It'd been a few months now, and the two husbands watched the news every day. News slowly started to spill out into the media over the imposing threat, and walls were hastily built once again, in major cities of countries all over the world.
"What's going to happen now?" Eren questioned, looking at the dark-haired man worriedly, as they received word that the walls were finished in their construction.
"Hopefully nothing. If they were serious, Eren, it's the end of humanity as we know it-don't you dare start humming that damn song." The teen cackled evilly, smirking at his lover. Small, strong hands then rested on his sides and fingers started tickling him, causing the teen to laugh until tears came to his eyes.
"Stop! Stop! Uncle! Uncle!" Eren cried, causing Levi to chuckle as he stood and stretched. It was Saturday once again, and Eren had a few weeks of school left, leading into getting his diploma early. Armin and Mikasa were doing the same, trying to graduate early if the end really came. The reincarnates even started training themselves again, pushing their bodies to their own limits. They also made sure they constantly read about the past war, along with learning as much as they could about the titans-which still was little to nothing. Hanji came over frequently, her tests resuming on Eren as his titan started to awaken. Erwin also made appearances, talking to both of them about past planning and other things useful to defeat the titans.
Production on old weapons and three-dimensional maneuver gear was resumed, and horses were trained. As the length of time grew, time seemed to be falling back to that war, and that the threat of dying any day was once again on society's shoulders. Eren also started to grow nervous, the feeling of being trapped in a birdcage once again flitting his body in nerves.
"Levi," he called one day, "let's go to the mountains. Somewhere open. Please."
The older man understood immediately, nodding as he put on his shoes. The weather was warming considerably, so the couple left with a basket full of food to eat, along with a blanket, and drove out to the mountains. The drive wasn't long, but the further out they headed from the bustling city, the more at ease Eren felt.
The car was parked and the two then headed up, stopping when Eren was finally content with the scenery. They were sitting in a meadow, the clearing spreading for miles as they set up their blanket and picnic basket. The teen threw his head back and fell onto the blanket, his head hitting his husband's lap. With a grunt from Levi, the teen smiled sheepishly at him and apologized, blushing slightly.
"Do you feel better?" the older man asked, carding his hair through the teen's messy hair.
"Yeah, much better, actually. I just...don't like being trapped inside the walls like a bird again. It's not a fun feeling, at all. I can't even see the ocean anymore."
Green and blue eyes locked on each other, Levi leaned in and kissed Eren softly. He shifted the taller male, pulling him into his lap more as Eren rested his head on Levi's chest.
"Eren."
Said teen turned his head to look at his husband, "Yes?"
"I think Erwin, Hanji, and I are going to join the military. They're bringing back the old branches."
Eren gasped and whirled around, looking at the man he loved, "Levi, I-"
But he never got to finish that sentence, as a bright flash of light appeared in the sky at the town's wall, and the sound of a faint roar was then heard. Screams filled the air, and the couple stilled, Eren turning to look towards the source of light. As Annie, Bertholdt, and Reiner had said, the titans had returned.
It was truly the end of the world.
A/N: I'm so sorry I haven't updated in a long time! I'm just...going through a lot right now, and it's really hard to write about love and that sort of stuff right now, too. And I kinda lost my pattern for writing on this story, so I apologize on how short this is! The end of the story's starting, and i'm kinda looking forward to writing it! See you soon(hopefully)!
