Chapter Twenty-One
((TRIGGER WARNING: ATTEMPTED RAPE))
"I can't just leave her there. I know she's with Isabel's human, Hugo, but something isn't right. No calls, no texts, nothing! If Eric thinks he can keep me away, he's got another thing coming," I said to myself as I got dressed.
It was going to be sunset soon and I refused to just stay in the hotel. I didn't see much of a point in even being in Dallas if I wasn't being useful. I felt as though Eric was just keeping me there to show me off in front of the other vampires, well, I wasn't having it. I knew what I was going to do. The Fellowship of the Sun had to have known who Sookie was beforehand, especially since the whole thing happened at the airport. I was going to go myself and find out what was happening. At that moment, I wasn't even thinking about what could happen to me. I was just worried about Sookie.
The only plus side to being "Eric's" was that I had access to his cars that were parked during the day. Sucker. I sped out of the parking lot and to the church, not even caring how Eric felt.
I pulled up to the back of the church because I felt that it was safer than being seen in the front. I moved as swiftly as as quietly as I could as I followed the loud thoughts I heard coming from inside the church. I followed them to a door as screams echoed the hall.
"Sookie!"
I threw the door open to the basement and I saw Sookie and Hugo being attacked by a large, bald man. I had to think fast, so I picked up a chair, that was stacked along the wall, and hit him over the head in an attempt to get to Sookie.
"So we have another fucking fangbanger, huh?"
My eyes widened as I realized that the wound had only stunned him for a bit because he was so large. I cursed myself under my breath for not being strong enough.
"Why don't I show you what you've been missing? I was gonna take your little blonde friend here, but you look like an even bigger slut!" He shouted before slapping me across the face. Fighting him off was virtually useless seeing as he was much bigger than me. I screamed as he began to rip off my jeans and tears began to run down my face.
"Get off of me!" I screamed, trying to kick and claw at him.
"It's useless, no one is going to hear you!"
***Eric's POV***
I was in the hotel in deep thought. I could hear Bill and Lorena in the other room causing quite a commotion. I had called her to separate Bill and Sookie, but I was having second thoughts. Human emotions that I didn't want to feel. I thought back to the conversation that I had with Isabel. She questioned me about wanting Sookie and I denied it, which wasn't a complete lie. Yet when she questioned me about Em, I had no words for her. I didn't want to make myself look vulnerable or do anything that I didn't fully understand. Of course, I wanted Sookie, but not for the same reason that I wanted Em. I wanted to possess all of Em, take her and really make her mine. I didn't know how to allow myself to do that. The best way I knew how was to keep her away from the church, which upset her but I couldn't afford anything to happen to her.
I immediately snapped out of my thoughts when I felt Em's fear and pain. I didn't question anything more as I sped off to the Fellowship.
***Emmie's POV***
The man was still pulling at my clothes while I flailed and Sookie screamed.
"Yes, scream for me baby! Just like you scream for those bloodsuckers!"
I was about to let out another scream as more tears poured down my face, but I felt his hands being removed from me. I looked up to see the same young vampire that I had saw in Eric's past.
"Godric?" Sookie said.
I fumbled to zip up the zipper on my jeans and clumsily wiped away tears. Sookie crouched down to comfort me as we watched Godric snap the neck of my attacker.
"You should not have come," Godric said to us.
We heard someone speeding down the stairs, the kind of speed that could only be from a vampire. Sookie called out, thinking that it was Bill.
"No. I'm here, my child. Down here."
Eric stormed into the cell that we were all in. His eyes drifted from Godric to me as he dropped down to his knees in front of him.
"You were a fool for sending humans. Especially your own,"Godric said, motioning to me.
"I had no choice. These savages, they seek to destroy you."
"I'm aware of what they planned."
Sookie reveals that Hugo betrayed us all and turned Godric into the Fellowship. I looked over to Hugo's unconscious body in disbelief.
"How long has it been since you fed?" Eric asked Godric.
If I wasn't so shaken up, I would have smiled. It was refreshing to see Eric show love for someone that wasn't himself.
"I require very little blood anymore," Godric replied.
Just then an alarm sounded through the church.
"They know that we're here," I said.
"Save the humans. I can take care of myself."
Eric reluctantly listened as he roughly grabbed my hand and pulled me up. He pulled me to the side before making it all the way up the stairs.
"Spill no blood on your way out," I heard Godric say.
"I'll deal with you later," he said to me, anger dripping from his voice.
I frowned. Eric was very upset, but he would just have to deal with it. I did what I thought I needed to do even if I almost got hurt.
"You'll just have to deal with it for now," I snapped.
I watched him roll his eyes and turn to watch the front door behind the wall. He was just about to spring into action when Sookie tells him to stop. Eric leaned in close to her and whispered something in her ear. I could feel my blood boiling from their close contact. I shouldn't have been jealous, but I was. Everyone always made such a fuss over Sookie even someone who I….No, I couldn't think that way, not about him. Eric walked over to the men standing at the front door. I knew that he was glamouring them into giving him their weapons. I saw one sneak up behind with a stake in an attempt to destroy him.
