'So Amiga' Jane said with a smile. 'I always knew you'd end up as my sister-in-law and today is the day, mwahaahaahaaa!'
'Oh, knock it off Jane, that got old years ago.' Daria replied.
'Why soo serious!?' Jane did her Joker impression... again.
'It's just... I wish my folks were here, you know? Dad should be giving the bride away, he always wanted to and now...'
'Yeah... I know... well my folks won't be here either, surprise, surprise!' Jane replied sadly.
'Did you find out what happened to Vince after?' Daria enquired.
'Oh yes, he went swimming in what turned out to be a crocodile in a tributary of the River Niger.'
'Ouch! Sorry.'
'Don't be, I'm not. He's just a footnote in the story of my life now and Mom is...' Jane put her head down. 'At least I'll always know where she is now.' She added in a whisper.
Daria nodded. 'Shady Acres, plot 4170.'
'Nah.' Jane managed a smile. 'That's just the bits they found, the rest of her is laminated to the inside of the old bomb shelter in the back yard... stupid kiln...' Jane raised her voice and started to sing '...and she never will play the wild rover no more...'
The door opened a crack and Trent's voice came through. 'Ehmmm... ten minutes ladies, Quinn's looking for Daria.'
'Thanks Trent, I'll go now.' Daria stood and tried to smooth the creases out of her long skirt.
'Lookin' good Amiga, the dress really works for ya.'
'A QuinnM original! Four thousand bucks worth – should be good, at least it fits me. You're looking pretty snazzy yourself, what is that tux, Armani?'
'Yep, I have a rep to uphold too. Trent's matches this except for the tie, best man and all that. He looks damn good in a tux Daria.' She added with a smirk. Jane still sported her high-school haircut which was now known as The Jane Lane and was quite popular among the arsty crowd in New York. She straightened her blood red bow tie as she examined her reflection. Then she waggled her eyebrows at her old friend and started to sing again. 'Isn't it rich? Aren't we a pair? Me here at last on the ground, you...'
Daria groaned. 'Please! No more show tunes! Look I'm gonna head round to the back and let Quinn and Amy give me the once over one more time then it's fix bayonets and over the top, seeya in the trenches?'
'Sure... don't forget to thank Amy, she is the coolest Aunt, you're damn lucky. I wanna be her when I grow up.'
Daria shook her head. 'Never happen Lane, Peter Pan's got nothing on you!'
'Thank you!' Jane grinned.
Daria made her way to the 'Bridal' antechamber at the back of the hotel ballroom.
'Well finally!' Quinn exclaimed. 'You'd better not have gotten anything on that dress before the ceremony!.
'It's fine Quinn, chill. Amy in case I forgot thanks for standing in for Dad today, it means a lot... to both of us.'
Amy smiled back. 'Glad to do it, anything for my favorite nieces.'
A familiar march started up outside. The three women smiled at each other then got in line for the procession. In short order it came down to the exchange of vows.
'Do you Jane Amanda Sunbeam Galadriel Lane take this woman Quinn Louisa Evelyn Ruth Morgendorffer to be your lawful wedded wife?'
'I do'
