"Come on Hide, just a little bit farther." Jazz called from atop the cliff.
His grappler was out and it's hook in the grip of the old warrior.
Ironhide grunted in response. Out of the three of them he'd gotten the least amount of energy before Starscream blew up the med bay.
Despite knowing that it wasn't the intention; a part of Ironhide believe that Jazz and Minerva were holding back on purpose.
That wasn't anywhere near the truth however. Jazz and Minerva were just as low as he was.
"Are you sure this was the best way out?" Minerva asked.
"No, but going around would just cost us more energy." Jazz explained. "Besides I've seen worse inclines back home."
"Aren't we lucky?" Ironhide grunted as he reached the top.
Both Jazz and Minerva gripped his arms, hauling him up with a great amount of effort.
"Real nice energy saver Jazz, I think my levels dropped 10%." Minerva popped open her maintenance panel to check.
"Aw that's just an exaggeration."
"You're right, they only dropped by eight."
Jazz rolled his optics and looked toward the southeast. His scanners picked up Autobot energy signals in that direction. Though as of right now his scanners were on the fritz.
He didn't know how far away they were, but they were still in that area.
"We might want to consider powering down soon." Minerva walked over, scanners at the ready.
"Can't do that, if we wait the closer the cons get to winning:" stated Jazz.
"We won't be able to fight the Decepticons if we're offline!" Exclaimed Minerva. "We've barely got enough energy to last a solar cycle."
"Well then, we'd better find ourselves some energy." Jazz said.
Minerva huffed angrily and marched in front of Jazz. He stopped and Ironhide stepped back to watch.
"Sir please we cannot go on like this." She begged.
"I can set up some probes that search for energon if you just give me some time."
Jazz was about to fire off a one liner when he stopped himself. Minerva was right; they didn't know where any energon was. On this planet, or if there was any left.
"Alright we can take a break." He said.
Minerva sighed with relief and began to search her subspace. Before she could grab them, they heard Ironhide grunt once more.
"I think Jazz had the better idea." He stated.
"Now don't you start ganging up on me!" Minerva snapped. "I'm the only medical personnel here so I-"
"You're a nurse, barely even a medic!' Ironhide snapped. Minerva scowled and marched toward Ironhide.
"Oh this won't end well." sighed Jazz.
"I may be a nurse, but at least I've got an idea of what I'm doing." Minerva said in a low voice.
"You meanwhile probably don't even have a clue to do anything besides fight!" She snapped. Both Jazz and Ironhide flinched.
Ironhide's face contorted into one of rage .
"Oh here we fragging go again, just because I used to be a Decepticon means that all I am is a giant punching machine!" Ironhide jabbed a finger into Minerva's chest.
"Let me tell you something, I can do more than punch!"
"I'd like to see you prove it!" Minerva challenged.
"Give me an opportunity and I will." Ironhide snapped. Jazz rolled over and grabbed the two of them. He slid his arms in between their chests and pushed them apart.
"Looks like you two have got a lot more energy than you're letting on." Jazz joked weakly. His joke was meet with looks from both Minerva and Ironhide.
"Look we can't waste energy arguing, we need to.-"
"Oh that's rich Jazz, given that you wanted to waste our energy not too long ago." Minerva sneered.
"Hey look, that may not have been my best moment of judgment but-" Jazz began but was cut off by Ironhide.
"Then what's your greatest moment?" He chuckled a little. Jazz frowned and shook his head. Ironhide soon stopped and grew serious once again.
"Look, if I know Megatron, if his crew was in stasis Screamer would be low on the "bring back online list." He explained.
"So either he's had a change of heart with him, or their plans already in action."
"Well, that's certainly comforting." Minerva sighed.
"Both of you need to cool down, let's rest up and see if the energy sensors work."
Jazz's response was a grunt from Ironhide and a nod from Minerva..
"I'm going to go scout around a bit, someone has got to do something useful." Ironhide said. Before either Jazz or Minerva could stop him, Ironhide had stomped off.
"Well that was..interesting." Minerva rolled her optics before readying a probe.
As she turned though, she caught sight of Jazz giving her a cross look. Minerva felt her spark sink. She knew exactly why Jazz was upset.
"That was some very bizarre behavior from ya." Jazz commented.
