The room is chaotic. I feel as if I'm standing in the middle of a stampede with wild animals chasing one another, hungry for blood. Thick yellow dust comes up to my ankles, making it hard for me to move as I run around the Lobby, occasionally stepping over wounded demigods.
All around me, monsters and demigods fight. Hellhounds, Cyclops, Telekhines, Empousas, even a gorgon, slices their claws and bares their teeth.
I'm struck dumbfounded straight in the middle of the mayhem, barely even hearing the battle cries and screeches of the dying. How did this happen? I was so careful!
To my right, a familiar looking girl who I believe went to Camp Half-Blood, yells nasty words and taunts a Cyclops. Her sword is long and intimidating- she glows a rosy red. A blessing of Ares. The tough looking girl dodges a rock thrown from the Cyclops and slides underneath it's legs, stabbing the beast in the thigh.
A squeak of panic escapes my lips but the girl doesn't notice, she quickly moves on to the next monster. I quickly realize this fight isn't going too well for the monsters. How can that be? Monsters are suppose to be the strong ones!
Occasional dirt falls from the ceiling and the pounding of things hitting the walls shakes the floor. Even though I anticipate Gaea to do something about this, it doesn't even seem she notices. My foot stomps the ground. Atë had to be a distraction! She kept me with her to keep me from coming back and stopping the escape!
"You're her!" A boy says behind me. I twirl around to face a young boy, probably around twelve. "You're the betrayer."
A scowl twists up on my face, my dagger raises high in the air and slams down on the boys forehead. It's not until he crashes to the ground and I see no blood, when I realize I didn't use the blade. I only used the hilt.
A demigod with a purple shirt slams into me, sending me crashing to the floor. An angry cry flies out my mouth as dust enters my eyes and throat. When I look up, Percy Jackson is standing in front of me.
Caught completely off guard, I struggle to stand, my burns stinging with every movement. The still wet blood on my hands causes the dust to stick to my palms. I wipe them on my body gauze.
"Chase," Percy nods, bringing Riptide out in front of him in a defensive pose.
"How are you out?" I demand.
Percy smiles. "We're the seven," He says. "Plus we had a little help."
As long as I've been at Camp Half-Blood, I've never met the son of Hades. People always described him as if a ghost- there were stories but no actually proof of the person itself. But here he is. Standing straight in front of me with his sword drawn.
"How did you get in here!"
"I have my ways," Nico replies, taking a step forward.
Percy opens his mouth, but I don't give him a chance to speak before bursting into action. My dagger swings towards Nico, aiming straight for his shoulder. Easily, he defends himself. His sword clangs into mine, swiftly he sends a strike at my stomach.
My face is back in the dust as I've ducked from the attack. "Urgh!" I yell, taking my dagger and slashing it across his ankles.
Nico moves a second too late. It was only a scratch, but my attack drew blood. I stand back up, breathing heavily. The air is thinner with all the demigods and monsters, making it almost impossible to breath. My lungs take in large gulps of air.
Sometime between the start of the fight, Percy got distracted by a gorgon. A couple of feet to the left, he stands in his own battle.
Nico charges back at me, his black sword long and intimidating. While I block his blow, Nico's elbow slams into the side of my skull. Black dots splatter my vision, causing me to slam to the ground.
I lose to a fourteen-year-old boy.
No.
Not happening!
I push my agony away, refusing to feel the pain of my burns and throbbing head. Nico's surprised this time. However, his sword is steady and ready in a millisecond. But I'm not using my dagger.
Even though my fingers are coating in blood, the familiar tingling sensation that I love still feels equally as vibrating. Ice coats Nico's feet, bringing the temperature in the room down a few degrees. He seems to realize what I'm doing halfway through the process and starts to move.
The ice is too strong. It doesn't break, only cracks, and I take it as my chance to escape. I've got to tell mom.
"Move!" I yell, shoving demigods from my path."Outta my way!"
"Chase!"
I stop dead in my tracks. "Leo," I breath, turning around to stare at the boy who brought me so much pain, yet so much happiness.
He's holding a hammer and his face is covered in scratches and black dust. "I don't want to hurt you, Chase… Just come with us. Help us defeat these monsters."
"You're trying to trick me again!" I let out a scream and my arms fly in the air. "Why is everyone trying to get inside my damn head!"
"I'm not trying to trick you!" Leo argues. "I'm trying to help you!"
"Oh, yeah, sure. You totally help me by throwing a ball of fire at me and burning off my freaking skin!" My grip tightens around the dagger.
Leo's face falls in hurt. "I had no choice! I never wanted to hurt you. There wasn't a second that went by that I wasn't thinking about you. At first, I was so angry, but then I realized you don't know any better. You need to think for yourself."
"I am thinking for myself." I am, aren't I?
"No you're not! Look at me, Chase! You couldn't possibly think I'm evil, could you?"
I glare at him. "Out of my way, Leo."
"I can't move. No matter how hard I try not to like you, I just can't. I can't let you do this."
On the inside, my heart shatters. However, my face remains a rock. "Help!" I scream. "Help!"
A Lycaon swarms to my side and bares it's razor sharps teeth at my once lover. Leo looks just as shocked as I do. I wasn't aware Gaea was sheltering werewolves.
"Not another mutt," Leo grumbles.
"Play nice," I sneer. "Remember they can only be killed by silver."
The Lycaon pounces.
"Mom!" My lungs suck in gasps of air, my hands rest on my knees, doubled over in exhaustion. You can't hear the fighting from the hallway leading to Khione's room. I knock on the door three times. No answer. "Mom?"
