"What do you mean you're leaving" Max exclaimed desperately

"I mean that I'm leaving Holby Max"

"Why? where are you going?" Max asked getting even more desperate, he took step towards her reaching out but pulled back when she responded by taking a step back away from him.

Zoe sighed rubbing her face with her hands she knew that this was going to be hard but now that it was happening she found it was harder than she ever thought it would be "I can't do this anymore Max, seeing you every day and knowing that we can't be together again" Zoe rushed out feeling the tears start to gather in her eyes "It just hurts too much Max" Zoe choked out and she was certain that she now had tears streaming down her face.

"Please Zoe, you can't go the only thing that keeps me sane about not being able to be with you is the fact that I get to see you all the time" Max started walking towards her again but this time Zoe didn't move just stared at him "You mean everything to me Zoe"

"Max, please don't you're making this harder for me" Zoe breathed out.

"I haven't finished Zoe" Max said taking another step touching so they were just about touching but not quite.

"No Max I can't do this, you cannot do this to me now because I know what you're about to do" Zoe screamed at him through her tears and started to hit him on the chest "I know that you're just going to say that you still love me and expect me to change my mind and we'll have a happily ever after"

Max grabbed her wrists to stop her from hitting him and she screamed at him even more "That's not going to happen Max you don't get to do that, not anymore you blew that happily ever after that for once was going to work out for me. The one time I didn't ruin it".

Zoe had started to full on sob now and Max pulled her into his arms which she fought at first but eventually gave in and let all of her emotions go while being cradled in Max's arms. After a few minutes Zoe pushed away and wiped her eyes looking up at her.

"I know that this isn't what you want to hear Zoe but I need you to know before you do leave" Zoe acknowledged what he was about to do and started to back away until Max grabbed her wrists holding her in place.

"Zoe I still love you and you know I do, I need you to know that you will always be the love of my life and no matter how much it hurts me that if this is what is best for you I will let you go"

Max leant in towards her and placed his lips on hers. Zoe isn't sure what came over her whether it was pure shock or the fact that she still had feelings for Max that she couldn't let go but she kissed him back.

Zoe pulled away and looked at him for a second ad then pulled herself out of his grip and ran out of his apartment with fresh tear streaming down her cheeks.
