whirlwind26- Thanks so much for the review, I love reading fanfics where Draco becomes friends with Harry and the others, without really loosing his snarky personalty. For if Draco will remember Damian, that is still to be determined ;)
natsuki23- Thanks for the review. Yes the shadow thing is Hogwarts, well to be precise the form which Hogwarts takes within the Dreamscape. And yes again, the ruins and forest are part of Hogwarts itself, it indicates how Draco and Hogwarts's bond is growing stronger. Part of Hogwarts's essence is leaking within the dreamscape changing it. Awwww just had to add some drarry fluff ;) Really happy you enjoyed it.
Now onward to the next chapter!
Chapter 20
"Stop it Salazar!" A rough voice called and Draco could feel the heavy boots as they stomped upon the stone floor. Draco was lost, in the dreamlike memory, just like the one he had about the Bloody Barron. Although it felt a bit different, he could see everything in a 360◦, feel the very magic that seeped into the creases of the walls. He watched as a rugged looking man stalked up to a hooded figure.
"I shall not, you all might believe in educating those muggle filth but I will not aid you in teaching those murderous mongrels more methods they can use to slaughter our kind." The cloaked man removed his hood and if Draco had, had access to aired filled lungs he would have gasped. Being a proud Slytherin, he recognized the figure instantaneously and was awed as he looked upon the elegant features of Salazar Slytherin.
"They are children Salazar, innocent children. Do not blame them for the sins of the adults of their kind. We created Hogwarts to educate all who wished to learn how to control their magic." The rugged man added, holding onto Salazar's shoulders. "I created this school with you to protect our kind, so that wizard children of this age would not have to face the cruelty of the other world like we have. Allowing the offspring of those muggle monsters to walk the same halls as our children, how much more do you all wish to endanger the younglings? Even a child can kill, Godric, there is no such thing as innocence in both our world nor theirs."
"Salazar please, we have all suffered. It is time to let go of your hate." Godric stated, his voice soft and Draco was stunned to see the honest concern that gleamed in the original Gryffindor's eyes. "It is the loathing within me that has kept me alive Godric, do you truly wish for me to die." Salazar smiled sadly, closing his eyes in dejection. "They tortured and killed everyone I cared for, pillaged the village of my childhood, and murdered all whom I loved. The smell of burning flesh never leaves me, the screams of agony still rings in my ears and the flames, blood and corpses appear before me with each bat of my eyelids. I can never forget, and I will never forgive. I thought you would understand, yet you all betrayed me."
"Salazar we didn't betray you, cease these ludicrous thoughts." Godric was shaking him, desperate to make the man understand. "Do not fret, I shall leave you to gallivant with the filth, teach them our ways, raise them to become stronger and watch them destroy all we use to be." Salazar pushed Godric away from him and turned to drag his nails across the wall. Draco could feel the short nails scratching him. "You will all be pleased with the absence of my presence, by this time tomorrow I shall vanish from your lives but I will promise you this. I will find a way to protect our kind in Hogwarts, even if it means to cleanse it from those who are tainted with the evil blood of muggles."
The scene shifted and Draco found himself spinning, corridors flashed past and hidden passageways flipped in front of him like the pages of a book. Once he came to a stop he found himself in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom on the second floor. Salazar had opened up an entrance in the center of the tiled room, which lead down to a dark, slimy stone tunnel. There were many skeletons scattered on the floor which seemed to belong to small animals, the small bones littering the stone surface, crunching beneath Salazar's feet as he journeyed on. A solid wall lied at the end of the tunnel, and upon it was a carving of two entwined serpents with emeralds for eyes. Salazar whispered something in Parseltongue and suddenly the wall opened into a long, dim corridor, lined with monumental statues of snakes, including two towering stone pillars with more carved serpents that brace the ceiling. A large statue of Salazar Slytherin himself, looking ancient rested at the center. Draco didn't know how but he knew exactly where he was. The Chamber of Secrets.
Salazar was standing in front of the colossal stone statue of himself, hissing to it and speaking in the strange snake language. Draco watched in horror as a Basilisk slithered out from the faces mouth, its dark forked tongue flicking out to taste the air. As it moved its long body Draco could feel the rough scales scraping on the floor as it slithered towards Salazar. It tilted its large head towards the small man, regarding him with gleaming yellow but instead of striking him, it bowed its head, for this man was its master. Draco could not understand what the man was whispering to it and after what seemed like hours, Salazar finally ceased his countless hissing and walked towards the gaping hole of the statues mouth, resting a hand on its tongue. He dragged a finger over it and Draco recognized the runes the man was engraving with his blood. Loyalty, Purpose, Protection and Death.
