father. She is tired of living in fear, she is tired of being the cause of Fitz's demise, and her father cannot hurt her more than what she already done to herself.
"Oh, you are marrying Grey Horse-" Rowan mocks
"I am marrying the man I love."
"The man you love does not exist! You stupid little girl, you love a monster and he loves nothing or no one in return."
"If I love a monster then I have nothing to fear." Olivia lifts her chest high as she stares at her father, no longer will she shield and coward from his cold tongue and disheartening eyes.
"You are going to be married and when you give birth to an heir, I will give you him as my gift to you. Olivia, you can have him wherever and however you like and I will make sure your head remains intact. But you will obey and you will give your king a son."
She looks down at her feet as she contemplates her options, if she marries another and bears his child- then they could be free. What is worse to whore herself to a man- remove her pride, her garments, her dignity in order to be with the one she loves or does she refuse and risk watching him part from this world once in for all.
"Obey, and I will bless you immensely- disobey…" He shakes his head as though afraid of what he would do in that situation "And you will wish for death to come."
"I want to see him" Olivia stops Rowan from walking out the door
"Later"
"If I do this, then I need to tell him. He needs to understand-" her foot makes a small circle as she avoids the image that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Fitz will believe that she is abandoning, that she gave up on him. Rowan walks out the door without saying a word.
It's raining- the world is flooded and the remaining pieces of her soul and heart have drowned and become one with earth. A life that was once promising has decayed and with it trust and faith are buried beneath the soul. The indefinite suspension she finds herself in; the coil that draws her love near and drives her love away.
"Olivia" She turns around and frowns at the impending figure walking to her in the pouring rain.
"Jake" She voices; she is tired, wet and cold yet she can't stop looking for him. How can she give up on her love when he has never given up on her?
"Are you alright?" He is out of breath, he saw her distancing figure walk in the forest as a storm rages on. He bows his head in shame at watching Olivia mourn a killer, Jake finds himself questioning the call he made. Yes, it took Menelaus out of the equation physically but his emotional presence still lingers around Olivia. As long as Menelaus draws breath he will always stand in between him and Olivia.
She shakes her head pitifully "Do not ask me such foolish question, Jake"
He takes a good look at her, she is still as beautiful as ever; even with the rain splashing against her skin- she is luminous yet there is no light- not anymore. Her eyes once a golden brown that could light the shadows of hades are now bare, her smile that could cease a storm and unleash a rainbow; now falls into the deep abyss.
"What happened, Olivia; as your friend tell me the truth, what is hurting you."
His eyes find her and it is only then that she unleashes her truth; their truth that only she and him know. "I mourn a man who was mistaken for a god. I love him and he loves me and we found love in a world incapable such notion. But we did fall in love" she pauses for a moment as she recounts her few moments of bliss "I did." She says
She turns and continues on her walk as Jake travels behind, allowing Olivia this moment to voice her inner thoughts and not fear repercussion.
"I look for him- day and night and he comes to me…" her voice cracks as her body begins to shake "He comes to me in my dreams and he tells me 'it's okay' with his assuring smile" Olivia's shaking intensifies as she clenches a tree for strength she does not feel she has "He looks at me and tells me that he will be waiting for me in the afterlife when the moon and the sun finally meet." Her hand covers her mouth to stop her sob.
Jakes falls silent; stunned by Olivia's passionate words that struck his heart and soul in ways he did not find it imaginable.
"And because he loves me and I him- we are both cursed by our love and indefinitely bound to a life filled with pain because as long as he is the moon and I the sun there will always be a world between us." Olivia explains softly as her voice is cracked with dryness.
Why must the good suffer and the wicked thrive; why do such actions exist in life?
He holds her and she willingly falls in his arms as she closes her eyes and pictures him, she's been without him for so long that she has forgotten what it feels to be in his arms- his arms wrap around her so heavily yet they don't over power her, his arms are a cool, dry place that leaves her mind at peace and her guard down because she knows; without a shadow of doubt that he will protect her- if someone or something were to try and hurt her- he would save her from the wreckage.
"Olivia, it will be alright. I will keep you safe, he won't hurt you anymore" Jake hush in Olivia's ear as the rain drowns his words but Olivia hears him clearly.
