-Chapter 20-
Peter awoke in the middle of Tiger Lily's guest tipi, feeling completely hung over from the last night's festivities. Ivy was going to murder him when he got back to the house. Good thing they slept in different rooms and she would probably not notice his absence until that afternoon, when she normally called upon him to do odd jobs or just to chat. There were noises outside the tipi and the sounds of shrill female voices throwing profanities at each other.
"Where is he!" One high pitched voice screamed, clearly enraged and wanting to see someone, probably him by what the other voice replied. "I must see him!"
"He is resting, Blue Moon. Because you drugged his beverage last night in an attempt to sneak him away." Princess Tiger Lily sounded tired, but her voice did not lack her authoritive, almost male tone she inherited from her father. By the sounds of scuffling, Blue Moon had surely tried to make her way past the princess. "Know your place Blue Moon."
The next words of the Native woman got Peter's thoughts occupied. "What does she have that I do not, Flying Eagle? Is she truly all you speak off?" Well... He had exaggerated on a few minor points, like her being able to cook anything and that she was the best reader back home and that she was meek and quiet no matter the situation. To be completely and truly honest, Ivy burnt 45% of everything she made, she still had great trouble reading anything above the difficulty of Dr Seuss stories (but she understood the plot outline to a certain degree) and the fact that she was anything but meek and quiet during certain situations was complete and utter bull... well, I was going to use a word but my mother would have surely grounded me for it... But anyway. "I would make a much better woman than her and you know it to be true, Flying Eagle!"
His head pounded and he felt nauseous, not because of the screaming or the drugged beverage, but because he had a feeling in the pit of the stomach that something happened while he was partying like a high school football player after winning the biggest game of the season. Something BIG and really important had happened last night, but Peter figured it would be something like Ivy figuring out that novel she's had her nose in for the past week and a half or finding out where the iron pocket watch went or that she had discovered how to get that pastry soufflé thing right without burning it. He waited for everything to quiet down before taking a nap and then inconspicuously flying out of the tipi so fast that the speed of light felt slow. In his head, Peter recited what he would say to Ivy when he saw her, Ivy, don't be mad with me okay? There was a celebration after the hunt and I was going to come get you but I couldn't leave because that would have insulted the Indians. Yeah, I think that's believable enough.
He walked right into the front parlor, "Ivy!" Nothing, not even the sounds of a heartbeat. Then a voice entered his mind, I told you I would get my prize Peter Dear. Panic had overridden his system by then and Peter knew exactly where to go to get Ivy back.
