When we last left our heroes, Sonic and Tails had made themselves known and officially met Link and company. Chapter 21- Fighting Back

Sonic dashed ahead towards the oncoming robotic army. They were easily about as tall as the teenager, spherical in shape, bore a resemblance to their creator, Dr. Eggman, and were red in color. About twenty of them held swords and ten more had swords and shields. About ten more held various laser guns as they all marched towards Kakariko Village with no intentions of backing down. "Egg-Pawns again?" Sonic chuckled to himself, "Seriously Egg-head, where do you get your robots? The recycling plant?" Sonic took a great leap into the air and twisted his body left and struck the closest robot with a powerful axe-kick, and the blow easily made its impression as the receiver of the attack sharply lurched to its right and knocked down three more. Sonic then used the nearby rock wall as a launch pad and soared for another Egg-Pawn and tackling it to the ground. The Egg-Pawn behind the teenager decided to take a chance and attack him. But Sonic saw it coming as he side-stepped as the first robot was sliced in half by the second. "Attacking your own teammate," Sonic jested, "How low can you guys go?" He apparently made it mad as it tried to take another swipe at the speedster, but missed by a longshot as Sonic was already behind it and preparing another axe-kick and successfully made contact with its target. Using the current momentum, Sonic took another leap for the air and came back down with a vertical kick to another Egg-Pawn and used him as a spring board to attack another. After a few more minutes, nothing but scraps of robotic parts lay everywhere as Sonic looked at his handiwork and then up at the battleship. "Hey, Eggman!" He shouted, knowing that there was a camera watching him, "You'll have to better than that to outdo me!" He smirked and dashed back for the village square to see how Link and the others were doing, and lend a hand if necessary.

Link had drawn his sword and joined the fight with the medabots, but made his inexperience with the blade known quite easily. Just as one Egg-Pawn blocked Link's attack, he prepared one of his own as he held his sword up high. And just as it came down, Rokusho intercepted the attack and cut the sword hand off at the elbow. Link then took the opening as he stabbed the Egg-Pawn with the Master Sword and then retreated the blade, resulting in the robot to fall to the ground. "Thanks Rokusho," Link spoke up, "I owe you one." "No thanks necessary." The stag beetle type replied as he jumped up and slammed another Egg-Pawn with his hammer fist. Metabee tried to keep his distance as he gunned as many down as he could. Casey and Brown Bison teamed up and took a few down with strength, as well as a couple good punches. Nin-Ninja nimbly played the role of an assassin, disappearing one second and having his ninja blades thrust into his opponent's back the next. Tails did his absolute best to join the fight, remembering what Sonic did in situations like these and tried to imitate the actions portrayed. Some successfully and others not so much, but he was still beating back the Egg-Pawns nonetheless. Jedediah decided to get in on the fight as he grabbed a hand of rope and gave the enemies that approached him a dose of Texas they're likely to not forget anytime soon. Midna did her best to keep the others out of the way and led them inside a nearby store. "I wish there was more I could do," Zelda thought to herself, "I can't just sit here and do nothing." "You can do something," Zelda's ancestor began, "Hold out your hands." Confused, but willing, Zelda moved out of the way to a point where she could do as instructed. A blinding light then filled the whole building as a sacred bow and arrows that shone like the sun itself appeared in her hands. "I used this bow when I helped defeat Ganondorf the first time. May it, and the arrows of Light, prove useful to you." "But, what if I run out of arrows?" Zelda asked, gazing at her new weapon, "I only see three." "Fear not," The Princess finished, "Believe in your own power and you will always have arrows." The Princess's voice disappeared as Zelda took a deep breath as she started for the door. Midna was about to stop her, until she became dumbstruck at how Zelda got her hands on such a beautifully crafted bow so suddenly.

As Zelda Joined the fight, she had utterly no idea what she was doing. But she found a suitable spot to fight from and tried to line up a clear shot. However, one nearby Egg-Pawn decided to try to take her out and started marching towards her. Already scared out of her wits from being in a battle like this, Zelda froze as she saw the approaching robot. But out of nowhere came a flash of blue and Sonic axe-kicked the Egg-Pawn and smashing the shell where he hit and knocking the robot over. "Thanks Sonic." Zelda smiled. "No problem, friends look out for each other, right?" The speedster smirked as he gave her thumbs up. Zelda was taken aback. He called her a friend, and Sonic barely knew her. But Link said the same thing back before all this got started, when he was protecting her from Dark at school. Zelda knew in her mind that she had to fight, no matter how scared she was. And she would give it her all, no matter the cost. She took one of the Light Arrows and lined up a shot at an out-of-the-way Egg-Pawn, until Link was thrown in the way of the shot. "Link!" Zelda shouted, "Look out!" Link glimpsed over and noticed the armed arrow and dashed out of the way. Just as Zelda's fingers released the arrow, it soared for its target at almost literally the speed of light and impaled the Egg-Pawn. But as the arrow made it to the center of its target, beams of pure light exploded from within the robot's body and literally destroyed it from the inside out. But it wasn't finished there, as the beams of light arced for nearby enemies and destroyed them, and more beams of light came out of them and destroyed more. Within seconds, the army of about a hundred was reduced to about ten. However, there were no remains of the robots that were hit, like the pure light just disintegrated them. "What did I just do?" Zelda asked, second-guessing herself as to if she actually saw what happened. "The arrows you wield are imbued with the powers of Light," Zelda's ancestor explained to her mentally, "They judge their target based on purity. If their target is pure of heart, the arrow will have no effect. But if its target is impure, the Light shall cleanse them." Thanks to Zelda's new power, the teens and medabots were able to beat back the remaining Egg-Pawns and reduce their number to nothing.

