And so the end has come. Behold the final chapter of Hunting Wes. Please excuse the excessive onomatopoeia. There is a bit of a point, but it was a bit half-assed (I imagine in Japanese it would be better, considering they seem to specialize in onomatopoeia, English doesn't have a ton) and doesn't make sense at this point. Part of it will by the end of the chapter, but the full story behind it wouldn't be revealed until part-way through the sequel if I were to write it. Oh, and just a warning: most of this is just dialogue and constantly changes POV, but it should be obvious which group each scene follows. Oh, and lots of random humor. Mainly Wallie. Sorry if you wanted to read a ton of action for the ending.

"I-I see the end! There's light; an opening!"

"Come on, we're almost there."

"What's up there?"

"Who knows?"

"Who cares, let's just get out of this creepy cave."

"It's big brother's machine! We can save big brother with it!"

"I sure hope you're right. I don't want to deal with another puzzle."

"No more puzzles, no more riddles, just the final act of the play."

"Almost there."

"No matter what happens, I want you all to know I love you guys, you're the best friends I could ever have."

"Good luck. Let's all hope for the best!"

"Yeah!"

Please let us succeed. Don't let our struggles be in vain. Guide us, Lord Arceus.

"Sir, do we know how much farther?"

"Shut it, you damn imbecile! It'll be as far as it will be!"

"How do you know this is where it is?"

"Because he gave the answer when he knew not what it was."

"I see, sir, but how does he know?"

"He is the boy destiny delivered to me on that fateful day in the scorching deserts of Orre. Arceus itself has destined this!"

"But how d-"

"Do you plan on defying me? Betraying me? You are no child as mine was. Your betrayal will be treason; you die by my hands if you, if any of you go to leave now. Your choices be to die or remain loyal and rule the world with me!"

"Ye-yes Sir! I'd never think of it, Sir!"

"Good. I don't want blood on my hands while I'm handling him. Make sure everyone knows and check on the witch. Make sure she isn't dead yet."

"Yes, sir."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! What's with this wacky cave?"

"Probably used as a Trial of Passage."

"Or some kids pimped it out with some traps. Good thing I brought glowsticks! Anyone?"

"I'll stick to a flashlight."

"No, thanks."

"Aw, you guys are no- Ah! Almost got electrocuted, there."

"It seems to have been a trap to stall someone. There are probably others, so best watch our step."

"Perhaps the youngsters were trying to stall those Snagem people until we got here."

"It would seem that way. Which means, we need to proceed with extreme caution."

"Un…"

"You hear that? Was that a ghost?"

"Aaah! S-something grabbed my foot. Shine a light!"

"My Arceus! There's a hand coming out of the ground!"

"He-help me! Get me out of here!"

"No, help me!"

"Me first!"

"Please!"

"Help me out here! Come on, man!"

"Hey!"

"Z-z-z-z-z-z-z… ZOMBIES! Aaaaaahhhhhh!"

"Run for your lives!"

"Le' go ya damn zombie!"

"Hi-yah!

"I always knew they were real!"

"It's the Apocalypse! Attack of the zombies!"

"AAaaahhh!"

"Oh, to be young again. Ohohohohoh!"

"I concur. I yearn to live again those days I could run like that."

"These 'zombies'… are just some unlucky Snagems fallen in some trap holes."

"Poor bastards. Tisk tisk."

Though zombie may not be the cause, the Apocalypse is on its way. Better take cover.

"Wow, it's so- so- so… magnificent! Grand! Sublime?"

"What's with this interior? It looks like a palace ballroom. Look, even a grand staircase. And the architecture. It seems to be telling a story of some sort. Wes's past, perhaps?"

"No, not a story. Every story. It is… The story of Wes, but…"

"But Wes isn't in it. I see destruction and chaos… and the world being reset… explosions and peace and… What is that? It looks so desolate and empty. They look like ruins, but they're everywhere."

"I don't know, but the center of everything… Where the main character should be, Wes is… he's blotted out in some way or another. Is that to hide what he really is?"

"It looks like it. Hey! That giant container over there. Do you think that's his machine? There's a control panel, too, so it must be!"

"So, does anyone know what we're even supposed to do?"

"…"

"Um…"

"We're screwed."

"It's getting closer. Let's get to work!"

"Doing what?"

"We'll need to set a trap. Brendan and Wes, if he's really a ghost or whatever, probably have a plan. We need to create Plan B and keep hidden. Keep our Pokemon out and ready just in case and we wait for their instruction. Just set up anything you can that will activate when and only when we decide they should. Like a trip wire we have to lift."

"Alright. We should also be wary of any he might have already put in here."

"Yeah."

"Ok."

"Alright! Let's get to work ad save them!"

"Let's go!"

"What was that?"