Draco's skin crawled as he felt the statue shift, stone sliding against stone. A small entrance lied concealed behind it and Draco watched as Salazar opened the old door entering the hidden room within. But before Draco could see the interior of the mysterious chamber, pain ripped through his entire being. It felt as if thousands of icy blades was ripping and tearing at him leaving him in pure agony. His vision blurred as hallways, chambers, archways and rooms mixed and twisted making him nauseous. If he had access to his stomach he would have long since vomited. But just as suddenly as it happened it stopped, as his vision cleared he was looking out into the dark starry sky yet even the cool breeze and scent of earth and grass could not calm him for he could feel something moving in the shadows. Draco wished he would wake up soon, he couldn't move, couldn't think as the darkness engulfed him. The shadows screeched as they were ripped open and Draco was struck with horror as a dark mass started clawing its way out. "My Pray…"

Hermione was sitting on one of the armchairs in Damian and Draco's common room. She held the potion Snape had handed to her gently, examining the contents. The bushy haired witch was no fool and even though the potion in her hands was indeed an immune booster, the silver flecks that danced within the clear liquid indicated that the Potions Master had added something. The fact that Draco had to drink it at an exact time strengthened her theory that it was not a normal booster potion.
Hermione sighed turning her gaze back to the book on her lap; she had done quite a lot of research on bondings and ancient pure blood traditions. Though she had found little to nothing about being able to bond with a magical structure or much about the antique pure blood ways she had come across a small booklet. It was old, moth eaten and hardly readable but being Hermione Granger, she spent weeks deciphering and restoring the contexts.
It had been a diary of sorts. More of a biography of the unknown writer and what had been written had shocked her. The writer had apparently been bonded with their ancestral home at the age of thirty eight. The reason the writer gave for taking such a long time to perform the ritual was because they had to train to control and manage the magic within their magical core. They had to strengthen their minds and thus had to master the art of Occlumency, to shield their minds as well as Legilimency to be able to attack their opponents. Because…
Magical structures have vast powers and even developed some form of personalities but they lack control or judgement. Much like selfish toddlers. Bonding with one of these structures, links you to them and vice versa and thus connects your magic to theirs. The building will thus absorb your magic to satisfy the bond but will not know when to stop nor would it care. It would drain you of all your magic, killing you in the process. That is why it is important to have a firm control on your magic.
It is also important to have a strong mind for such a bond. As the bond between you strengthen, your mind and thoughts will be shared and you will be able to hear the voice of the building itself. The bond might provide you with an unimaginable power, but the danger lies in getting lost for a magical building does not possess a conscious or mind such as animals or humans. And if you are not careful it will start taking over. Once it has reached the point where you cannot return to your own mind, you will be lost for eternity within the memories of the building. The last entry was what frightened Hermione the most.
"I am starting to get lost, beginning to loose myself…
I am thirty eight years old, but I have celebrated my three hundred and eightieth birthday today. That is all I remember of myself.
When will it be time for me to leave this place...?
So tired…"
Hermione turned to look at the pair across from her; Draco was snoring silently in Harry's lap whilst the raven haired boy was snoozing on the armrest, his hand resting on the blonde's hip in an intimate fashion. It was a sweet yet odd sight, to think they would all be together after years of animosity. Somehow everything that had happened before felt like a far off dream, but strangest of all was the fact that none of them had really changed. Draco was still as sharp tongued as always, a pure blood through and through but his words held neither venom nor dislike. Harry was still stubborn and would argue or fight with the blond if he thought he went too far same with Ron. Nothing had changed; they all had the exact same personalities as before so why did they suddenly get along. This was something that Hermione could not figure out which frustrated her. A light laugh caught her attention and shifting her perplexed gaze from the sleeping pair she saw that Damian was standing right next to her.
"There's about ten minutes left. Draco's going to freak out when he finally awakens." Damian stated. Hermione once again looked at the potion in her hands. "How do you know he'll be awake by then?" She asked curiously. "It's always been like that, Draco's a real deep sleeper, you can't wake him up once his out so Professor Snape trained him to be able to wake up in certain time periods, it can range from ten minutes to six hours. His internal clock is quite amazing." Damian laughed and Hermione couldn't help but smile. "I wish Harry and Ron were organized like that, the times I had to push them out of their beds just to get to class are much too common for my liking." Damian gazed at the book on her lap.
