(I don't own My Babysitter's a Vampire. Sorry I haven't updated in so long, I had really bad writers block but then I got the idea for this chapter and feel I can really build on it for future chapters so enjoy!)
Ethan's POV
I never thought that planning a wedding would be this hard, Sarah and Erica have been talking about it for weeks, if I hear the word 'bouquet' one more time, I may stake myself! Benny just finds it hilarious to watch me frantically tear my hair on a daily basis, the joke is on him though because I've seen Erica eying Sarah's engagement ring, good luck Benny! I wander into the lounge to find Sarah and Erica sitting on the couch having a heated debate about bridesmaid dresses, I try to back out of the room without being noticed, as I have no wish to get between two girls in an argument, but with little success as I trip on the leg of the coffee table, causing me to yelp in pain. Sarah and Erica's heads snap up to locate the disturbance and train their eyes directly on me. "Ethan, do you think the dresses should be scarlet or cream?" Sarah asks sweetly but putting an emphasis 'scarlet'.
"Um..." I stall, wishing that I was anywhere but here.
"That's not fair! You can't put the idea in his head like that!" Erica mutters, only to receive a scowl from Sarah. Sarah slinks towards me, coming to a stop with her face only a few centimetres away from mine.
"Are you feeling okay?" I question, suddenly concerned as I take in her appearance. Her face is pale and clammy, her eyes bloodshot, the skin beneath them sags slightly with a grey tinge that does not belong there and her breathes are strangely ragged and uneven.
"Yeah I'm fine, just a bit tired" she sighs, giving me a faint smile. I pause for a moment, still concerned, but let it go as I know she is probably just fatigued and sleep deprived from her late night wedding planning sessions with Erica.
"I think I would prefer..." I pause, searching between the two girls to estimate who is more likely to stake me if I disagree with them "...scarlet". Sarah sends Erica a smug grin while Erica keeps her eyes focused on me, probably trying to work out which would be the best way to murder me in my sleep.
"I win, oh yeah, oh yeah, in your face!" Sarah sings as she performs a small victory dance around Erica. She stops suddenly, her hand flying to her head, she stands there swaying for a few seconds before plummeting to the ground.
"Sarah?!" I exclaim, dashing to her side, taking her limp hand in mine.
"Sarah, can you hear me?" Erica yells as she joins me, I hear someone burst into the room and crash down on her other side but can't tear my eyes away from her gaunt face.
"Is she breathing?" Benny's voice seems muffled as if he is a long distance away. I see his hand snake up to her neck to check for a pulse, only to pull away quickly before again appearing into view with one on top of the other, bringing the heals of his palms down onto her chest. "Come on, Sarah! Work with me here!" Benny grunts as his hands pump up and down, desperately trying to get her heart beating again. I see him lean in, but before he can get to her mouth, I shove him backwards. "Ethan? What the hell are you doing?" He splutters, a look of confusion and frustration on his face.
"You tried to kiss my fiancé!" I scream at him, my anger beginning to rise.
"Correction, I was trying to save her life" he bellows, trying to appear angry but I can see in his eyes that I have deeply hurt him, emotionally. I sink backwards from my crouching position to sitting, pulling my knees up to my chest and placing my head in my hands as Benny resumes CPR. I sense movement and look up to see Benny pull back, a single tear rolls steadily down his cheek as Erica bursts into tears, throwing herself over Sarah. I don't remember falling but the next thing I know, I am curled up in a ball, lying on my side as my tears trail down my face to form a small puddle on the floor.
I don't understand how this happened, she was the most important person in my life, I love her and I always will. I feel completely numb as if all meaning has vanished from this cruel world, all the colours seem duller and all the light has been torn from the world, leaving only the cold darkness of the unknown. Erica is still desperately clinging to her best friend, Benny is still resting, crouching on the balls of his feet, his eyes are glassy as he processes the scene in front of him. I struggle to my feet and sprint towards my one place of solace. I arrive in the attic before collapsing onto the dusty floorboards as I begin to shake uncontrollably, my sobs ripping through the calm silence. I lie on the floor, crying for what feels like hours, but may only have been minutes, when I feel the thud of soft footsteps against the cheek that is pressed to the floor.
"I thought you would be here" Benny states calmly, lowering himself to sit beside me. I ignore him. He just sighs, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "My Grandma is doing all she can to save her, you know...unfortunately she said...it...it doesn't look good" he mumbles, his voice breaking as he finishes. Another wave of heart wrenching grief washes over me, drowning me as I sink deeper into its murky depths.
"Wha-...what happened to her?" I whimper, finally raising my eyes to meet his.
"Grandma said that some humans have a mutated white blood cells that is harmless to them unless they are bitten by a vampire, the blood cells are immune to the vampire toxins and eventually break it down...unfortunately the person has usually been a vampire for too long and their human body has died and so eradicating the vampire toxin means that..." He trails off, unable to finish the sentence.
"...It means that Sarah is going to die" I complete, my voice cold and hard. Benny only gives a small nod in reply. "Then I have to stop it, I will do anything and everything to save her!" I push myself up from the floor and walk, quickly towards the exit.
"Wait, Ethan, there's nothing you can do, there's no cure" Benny blurted out, wincing as he braces himself for my reaction.
"Would you stop trying...if it was Erica?" I question, bluntly as a pained look crosses his face. After a moment of what appeared to be self conflict, Benny turned to me and uttered two words.
"Save her"