I-I don't know what came over me." Minerva looked away shamefully. She was always the patient one in the med bay. Ratchet had trained her to keep calm in the face of the most ornery patients. Losing her temper wasn't something she was prone too.
"Is there anything you'd like to talk about?" Offered Jazz. He wheeled over and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Oh nothing, just that we may be standing between this planet and total con victory and I'm the only fragging medic. The rest of my "team" is a commander who seems to enjoy slacking off when needed, and overdoing it when not needed. As well as one of Megatron's best friends!"
"Nothing sir, I'm just a bit concerned about where we're going." She sighed. Jazz gave a nod of reassurance.
"In my opinion the only thing we can do is hope, or go down fighting." Jazz said. Minerva let out a nervous squeak.
"We know that there are some bots online, so maybe we can fight back." Jazz smiled hopefully. Minerva looked at him and gave a nervous smile. With another nod, Jazz walked off in the direction of Ironhide.
She sighed and turned one of the probes on.
"As much as I'd like to get some more practice in, I'd like everyone to come out online…"
As the probes began scanning, she checked over her medical equipment. There wasn't much left, if there was a fight she doubted all could be repaired.
Maybe if we're lucky, Ironhide's wrong…"
The Salvage Yard.
It was almost closing time at the salvage yard. The workers were getting ready to home and everything was quieting down.
Within the Autobots garage, jokingly called "Omega 1, by Sari, the Autobots were silent as well.
Bumblebee was playing one of the audio books Sophie had given him. He was currently on a book called "Dying Embers"
Sari sat lazily atop Bee's head, listening in on the story. Hound was pleased to see that Bee was enjoying himself with something besides brooding.
Hound sighed and glanced out the window. His thoughts turned back toward the Decepticons and this planet.
The citizens of this planet were very fragile, but Hound could tell they had strong spirits. Their resilience impressed him.
Based on what he'd gathered, should his team fail humanity could possible hold their own. But for how long? It'd, only be a matter of time until Megatron ripped apart whatever bunkers they had.
We need a stronger team.
"Good news, I think I got it!" Wheeljack sang out.
All four Autobots jumped in alarm as the silence shattered. They turned their heads toward Wheeljack, who sat behind his device.
"The transmitter is up and running...kind of…" Wheeljack trailed off.
"Kind of, what do you mean "kind of?" Sari asked. "Is that like some kind of riddle, how does it work yet not work?"
"It works, it will transmit our signal perfectly!" Wheeljack snapped.
"But, it can't receive any transmissions that come back." Bumblebee rolled his optics and sighed. Hound walked over and looked at Wheeljack.
"So we won't know if someone gets the call or not?" He asked.
"Well, that's why I got the coordinates to this place." Wheeljack pulled out a data pad and handed it to Hound.
"It's on an Autobot only frequency, so we don't have a Decepticon ripping down the door."
"Depending on what mood Ironhide's in if he gets it, he might still do that." Hound mumbled. He then noticed Wheeljack's optics grow nervous.
"He switched it over to an Autobot frequency right?" He asked. Hound shook his head in response, Wheeljack looked away.
"Well, in that case I hope he has someone with him…" Wheeljack nervously chuckled.
"We're not seriously letting whether or not Ironhide and can hear us be the deciding factor are we?" asked Sari.
"No, if he's not with whoever gets the call then we'll just have to find him later.." Hound said. Sari and Bee were stunned that Hound might abandon his friend like that.
"It's not that I want to leave Ironhide alone, but we need more bots on our side." He said.
"I'm sure that Hide will be fine…" He trailed off and then looked at the transmitter
"So how do we start this thing up?" He bent down, looking the device over. Wheeljack gestured to a pair of wires that hung out from the side.
"Just plug those into your com link and then start talking."
Hound inserted the wires into the side of his head as he was told. The device hummed as the connection was made.
"Transmit on all Autobot frequencies…" He said.
Sari hopped onto the device and began inputting commands into it. She gave the thumbs up to Hound.
With a nod, Hound began to speak.
"Attention all Autobots, this is Hound, if you are out there and wondering if you're alone, wonder no longer for you are not alone-"
"Jazz are you hearing this!?" Minerva called, running over to him and Ironhide. Jazz and Ironhide had just gotten back from their scouting.