"Magic Bonds Through The Ages… Draco's been reading up on magical bonds too, do the eight years have a research project on bonds?" Damian asked, tilting his head causing his honey brown hair to fall in his face. Hermione narrowed her eyebrows. "No, we don't. I was just curious about it and thought I might do some research on the matter." Damian hummed in response. Hermione wanted to ask the younger boy more, but feared that she might cause him to become suspicious. It looked as if the blue eyed Slytherin didn't know that Draco could bond with magical structures. So Draco is also curious about it, but why?
"Draco's going to wake up now." Damian's soft voice announced and just as he said it the blond started to stir. Hermione watched as the thin boy slowly opened his silver eyes, blinking rapidly in an attempt to wave the sleep away with his pale lashes. Harry groaned as Draco unknowingly elbowed him in the ribs. It took about ten seconds for the Slytherin Prince to register in what position he had been sleeping in and it was with a gasp of horror that he jumped away from the snoozing Boy Who Lived. He gave Harry a scathing glare, as if blaming the Gryffindor Golden boy for this predicament but the look was ruined for his face had colored a dark pink from his embarrassment. Draco cursed his heart which was beating a million beats a minute, What in Merlin's name is wrong with me, stupid bloody organ,(no pun intended) Stupid Potter? He could hear Damian's faint laughter behind him. Brushing of his clothes as if nothing had happened, the silver eyed boy turned to face his snickering Slytherin roommate.
"I am so pleased to see that you find this so amusing Chavalier, though I must inform you that tittering like a hufflefpuff first year is quite indecorous and improper. Please show some of the refined Pure Blood grace and etiquette's you harbor whilst we have guests to entertain." Draco huffed. Damian only laughed louder.
"I was not the one to fall asleep in the presence of said guests now am I?" Draco sniffed, turning his gaze to the side. Hermione watched the two Slytherins, with a small smile though it turned into a frown once she remembered what she had read. Glancing at the potion that Snape had entrusted her to give to his godson, the silver flecks glimmered tauntingly only increasing her unease.
"Argh Chavalier, would you stop grinning like a psychotic imbecile!" Draco exclaimed, his silver eyes lightened with annoyance. Damian simply hummed, his grin growing impossibly larger as the blond Slytherin's hands twitched with his urge to attack the younger boy, with mauling tendencies of course. "I'll stop grinning once you stop being so cute" Damian replied, and with a Gryffindor bravery dared to pat the fuming Malfoy's head. Too shocked and infuriated to flinch at the touch, the Slytherin Prince pounced.
Hermione was startled, watching as the honey brown haired boy tumbled to the ground, a snarling blond landing on top of him. The bushy haired witch was about to stun the two fighting Slytherin boys, but paused at the sound of an unfamiliar laugh, it was deep yet soft as it traveled through the room. A slightly lighter laugh joined in which she recognized as Damian's. It was only then that she realized that the mysterious laugh belonged to non-other than Draco Malfoy. It came as quite a shock that she had never heard the Malfoy heir's natural laugh after all these years.
"Merlin, I needed that." Draco sighed. After his nightmarish dream his body had been so tense he feared that his limbs would tear with the slightest of movements, but now they felt like jelly. He frowned a little, berating is annoying body. If it wasn't to tense it was much too relaxed, where was the equilibrium? Damian, who was still trapped underneath the blond Slytherin closed his eyes, smiling like a madman with seer happiness. He had finally made his friend laugh, how he had missed that sound.
"Bloody hell! What's going on here?" Ron exclaimed as he saw the two snakes sprawled on the ground. Draco lifted his gaze towards the gaping red head. "Sorting out our differences." He grinned evilly, somehow grasping a shard of his broken Malfoy persona. Damian then decided to roll away causing the smug blond to land on his side with an undignified 'oof' No one had noticed the leaf green eyes that had follow the exchange between the two boys quite intently.
