Author's Note: Sorry again guys, but here you go it's finally done! Please remember to review, it puts a smile on my face and kind of reminds me that I have a story to finish, anyway enjoy!
"You know, I'm a lousy person." Peter whispers to me as we lay entangled in a weird yet comfortable position.
"And why is that?" I whisper into his chest where my head was comfortably nestled into.
"Because I'm doing a sucky job at protecting you, which is my conscious' only justification for shattering that promise I made to your dad."
I wiggle out of his arms and prop myself up to look him in eye so he could see how annoyed I am.
"You are the densest person in existence, you know that?"
"Oh really now. Why?"
"Because someone broke into YOUR house! How are you supposed to know that your house was going to be broken into on that particular day while I was eating a dinner that your aunt spent all day making?"
"But your bag was taken."
"You are ridiculous."
"Don't you need your stuff though?"
"Nope. Actually this is a good excuse for me to buy myself a new phone."
"You are a bit too optimistic, Gwen."
"And you are WAY too pessimistic, Peter."
He pulls me to him in a swift move, taking my by surprise, and wraps me in his arms and whispers softly, "That's why we make such a good pair."
A few weeks go by since the break in at Peter's place before I decide to go buy myself a new phone after the annoying inconvenience of being phone-less. I walk into the cellphone shop and automatically head to the kiosk selling the newest smartphone that's supposed to be doing everything. The guy asks me my name and old phone number so he could change the registration on my old phone when I told him it was stolen, and a weird look washes over his face and quickly vanishes.
"We've got a special offer on the latest iPhone!" He says in a slightly strangled tone, what is up with this guy?
"Well how much is it for?"
"50 bucks."
"YOU'RE KIDDING!" I say, my jaw dropping. Sweet!
"J-just sign here." Is it me or does this guy look kind of scared?
"Um sure." I say, taking the clipboard and pen he held out to me from his hand and skimming the paper over, but he suddenly grabs it from my hands and screams, "JUST SIGN IT!" Jeez!
I turn around, I am not taking this guy's crap, but then I hear a whimper behind me just as I almost walk out the door. "Please." The kiosk guy whimpers. There is something very very wrong going on. I flip around and run out of the place as quick as I can and don't stop till I get to the subway station. Why would one guy be so keen on selling me a stupid iPhone this bad? I walk into the cabin of the train and sit down, sifting through my muddled thoughts. What could possibly have trigged such psychotic behavior in that guy?
I walk out as soon as the train pulls into a stop and hurry towards another phone shop. As I hurry down the street towards the shop, I feel strange, like I'm being watched. My thoughts flit to Peter, and I wonder what he's doing about now. I make a sudden turn in hopes that I shake of that weird, irrational feeling of mine, but I have no such luck.
I jump a bit when I hear a jingle above the door of the next cellphone shop I just walked into. I'm being completely ridiculous. I walk up to the guy at the counter, and pay 200 dollars for that new iPhone, and thankfully this guy doesn't seem to have swallowed a whole jar of psycho pills this morning because he doesn't try to get me to sign any sketchy wavers or anything. I walk out of the shop and start to fiddle with my new iPhone with a small smile on my face. And before I get home I have already downloaded 7 new games.
"Mom I'm home and I bought a new phone!" I yell, slamming the door behind me. I walk into the dinning room and see that my family started eating without me.
"Sorry I was late, the weirdest thing happened at the first phone shop I went to." I say as I send a text to Peter that I hastily typed, informing him that I finally got myself a new phone.
"What happened?" My mother asks as I plop down in a seat and start to put some food onto my plate.
"Well the guy working at the iPhone kiosk was acting really weird. He tried to get me to sign this weird waver that he wouldn't let me read, which was part of some sketchy offer which wasn't even available at the other branch of the store I went to." I say as I start to shovel the mildly warm food into my mouth.
"You bought an iPhone? LEMME SEE!" My youngest brother cries throwing his hands up. I hand him my new phone and he lets out a little shriek of delight as he starts swiping around on my screen. It takes such simple things to make little kids happy, it's actually super adorable.
"You didn't sign anything did you?" My mom says sounding concerned.
"Of course not."
"Good. How do you like the sauce on this pasta? I added some extra oregano, doesn't it pop out at you?" My mom says. She's so easily distracted. I give her a nod and a grin and finish eating my food.
"GWWWEEEEEENNNN YOU GOT A TEXT MESSAGE FROM PEEEETER!" My brother yells, and my second eldest brother obnoxiously yanks my cellphone out of my other brother's hand and opens it, and begins to read it out loud.
"You finally got a phone! I'll come over later tonight, miss your face already. Love you." he reads, his face contorting into a weird, hilarious expression, which made my other brothers burst into a fit of laughter.
"Okay guys that's enough." I say as I grab my phone back from my brother and slip it back into my pocket.
"He looooooooooooooooves you Gwennie" My youngest brother says, batting his eyelashes at me, which makes me giggle.
"Does he now."
We all walk into the living room and my mother switches to the local news. I plop down on the couch and my youngest brother scrambles over me to sit beside me. He holds his palm out expectantly and I drop my new phone into it. I guess this is the price I pay for buying a cool new phone. I try not to feel to annoyed as I turn try to block out my brother's wiggling around while playing some obnoxious game and focus my attention to the TV.
An attractive young anchorwoman with her face set in a serious glare recites the latest news stories of in an equally serious sounding voice, saying "A man working at the iPhone kiosk at a local New York cellphone store branch is shot dead in store premises during the workday at approximately 6 PM today, no suspe-" I lose my focus as soon as I hear that first phrase, my jaw dropping in utter astonishment.