"I'm hearing it!" Jazz exclaimed happily. Ironhide looked back glumly as both of them rejoiced. He still didn't have an Autobot com frequency, so he was just confused.
"Can I ask, just what the frag is going on?" He asked.
"We're getting a message from Hound, he says that there are others!" Minerva gasped, holding her com link.
"What!?" Ironhide bellowed. "Hounds' online?"
"Sounds like it!' Jazz said happily and then paused.
"Aren't you getting this transmission Hide?" he asked, looking at him sympathetically.
"Thanks to Prowl, I never got an Autobot frequency." He spat upon saying prowl's name. It hurt a bit that Hound was broadcasting to Autobots only, but Ironhide knew that it was necessary.
If the cons got wind of there being more Autobots, they would come running.
"He's giving off a set of coordinates, you're recording this right Min?" Jazz asked.
"Sir please, I'm trying to memorize the coordinates!"
Jazz and Ironhide rolled their optics as the message came to its end. All three of them stood in silence for a brief moment before Minerva scoffed.
"I can't make any sense of these!" She cried out. Jazz and Ironhide both jumped.
"What on Cybertrons name is a latitude, and "longitude" doesn't even sound like a word!"
"They might be terms the residents of this world use." Suggested Ironhide.
"Gotta say, those are some pretty strange terms." Jazz chuckled nervously. "Can we at least track the signal?"
"I barely managed to set one up…" Minerva flipped out her readings screen.
"At least we know we're not alone." Ironhide mused.
"Yeah, but where are there and how much energon do they have is the big question." Jazz stated and then looked over at Minerva.
"Any chance that you can convert those Earth terms to Cybertronian?": Ironhide called. Minerva shot him a look and then sighed.
"Unfortunately no, this planet runs on a completely different system than Cybertron."
"It would take me a few solar cycles to learn the basics, and even more to reprogram my systems." She sighed as she checked her scanners again.
"Do you at least have a fix on the signal?" Jazz asked..
"I do, but it's faint so we may need to find some way of contacting them.." Minerva sighed, shaking her head.
Jazz reached for his com, trying to message Hound back. Unfortunately, all he could get was static.
"It might be a one way only transmitter." Thought Ironhide.
"Well then, we know which direction to head in, so let's go!" Jazz exclaimed. He moved to race off only for Ironhide to grab his arm.
"Hold up there "sir" we know the direction, but not that location!" Ironhide snapped.
"Well it can't be too far from it." Jazz said.
"We don't even know where we are, if how long ago the transmission was sent!" Minerva said.
"All due respect sir, following your course of action, is suicidal!"
Jazz stepped back in alarm. He'd never had his orders questioned like that before. The only bot who ever really criticized him was Prowl.
He wasn't a stuck up bot by any means but he usually got the job done. Many a time disproving the naysayers.
To say the least he felt a little offended by this.
"What I think we should do, is first find out more about this planet." suggested Ironhide
"Well how do ya suggest we do that?" Asked Jazz. "Ask the nearest creature on this planet?"
If Ironhide was startled by Jazz's sudden shift in tone, he didn't let on. He instead looked over toward Minerva.
"Are you picking up any kind of transmissions or signals?" He asked.
"Yes but they're kinda primitive but similar to data streams.: Minerva ran scans of the transmissions as fast as she could.
"It seems these creatures have a form of database they call an "internet.." Minerva began to run scans to understand the new language she was reading.
"Try to see if you can decipher Hounds coordinates." Jazz said suddenly.
"Already working on that."
Both Ironhide and Jazz were stunned at how fast she was going. The two of them exchanged looks as they wondered where Minerva got such speed.
In truth having a speedy work time was another thing medics had to do. Especially when they were on the battlefield.
"Alright, using a global map, I think I've pinpointed where Hound sent the transmission from." She declared, pumping her fist.
"Where was it, sent from?" Jazz asked.
"A place a bit ways away, about 300 cycles away." She said Ironhide scoffed a little.
"That's not too far, we can probably get there before the solar cycle ends." He was stopped by a glare from Minerva.
She stepped in front of the large warrior and held out her arms.
"It's not a far distance, if you have a full tank of Energon." She stated. "Which need I remind you, none of us have at the moment?"