Brushing of his robes, Draco stretched, his bones creaking after his rather stiff yet comfortable nap. "What were you thinking, his sick!" Ron turned on Damian, who in return simply shrugged his shoulders. Draco tried to squash the smile that threatened to break free at the protective red head's antics. He would never admit it but he enjoyed Ron's fretting and protective big brother acts. Being an only child he wondered if this was what it was like to have siblings. On more than one occasion he and the Weaslette would have a heated row about it, the blond scoffed as he recalled how the red headed witch complained about Ron's protectiveness and constant interference with her life. He had simply called her a selfish and ungrateful bint where after the others had to physically remove Draco and Ginny from each other as the fight escalated. She didn't know how lucky she was, the stupid hot headed twit.
"Malfoy…" Draco turned towards Hermione as the witch grasped the sleeve of his robe, her large brown eyes shown with an uneasy concern and curiosity. "Professor Snape said you had to drink this immediately." The silver eyed boy glanced at the potion in her hands and without so much as a second thought downed it. Nodding his head in thanks before discarding the glass bottle in the bin. Draco was about to head towards his room, having had enough of the Gryffindors company for now but as he passed the sofa warm hands griped his bony hips and tugged him onto the couch. The silver eyed boy spluttered slightly but luckily none of the others had noticed, all busy with their own things.
"You okay?" A deep and rough voice asked softly, muffled somewhat as its owners head was buried in the plush cushion of the sofa. Draco's heated glare cooled down as emerald green eyes peaked up at him with concern. Cute, Draco thought and for once he could not deny it nor berate himself for such a thought. "I was until you manhandled me onto the couch." Harry chuckled and unconsciously rubbed his thumbs in circular motions upon the blonde's protruding hip bones and snuggled closer to the Slytherin's side.
Draco blushed and once again his chest was drowned in that uncanny warmth. Glancing around to make sure the others weren't watching he gently stroked the Boy Who Lived's dark and unruly locks. It was so soft and Draco had to stop himself from smiling as his long pale fingers got lost in the forest that was Potter's hair. The white digits untangled some knots as he continued to comb his hand through Harry's hair.
Harry had to suppress the urge to moan in pleasure as Draco's pianist fingers messaged his scalp, it felt so good that the Gryffindor Golden boy forgot everything, only focusing in the wondrous feeling of Draco's fingers. They remained like that for a while, a shiver ran down Draco's spine as Harry's arm wrapped around his waist, his face buried in the Slytherin's stomach. In an instant it was as if both boys broke free from their entrancement jumping back from each other. They stared at each other, eyes large with shock and confusion, hearts racing whilst their cheeks blazed. Draco was the first to act stuttering like crazy he excused himself and practically sprinted to his room.
Covering his face with his hands, Draco slid down the door to the floor. His breath came in pants as he tried to calm down his frantic heart. Hogwarts groaned and whined in protest and in a sudden urge the door flew open causing the Slytherin to land on his back. "No, for fucks sake, just because you fancy Potter does not mean I want to spend any more time with him!" Draco struggled with the door and with a lot of wrestling and many cursed words at the stubborn building he finally managed to slam the door shut. Hogwarts growled but Draco ignored it as he crashed into his bed, his mind whirling. "Merlin, what are you doing to me Potter?"
Harry stared as the blond Slytherin dashed away, he tried to calm down his heart rate and groaned burring his face into the pillow of the sofa, cursing since said pillow smelled like Draco. Unable to resist Harry inhaled the Malfoy heir's scent, a mixture of apple and spice with a heavenly undertone of something which was uniquely just Draco. Harry couldn't remember ever feeling like this, so needy. He wanted to feel those hands in his hair again, wanted to embrace the slim boy, bury his head into his long pale neck and inhale his intoxicating scent which the Gryffindor feared he might become addicted to. Banging his head in hope of ridding it of such thoughts Harry couldn't stop the smile that appeared as he thought about the blond. "God, I am in trouble…"

Draco woke with a start, tears glistened in his eyes and he struggled to muffle the scream that wanted to rip through his parched throat. The Slytherin's body trembled with the aftermath of the nightmare, he wrapped his arms around his legs and pulled his knees close to his chest. As the minutes passed the tremors subsided and the Malfoy heir breathed deeply. He opened his eyes and caught a glimpse of something moving in the shadows, shifting closer to him leisurely. Draco was paralyses with fear, his frantic heartbeat loud in his ears. Not again.
