Chapter 21

Silent POV

It's been three days since everything happened to us. Three days since we rescued Shadow and escaped the academy. Three days since I took the life of a human being who was never able to have a real life of his own. He was nothing more than another hypnotized person by The School.

Leo and I flew back the following day to end what was left of the scientific research building that was a few miles away, recovered a few more files from the building, and did the right thing by burying Venom.

Shadow and I weren't on speaking terms at the moment and it was entirely my fault. She understood what I did to her brother was necessary but it still killed her inside. She knew it had to be done.

Sound and Zack were healing up quite nicely from there wounds. As expected of course. I was very proud of Zack for that fight, even if it was a stupid move, I was proud. The rest of the flock was settling in and beginning to let it sink in that we were safe.

"How are you feeling Shadow?" I asked leaning against the doorway of her hospital room. She sat on the bed leaning against the pillows and shrugged at me.

Her body was covered in bandages. From her shoulders down to her hips was a series of white bandages, some more wrapped around her arms and one thick one around her forehead. She had gotten really banged up from the building exploding as well being straggled by Venom.

"Doc says your bandages can come off today" She smiled a bit.

"I know." He voice came out softly and I smiled as she spoke to me. She moved over on the bed and patted the spot next to her, "Come here." Without hesitation I strolled over and plopped down in the spot next to her.

She looked so different from the Shadow I had known for so long. Her hair was no longer dangling down her back, instead it cut off just barely below her ear. The once brown eyes I had come to know and love were now a sickening blood red. When I looked into them I didn't see her confidence and pride anymore; her eyes made her look so broken and even her faintest smile made it seem like she would cry any second.

Thinner than a twig I could perfectly trace her collar bone, and point out most of her ribs threw her bandages. She was a pale white, paler than I normally am, from not only being held captive without going outside, but probably from the sickening hospital smell around her. It made me want to crawl the walls.

"I forgive you," She said simply. "For what you did to...him. It had to be done and I'm kinda glad he's gone. I just wish I could have done it myself" She leaned against me and I carefully wrapped my arm around her waist.

"I wouldn't have let you do it yourself," I admitted. "He was your brother. It would be like asking Leo to kill Ian. It's just something I couldn't do." She looked down at her lap fiddling with the bandage on her left hand.

"I know. But he was the last ties I had to my birth family." I sighed and moved my hand, rubbing her back softly in small circles. "I just wish I could have grown up with him. He was a total stranger to me when I saw him." Her head hung low and she kept her eyes on her lap.

"Do you miss not having them?" I asked changing the subject. She looked up at me and raised an eyebrow in confusion, "Your Wings. Do you miss having them?" She smiled lightly and let out a faint chuckle.

"Sometimes." I kissed the top of her head, "But other times I feel a bit more normal without them. I can finally wear those shirts that don't have the back on them like Bright always suggests." I rolled my eyes.

"Hey. Don't mean to interrupt" Speaking of Bright. She peaked her head in the doorway, "Nurse Is here to take off your bandages Shadow."

"About time. It's hard to move around with these things on." The nurse and Bright came into the room and shut the door behind them. I helped Shadow sit up so her feet dangled off the side of the bed.

"Sir could you step ou-" "Let him stay" Shadow cut off the nurse. I raised my eyebrows slightly but didn't object. Bright shot me a form of warning glance before helping the nurse.

I reached out and unbound the bandages along her arms, respectively keeping my eyes on what I was doing. I could see the bruising was almost entirely gone from her arms and shoulders and thin scars remained from any cuts. I turned away and dug threw a small bag we had on the floor and fished out one of my shirts for her to throw on.

"God it feels great to not have those bandages on" She exclaimed pulling on the black and white t-shirt. It was obviously to big for her but it fit.

"And you'll be free to leave here in a couple minutes. Just need to fill out some paper work which I will be right back with." The nurse left and I helped Shadow stand up.

"We sign the papers and we board the next flight to America" She exclaimed grinning, "And we go home."

"And we go home" I repeated.