"Well we can't just sit here and wait for our fuel to run out." Jazz rolled over, placing his hands onto his hips.
"Any chance we can get into contact with whatever place has them?" He looked at her. Minerva shrugged in response before she pulled up the internet again.
"The natives of this world seem to have these things called…"telephones" that use wires."
"Maybe we can hook up our com links to a wire and then-"
"Absolutely not!" Minerva snapped once again. Jazz rolled back in surprise.
"The data streams may be primitive but one wrong move can fry your processor!" She exclaimed, a hint of worry creeping into her voice.
Jazz looked at her before shrugging. They all knew that there really wasn't another alternative. If Hound had any energon with him then they needed it.
But Minerva was right in how low their energon tanks were. If the terrain was like the ones they'd already encountered then it was a suicide mission.
"Well does anybody have a better idea?" Jazz asked, wanting to make sure.
Neither Ironhide nor Minerva said a word, so Jazz just chuckled to himself.
"Well then, let's go find a "telephone pole." He said.
"Sir please I strongly-" Minerva interjected.
"Minerva, trust me when I say, I know what I'm doing." Jazz said before he began to roll off. She stared after him, a look of anger crossing her face.
"Why does he have to be so difficult?" She asked.
"Probably because no one's really told him no…" Ironhide said, walking past Minerva. She stared after, before retracting her sensors.
As she ran to catch up her mind went back to his words. She began to wonder, just how right was Ironhide?
It didn't take very long for them to find a telephone pole. A long series of them stretched off into the horizon alongside an empty road.
The three of them walked out of the tree line and over to the poles. Jazz rolled forward and began to study them intently.
"So now what do we do?" asked Ironhide gruffly.
"Well we can't just stick the wires into our skulls like commander Jazz wants." said Minerva.
"Those wires have a form of electricity running through them, they can shock your systems just by disconnecting them."
Jazz chuckled and then rolled over to the wires. He made a big show of raising his hands up to the both of them.
His hands began to get coated in a silvery substance. It flowed from his wrist to his fingers before they solidified. He grinned and then flexed his fingers.
"What the frag is that stuff?" Asked Ironhide.
"Special type of alloy, takes the bulk of electrical charges for you." Jazz said and then grabbed hold of the wires.
Minerva bit her lower lip as Jazz began to work at disconnecting the wire. It took him a while to go it without breaking the wire but eventually he had it undone.
"Okay so now I just plug this into my audio…" Jazz said, he began to move it toward his head but Minerva to rush over and slap it from his hand.
"Are you crazy sir!?"
Jazz gave Minerva a hard look. Despite his laid back personality his temper was slowly starting to get the better of him.
"What was that for?" he demanded.
"You weren't even getting near your comlink, you could have fired your processor!" She exclaimed.
"Well then how about you help me direct it to my com?" Jazz asked.
"Sir I cannot condone such an action under any condition!"
Before their argument could escalate, Ironhide stormed over, grabbed the cord and then grabbed Jazz's head. Jazz was unable to say a single syllable before the cord was jammed into his comlink.
An electrical jolt shot through Jazz's systems for a brief moment. He let out a yelp and clutched his helmet. Luckily the shock died down rather quickly.
"What the frag did you do that for!?" Minerva whipped around, facing Ironhide angrily. "You could have killed him!"
"I was thinking about getting a move on, but the two of ya keep bickering like sparklings!" Ironhide snapped back.
"You're talking about wasting Energon, and we are by arguing all the time." He looked toward Jazz, who was now trying to decipher the info going into his processor.
"Look sometimes we Autobots argue in order to figure things out, that's how it works sometimes." Minerva said.
"What do you mean by "we Autobots?"
"Well you know, we're allowed free will while you're ruled by a tyrant." Minerva said. Her optics went wide when she realized what she just said.
Ironhide clenched his fist and raised it high. Minerva yelped and leapt to the side as Ironhide crashed his fist into the ground.
"Come on hide..let's be rational here…" Minerva offered.
"That went out the window the fragging second you called me a blind sheepitron!"
"Those weren't my exact..words…" She stammered out as Ironhide began to advance on her.
Before he could take another step, Jazz's grappler flew in between the two of them. They looked over to see Jazz standing there was an unamused expression.