The shadow stilled mere inches from his bed, as if contemplating how to proceed. Draco stared in the darkness trying to make out what the shadow would do but as the dark mass reached out to him the Slytherin panicked. He scuffled back, tangling himself in his blankets with his haste to escape from It. The confines of the material added to Draco's hysteria, restricting him. Hogwarts was whining, trying to get the blond boy's attention but Draco ignored the warm nuzzling sensation the building was causing to his magical core in an attempt to calm him. Draco twisted his body trying to escape his bindings but it only tightened the restraints and the Slytherin was close to hyperventilating from sheer terror as the shadow hovered over him. This is it…
Hands grabbed his shoulders, struggling against the hold Draco could barely hear as a voice called him. He tried to break free from the shadow's hold yet it was relentless. Unmovable and unbreakable just like a prison and chains. It holds you down, captures you and binds you to its will. Never ceasing it torture as it strips and tears away all your freedom. The voice grew louder yet the blond boy could not hear it as his breath grew ragged. A single word reached his ears though, 'Lumos!'
Light filled his eyes, blinding him for a second before it retreated, illuminating the surrounding area. Draco blinked trying to get rid of the black dots that danced before his eyes from the sudden brightness.
"You alright Draco?" The blond boy looked up as he heard his name. Silver eyes locked with deep ocean blue and the Slytherin Heir could not help to be entranced as he watched the emotions swirling in those indigo pools. "D-Damian?" The younger boy started as Draco called his first name, staring down at the Malfoy heir that was sprawled on the soft carpet, tangled in his blankets which were twisted around his figure in a remarkable way. Damian smiled lightly, as he started untangling the materials from the blonde's body. "So you're the shadow…" Draco sighed, closing his eyes as his body sagged in relief. He didn't even try to untangle himself, leaving it to the honey brown haired boy. Why should he make the effort if somebody else was willing to do it? A smirk graced the slender boy's face for an instant, reminiscence of his Malfoy persona, before it faltered.
The dreams were getting worse and Draco knew that it would be only a matter of time before something bad happened. The unease he was feeling never parted from him. What would happen if he accidentally broke his trail restrictions, the Ministry would try to send him to Azkaban but he cannot physically leave the castle? If they find out about the bond what would they do? Will they try to find a way to break the bond, will they use it to their advantage or would they simply try to kill him to be done with it. His mind was racing as the different scenarios played in his mind all ending with him dead or worse a tool. Hogwarts was humming in an odd way, and once the Slytherin Price deemed it worthy of his attention it suddenly flared, drowning him in warmth and calm. Washing away all his worries.
"Draco?" Damian asked, he had watched as conflicting emotions played in the blonde's liquid silver eyes but just as suddenly they were gone. "I am fine, just a nightmare. Nothing to fret about." Draco drawled as he lifted himself from the ground, finally freed from the horrid blanket confines. For good measure he glared at the treacherous material and kicked it away, smiling with satisfaction. Damian chuckled at the smug look on Draco's face after he had avenged himself. "You seem to be getting them a lot these days." Draco looked aghast that the taller boy had noticed, which only caused said boy to laugh at his stricken face once again.
"We share a room. Of course I'd notice. If you want to talk about it or if there is anything else I could do to help, let me know okay?" Draco watched as the younger boy retreated to his bed and without knowing why he shuffled after him. Damian simply glanced at him before scooting over leaving some space for the Malfoy heir. The Slytherin Prince contemplated the offer and with difficulty crawled onto the bed. "You know it's odd but this feels so familiar. I thought I would be disgusted or at least a bit put off but… It's nice." Damian just smiled and Draco couldn't help but return it. "Could I ask you something?" Damian hummed a yes in reply and Draco shifted his gaze looking at the window. There was no moonlight that night and even the stars were being drowned by the darkness.
"Why do you admire me so much? Even before we met it seemed that you wanted to get closer to me hence your stubborn and infuriating habit of calling me by my first name. Why?" Draco asked. Damian thought about what to tell the older boy. "You might not remember but when we were children, you helped me and my family. You have always been my hero." Before Draco could reply that he was not like some Gryffindor Golden Boy that needed to be hero worshiped, Damian cut him off.
"But now I wish for nothing more than to be someone you can rely on, a true friend." The Malfoy heir would usually list such a statement as a lie, a deceitful approach to get close to him and to try to destroy him but for some reason Draco believed him. There was something about this boy that made Draco want to trust him, and that was both frightening and fascinating. Sleep was slowly starting to overpower the need to question the blue eyed boy and before slumber could engulf him Draco subconsciously gripped Damian's hand tightly. "Thank you…"
