Chapter Twenty-One
Reid goes over his files from a case the team is working on and he looks up a little to see if Jackie or Michael have woken up. Michael has been asleep for almost two weeks now and they are beginning to wonder if he will ever wake up. Reid goes back to his files, but he is unable to focus and he gets up to walk the hallway. He is stopped when he sees Jackie's mother and younger brother walking down the hallway.
"Hello, Spencer," Jackie's mother says with a soft smile. "Are you doing alright?"
"Yes ma'am," Reid says with a smile and a small nod. "How are you, Josie?"
"I am worried and sorry that my husband has been causing you trouble," Jackie's mother, Josie, says softly. "I brought Matthew to see his big sister and hopefully he can talk about what happened between you three and he."
"Ma, I am going to go into the room," Matt says.
"She is asleep," Reid says quickly.
"It is alright," Matt says with a smile. Matt kisses his mother's cheek and walks into the room. Josie holds out her hand for Reid to follow her, hooks her hand into his elbow, and pushes him a little to walk.
"Now, I am here to talk to you about what you plan to do next in regards to my husband and his constant fury at you and Jackie being together. Spencer, I like you and I have liked you since you entered my Jackie's life. I know that you regret leaving her and you want to with her because you love her," Josie says with a wide smile.
"I do love her very much and I do not hope to leave her ever again," Reid says.
"Good because she is going to need you soon," Josie says.
"I know she needs me," Reid says.
"No, I mean more so in the coming days," Josie says. Reid looks down at the tiny Asian woman at his side, but her eyes are focused on the hallway before her. "I am leaving my husband because of the hurt he caused for Jackie and I want you to send him to jail for what he did."
"But, Mrs Greene," Reid says, but stops when Josie looks up at him with the same angry look Jackie gives him every now and then.
"You call me Josie," Josie says sternly. Reid nods his head quickly and turns to look at the end of the hallway. "Matt is telling his sister what I just tell you and I am gong to ask you to do something for me."
"Yes?" Reid asks timidly.
"I want to see you marry my daughter before I leave," Josie says. Reid stops dead in his tracks and turns to Josie, but see she is not joking. "I am not kidding because Jackie happy with you and I want you to be in her life forever."
"Josie, we just started a relationship again and I am not sure we are ready for that," Reid says in shock. Josie reaches up to pull him down by his ear to glare into his eyes.
"You do not love my Jackie enough to marry her? Why not?" Josie growls.
"No, I love her very much, I am just not sure she is ready for that," Reid says quickly in fear.
"You do as I ask and I will what I can about my husband," Josie says after she releases Reid's ear. Josie pulls out a ring box and holds it up to Reid. He opens the box to see that it holds a ring with a small square cut ring sitting to the side of three opal stones that were placed in a leaf form with small diamonds forming a steam. It looked as though it was once two rings that were made into one.
"Is this the ring Jackie mentioned?" Reid asks softly.
"It is and I want you to propose with this as an engagement ring as well as the wedding ring. This is her grandmother's ring, bless her soul, and she asked that Jackie be given this ring only by a man that truly loves her. I strongly believe that you are that man," Josie says calmly. "This is her grandmother's, mine, and Jackie's wish since she was a little girl."
"I am not sure if you are making fun or being serious," Reid whispers. Josie stops to face Reid with a smile on her face.
"Spencer, ask her and love her from this day forward with all of your heart. I want you to take of my baby girl and my darling grandson," Josie says with a small bow. The two of them walk back to the room to see Jackie and Matt talking happily.
"Ma, what did you and Spencer talk about?" Jackie asks.
"We were just walking to let you and your brother talk for a bit," Josie says happily. She walks over to kiss Jackie's forehead and pull her into a hug. "I am sorry that your father is being a butthead."
"Ma, you never call him that," Jackie says.
"He is and I have told him that already," Josie says. "Speaking of, your father has asked that I come and see him. Come along, Matt, and we will not tell him we were here."
"Alright, ma," Matt chuckles. "Jackie, you call me if you need me. It was nice seeing you, Spencer."
"Same to you," Reid says. Jackie walks over to put her arm around Reid as they watch Josie and Matt leave.
"What did she tell you?" Jackie asks quietly. Reid fiddles with the ring box in his hand as he thinks about telling her the truth.
"Nothing really," Reid lies. "I am going to go back to reading over the files before the team calls."
"Okay, I am going to go get something for us to eat," Jackie says. She kisses Reid's cheek softly before heading down to the cafeteria. Reid looks at the box with worried eyes and he wonders what her answer would be or even if she would say yes to him period. Is this a good idea?