She removes herself from his arms as she stares at him as though it is her first time actually seeing him. "You know" Olivia does not ask but she states it, Jake is aware of her relationship with Fitz.
"I know" he says indifferently but every step he makes towards Olivia she makes a step back.
"You manipulated me" she says softly as she slowly backs away from him, never taking her eyes off the man she once thought was her friend.
"I love you" Jake shouts as the rain quiets his declaration "I have always loved you Olivia, and you love him."
Her face becomes disgusted as she shakes her head at him for his ill intentions "You wanted this to happen. If you loved me then you would have supported me."
"I see you" Jake moves closer to Olivia in hopes that she can hear what he is saying to her "I see how you mourn him and you never thought the same of me…the man you love is not a man-" Olivia walks away tired of being told who she loves is the wrong person or a monster. She finds it painfully comical that Fitz is the monster yet he is the one beaten and caged in a cell.
"Olivia, I have seen him in the darkness of the night and there is nothing kind in his eyes. He is a monster and yet your heart still beats for him." His voice fades out as he can't understand how a man like Menelaus can claim the heart of someone loved by all. Olivia is mortal goddess who could have it all- power, wealth, distinction, she could have a king yet she loves a slave, a commoner. Perhaps that is the biggest joke the universe has played.
"You know where he is at" Olivia ignores Jake's previous statement, her heart will not be swayed she knows the truth.
"I do"
"Take me to see him" Olivia demands marching towards Jake as he backs away
"Olivia…" he warns
"I want to see him. I demand to see him. I've earned the right to see him so you bring him to me, now." Olivia yells as thunder shakes the ground beneath them.
"Olivia, I can't" Jake pleads "That is out of my power and control"
"You speak of him as a monster and that he does not carry true power yet what do you have, Jake?" Her arms are folded as she sizes Jake up "He may be a monster but at least he has shown his love for me, what have you done but coward behind my father…" Olivia snarls at the weak man
"He is not the only one in a cell." She walks away leaving an emotionally and physical stunned Jake in the rain.
/
She plays with soft petals from a flower as she contemplates her inevitable departure; if she were to throw her tears into the sky will Fitz be able to correlate her tears into a map and find her? Would he forgive her for having to leave, would he come and find her or will time heal his wounds? And her once prominent touch will disappear into a faint memory before finally easing away from his conscious. She eyes the beautiful jewel, the ring was extravagant, by far the largest jewel she has ever seen or bestowed, she can't decide whether the heaviness of the ring is due to the jewel itself or the emotional toil it carries with her.
Her hands reach behind her neck to unclasp her necklace that holds the ring she keeps close to her chest, she has never parted from her ring and if she were to be completely truthful, Olivia does not feel she would be able to ever part from it. The ring holds no value or connection to Fitz but the ring comforts her- a physical reminder of the love she had to leave. Her right hand wipes her tears as she has nothing to remember Fitz by- no locket of hair, no jewel, all she will have is the time they spent together and that will do-it must.
The memories are too real; too raw.
She replays the moment they met, how the stars allied in the sky so that she could see him, how inside of him she found her kindred spirit- the person who will forever change her output on life and love. Her hands reach up shakenly to touch her lips and faintly she can still feel his cold lips pressed to hers. She curses the gods for loving him and yet she can't help but give thanks to them for blessing him to cross her path because without the pain of losing him she would have never experienced the pleasure that comes with his love.
The memories took a shape of their own- good and bad, sweet and sour; all of these memories must be suppressed in order to prevent them from consuming her. She mourns Fitz in private, she mourns the memories they share, and she mourns the life they were never destined to have.
True love never occurs at the right time, but in a flashing moment, the planets collided creating an explosion of sorts that will forever change the dynamic of their system, but as quickly as they crashed together the planets become no more but particles flying in orbit, waiting until the next collision when they become one once again.
"Olivia"
She does not turn to greet the intruder or acknowledge his presences.
"Olivia."
She breaths heavily before responding "yes"
He moves to sit beside her in the garden "he lives".
Olivia's lips begin to tremble; her breath becomes visible as she lets out a heavy sigh. She turns to Stephen with optimism as her eyes closes in rejoice to stop happy tears from falling. As long as Fitz draws breath there will always be hope for them.
"I need to see him." She grabs Stephen's hand tightly in plea of mercy on her soul.
