A/N: Sorry there was no chapter last week, I was on vacation so I didn't have time to write.
It couldn't be. He was dead.
"Janvier?" Callen spoke surprised. "It can't be, you're dead."
"I'm Didier. My brother Marcel is dead yes," the man replied with a heavy French accent. Brother? Callen didn't know anything about Janvier having a brother. "My brother is dead because of you!"
"Step away from the crib or I'll shoot!"
"You won't, cus you don't want to hit your son," Didier spoke as he picked Nick up.
"Put him down! Now! Or I'll shoot!"
"You won't shoot. You might hit your son. You won't take that chance."
"I swear to you, if you hurt him I will kill you! Put him back in his crib! Now! Put him down!"
"As you wish."
Didier moved to put Nick back in his crib, who was now crying in his arms. Just before he was about to put Nick down he threw him up in the air. Callen quickly moved to catch Nick. Callen dove to grab him just before Nick hit the floor. Callen rolled over so he wouldn't crush Nick when he heard a shot. He quickly moved to protect Nick. After a few seconds he looked up when he didn't feel any bullet hit him. He saw Sara standing there with her gun and Didier down on the floor. Nick was now crying at the top of his lungs.
"It's okay buddy, daddy's got you," Callen tried to calm him down as he rocked Nick in his arms.
Sara quickly checked in Didier was dead, which he was, before going over to Callen and Nick.
"Is he okay?" Sara asked concerned.
"Yeah, he's fine."
Sara grabbed Nick from Callen and tried to calm him down.
"It's okay baby, it's okay. Mommy's here. You're safe Nick, it's okay. Shhhhh, it's okay buddy."
Callen watched his wife and his son. He was beyond relieved that Nick was okay. How the hell did Janvier's brother find them? Callen was glad that he was dead now too. Callen pulled his phone out and called Marisa.
Marisa woke up when she heard her phone rang. She looked at the display and saw it was Callen.
"Dad, is everything okay? It's 3am."
"Janvier's brother just tried to grab Nick."
"Oh my god, is he okay?" Marisa spoke as she sat up straight in the bed.
"He's fine. Sara shot him before he could hurt Nick."
"Okay that's good. I'm coming over."
Marisa hung up the phone and jumped out of the bed.
"Everything okay?" Zac asked concerned, he had woken up too.
"Someone just tried to grab Nick."
"Oh my god. Is he okay?"
"He's fine. Dad said he's not hurt."
"Okay that's good."
"I'm going over there to deal with this."
"Alright that's fine."
Marisa gave Zac a kiss. "I'll be back later."
"Be careful."
"Always."
By the time Marisa got to her parents' house Nick was already calmed down.
"What happened?" Marisa asked as she walked in.
"I woke up when I heard something. When I got to Nick's room I saw him standing over Nick's crib. He grabbed Nick so I couldn't get a shot off. He then threw Nick up in the air. I caught him and the next thing I knew he was laying on the floor. Sara shot him," Callen explained.
"I heard some noise so I went to check it out. When I got there I saw Janvier ready to shoot your father so I quickly shot and killed him," Sara continued.
"How the hell did he find you?"
"I have no idea," Callen answered. "Maybe Janvier gave some information to his brother."
"Yeah but why wait so long? I mean, it's been a while since I killed Janvier."
"Yeah I don't know."
"I'll have Eric and Nell look into it in the morning."
"Great thanks."
"I'll tell Hetty what happened. I'm sure she won't mind you two staying at home tomorrow after what happened."
"Thanks."
Nick was now calm in Sara's arms and he started to fall asleep again. Marisa gave Nick a soft kiss on his head. Marisa took care of Didier's body before she went back to her place. The coroner took Didier away.
"Come on honey, let's go back to bed," Callen suggested.
"Okay, but I'm taking Nick with us."
"Of course."
Sara went back to the bedroom as Callen made sure everything was locked again. Didier had come into the house through Nick's bedroom. Callen made a note to install some extra security in their house in the morning. Callen went to the bedroom and crawled back in bed. Nick lay in between them. He had fallen asleep again.
