Chapter 21
Awamori looked through Shiho's research files. Since she had ran away from the syndicate, he had taken over. Even though, he was talented in the science field, Shiho and her parents were much better than him. He tried different ways to create the drugs that the boss so longed for it but in vain.
However, Awamori got hope, when he had found out that Shiho and Kudo Shinichi had shrunk, because of Shiho's drug. In addition, it turned out that Sanda Moriko was seventeen now, even though she should be over thirty.
He wondered how Moriko had escaped. Had she caused the fire or maybe she had gotten help from somebody? And how had she ended up adopted by the police?
While Awamori was pondering on all those questions, he had opened another file. He had seen this file before. It showed the list of different substances that could be used to create the drug. However, it said this data were not accurate. Awamori had tried different methods to create the drug by using those substances. None of them had worked. He looked through the list again and suddenly, he got a new idea. He moved to the chemical table and started mixing some substances together. I hope it works.
Jodie griped the piece of paper in her hand as she watched the black Porsche drove away. She had been grateful to Kir that she had convinced Gin to leave, as he could lose unconsciousness any time due to the bullet. In addition, FBI wouldn't follow them.
Camel took out his phone and called ambulance for Heiji as Jodie started to give Heiji first aid.
James, Ran, Kogoro and two other FBI agents ran towards them. Ran had tears in her eyes. "What will happen to Conan?" Her eyes shifted toward the car and she noticed Jodie helping Heiji who was bleeding pretty badly. "Oh my god, Hattori-kun! Will he be all right?" Next Ran noticed the dead body of the FBI agent and screamed.
"I already called the ambulance. They will be here any minute," Camel responded. "Unfortunately, we can't help Jack." Camel tightened his fists.
"They better hurry up," Jodie said.
"Can someone explain me who was shooting at us! Why that Osaka kid is shot! Why FBI's here! Why-" Kogoro had to stop all his questions, because of his phone that rang.
"Inspector Megure? What is it?" After few seconds of silence Kogoro's eyes widened with unbelief as he shouted, "What! How's that possible he's dead! What about that little girl? Do you think she was taken?" Kogoro listened to some more, then he spoke again. "I don't know why but I'm with FBI and some people were shooting at us! Osaka Chief's son got shot and Conan got kidnapped. Do you think those cases are connected?"
Jodie could hear Megure shouting from the other side of phone. "FBI! Why FBI's with you!"
"I don't know! I don't even know how I find myself here. Last thing I remember is going to bed. What? You want to talk with FBI?" Kogoro passed his phone to James.
Jodie moved closer to James and gave the piece paper that she had received from Kir. James unfolded it and saw the address on it. Both James and Jodie figured that it must the address where Conan and Kazuha had been taken and hopefully Ai too.
"Hello, I am Black James, a FBI agent. I understand this must be difficult to understand. I promise we all will explain everything." James said to Megure where they are exactly. "We're just waiting for the ambulance for Hattori-san – I can hear the sirens. Yes, the ambulance is here. Yes, I will inform his parents... I'm afraid she was taken together with Conan... like I said I will explain everything. I also need to mention one of our FBI agents got killed. See you soon, Inspector."
The Ambulance took Heiji. James told the paramedics he would call his father and that the police was on its way. The paramedics didn't have time to stick around as like they said Heij's life was in danger.
After five minutes, Megure with Takagi, Sato, Shiratori and Chiba arrived at the scene.
"Explain everything." Megure demanded as soon as he left his police car. Shiratori and others went to investigate the dead body.
"I guess I can't hide the truth any longer and I apologise for lying." James keep his voice calm. "We FBI are not here on vacation, but to investigate the criminal syndicate that is running for decades. They were the ones who killed professor Agasa, kidnapped Ai-chan, Conan-kun and Kazuha-san. They are also responsible for the countless of deaths."
"What? Kazuha-san was kidnapped, as well? And why am I hearing about this now!" Megure shouted.
"That's right." Sato nodded. "It's Japan, we police should be involved. You should not hide something that big from us."
"My sincerely apologies. The criminal syndicate works in secret. They cover their tracks perfectly from the police. We don't know how they would react if the police would find out about them since they wanted to stay hidden. They know about FBI being on their tails and trust me they're not afraid to kill us. Imagine if the police would openly try to catch them. They would definitely try to kill every police officer that would come in their way."
"We're not afraid of some lousy criminals. Don't think so low of us!" Megure's eyes flickered with anger.
"I apologise Inspector Megure that not what I meant. Also, the members of this criminal syndicate are not lousy. They highly professional."
"I don't care-"
"Why would they kidnap Ai-chan, Conan-kun and Kazuha?" Takagi asked with the concern. Megure shot a glare to him for interrupting him.
"We – we don't know," James answered.
"We need to find clues of where they could be taken." Megure's gaze shifted towards Kogoro. "Mouri, why are you in your pyjamas?"
"I told you I don't remember anything since I went to bed."
Megure turned to James. "Don't even think about stopping us police from getting involved."
"I guess I won't have a choice do I?" James smiled. "Actually a CIA agent who works undercover in the criminal organisation secretly gave us this address. Most likely where Conan, Ai and Kazuha are."
"All right, let's go!" Megure ordered.
"No to so fast." James stopped him. "Like I said they're professional. We can't go there without a plan. I suggest to go to the police station and form a plan."
"Don't act like a boss just because you're FBI," Megure snorted.