There's two people talking inside. I hold my breath and look through the keyhole.
Khione is standing in the center of the room. A plump, ugly, zombie looking man stands next to her. Defiantly not a giant, but he stands at least twenty feet tall. Globs of skin hang of his blue-black arms and legs.
"You'll have to take care of this mess," Khione was saying.
He smiles, revealing fangs. "Be happy to, miss. As long as the deal stands… Once the girl is dead, I get to eat her decaying corpse."
Khione waves her hand, nonchalantly. "Oh, do whatever with her, Eurynomos.. I couldn't possibly care more. You just must kill her today, I have no more use for my daughter."
My stomach twirls and I feel like I'm going to vomit. My bloody hands begin to shake, and soon, my body vibrates as well.
No. I heard wrong.
"You're daughter has been an excellent source of information, are you sure you want me to kill her?" The god, Eurynomos, responds.
"It was the plan all along, old friend! She is worthless now. After all, she is only a demigod. Demigods are pest. But indeed, she did well setting up the seven. However, I take all credit! I was the one to brainwash her mind with lies."
My mother smiles deviously. My hand slips on the knob, slamming open the door and sending me sprawling on the icy ground.
Khione yelps in surprise while Eurynomos laughs and points, saying, "Just in time, Chase! Time for you to die!"
I jump up so fast, my head spins. My dagger is out in front of me. "Mom?" I whimper. "Tell me this isn't true."
Khione's face is without emotion. "Oh dear, brighten up. We all knew it was going to come to this." She crosses her arms and my dagger shatters.
Scared and without a weapon, I lean myself against the back wall, trying to control the tears that threaten to fall. "Why would you do this to me? You told me we would be side by side together in glory! You lied to me!" I cry. "This whole time you've lied!"
She doesn't respond.
"And oh gods!" My hand runs through clumps of tangled hair. I point an accusing finger at the goddess. "You made me betray the seven! All they've been telling me was the truth, they aren't the evil ones, you are!"
Khione looks bored and Eurynomos looks hungry. "I'm not denying it, dear. Please, do continue with your tantrum."
I snap.
My legs boost me feet away where I tackle Khione to the ground.
"Ah!" She wails. Her doughnut pun in her hair falls sideways.
"How dare you!" I sob, thrashing my hands and clawing my nails randomly at the goddess. Eurynomos snatches me up by my foot and hangs me upside down.
"How sad," He sympathizes. "But I'm still hungry!"
Khione dramatically stands up. "You ungrateful little rodent!" She screeches. "I was going to make your death fast, but now you will suffer! Get her out of my sight, Eurynomos! Away with you!"
Eurynomos obeys and crouches down to go through the door, swinging me back and forth as he advances down the hallway.
My tears are the only thing you can hear.
Betrayal. Is this how the seven felt when I betrayed them? Oh man, I've screwed up… How could Khione do this to me? I thought she loved me! I'm her daughter!
A loud bang comes from the direction of the Lobby. A giants laugh echoes the walls.
They're in trouble.
I have to help, make up from my actions, and join my once friends. I just hope they will take me back with open arms… But first I need to escape this situation. But how? Hmm… What would Annabeth do?
Absorbing as much courage as I can, I yell, "Hey, zombie!"
Eurynomos glares down at me, "I'm no zombie! I'm Eurynomos!"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever! You better let me go right now or else I will use my secret power upon you," I try to sound brave as the ugly god smiles showing his sharp fangs.
"Your talk is weak, demigod. You have no secret power. Your mother would have told me if you did."
The blood rushing to my head turns my face red. "It's called a secret, that's why nobody knows! So let me down or I will destroy you!"
He laughs and brings me up to his face height. "I'm a god. You can't destroy me."
"Well you must not be very important because I've never heard of you before."
"Not important!" He roars. "If I did not exist, corpse would cover this earth! Maggots, flies and vultures come from me! We leave the skulls and eat the meat, no more of us, flesh would be everywhere!"
I respond, "Nope, defiantly not important."
Eurynomos yells in outrage. He's so distracted in his tantrum and blabbing why he is great, his drops me. I roll into a ball and fall on my side. He seems to notice his mistake as soon as I hit the ground.
"Hey!" He says, taking the long sword attached to his belt.
"Do not come any closer!" I warn. "Or else I will make you bleed to death." I try to hide my already bloody hands behind my back.
"Foolish girl! Never have I bled. Even when Apollo himself shot his arrows at me, I didn't bleed!"
"Have it your way then!" I start mumbling random words, starting from a whisper and getting louder and louder. Chanting. Chanting. The god suddenly looks nervous.
I think about Celia. How it felt to ice her over, the power it gave me. Then I think of the regret and how I killed Alex White. The pain I caused both them. The destruction. The praise I got from my mother when I told her what I did. I grow angry.
But most of all, I think about Leo.
"Arh!" I scream my battle cry and shove my arms out in the direction of Eurynomos, placing my hands on the gods leg. The curse of Ambrodea builds up so strongly, blood burst from my palms like a fire hydrant. However, since I'm standing so close to him, it looks as if the blood is gushing from his own leg.
Eurynomos screams like a little girl. "You witch! You witch!" He runs down the hall, leaving me alone.
The blood on my hands stop flowing rapidly but still remains stuck to my skin. I take down the opposite way Eurynomos went and head straight for the Lobby. I can now hear screams and yells coming from the battle.
It's time to do the right thing.
If they are willing to accept.
