My Love

Chapter 21

Family I forgot

Eve sat on the steps looking toward the door. She wasn't to sure about going to see this family. What if the woman was lying? What if she just wanted them to go to this one place to kill them all together!?

But what if she was telling the truth and she did have siblings? They wouldn't be alone! Eve felt a certain sense of excitement until she remembered what the woman said. 'They fobbed her' they did it? But why? Did they not want her? Was she not good enough? Perhaps it was just for…

"In the beginning when the Doctor and River found out there daughter was a Gatekeeper. Her little ultrasounds had wing buds and it looked so cute…but then that book. That stupid book…it was a myth really how could a Gatekeeper kill someone just by touching them? It sounds rather ridiculous doesn't it?" The woman sat down on the floor her legs crossed and her head in her hand.

"Then it happened a few times. A maid would help River into her shoes or held out her jacket for her. Strange things would happen which would result in there deaths. One was struck by a car, another was in a car wreck, another was on vacation and was thrown overboard. "

"So nothing directly related in general right?"

"Yes…but then the deaths started coming closer to home. One died in the kitchen after slipping and falling on the wet floor, another fell down the stairs, another committed suicide for fear of anything unspeakable happening because she touched Eve right after her birth. So…out of fear. After Eve was born the only one aloud to touch her was you." The woman sighed and lay back on the ground.

"But you being the Doctor…you travel. You don't like being in one place to long at all. So once Eve turned two…you left. And that's when her siblings began to tease, mock, beat, and pretty much turned her into a servant because no one would ever come around to do there work anymore for fear of death. So little Eve could be seen day in and day out cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms, and doing the laundry. She wasn't ever permitted to eat with her siblings, or even have a room. River…was oblivious to this because when she came home they were all always outside and playing something Eve was much to young to play herself so she would sit on a bench and watch to play…without her. So she just thought she was trying to learn to play."

"Rivers not stupid…she noticed something."

"Yes she did…which is why she had set up another place of residence closer to her labs. Once she left to go finish the remodel…Eve was beaten once more…and fobbed. River took her with her to New York…and began to raise her like a normal girl. Oblivious of her previous happenings."

"But wait…you said Papa knew me? That Papa…"

"He doesn't look like your Papa…he's regenerated which means…its his future self." The woman looked down at her hands and sighed.

"I'm 562,783 years old." The woman blurted out and looked up at the Doctor who seemed a bit taken aback by this information. "I was asleep in my TARDIS…or more accurately I was in cryostasis sleep until I heard Eve crying for help. I woke up with this incredible need to help her. I can't explain it. I'm not even going to try to. Being an Epsilon doesn't mean much anymore."

"Papa saved Gallifrey…its still out there. Somewhere." Eve said rocking back on her feet having stood up to stretch.

"So its your choice Eve…to go confront your family…or hide." Epsilon asked and looked up at the Doctor who sighed and shook his head.

"No…I don't want her going back there at all." The Doctor said leaning against the control panel before looking up at Eve. "They've made there intentions clear. They don't want her coming back."

"I agree. My question is…did you put those people back to the way they were before?" Eve pointed toward the door.

"Oh yeah...sorry. It was the only way I could think of to get your attention."

"Your…over 500k years old and…you look…like your in your 20s. I thought everyone…"

"Epsilons don't age. We reach a certain point and…we stay. Eve will do the same thing too."

"Do you know…about Gatekeepers?" Eve asked sitting back down.

"Yes…I know that the only reason Gallifrey is so afraid of Gatekeepers was because they chose to make one a guardian. He went crazy and stained his wings with so much blood they stayed red."

"Isn't that what stained means?" The Doctor rolled his eyes at the woman .

"I'm sorry Doctor but if I'm not welcome I'll leave. But remember. Hold onto her tightly for as long as you can…but unless she gets the energy she needs. She'll die."

"What sort of energy?" The Doctor asked looking at Eve.

"One of my talents is permittivity." Epsilon said.

"What is permi…um…permi…"

"Permittivity. It means I can create energy. A lot of Gallifrians called it soft lightning. " She said showing her hands.

"Only problem is…I will no longer exist if I were to save you."

"So whats the catch?" The Doctor asked grabbing Eves hand and pulled her to him.

"No catch…I'm tired. My children and husband were killed long ago. If I could give my life for just one person that would be good enough for me." Epsilon whispered and turned away from them. "I just need a little bit to prepare myself. Until then…you must think upon the form you wish to continue it. It'll be a bit like a regeneration." The woman whispered a good luck before going back to the door and going back into Central Park which appeared to be daylight now. Snow lightly falling to the ground.

"Are we literally going to ask her to die for me?"

"I wouldn't have minded dying before I found you." This statement caused Eve to jump up and nearly tackle the Doctor to the ground.

"Don't you dare. Never for an instant think I'm ever going to let that happen!" Eve was in tears holding him tightly to him. She felt like she didn't want to let go, the Doctor picked her up and hugged her tightly.

"I found a reason to continue living my love. But if I didn't have you I wouldn't exist either. If you were to die…I'd die too. If this woman is offering her life for yours…then yes…by all means take it." The Doctor let his daughter go before sitting down in the chair.

"I…I don't think…" The tiny Gatekeeper seemed at a loss. She wasn't sure what she wanted. She gasped when she felt a soft surge of energy from behind her. The Doctor stood up straight and went to grab Eve but the energy fluctuation threw him backwards and onto the stairs. Eve was enveloped in a ball of golden light. It would seem neither of them had a choice in the matter.