"Hey, Boss, are there any monsters in here?"

"You scared or something, ya little shit?"

"Less." (Shit-less was the point, in case you didn't catch it)

"Wahahahahah! Then go find some fag who actually cares."

"Ugh."

"Damn pussy. I need to find some good followers who can actually do something without having an excuse. Why couldn't Wes have just stayed; then we wouldn't be having this problem. The only one who was worth something on this team had to be the one in a rebellious phase, didn't he? Ah, just my luck, ain't it?"

"H-hey, uh, Boss?"

"What is it?"

"D-do we even know what we're in here for? Like, what's at the end of the cave?"

"Idiot… A machine of power. It is the key to world domination, to make its controller master of all."

"And you know how to operate it?"

"Only the boy know how it works. He is the answer to all our questions. All our desires. Everything!"

"But sir! The boy is dead. How can it be operated by a corpse? Or by a child?"

"Because this boy, this child, is the one who created this machine. The greatest weapon in existence!"

"Sir, I reiterate; how is a corpse going to help us operate a machine?"

"Shut it! You'll just have to wait and see won't you?"

"But sir-!"

"I said shut it! No more questions, and that's it."

"Y-yes, sir. I understand, sir."

"Good man."

"There wasn't much to work with, but we can use our water and ice Pokemon to create slip zones or our fire types as living flamethrowers. There's no natural ground, so that rules out more pitfalls, not like they would be much help when there's this much lighting. There's nothing more than necessary already here, so there's no throwing ammunition. It's too neat and clean in here. Is there anymore wire or rope?"

"Yeah, there's enough wire for the entryway, but nothing to tie it against. The tape is all gone; we used too much back in the cave."

"We'll have to hold it ourselves. I hope they aren't so heavy as to pull us with them."

"We need to think!"

"What would Wes do?"

"He would take them head on and kick their asses…! Oh, yeah. We can't exactly do that, can we?"

"No, but according to Brendan, he is still trying to help us, from a more… spiritual form. Not sure what he plans to do, but we have to trust that he and Brendan can pull through."

"Yeah, but…-"

"Shh… I hear footsteps. They'll be here soon! Hurry up. Find your places!"

"Here, take this end over there. We'll hold it here."

"Shit. I feel like I'm gonna have a heart attack."

"Calm down, we'll be fine."

"Yeah. Yeah, we will"

"Arceus, we're all going to die, aren't we?"

"No, we'll just…"

"What was that?"

"Must've been a rattata."

"A rattata?! But I-"

"Shut it, ya shithead!"

"Y-Yessir!"

"You. And you, too. Check the perimeter. See if there's anything in here. Another exit, or traps."

"Right away!"

"You three, watch the cavern, see if anyone else is coming. The rest of you, spread out. See if there's anything of value."

"Yes, sir!"

"And if anyone finds the source of those damn annoying sounds, let me know immediately!"

"No, it's over there!"

"It's some kinda giant Pokemon monster thing."

"I can't make it out in the darkness!"

"I can't believe it's actually leaving… Ah! The lights too! They're slowly coming back."

"Oh, Arceus… The room. It's destroyed… The machine!"

The room was in ruins. Rubble cast everywhere. The floor was smashed in and the ceiling was crumbling. Everyone left in the room was exposed. Gonzap stood there, still holding onto the corpse in the center. May was holding Megg protectively against a wall. Barry had thrown his body over Dawn, bits of dust and rubble on his back and a small gash trickling blood from beneath his golden locks. Rui was lying down, staring blankly at the ceiling where she was dropped by the escaping grunt. There were no grunts left. None remained behind.

"The machine! It's still intact," May exclaimed. Gonzap started, looking over to where he heard the voice. He narrowed his eyes and growled.

"Ya little bitch! This is your doing, isn't it?!" He stalked near her.

"No! No, we didn't! We didn't call-" She was suddenly terrified by that angry face.

"We?" Glancing around, he spotted the others. "You! You, too!" He stormed towards them, thinking to pummel them until Wes's body slipped from his grip a bit. He smirked. "No matter. I can still do what I came to do. Now all I have to do is ope- Ah!"

Suddenly, Gonzap was flung against the wall by an invisible force. May was pressed against the wall and Barry and Dawn struggled to not go flying, relieved from some of the force by being on the ground already. Just as suddenly as it came, it went and they exchanged looks. What they saw in the middle astounded them all. Brendan, who they hadn't seen enter was walking up to the platform where Wes was, standing next to the machine.

"W-what? Wes! You're alive?!" Barry shouted, ecstatic.

"Brendan!" May called out. Brendan looked to Wes, who nodded, then over to May and smiled. He ran to her, meeting her half-way in an embrace.

"Everyone," Wes's voice resounded. "Thank you for everything, but it's time I finish this. Please leave this place quickly."