"Olivia"
"Please"
"He is not alone." Her smile falters, she is unsure what to make of such vague statement; are their others like Fitz; is he happy, is he safe, has he finally found the peace he has always longed for.
"Okay" she replies unsurely
"He has found others that your father has kept hidden and beaten." Olivia averts her eyes to the ground ashamed that she not only bares the same name but the same blood as the ruthless man who will never be her father again. "He's found them and now he stays with them to protect them from him." She smiles at Stephen as happily as she can. Fitz fighting for the good of others even if it is his detriment- she is proud of him, proud of the man so many do not see and never will.
"Is he hurt?" she whispers softly as she looks around for others prying, with Jake sudden betrayal she sees that she is in a garden filled with snakes.
"His body is broken so that theirs will heal."
"Why does he feel he must atone for his guilt; hasn't he suffered enough?" Olivia asks with a pained expression. She paused for a moment before adding "That is what makes him strong- he's willing to sacrifice himself for others…that's why they love him." She pulls a strand of grass from its root "that is why I love him. He belongs to no one and nothing, my wild moon." She shakes her head abruptly before rising "I fear our time is running out" She hands Stephen a note "Give this too him, I will not be here much longer…" her voice fades out as her hand shakenly reaches to give Stephen her note.
"Olivia-"
"I am to be married- my father is holding him captive for my obedience. He claims he will free him once I produce an heir but I know better." She whispers
"Then why marry?"
She laughs without humor "I do not marry for love or freedom- I am doing this to save him. As long as I am here, my father will always control him through me- I want more for him." Olivia feels her stomach clench but she straightens her back as she lifts her head proudly "He was never meant to be caged- but with this marriage he will be free. I will hear the stories of him through the grapevine and a smile will proudly be plastered on my face for knowing and loving him."
"You're giving him up."
"No" Olivia says simply "I am releasing him so that he can answer his calling."
"He loves you" Stephen pleads
"And I him" Olivia says tenderly "My love for him transcends life and death, I will love him in this life and the next but will not sit here and watch him die- I will not destroy him; I'm freeing him."
Olivia forces the note in Stephens hand as she makes her leave.
"Stephen" Olivia ask turning around
"Yes, Olivia."
"Give him this message for me." He nods his head but when he turned to look at Olivia, she was already gone.
/
He lies on the cold pavement, weakened but his resolve strengthened, with every break and splint of his bones they heal faster, stronger, durable. He smiles at the kids happily as their faces begin to full, he shakes hands with the men and women who bow to him, he hands them his plate of food that he won with winning his battles.
Rowan assumed that he would fall but he has risen, his blood drips from his back, his eyes are swollen with an array of color; with every breath he takes he feels his ribs being ripped apart and the air in his lungs being removed but he closes his eyes and he catches a glimpse of her in the morning- how her hair covers her entire face, how inside the iris of her eyes contains the sun and suddenly air fills his lungs once again at the thought he may see her.
He enters.
Fitz moves to the door of cell.
"I have a proposal for you." Rowan says happily as he ignores the impassive look of Grey Horse's face.
"We will be traveling to meet a king and he has heard the stories of you and so you will perform for him."
"Where is the proposition?" Grey Horse ask coolly
Rowan turns pleased that he has spoken after months of silence "if you don't obey then what you fail to do will be done to her."
Grey Horse nods his head in understanding as Rowan takes his leave once again. His breathing becomes ragged as he grips the bars and imagines pulling them apart and killing Rowan, and burying with the devil his demons that lure him to the dark side of the world.
With damnation he has found salvation- how precious life truly is and the unequivocal phenomenon that comes with love.
He smiles as the old lady comes to home.
"I am to be leaving soon."
She nods her head in understanding that a warrior must go places that he does not wish to go but must for the safety of others.
"I will have to perform."
"Then this task shall come easy for you." She says simply as Grey Horse turns to give her his undivided attention. "You've perfected the disguise and worn your mask for so long that you do not know who you are."
"I know who I am. I know what must be done and I know what I must do. I was born for this and I will die for it." His voice is firm, he has prolonged his stay for as long as possible and the time has come where he must end his war once in for all.
"Nothing in life is permeant, young warrior- not even death."