"Stake!" Sookie screamed.
Eric pushed him back and fought off the others with great speed. Sookie and I ran over to him in a hurry.
"You don't have to kill him, Eric."
I could see the crack of the front door that more followers were coming with chains and stakes.
"We have go, Eric," I said as Sookie led us to the sanctuary.
She started to lead us to the exit, but Steve Newlin came out from a corner of the room.
"The only exit for you is straight to hell!" He said to us as the other followers came in.
"Godric escaped, so you have no reason to do this now!" I yelled at him.
He let out a condescending laugh.
"I don't care about Godric. Any vampire will do and we seem to have one right here."
I looked at Eric in horror.
"Eric.."
"I'll be fine," he said to me as he goes up to the altar with Steve.
Eric tried to reassure me, but I was terrified. I turned my head away as they restrained him with silver chains. Some of the followers came and held me and Sookie back.
"I want to offer myself for Godric's freedom. And the girls'."
My heart pounded in my chest as I heard his words. I wanted to scream out, but no words would leave my mouth.
"Oh, but they are just as culpable as you. Maybe we should tie you all together so you can meet the sun," Newlin said.
Just then, everyone turned their heads to look at the church doors where a frantic Bill was running in.
"Sookie!"
He must have felt her fear. But if she was here for two days, where the hell was he? Steve pulled out a gun on Sookie.
"Come any closer and I kill both of them. Bring me some silver chains!"
"Leave him out of this! If you're going to kill anyone, kill me!" I yelled.
"Em...no," I heard Eric gasp out.
Before Newlin could answer, a voice echoed through the church.
"Newlin!"
I looked over to see Jason just as he shot Steve in the hand with what seemed to be a paintball gun.
"Let her go, fuckwad!" He screamed, shooting a green paintball in the center of Steve's forehead.
Everyone shouted and moved back which cause us to be released by the followers. I took the opportunity to run up and take the chains off of Eric. Eric sat up and said nothing to me as he recovered from his wounds. He then sped off to grab Steve by the collar.
"Murder us before God, we are willing to die!" Steve said.
Sounds of the doors being forcefully opened echoed through the church. The main doors opened to reveal Stan and the vampires of Dallas. I didn't even have time to react well before Stan ordered them all to attack.
"We have to leave!" Bill said, pulling us out.
But my mind was still on Eric, how could I leave him in the midst of this, even if I couldn't do much?
"Enough!" We heard from above.
Godric was standing at the top of the church. He looks at the scene displayed before him with disdain. I could tell that his heart was kind even though he had seen so much in his 2,000 years. He even negotiated for the lives of all that didn't deserve it.
"I will not negotiate with subhumans! Jesus will protect me!"
Godric looked amused.
"I am actually older than your Jesus. I wish I could've met him, but I miss it," he said before coming down and grabbing Steve by the collar.
"Who is willing to die for this man's madness?"
The church was silent.
"I thought so. It's over." Godric said as everyone began to exit the church.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Eric asks Sookie on his way out, giving me the cold shoulder.
I looked down at my feet as I could feel anger rising within me. Why did I even care so much? I know that I wasn't there for two days, but I'm sure I suffered a little bit more damage than Sookie. Hell, it was all for Sookie because of Sookie!
I was taken out of my trance as Jason pulled me into a tight hug.
"Jason! What were you doing with these people? Are you out of your mind?" Sookie scolded.
"I was. That son of a bitch sucked out my brains and planted his own babies in there."
"You know nothing. On the final day of reckoning, we'll see who goes to heaven and who goes to hell," Newlin said to Jason.
"I reckon I've been to heaven. It was inside your wife!"Jason shouted before punching him in the face.
Sookie, Bill, and I scrambled to take him out of the church as he screamed profanities.
We all went back to Godric's nest after the ordeal. Everyone had gathered around to give him well wishes. I watched this happen in the corner behind a wall. I could feel a presence behind me and I knew that it could only be one person.
"I know you're behind me, Eric."
I turned around to see the Swedish vampire staring at me, but yet he said nothing and went on his way. I let out a frustrated sigh. The cold shoulder never felt good, even from a vampire.
"Here is the one who betrayed us!" Isabel said, storming in and throwing Hugo at Godric's feet.
"He is your human, correct? Do you love him?"
I knew that Isabel had been crying, her cheeks were stained with blood and she struggled to find the words to say.
"I- I thought I did," she said in a low tone.
"You are free to go," Godric said.
Everyone gasped, including me.
"But do not come back. I have a feeling that you are no longer safe here. Eric make sure that he is escorted out."
Eric did as he was told as Isabel thanked him. Godric was unlike any vampire I had ever met. I didn't think it was possible for one to be kinder than Bill, but there he was. It made me want to know more about him, more about how he achieved his level of patience and tolerance.
"Em, Godric wants to see you," I heard Eric say behind me.
I nodded as I followed him to another room which I assumed was an office. I couldn't help the nerves that were coursing through my body. This was it, I was going to find out my true identity.
"Finally, I meet the daughter of my lifetime love."
