Everyone on this side of the viewing platforms turns and stares at the snowy haired girl. Mayuri stands up and, with her head held high, heads towards the railing separating the platform from the space below. With one swift movement she jumps over the railing and lands gracefully on the floor, walking the remaining few steps forward into her space, Kabuto already in place.
"Alright, you may begin," the Proctor says.
Mayuri tightens the leather straps on her gauntlet and narrows her eyes at him when he speaks. "How's your side? All healed?"
"Perfectly in fact." Mayuri finishes adjusting her gauntlet and immediately whips a smoke bomb followed by three shuriken, surging forward after the smoke bomb goes off. She darts into the smoke and her fist connects with something, but when the smoke clears, she sees Kabuto has just simply caught her hand.
He smiles at her quite sinisterly as he tightens his grip on her fist. "Oh come on now Miss Hatake. I know you can do better than that." Before Mayuri has time to react, Kabuto swings her around and throws her across the room. Mayuri bounces off the floor once before landing on her feet again. She snaps her head up and grits her teeth, glaring at him. She twirls out a kunai and heads back at him, he having pulled one out himself.
His blade meets hers easily, almost without him moving, and this close to him Mayuri can see a crazed look in his eyes. "You know, I think you're holding back something. Maybe it's this armor on your arm hmm?"
Mayuri growls and jabs up her knee, hitting him square in the gut before roundhouse kicking him back and away from her. He skids to a stop a few feet away as she lowers her foot back to the ground. "Perhaps you should stop worrying about things that don't concern you."
Within seconds Kabuto kicks her legs out from underneath her and then sends her into the floor. All breath leaves her body and Kabuto bends over her. "You're boring me."
Mayuri glances up as she catches her breath and spies Kankuro and Temari snickering between them. How dare they…! Mayuri rolls backwards and jumps back one step, throwing her last few shuriken and duplicating them with jutsu as she reaches for a kunai – her last one. Damn, looks like she's gonna have to pull out the gauntlet blade after this one. While Kabuto deflects her shuriken she surges forward swinging with her kunai. He blocks it easily, which is exactly what she wants. She twists her other arm, sending a surge of chakra down her arm to extend the blade, sinking it into his side.
Kabuto winces, and Mayuri jumps back letting her arm hang at her side after tossing away the kunai. She hears whispers above her, people marveling at her gauntlet before she swings her arm, getting rid of some of the blood. That's when she notices it. In her haste she hadn't taken account of her remaining chakra after carrying Ari the whole way here. With that last desperate spurt of chakra, she's down to just enough to execute the lightning blade a single time.
Well… This is it. Mayuri slides her hand down the length of her gauntlet and quickly spikes the lightning blade to life. "Hhhhhaaaaaaaahhh!" She runs forward, jabbing her arm under and up, aiming for his stomach as she squeezes her eyes closed. She connects and hears something shatter. Fearing she may have stabbed right through him her yellow eyes fly open, only to see that he moved out of the way just in time. She sank most of her blade into the wall, causing a large crack to spread upwards, almost all the way to the viewing platform. Fearing what may come next she yanks her arm out of the wall and drops into a defensive stance.
Good thinking on her part because she only just manages to block a kick from Kabuto, which still sends her back a good four feet. And that's only the beginning of the onslaught. Kabuto continues to pound at her with taijutsu and eventually she can't hold her arms up any longer. Kabuto's heel connects with her chest and sends her flying backwards – her back slamming into the wall halting her motion. She slides down the wall and coughs, finding blood on her palms, but she stands up again anyway, legs barely holding her up. Kabuto just walks towards her, not even concerned.
"You know, I thought you might be a little more fun than this." Kabuto adjusts his glasses and smirks at her. "But honestly you're just weak. And to think your father was so advanced at your age. Tsk, tsk how disappointing."
Mayuri waits until the right moment, until Kabuto is right in front of her, before forcing chakra through her arm and retracting her blade, punching so hard in the stomach he flies a few feet straight up in the air. With one last push, she extends her blade and, by some miracle, lights it up one more time with electricity. She moves to the side, allowing Kabuto to land on his back on the floor before touching his throat with the point of her blade. "Don't move."
"Alright that's enough." The proctor steps in and Mayuri turns off the lightning blade, standing up. The proctor looks from the two of them before speaking again. "The winner here is Mayuri Hatake. Can we get a medic in here?"
Mayuri hears cheers, and a few people call her name as she starts walking towards the stairs, but they seem really far away. Like she's at the end of a tunnel. Her vision begins to go black around the edges, soon fading to nothing as her legs give out beneath her. She mentally prepares herself for the fall back down the two stairs she managed to climb but instead landed on something soft. After that, everything goes numb and she dives into darkness.