"Why would he hurt a baby?" Sara whispered.
"I don't know. He's probably as sick as his brother."
"Yeah probably. I'm just glad Nick's alright."
"Yeah me too. I promise you I will never let anything happen to Nick."
"Promise?"
"I promise honey. I'll do everything to protect him."
"Okay good."
"Come on, let's try to get some sleep again."
Neither Callen nor Sara slept much that night. They kept an eye on Nick.
…
"Where are G and Sara?" Sam asked when everyone was in the bullpen that morning.
"Janvier's brother tried to grab Nick last night," Marisa announced.
"Oh my god. Is he alright?" Kensi asked.
"He's fine. He wasn't hurt."
"Wait, back up. Janvier has a brother?" Deeks asked.
"Yeah apparently. He broke into my parents' place last night. Don't worry he's dead. I asked Nell and Eric to look into it. To see how he found out where my parents live, to see if there are any more threats out there."
Sam stepped outside and called his partner.
"Hey Sam," Callen answered the phone.
"Hey G, I just heard what happened. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, it's fine now. Nick was settled in again last night and he slept through the night. Sara's feeding him his breakfast right now. He's okay."
"Okay that's good. Let me know if there's anything I can do."
"I will. Has Marisa checked in with Eric and Nell already?"
"Yeah they are already searching for any clues."
"Okay good."
"Take care partner."
"I will Sam, thanks for calling."
"Anytime."
Sam hung up and went back to the bullpen. A little later Eric and Nell came down the stairs.
"We found out how Didier Janvier managed to get a hold of Callen's address," Eric announced as they walked into the bullpen. "We managed to get some information off his cell phone and he called this number very frequently." Eric put something up on the screen. "This number belongs to…." Eric put a picture up on the screen.
"That's Clara," Marisa spoke astonished.
"Clara? As in Callen's mom Clara?" Kensi asked.
"Yeah," Marisa spoke with a bit of anger in her voice. "Where is she now?"
"Her phone has her at an address in Venice," Nell answered.
"Send me that address," Marisa spoke before she walked out.
"What are you going to do?" Sam spoke.
"Pay her a visit."
Sam looked after her as she walked out. Marisa really was a lot like her dad sometimes. He didn't go after her. He figured it would be better if Marisa talked to Clara alone.
Marisa walked out and got in her car. She put the address in her GPS and went to the house. She parked the car and walked up into the apartment building. She went up to the right floor and knocked on the door. A little later Clara opened the door.
"How could you do this?" Marisa yelled as she pushed Clara inside.
"Do what? Wait, you work with Gabi right?"
"I don't just work with Gabi, he's my father. So how could you send someone after his son?"
"His son? What are you talking about?"
"Someone broke into my parents' house and tried to take my little brother. My mom shot the guy and we checked his phone. There was a number in there that he called very frequently, it was yours."
"Mine? I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Don't play dumb with me! Your name is on the phone number he frequently called and then he broke into my parents' place and tried to take my little brother! Don't tell me that's a coincidence!"
"Who's this man that broke into Gabi's place?"
"Didier Janvier."
"I've never heard of that man before in my life."
"Don't lie to me! That man called your cell phone!"
Marisa grabbed her phone and called the number. Somewhere in the house the phone rang. Marisa found the phone underneath the couch cushion.
"That's not my phone. I've never seen that phone before in my life."
Marisa put her gloves on and picked the phone up. It showed the call history that Eric had found.
"If this phone is not yours how did it get here?"
"I don't know. But I swear to you I've never seen that phone before."
"He called this phone a few times and you've never heard it ring?"
"I must have been out or something. Do you know the date and time of the calls?"
Marisa told Clara the dates and times of the calls.
"I was out on all of them."
"Can someone verify that?"
"I was getting my morning coffee at those times. The store has surveillance cameras. I'll give you the name of the coffee shop."
Clara gave Marisa the names of the coffee shop and Marisa called Eric to check it.
"You better be telling the truth."