"Alright you two, back off." Jazz said harshly. Both of them stared at Jazz, who glared back at them
"Do I need to say it again, move away from each other!" He barked.
Both Minerva and Ironhide jumped at the harsh tone that came from Jazz. Ironhide shot one more glare toward Minerva before he walked back toward the trees.
"Minerva, could you please come here?" Jazz asked. Minerva hesitated for a brief second before she jogged over to Jazz.
"What do you need commander?" She asked.
"A..series of numbers…" He said.
"What?"
"A series of numbers, apparently it's required for communication on this planet." Jazz said.
"Must be some kind of activation code then." Minerva stated. She began to trace Hound's signal; again. Using the human's data streams she sound the salvage yards phone number.
"Okay I think I've got the access codes"
Unbeknownst to Jazz and Minerva, a group of people had spotted them. They had seen Ironhide's attempt to take down Minerva.
Not only that, but they had recorded it and were now calling their friends.
The Autobots in the garage all jumped as the door slammed open. They turned their gaze and watched as Anthony walked in, carrying a cordless phone.
"Hey Anthony, what's up?" Hound asked nervously.
"You're friends are on the line." he said a bit bitterly. "I just got someone screaming Cybertronian into my ear."
Before any of them could get a word in, Anthony set the phone down, put it on speaker, and then ran outside. The four bots stared at the phone in confusion when a voice come out the other end.
"Is anyone there?"
"Jazz!?" Hound jumped to his feet in surprise.
"Hound dog!, glad to hear your voice again!" The other Autobots perked up at the sound of Jazz's voice.
"Well I'll be, we've got other survivors." Wheeljack laughed.
"That Wheeljack?" Jazz asked.
"Yes, I, Wheeljack, Bee, and Sari are here." Hound stated.
"Sounds like quite the crew, I'm stuck wrangling in Ironhide and Minerva.."
I'll trade you Ironhide for Bumblebee." Hound joked with a laugh. It wasn't well received by either Bee or Sari. Bee flung a tire iron at Hound, who just barely dodged it.
Still, excitement spread through the garage like wildfire. Not only were there more survivors, but Minerva was online.
Wheeljack especially was happy. He'd been going stir crazy from being unable to move his legs.
"Do you guys know where we are?" Asked Hound.
"Yeah we do, we had to use some native info to find out how to contact ya." Jazz chuckled nervously. Not wanting Hound to know about the situation with Ironhide.
"Only problem is we don't have enough energon to make it that far."
The garage Autobots all gave each other looks. In their excitement they'd forgotten the energon situation. Their energon supply was barely enough to sustain them already. Unless they found more energon quickly then they would run out very soon.
"Give us a minute Jazz…" Hound said.
He motioned for the energon case to be brought over. Bee grabbed it and carried it over to Hound.
Peeking in, Hound checked over the energon cubes and began to mentally divide them up. He frowned when he realized that there was enough to last them two and a half deca cycles.
He looked up toward the others and looked at them all.
"We've got enough to last us twenty five earth days with them here." He said.
"But we don't even know where more energon could be!" Sari said.
"Does it matter?" asked Wheeljack. "We can't just leave our comrades!"
"Listen to us, we're sounding like greedy Decepticons!" Bumblebee snapped. The others looked at him in alarm. Bee stared at them all, then crossed his arms.
The other Autobots looked away. Bee was right though. They were Autobots and they looked out for each other. No matter how bleak the situation.
"Jazz, how far away are you from us?" Hound asked, turning back toward the phone.
"According to Minerva, about three hundred cycles."
"Five hours away." Wheeljack whistled.
"The slag is an hour?"
"Jazz, we'll start making our way to you tomorrow." Hound said, looking at the others. "Just try and make your way toward us and tomorrow we'll meet you halfway." .
"Sounds like a plan Hounder!" Before another word could be said, the phone connection went dead. Hound panicked as the dial tone noise came.
"No,no,no SLAG!" He cursed.
"What's wrong?" asked a nervous Sari.
"I forgot to tell him to stay out of sight from humans .." Hound trailed off. There was a long pause once again.
"Well I know what's going to be on the news tomorrow." Wheeljack quipped.
"What did you find?" Minerva asked.
"Hound's not alone and he's got energon." Jazz said, beaming at her with a laugh.
