Chapter 21: Dragomon
Benny: Where are we?
Claire: This is scary…
TK: This is the Dark World…we still have to figure out a way to get to the eternal darkness.
Voice: Digidestined…it's an honor to meet you.
TK: That voice…
Grant: It scares me…I never get scared…
Kari: It's Dragomon…
Dragomon: Well noticed. Kari…I've been waiting for you. You were supposed to help us! You let us all down!
TK: Listen here pal! She will never help you!
Dragomon: You intervened all these years ago. You changed the course of history!
TK: SO?! I did what I had to do! I would have never let the love of my life spend eternity next to you!
Dragomon: You are very brave young TK…
TK: Huh…
Dragomon: I know why you are here…you want to get to the Eternal Darkness…that place is dreadful even for someone like me…I rule these lands, but once together with the light we were in balance. There was darkness and light. When Apocalymon broke through the firewall the darkness became stronger and then you all defeated him. When my dark creatures called you here, Kari, we wanted to give darkness an upper hand, but now I see it was wrong…darkness and light should be in balance.
Benny: How do we know we can trust you?!
Dragomon: Apocalymon is back. He abducted your mother Kari…he tricked her so he can use her to get you inside the eternal darkness and defeat you. You will not win Kari. There is no way out. I will give you three options. I will not hold you back from any of your choices.
Benny: What choices?
Dragomon: The first…I will hold back all the Dark Digimon and creatures here. You return to your world and the door to this world will close. Light will come back to the Digital World and yours.
Claire: That actually sounds great!
Kari: But what about my mom?
Dragomon: She will spend eternity in the eternal darkness.
TK: NO! NO WAY!
Dragomon: The second option…I let you through and you all will face Apocalymon. I don't know if you will win or lose…but the chances are slim…
Claire: That sounds scary…
Dragomon: There is also a third option…
Kari: What is it?
Dragomon: TK? Do you want to share it with the rest…I know Gennai and you talked about it…
Kari: What?!
TK: Kari…listen…
Dragomon: Tell her!
TK: The reason I have received my Human Spirit so early is because I already knew whom we would face. Gennai came to me…the day I found out about…
Kari: About what?!
TK: Kari…I'm sick…the doctors didn't give me a chance…they said it'll be a couple of months…but then Gennai came…each time I evolved…it helped me to extend my lifespan…he told me what we would have to do and that one day I will have to make a sacrifice for the girl I love.
Kari: What?! No please don't tell me!
TK: If we chose option one... I will die… Option two…we all die probably and even so…I will still die no matter what…then there is option three (he took out a golden dagger)…this…Gennai gave me this…it's the Golden Dagger of Azulongmon…with it, souls can be exchanged. The plan is that I trade places with your mother…
Kari: But why?! Why can't we just save her!
TK: We will all die…Apocalymon is not the same anymore…
Dragomon: TK is right…your mother is now blocking his escape. If she is leaving without Apocalymon defeated…all worlds will be consumed by darkness. TK can ensure the same thing…he can block Apocalymon just as well.
Kari: NO! WE WON'T! I will not give up on you TK!
TK: Kari…
Kari: NO! NO! NO!
TK: Kari…I will do this…there is no escape for me from this…at least not for me…and if I can make sure you are safe…I'd do anything! (Kari was crying in his arms)
Benny: TK…
Claire: This is true love…
Grant: You can say that out loud.
Dragomon: Even if I had succeeded all those years ago…you two would have found a way to each other.
Kari: Please TK…there must be another way!
TK: Kari…there is none. I want you to promise me something!
Kari: No! No!
TK: Please Kari…I want you to be happy. I don't want you to dwell on me. I want you to find love and live and laugh! Can you promise me this?
Kari (crying and looking in his eyes): You know that I will never love anyone else like you. But I promise…
TK: Thank you.
He kissed her before he broke lose and smiled at her.
TK: Until we meet again.
With that TK stabbed himself in the heart with the dagger and a bright flash appeared. Before everyone could open their eyes TK was gone and Kari's mother was lying unconscious on the ground.
Dragomon: It worked. Now you will have to leave. I will close the portals!
In an instant they all disappeared from the Dark World and were back at the stadium.
Tai: KARI! KARI! You're back!
Camille: BENNY!
Sasumu: I can't believe it…you brought her back!
Natsuko: Wait…where is?
Matt: Where is TK?!
Kari (crying): He…he…
Benny: He gave his life to save ours. Everything will be back to normal now.
Tai: Oh no…Kari…
Natsuko: My son…
Matt: TK…