"I swear to you I am. I won't do anything to harm Gabi or his family."
Marisa stayed at Clara's place until she would hear back from Eric or Nell.
"You really are a lot like your father, I can see that," Clara said after a while. "You have the same character as him. It's no surprise you became an agent as well. I never knew Gabi had a daughter."
"He didn't know about me until a few years ago and I didn't know who he was. I didn't know who my mom and dad were. I was adopted."
"How can Gabi not know about you?"
"My mom and dad worked together on a case. When that case ended my dad was called away for another case. My mom didn't found out she was pregnant until my dad had left. She never got the chance to tell him."
"How did he find out about you?"
"I was working with my dad already but we didn't know about each other. I was kidnapped, my dad went to my place to get something when he noticed the things in the box my mother had left for me. I had only found out a little before that."
"How old were you then?"
"Twenty one."
"And your mother?"
"I was told she was dead. But she had faked her death to get away from some bad people. That's why she couldn't keep me. She stayed in Spain for years before returning to LA a couple years ago. I know what it's like not knowing where I really come from. At least I have the answers now. My dad has spent 40 years not knowing who he really was or where he came from."
"I'm really sorry about that."
"You were so close for so many years. Why didn't you just tell him?"
"I didn't know if I was safe from the Comescus and your father seemed a troubled boy, I didn't want to add to it."
"He deserved to know his mother!"
"I know, I've been beating myself over this. There were so many times I wanted to talk him but I just couldn't. But if he'll let me, I want to a part of his life again."
Marisa wanted to reply but her phone rang.
"Yeah Eric," Marisa answered the phone.
"Clara's story checks out. The cameras at the coffee shop placed her there at the time of the calls and she didn't have the phone with her."
"Thanks Eric," Marisa replied and hung up the phone.
"So my story checks out?"
"Yes it does. But do you have any idea why he would set you up?"
"I have no idea. I've never heard of this guy. Why did he come after Gabi?"
"His brother was my dad's nemesis. He died a few years ago, I shot him. I guess he wants revenge. Maybe he has been keeping an eye on my dad or something and found out about you."
"How?"
"I don't know, but we're gonna find out."
Just as Marisa sat that the door was kicked in and two men with guys came storming in.
"Run Clara! Out the backdoor!"
Clara quickly got out and ran outside. Marisa punched one guy and kicked the other in the nuts with her feet. While the guys were recovering Marisa quickly ran outside to catch up to Clara. Clara was waiting on the balcony for Marisa. Marisa closed the door and put a chair in front of it.
"Now what? I'm up on the third floor."
Marisa quickly looked around for their options. "We go down."
"How? There's no fire escape ladder here."
"There's a balcony right below us. Come on."
Marisa went over the railing and jumped on the balcony below. "Come on Clara."
Clara climbed over the railing and Marisa helped her down onto the balcony. Luckily the door to the apartment was open.
"What the hell?" The woman spoke as Clara and Marisa walked into the apartment.
"It's okay, I'm a cop. Just have to use your apartment to get out."
Marisa quickly walked to the front door and they went down the hall and down the stairs.
"Eric, I need backup. Someone is shooting at me and Clara," Marisa spoke as she called Eric. "We're on our way to the car now."
"Copy that, sending Kensi, Deeks and Sam your way."
"Thanks Eric." Marisa hung up the phone. "Get in the car Clara."
Marisa and Clara quickly got into the car and Marisa sped away just as the guys came out of the building. They shot at the car but missed. They quickly got into the car and followed Marisa.
"Buckle up Clara! This might get rough."
Marisa sped through the streets of LA. Checking her rearview mirror she saw that they were after her.
…
"Eric, where is she now?" Sam spoke as he drove as fast as he could.
"Take the next left and then the first right. Her car is there. It hasn't moved for a while."
"Can you check if they are okay?"
"Negative, they are at a camera blind spot."
Sam quickly sped the way Eric told him. He had a bad feeling about this. When he got there he found Marisa's car but there was no sign of Marisa or Clara.