Shortly after, the group met back together as a small hovercraft approached them from the battleship. "Well well well," Sonic started, "If it isn't the Egg-head himself; finally decide to come see what happened to your army?" "Gah!" Eggman stammered, "It's that blasted Sonic!" "Long time, no see," Sonic continued, "What've you been up to? No good I bet." "Well it seems you have me down pat my dear Sonic," Eggman retorted, "But you should after foiling my plans all these years." He then glimpsed down as Link and Zelda. "Ah, and who have we here?" The Doctor snickered, "Why, I believe that it's the Hero of Time's descendant and the Princess of Destiny's descendant. Might I say you bear a striking resemblance to your early family members." "How do you know who we are?" Link asked, gripping his sword and shield tightly. "Oh I know all about you my dear friend," Eggman sneered, "Ganondorf and I have become allies you see, and he told me all there is to know about your ancestry. Yours and hers." He pointed to Zelda and chuckled to himself. Link and Zelda shared confused looks, as did everyone else. "Alright Eggman," Sonic continued, "Spill it. What are you and Ganon-whatever planning?" "Like I would tell you," The Doctor snorted, "And you know that I'm always willing to compromise my plans in case of difficulties." He gave Zelda a mischievous look. "My army was supposed to take over Kakariko Village, but I guess I'll just take her as compensation since you foiled that plan." A robotic hand reached down and grabbed Zelda as it retracted and held her off the ground a ways. Zelda screamed in fear, but it didn't bother Eggman. "Why you little," Metabee raged, "Take this!" He aimed his gatling gun at the Doctor, but the latter simply moved Zelda in front of him as a shield. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," He snickered, "Now if you value her life, then be good little boys and girls and stay out of my way. And that goes double for you Sonic." Eggman laughed maniacally as he began to fly off, until Knuckles and Gokudo saw an opportunity to strike from a nearby cliff and double-punched the arm holding Zelda, breaking it off of the hovercraft. Zelda was free, but was now falling to the ground. "Gokudo," Knuckles shouted, "Now!" Gokudo used his stretch arms to push Knuckles while in midair and boost him forward. The red-dressed teen then grabbed Zelda in one hand and smashed his spiked fist into the rock wall in front of them and let their combined weight drop them to the ground.

Eggman escaped as everyone rushed over to see if Zelda was alright. "Zelda," Link called, "You alright?" "Yeah, I'm fine." She answered as she tried to let her heart catch up with her, "But who saved me?" "Nice catch Knuckles," Sonic cut in, "For a minute there it looked like it'd be a close shave." "Can it Speedy." Gokudo interrupted. Sonic shrugged casually as the warrior type helped his medafighter onto his feet and stood by him. Much like his medafighter, Gokudo had little patience for Sonic and his attitude, though to much more of an extent than Knuckles. "You best watch what you say to my medafighter," Formula Racer called as he transported himself into view. Though Sonic couldn't have cared less about Gokudo's threats, Formula Racer made sure to defend him when it sounded like he was in trouble. "Knuckles?" Malon asked, "Why do they call you that?" The red-dressed teen simply cracked his knuckles, showing the metal spikes on his fists in the process. "I see you've already met the Hero's descendant." Knuckles spoke up. "You mean Link," Sonic corrected, "He has a name you know." "Would anyone care to tell me what's going on here?" Sheik asked. "I will agree," Nin-Ninja added, "I am equally confused." "Sonic and Knuckles get into arguments like this all the time," Tails explained, "So don't let it bother you too much." "The question now is why do they fight?" Rokusho then asked as the red and blue rivals started at it. "Well, I don't really know why." Tails scratched his head, "But I guess it's easy to tell they don't get along based on their personalities." "Come on Knux," Gokudo started, "I'm sick and tired of their I-could-care-less attitude, and I know you are too. So let's show them their place!" "Ready when you are Knuckle-bud." Sonic challenged, with Formula Racer making ready for battle. "Now this could get interesting." Maddy mused as she looked up and saw Eggman's battleship fly back to Hyrule City. "That's enough!" Link fussed as he moved to stand in between the two, with Metabee following, "Our enemies are Ganondorf and Dr. Eggman, not each other." "Yeah," Metabee added, "And if you don't stop then I'll get meda-busy on both of you!" Sonic and Formula Racer looked at each other as Knuckles and Gokudo did the same. "Fine with me." Sonic finished. "Yeah, I didn't feel like fighting you anyways." The racer type added. "Phooey," Maddy thought, "I was hoping they'd kill each other, it'd mean two people that are out of my way." "Well," Maddy spoke up, "I'm going for a walk, anyone going to accompany me?" She was hoping Link would volunteer, but Knuckles walked ahead and brought her along, needing a chance to cool off as he transported Gokudo.