"Who's he got with him?" Minerva grabbed his arm excitedly. Jazz gently moved her fingers off him. She was gripping so tight that she left grooves.
"Sari, Bumblebee, and Wheeljack." He said.
Minerva breathed a sigh of relief that Wheeljack was alive. She'd been trying to fix him before the ship entered orbit. She was worried that his injuries meant he'd been killed in the crash.
"Hound wants us to move closer to his position and he'll meet us halfway." Jazz said. Minerva was about to speak up, but Jazz stopped her.
"I know it's not a good idea to you but it's all we got." He said. Deciding that she didn't want another argument, Minerva backed down with a sigh.
Jazz looked around. They needed to grab Ironhide and go. With as big as he was he shouldn't be hard to find. Before he could roll any further, Ironhide came crashing through the tree line.
"There ya are Hide, we were just about to look for ya."
"We need to leave, now!" Ironhide said sharply.
"Why….what did you do this time?" Minerva asked.
"It's not what I did, it's what "we did!" Ironhide snapped, before pointing down the road.
"We've apparently stirred up the locals!"
Jazz and Minerva both looked in the direction that Ironhide was pointing. Several police vehicles had set up barricades blocking off road access to them.
Dozens of humans stood around the barricades and their vehicles. Many of them with binoculars, trying to get a good view of the Autobots.
"You'd think they'd never seen an Autobot before." Jazz chuckled.
"I hadn't noticed." Ironhide grunted.
A strange whirring sound came over head, causing the tree to look up. A pair of news helicopters were flying overhead, cameras pointed directly toward them.
From the west were three more helicopters inbound, but these were a little less peaceful then the news choppers. The military copters flew into the area, weapons trained on the Autobots.
"That doesn't look too good." Ironhide said in awe.
"Maybe we can talk to them, let them know we've got no bad intentions." Minerva suggested.
"I'd say it's worth a shot." Jazz rolled toward the helicopters as they came in low. The choppers went into formation, all weapons trained on Jazz.
"Attention...robots, this is the U.S Military put your hands into the air!" One of the pilots shouted into a megaphone.
"Loud bunch of creatures." Minerva said, placing her arms over her audios."
"Maybe that's just how they communicate here." Shrugged Jazz. He cupped his hands over his mouth and began to yell.
"GREETINGS CITIZENS OF THIS PLANET. WE ARE AUTOBOTS FROM THE PLANET CYBERTRON!"
"WE MEAN YOU NO HARM-"
Jazz's response was the sound of hundreds of screams. Like Hound he had no idea how sensitive human ears were.
Unfortunately this meant he'd just yelled something that cause ear aches for miles around. The entire crowd of humans clutched their ears in pain.
Within the choppers, the personnel on hand assumed that Jazz's yelling was a sonic attack.
"Open fire and destroy that thing!:" One of them yelled to the others.
A spray of bullets flew from the machine guns on the choppers. Jazz knew a weapon when he saw one and dove to the side.
"I think they misinterpreted my gesture!" He called to the others.
"You think!?" Both Ironhide and Minerva shouted in unison.
One of the choppers got a clear lock on Ironhide and fired a rocket. Minerva screamed and ran way. Ironhide just stared at the rocket as it slammed into him.
Jazz and Minerva both looked at toward where Ironhide was standing in shock. Ironhide walked out of the smoke, a smirk on his face.
"That's why I'm called Ironhide!" He laughed.
More rockets began to fly from the helicopters at them all. Jazz and Minerva both made a break for the woods. Ironhide walked behind them, slapping and grabbing the missiles launched toward them.
All three of them jumped down a slope and onto another road. The Helicopters flew overhead and then began to turn around.
"We need to start moving." Minerva said. "Our armors not as strong as Ironhide's."
"Then we move toward where Hounds transmission came from." Jazz said before he looked back at Minerva and Ironhide.
"To steal one of Primes lines, let's roll out!"
Quickly the three Autobots all transformed. Unaware just how rough earth roads could be compared to Cybertrons. The trio set off, Minerva leading the way, Jazz in the middle, and Ironhide taking up the rear.
The entire time, the choppers flew behind them.
Poor Poor Jazz. XD Next time, fight scenes!, ACTION, Autobots vs the Decpeticons!
And Hopefully I can get it out before the end of the month!