"I think we should go to the police station right away," Sato said, "Longer we here more chances of Conan, Ai and Kazuha losing their lives. Let's not waste our time!"
"Right! Will Hattori-kun be all right?" Megure asked, concern in his eyes.
"I'm afraid he's life in danger. I called his dad, however I told him to stay put as other members of this criminal syndicate may go after him and Kazuha's parents as well."
"Should I even ask why? But then do you think Hattori Heizo-san, Kazuha's parents will just stay still after they found about their kids in danger?"
"I don't know. I talked to Hattori-san over the phone and he seemed to agree with me it's better for him and Toyama-san to stay in Osaka, though I had to promise him that Heiji and Kazuha will be safe."
"Do you think you can keep that promise?" Megure asked with a serious voice.
"I have to."
"Okay, let's go. Mouri-san, we'll have a spare suit that you can wear. We'll definitely need your help. Ran-san-"
"Don't even think to ask me to go home. It's Shi- Conan, Ai and Kazuha we're talking about and I won't sit at home and do nothing."
Megure must notice fire of determination in Ran's eyes as he nodded.
"I will just call the autopsy team to take the body of this FBI agent, though without a doubt it's the death by the bullet. If they're not afraid to kill a FBI agent then we must take them serious."
"What do you mean we're gonna stay here. We need to go to Tokyo right away. My daughter got kidnapped and your son got shot!"
"Please keep it quiet, Ginshiro."
After Heizo had received the call from Heiji that people from the organisation that was involved with Kazuha's weird abilities may come after him, Heiji's mum and Kazuha's parents; he asked Ginshiro and his wife to come over his house. Heizo also ordered some police officers to guard his house.
"Trust me I want to go as much you do, but the FBI agent I talked to said that those criminals aren't laughing matter. It would actually be more dangerous for us to go to Tokyo and leave Shizu and your wife behind. If what Heiji said is true and those criminals will come here, at least, we'll have more chance of arresting them. Besides, it takes at least five hours to drive there. By the time, we'll get there, FBI and the police may already arrest that criminal organisation."
"I see your point but I'm still worried about my daughter."
Heizo put his hand on Ginshiro's shoulder. "She'll be safe."
Everyone gathered in the police station and started to discuss the best plan to rescue Conan, Ai and Kazuha.
"I checked that address and it's some warehouse just outside of Tokyo," Takagi said.
"It would be better if we knew the building's plan," Sato said.
"Maybe we can," Ran said. "Amuro-san, he may know."
"Amuro?" Jodie's eyes narrowed in suspicion. As soon Conan had discovered the true identity of Bourbon, he had let FBI know.
Ran explained that Amuro had worked for the syndicate. However, it had turned out that they had killed Amuro's parents and they had lied to him about it, and that now they wanted to kill Amuro. "He's hiding from them now, and he definitely would like to send the syndicate to the prison."
"My apprentice was part of the criminal organisation? I can't believe it," Kogoro said.
"I'm not sure if we should trust him since he worked for them. What if it's a trick," Megure said with a doubt.
"It doesn't sound like a trick and it seems that Amuro-san can actually help us," a voice from the back said.
Jodie could recognize this voice anywhere, but it couldn't be possible.
"Subaru-san? You're still here? I told you, you free to go and what happened to your voice." Megure asked confused.
"It's my real voice. Before I was using the voice-changer. You see my name's not Subaru Okiya, but Akai Shuichi and I work for FBI as well."
Tears started form in Jodie's and Camel's eyes. "Shuu, is that really you?" Jodie sobbed.
"Yes, it's me." Akai smiled. "I'm sorry for lying to you, but I had to in order to protect Kir's life."
Jodie and Camel put their arms around Akai and cried more.
"Look, later you can throw a welcome party, now we need to arrest that damn organisation and save those kids. Does anyone know how contact Amuro?" Megure asked.
"I know his address," Ran said.
"Good. Takagi, Sato you'll bring him here right away."
"Yes, sir."
While, others were waiting for Takagi and Sato to bring Amuro, Kogoro asked the question that most of them wondered. "I still don't understand why Ai, that brat and Kazuha were taken. What they have in common?"
Megure shot a glance towards James. "I told you I don't know."
Ran thought about saying the true about Conan's and Ai's identity, however it was something that they should do. And she definitely wasn't going to tell them about Kazuha's healing abilities. It was a huge deal and less people knew that better.
After around half-an hour, Takagi and Sato arrived with Amuro.
"So finally the police found out about the syndicate. It was about time." Amuro smiled.
"We don't have time for this. Do you recognize this address." Megure showed Amuro the piece of paper.
"Yes, but I was only there once. It's a science lab." Amuro's eyes went towards James, Jodie, Camel and Akai (he was still in Okiya Subaru's disguise). "I'm guessing FBI."
"You guessed right," Camel said, bitterness in his voice.
"Hey, calm down, I'm here to help. I'm also worried for those kids' and Mo- Kazuha's lives. You can't even imagine how much." Amuro almost whispered with the trembling voice.
"If it's a science lab, then we need to be there as soon as we can." Ran's body trembled.
"Is there something you're not telling us?" Kogoro asked us.
Ran bit her lip.
"I think I should mention that this criminal organisation works on some science project that mostly likely is connected with ageing like increasing the ageing process or something related to it. It's possible they kidnapped those kids to do experiments on them," James explained.
"Why didn't you tell us this earlier!" Megure shouted. "Experiments on kids! Are those people monsters? We have no time to waste. We need to do everything in our power to save them!"
