"Still nothing?! I have half the mind to go out there and find her myself!" Elsa sighed as she slumped against the window seat of the library windows. By then, it had been nearly twenty-four hours since the royal guards had left, and still nothing.
"I'm sure someone will arrive soon my Queen. I have to say, the blizzard does look like it is getting stronger." Kai mentions from the fireplace where he had been standing since he had arrived about ten minutes before.
"Why didn't I see it coming? I should've known Anna would pull off a stunt like this and just disappear!" She stared out the window and inspected her kingdom. All she could think about was Anna. If she knew her sister, Anna would not give up until she found Kristoff, even if that meant putting herself at risk.
"If they don't come back, then what do we do?" she mumbled in a small voice. She heard Kai's heavy sigh from behind her and a quick shuffle of feet. When she turned around, Kai was staring at her from the open doorway.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Now I'll go see if there is any news." He left and closed the door, leaving Elsa by herself. Again, she looked out the window. Snow was falling, leaving the whole kingdom covered in a blanket of white dust. Her people were shuffling around in the plaza, buying goods and chit-chatting with their neighbors. There was only one ship anchored at the port, belonging to Prince John. No doubt his captain was too afraid to leave the dock when it was snowing. At this rate, he would be stuck here for a few more days at the least.
Something pink caught her eye. The local florist was selling his last batch of flowers of the season, it said so on his cart. The beautiful pink, purple, and yellow flowers just warmed everyone's hearts against the cold, chilly air. Elsa couldn't help but think about Olaf, and how the little snowman loved anything related to summer. Just then, she thought she caught a glimpse of the little guy running through the plaza and waving his arms. She must've been losing it, surely Olaf wouldn't have returned unless it was a dire emergency.
"Now listen to me Olaf. Anna is out there, but she's not by herself. What I want you to do-Olaf are you listening to me!"
"Yes ma'am!" the little snowman dropped the flower that he had been admiring and focused all of his attention on the Queen.
"Olaf, I need you to follow the guards and search for Anna on your own once you hit the mountain. And if you do find her, stay with her, but stay hidden! Only follow her and make sure she stays safe until she finds Kristoff. If anything should happen, anything at all, return to me immediately with the news! Can I trust you?" Elsa stared into Olaf's eyes in a full on blinking contest. Elsa won.
"Yes! You can trust me!" Olaf smiled and hopped from foot to foot.
"Good! Now get it! Good luck and stay hidden!" She ushered the snowman off and watched him as he ran up the valley, arms flailing.
Elsa was wrong, she really had seen Olaf. Leaning closer into the window, she saw her little friend weaving through the crowd, making his way closer to the palace.
"Olaf!" she stood up and dashed for the door.
"Make way! Coming through!" Olaf shouted as he ran as fast as he could to the castle. He made a mental note that he had to get into better shape. As he climbed up the castle steps, the front door was pushed opened, and he crashed into it.
"Oh no! Olaf! I'm sorry!" Elsa poked her head out the door and gasped as she watched him tumble to the bottom of the steps again.
"Boy am I out of shape!" he sighed and stared at the cloudy sky. His nose stuck out the back of his head and his legs were halfway across the courtyard. Elsa ran to grab them and stuck them back on his body before readjusting his head.
"Olaf, has something happened?!" She asked when he was completely reassembled, but still in a daze.
"Uuh..." he scratched the back of his in bewilderment.
"Olaf! Anna! has something happened to my sister?!" she was getting desperate.
"Uh...Oh! Yeah!" Olaf smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, you remember? Or yeah, somethings happened?" She was on the verge of shaking him, but fought against the urge.
"These big men have her! And Kristoff! They were hiding out in a cave I think, and I was on top of the cave turning into a snowball when a bunch of men dressed in black with these huge sticks pulled up in sleighs and started yelling and shouting. Then, Anna ran out of the cave, Kristoff was following her, yeah, yeah, and then they cornered them with their big sticks...something about it isn't her we want, it's the Queen..." Olaf ranted on and on until he stopped to scratch his chin, which he didn't really have. Elsa, meanwhile, just stared at him, unable to respond to his story.
"Oh! And Hans was there...yeah!" he finished with a sigh. All Elsa could do was gawk at him.
"Hans? Are you sure it wasn't the guards we sent out?" Elsa knew it was impossible for Hans to have returned to Arendelle, but than again, nothing was impossible.
