"Now what?" Lily's face wrinkled into confusion as she held the many pieces of a hat in her hands.
"Sow this part to this piece and then tie that to this." Clara explained as she demonstrated her directions on her own hat.
The two girls sat by a river, the sun shinning and birds singing, as they simply enjoyed one another's company. Clara had decided she would teach her friend how to make a hat. It had come to the red heads attention that Lily hadn't been enjoying her princess lessons very much. So, Clara offered to teach her this to see if it would help relax her when she got stressed. However, so far it had only made it worst.
Finally, Lily exhaled loudly and fell back against the soft green grass. "This isn't working."
"Sorry," Clara placed her hat down. "Maybe we can make some flower garlands?"
"Nah, let's explore!" Lily excitedly suggested.
"I don't know. Remember the last time you said that?" They both shivered at the memory.
"My Aunt is absolutely awful. She doesn't even deserve to be called my aunt." Lily stuck out her tongue.
"Well, what about-"
"Let's play with the boys." Lily blurted.
Clara's mouth dropped open. "Are you kidding? I'd rather play with that horrid dodo bird than them." She crossed her arms and looked away.
"Deep down I know you don't think they are that bad." Lily playfully shoved her friend with a grin. "Besides, I think Charlie would enjoy your company."
"What makes you think that? He is so mean! Especially with Will." She argued.
"Fine, I'll distract Will and you talk to Charlie. Deal?" Lily leaned forward with an eager smile.
"No." A stern expression was plastered over her face.
"Yes"
"No"
"Yes"
"No"
"Yes"
"No!" Clara gritted her teeth. "They are bullies."
"Hmmm," Lily mischievously smirked. "Alright then." She shrugged with a smile. "Looks like they are coming to us anyways."
Red hair swing around as Clara turned her head, wide eyed and angry, at the two boys named Charlie and Will approaching them.
"Maybe if we're quiet-"
"Hi guys!" Lily blurred and waved frantically at the two boys. "She's over here trying to shrink herself in the grass!"
"Thanks," Clara sarcastically said.
"What are friends for?" Lily teased and stood up for the boys.
"Hi, uh, Princess." Will bowed. He passed and elbowed Charlie who was staring at Clara.
"Right, hi," Charlie waved at Clara sheepishly.
"Please, don't bow. I'm just a kid like all of you." Lily said and smiled at the two boys.
"I'm really sorry about yesterday, prin-uh..." Will nervously tried to speak.
"Lily, just Lily. And no worries. Perhaps we could all forget about yesterday and start over?" suggested the princess with a caring smile, much like her mother's.
"Easy for you to say." scoffed Clara with her arms crossed over her chest.
"I'm William and this is my best friend and cousin Charlie." William introduced themselves to the two girls.
"Well, I'm Lily. Just plain old Lily." Lily shook the boys' hands playfully.
"We know Clara. She's technically our cousin too." Charlie explained.
"So," Will nervously began, "want to go exploring?"
"Awe," Groaned Charlie and Clara. Lily giggled at her friend.
"You don't like exploring that much?" Clara asked Charlie.
He shook his head rapidly. "We always gets us into some sort of pickle."
"Same with Lily!"
"Do not!" Both William and Lily defended themselves.
"You mess up once and then they never let it go." Lily sighed.
"Same," William motioned to Charlie.
"You have many adventures?" questioned Lily, intrigued by the fact William was more like her than she thought.
"I try, when Charlie isn't chickening out." laughed Will.
"Sa-"
"Lily! Don't agree with him." Clara snapped playfully. The four laughed together.
"Want to play hide and seek?" suggested Charlie.
"As long as Lily doesn't decide to make it extreme hide and seek and discover a dragon cave, I'm all for it." Clara laughed.
"Alright then! Let's get started!" Will clapped his hands. The three ran off while Charlie counted.