"But-"

"No, guys. We need to go. This place won't last," Brendan cut off. "Come on. There's nothing more for us here."

"What about Gonzap?" But he was nowhere to be seen. "He's gone."

"Come on, guys, we need to get out of here!" Brendan was pushing May toward the exit and trying to usher everyone else the same way.

"What about you, Wes?" Dawn asked. "Come on, why are- oh, you. No! Come with us! Wes!"

"I have to finish this. I need to be alone. Don't worry. You did so much for me, and this world so much more than you can imagine. Now go and continue with your lives. You have so much more to do. I can see now. Your journeys are not yet over. Become strong, and learn the truth. Now go! Before it's too late!"

"No, we won't leave you! Please! Come with us! Let me go! We can't leave him, Brendan!" May tried pushing her way passed him, tears falling down her face. Barry and Dawn were also crying, holding each other back, forcing themselves to walk back through the cave towards the entrance of the cave, Megg following after, slightly confused.

"May, please. We need to go. Wes is… A… He-he's already…" he looked at her desperately. Meeting his eyes, she gasped, giving in.

"Wes! I knew you weren't dead! I just knew it! I told them! I told them, but they wouldn't listen!" Rui's voice screamed above the sound of the crumbling room.

"Rui. It's time to leave," Wes told her sadly. He had a melancholy look as he watched her leave.

"Well come on, Slowbro! What's taking you?" she grinned.

"I have to stay. You'll have to leave without me."

"Alright, then. I'll see you later, my prince. I'll be waiting, so don't take too long this time!" She told him before running after the others.

-My note says here to play "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. I find it's not entirely out of place for Wes's final monologue, plus it's a really good song, so try it out-

"Oh, Rui. I'm so sorry, but this is the end for me. Please don't waste your time waiting for me, my dear friend. Live your life to the fullest. Find someone to make you happy." Turning, he raised his arms up to the dome ceiling. "Farewell, all of my dearest cr…. No, my friends… And my family. I… I will miss you all."

A bright light emanated from the center of the room, engulfing everything around him. "I-I don't…" A tear ran down his cheek as he realized something. He realized he loved all the people he had met.

Rui, the happy-go-lucky girl who believed in him.

Brendan, the protégé who helped him in his time of need.

Barry, the idiot who stood up to him despite his fears.

May, the girl who always continued fighting no matter what.

Dawn, the girl who cried for him when no one else understood.

Megg, the adorable little sister he never had.

Nett, Secc, and the Kid's Grid, so helpful on his journey.

Shirles and Johnson, the police force who try to keep peace where no one else bothers.

Dunken, the tough but kind brute.

Willie, the always eager fool who just wants to enjoy a good fight.

The locomotive bartender, who helped him so many times.

Gonzap, despite everything he had done, who had raised him as his own child.

Ho-oh, who helped catch Cipher at Realgam Tower.

Entei, Suicune, and Raikou who helped him so much.

Every partner he had Snagged and stayed after being released.

And most of all, Umbreon and Espeon. They had been with him since the beginning. His best friends, always with him no matter what. Always fighting by his side. Comforting and counseling. Never questioning him no matter what he chose to do. Always supporting him. The best of friends in every meaning of the word. They were his friends. His family. His rivals. His siblings. His parents. They were a part of him. A vital limb essential to life. His greatest treasures.

He wished he hadn't sent them away. He wanted them with him in his final moments. But he didn't want them to see him like this. They were the only ones who could ever see him like this, but that's why he could never let them.

Another tear rolled down his face. Just before he was fully engulfed in the light, he whispered, "I don't want to go…"

And then there were none. He was lost to the void…

So, that's the last chapter. And I noticed I might need to explain a few things. I'll try with what I remember. If there's anything else you didn't understand, let me know and I'll add something after the Epilogue, or no. I'll write it in my profile or something. The epilogue will be up before you finish reading this.

Anyway, I don't think I mentioned it, but back at the Snagem HQ, before they entered, Wes sent all of his Pokemon out, so he had none with him. And the reason he was able to 'come back to life' is because his body was close to the machine, so he was able to inhabit his body for a short period of time with his remaining power. It wouldn't last long. And it'll be briefly mentioned in the Epilogue, but not explained, but Wes used an ability to teleport everyone else, all the people who came to help, Snagem, and everyone else in the cave area, outside to safety. That should be all for now. I hope someone enjoyed this story, and almost sad to see it finish. I'm looking forward to any reviews. Really, anything would do, even if you dis the hell out of it, at least I can say, "Oh, they stuck to it until the end. I appreciate the dedication."

And if you want the sequel, let me know. You have to specifically say you want it in a review. Thanks again and look forward to the Epilogue! Just press the button for the next chapter and it'll be there.