"No, these guys were much bigger and stronger. Unless your guards got stronger, louder, and meaner overnight..." Olaf explained. Elsa fell on her knees, if Hans was back, and he had reinforcements, that meant he was back for revenge. Which meant nothing would stop him from hurting Anna.
"When was this Olaf?! How long ago?" she turned her attention back to him.
"Well, I came back immediately after it happened, just as you said, so, not long ago. See, I rolled down the mountain, considering I was round enough to be a snowball." he pointed up the valley behind the palace.
"Anna, she's in trouble, I have to go!" Elsa stood up and ran for the gates. For a split second, she turned around.
"Thank you Olaf! Tell Kai I'm going to find my sis-!" she was cut off when she hit a wall, hard. She fell to the ground with a thud.
"Oww..." She sat and squinted up at the said wall she had crashed into. But when she did, she didn't see a wall, she saw a person. John.
"Hey! I'm sorry! I didn't see you coming! Are you hurt?" he knelt down to meet her at eye level. Soon Olaf was at her side.
"That looked like it hurt Elsa! Are you okay?" Olaf patted her shoulder. John did a double take on the talking snowman and stared in bewilderment.
"A talking, walking snowman? Now that's something you don't see everyday..." John commented and held out his hand to the Queen, not once taking his eyes off the living snowman.
"Thank you. I need to go!" Elsa quickly glanced at him before moving to run past him, but she was held back. Turning, she saw that their hands were still connected.
"What do mean you need to go?" John asked. He still hadn't let go of Elsa's hand. She tried to talk quickly.
"My sister, she's in trouble! I have to get out there!" She yanks at her hand, but he still wouldn't let go.
"But you can't leave! What about Arendelle! You can't just abandon your kingdom!" John argued over the winds that were quickly picking up speed.
"What about my sister! I can't abandon her either!" She struggled to get away from him.
"How do you know something has happened?!" he asked. Elsa cracked a sob and shifted her gaze up to the North Mountain only thinking about how little time she had.
"Olaf told me!" She replied without taking her eyes off the mountain.
"Olaf? Who's Olaf!" He replied with another question that only made Elsa want to kick the Prince.
"The snowman!" She replied with a pickup of the wind speed. The wind was swirling around them causing the snow to fly in every direction.
"He has a name too!?" John glances to his side to look at Olaf.
"Of course he has a name!" She glared back at him. He still refused to lighten his grip on her hand. She quickly decided to mention the next important piece of information.
"It's Hans! My sister is in trouble because of Hans!" Now that shocked him, because he had released his grip and stared at her in confusion.
"I need to go!" She turned and ran as fast as she could. Seconds later, she heard John calling her name.
"Elsa wait! Elsa!" she heard him catching up to her, he must have been chasing her, because less than three seconds later, he was standing right in front of her.
"Move!" Elsa yelled and attempted to move around him only to be grabbed by the arm.
"Let me go up!" he yelled. She stopped struggling and stared into his face.
"What?" she asked.
"Let me go up and find your sister. Maybe I can convince my brother to stop!" he replied.
"That's ridiculous! No! I'm going to get my sister and bring her home!" she yelled back.
"You can't leave Elsa! You are the Queen! This is YOUR kingdom! You CAN NOT just walk out on them! You've done it once already, you CANNOT do it again!" he grabbed both of her arms and craned his neck to get her attention. He was right, Elsa knew she had to put Arendelle before her own needs, but Anna was he family too.
"But, she's my sister..." tears rolled down Elsa's cheeks. The exhaustion from the past forty-eight hours hitting her full-force.
"Hans is my brother. Please, just let me go up there and find him, maybe I could reason with him, I've always been good at that." John softened his tone to meet Elsa's quiet sobs. She wanted to find her sister by herself, but then again, maybe she didn't have a choice but to let John do it.
"But..." she attempted to come up with an excuse to leave her kingdom and her people to find her sister.
"You can't leave Elsa. You're needed here." he whispered softly.
"You'll find Anna?" she asked.
"Yes."
"And her fiance." she added.
"Of course."
"Keep them safe?" she continued and glanced up to meet his gaze. He nodded in response.
"Bring them home safely? With your brother apprehended?" he closed his eyes and nodded again. With another glance up into the mountains, she finally lowered her head and sighed.
"Okay, you can go up the mountain and find my sister."