"What's his problem?" Casey asked. "He's just short-tempered is all," Sonic replied as he transported Formula Racer, "Give 'em a few minutes and he'll be cooled off." "What's bothering me is that how did he know who Zelda and I were." Link piped up as he put away his sword and shield. "You've got me." Navi weaved side-to-side to imitate a shaking head. "Well I guess it seems that we have some explaining to do." Tails muttered. "Then I guess you should get started." Metabee responded. "It basically started when we got off the plane at the airport." Tails began, "After that, me, Sonic and Knuckles decided to go get something to eat at the food court. When we finished, all three of us felt beckoned to leave the airport that very minute. We were confused, but we did leave. Outside, we all noticed a ghost that called himself the Hero of Time. He told us that Hyrule was in need of heroes in this modern time, and requested that we find his descendant, which was you Link, and help him free Hyrule." "Alright," Zelda mused out loud, "But now the question is how did you know where to find us?" "Link's ancestor told us to find a place called Kokiri Town on the outer edge of some place called the Lost Woods. After we saw Link, we sped past you guys and waited for you here in Kakariko Village after we heard that was where you were going." Sonic continued. "So that explains why I saw you in Kokiri Town." Casey exclaimed. "Yup, you got it." Sonic chuckled, "Nice race by the way Casey. I never expected a type like you to be fast enough to keep up with me or Formula Racer." "What's that supposed to mean?!" The locomotive type retaliated, "Are you saying you were expecting me to be a slowpoke?" "Just relax Casey," Jedediah cut in, "He never said that." He then looked at Sonic, "I apologize for Casey's outbreak, he's a little sensitive on the topic of his model type and how it's talked about." "No problem," Sonic threw up his hands, "I never meant to insult Casey, but I'm sorry if I did say something that did." Casey calmed down as everyone checked in the direction of Hyrule City to see if Eggman decided to come back. But when there was nothing but a clear blue sky, everyone took a sigh of relief and decided to head back towards that square.

Meanwhile, Maddy kept to herself. One reason being was that she didn't want Knuckles temper to flare again; because if it did, it might cause her to be found out. The other reason was because of Eggman. How could Ganondorf send someone else to do the job she was assigned? Did he not trust her? Or was it all just a set-up so he would come out on top and she would be a stepping stone? And then there was Dark. Like he and Link despised each other, Dark and Majora were like night and day even more. And oh did he get on her nerves, especially when he appeared just to see if she even completed her task. And then he started to downgrade her on top of that when he found out that Link was still alive. However, Maddy couldn't contain her anger any longer as she started mumbling. "Stupid Dark," Maddy huffed, "Always pushing me around and telling me what to do." "Who?" Knuckles asked, hearing the girl angrily talk to herself. "Oh nothing," Maddy lied, "Nothing at all." She then had an idea. "Perhaps you could help me Knuckles." She continued as she tried to look like she needed help. "Me?" The red-dressed teenager stammered, "I'm not sure how much help I'd be to you." "Oh nonsense," Maddy interrupted as she hugged his arm, "I just need you to do one little thing for me." Knuckles turned a little red at Maddy hugging his arm, but he pulled it out of her grip as he turned his back towards her. "Sorry Maddy," Knuckles answered, "But I already have things to do. So whatever your problem is, you'll need to solve it yourself." "But Knuckles," Maddy pleaded, "I can't do it on my own. I need your help." After seeing that Knuckles hadn't been moved, she decided to play a little harder and started welling up fake tears. "Fine, be that way." Maddy cried, "I thought I'd be able to come to you for help, but I guess I was wrong." She started crying a little more as Knuckles growled to himself. "Fine," He sighed, "What is it?" Maddy suddenly cut the crying façade and stared him right in the eyes, causing Knuckles to fall into a hypnotic state. "Listen well Knuckles," Maddy began, "You have one task, and that is to help me kill Link. Understand?" Knuckles nodded. "Good, now you are to act like nothing's happened within that last couple minutes. And when the opportunity arises, I will summon you to my aid." Knuckles nodded again as he blinked a couple times and shook his head. "Excellent," Maddy praised herself, "Now with Knuckles under my control, killing the Hero's descendant will be easier than I thought." She and Knuckles then headed back to meet up with the others in the square. And with Maddy now having an accomplice to help her in her plans, it's currently unknown as to whether or not her plan will succeed.

Now we find that Knuckles has met the group, though his stubborn attitude turned things a tad sour. Then there's Maddy/Majora. Just what is she planning? The only way to find out is the read on…