/
They sat in silence for several minutes, as the rain drums against the walls.
"Menelaus."
He motions Stephen to an empty corner as they are separated by meager bars.
"She is not doing well." Stephen rushes out.
Grey Horse heaved a great sigh as he looks at Stephen suddenly tired "What happened."
"We spoke briefly, she demands to see you. She searches for you, every day." His shoulders become straight as he smiles softly at Olivia fighting for him.
"Never underestimate a woman, Stephen. Olivia is stronger than what she appears."
"She asked me to give this to you" he hands him the note before walking away to give him space.
He breathes in the letter and he smells her perfume – the smell of lavender and vanilla infiltrates his nostrils sending him into another dimension-he's home.
He reads the letter, painfully slow, reading every word and diction. Grey Horse doesn't respond at first, but he listens to the sound of his breaking heart. He has always pushed Olivia and been the one to leave and now he is the one that is left.
"She's letting me go." Grey Horse says sadly as he cradles the note in his hands.
"I'm sorry." Stephen pauses for a moment "I know that you love her."
"I do" He whispers "and now I must let her go."
"Why aren't you stopping her?"
He stares at the window before gathering his thoughts "My calling contradicts hers; Olivia is giving up and I do not have the time to stop her. This is for the best." His voice becomes cold as he turns to stare at Stephen "I was born into the wilderness- do you believe someone like myself can possibly leave all this behind."
"What do you have?"
"My people."
"You can have her too." Stephen pleads "she mourns you, the light in her eyes is extinguishing."
"The sun sets but it shall always rise." He walks away from Stephen. This conversation with Stephen has bought much clarity to his cause and task. His infatuation with Olivia has clouded his judgement, made him soft in areas that were once firm but basking in her love gave Fitz understanding of the ways of the living- how their life is filled with faith and hope.
His heart is heavy that Olivia gave up on their fight in order to live a life filled with kids and happiness. His blood pumps with discontent, he came here for her- he has stayed here just to be certain that she still draws breath; that she is safe…he would have stayed here for the rest of his life if it meant he could catch a glimpse of her in passing but he sees now that he asked to much of her.
Creature created by the wilderness and ruthlessness of man, he was born into a world where only the strong survive, in the darkness he has found his way but foolishly he saw a light and believed that light could help him on his journey but he was deceived and so he lifts his head high- his shoulders pull back, his chin raised proudly.
Without Olivia he has become fully committed to his cause- his true calling that he has tried to ignore. He was swept in her light and her love that he forgot what his fight was about before she can. In her presences he had forgotten who he was, where he came from, and what he was sent to accomplish.
Olivia will forever be his favorite dream, a dream where he can close his eyes and forget who he was and who he could have been, she clouded his reasoning - distracted him from his true task. Her kindness, her innocence, her love- are all infectious and alluring, she bewitched him and toyed with the remaining fragments of his heart but the only problem was that she never undone the spell after she was through.
As Stephen makes his exit he remembers one important message "Olivia wanted me to tell you 'May we meet again.'"
Grey Horse turns to stare at Stephen, momentarily affected by Olivia's words but then he remembers and his eyes darken as he walks away. If Olivia wishes to leave then he will respect her choice and pray for safe travel and peace because once he unlocks the door Olympus will fall and life as they all know it will be over.
/
"Are you ready Golden One?" Rowan watches the women cover Grey Horse in Gold paint, he notices a change in him, his stance and demeanor are colder, and he chuckles softly to himself at seeing his final transformation. Rowan knew somehow that Olivia would be able to deliver her message to him. Once again, he wins. Olivia will be far away and safe from him, and he would have his greatest weapon back, stronger than ever before.
"I am ready."
"Who are you-" Rowan asked
"Nobody" His eyes never move or soften as he stares straight at ahead.
"Where will you go-" Rowan circles the cage
"Nowhere"
"What do you want-"
"Nothing"
"Who do you love-"
"No one" Grey Horse says dangerously even as his eyes narrowed.
Rowan walks into the cell, placing a golden mask on Grey Horse's face and a sword in his hand proudly "Let the games begin." Rowan says excitedly.
Losing the battle comes with sacrifice but victory is imminent as the war has only just begun.
"Lets" Grey Horse agrees walking out of the cell without ever looking back.
