Disclaimer: I still don't own KHR or any of the characters. Just my OC.
Have you ever had a massive three-way glaring contest? Well I have. With Dino, Xanxus, and your truly all gathered in the same tiny hospital room, that was the first thing that happened. I was glaring at Dino. Dino was glaring at Xanxus and our boss was glaring at everyone and everything in the room. This is one hell of a way to start a conversation or not start one since no one is actually talking. How awkward.
"So…" I started, "If you're not going to say anything, can I go now? I want to hang out with Kyoya…"
"Stupid brother-maniac, he's going to get sick of you." The boss snorted, casually reaching over to put his hand on my head.
Dino gasped at the natural contact but it wasn't really so natural. I could feel the boss' glare on the back of my head. He was going to kill me if I moved and my stomach-less self refused to even try to escape with my life. I tilted my head to the side a few times, forcing the boss to move his hand to my shoulder. I don't like it when people put their hands on my head for too long. It makes me feel short.
Dino pouted rather childishly and he rushed over to swat the boss hand away from me with bravery that I didn't even have. Good job for once, Dino. Except the boss didn't like that very much. Xanxus glared at Dino until he shifted uncomfortably and finally stepped back. So much for bravery.
"D-Don't touch her!" Dino complained.
The boss just smirked coolly and spat, "Who are you to say that to me?"
"No really though. Don't touch me." I snorted, making the boss glare at me and stubbornly put his hand back on my head, "Rude, boss. Just rude."
"You're the rudest little piece of shit I've ever met." He knocked his knuckles against my head harshly.
"Minus ten points for you." I snapped.
"You're pouting." The boss pointed out bluntly.
"I am not! That's minus another ten points, jerk!"
The boss snorted, "Who cares?"
"Umm… Can you guys not pretend that I'm not here?" Dino muttered.
"Then speak." I demanded, slapping the boss' hand away as he reached over to hit me again, "Hurry before I decide that the boss needs to be bitten to death."
Dino gulped and blurted, "You know Kyoya likes me better!"
That was a dirty trick. It's true. Kyoya's very important. Very. Very. Very important. I think Kyoya's closer to Dino. He might act like he hates the guy but that's his tutor, I'm sure Kyoya likes Dino a lot more than he let's on.
"Tch. A cheap trick." The boss snorted but he didn't argue.
"Does it matter who Hibari likes more?" Well damn… Reborn has some weird hobbies. Is that… a vase or a boat? It could pass for either. I didn't know the world's greatest hitman was into cosplay.
"The fuck are you doing here?" I demanded.
"I'm here as a favor for a friend." The Arcobaleno snickered, "I'm supposed to meddle in your love affairs."
What the fuck? Which friend?
"Aww Reborn…" Dino obviously thought that Reborn was talking about him.
"Not you, stupid Dino." Reborn slapped him in the face, "Court her with your dying will."
"Tch." The boss rolled over and waved his hand lazily, "I'm done."
"Embarrassed because there's more people now, Xanxus." Reborn snickered, "How shameful."
One tick on the boss' anger meter but he made no further moves.
"Well it's your turn now, Pipsqueak Dino." Reborn snorted.
"Uhh… W-Well I'm really s-sorry for starters." Dino laughed nervously, stuttering a little more than necessary, "S-So won't you give me a-a-another chance?"
"Pitiful." Reborn shook his head and apparently a flying kick to Dino's face was in order, "You need to be retrained. What part of 'court her with your dying will' did you not understand?"
"Ouch." Dino complained, a tiny footprint making itself comfortable on his usually beautiful face, "You didn't let her answer!"
"You think a woman would say yes to just that?"
Amused with the whole thing, I just watched him suffer. I hate to say it but I'm a sadist. A sick, sadistic bitch and I know it. So sucks for Dino.
"Reborn!" Dino whined, earning another kick to the face. He took one glimpse of my amused expression and shouted, "Kira, I'm still in love with you! Please give me another chance!"
What part of my face gave him permission to do that in front of all these people?
The boss simply reached over and grabbed my arm without saying a single word.
"Well, Hibari, which way are you leaning?" The Arcobaleno seemed to be satisfied with both reactions and finally left Dino's bruised face in peace.
"Right in the middle." I lied coldly. Obviously I've already done things with Dino, I'm still mostly for Dino but I guess it's not so obvious on a naturally angry face like mine. Thank god.
"I've got the perfect idea."
"And what would that be?"
"You sleep with both of them and figure out which one is better." Reborn blurted. And let me tell you, with that baby face, I freaked out. Hearing that from a baby is crazy.
Dino blushed a dark red, "Reborn!"
Xanxus just looked angry as usual.
"This is the best and fastest way to handle a situation like this. We're all mafia here. This is something that often happens in this profession. Stress builds and there needs to be a way to get rid of it. Stress relief often makes a person happy." Reborn explained, "But, of course, it's up to Kira."
"No." I said simply and left the room. I don't know what happened in there after I left but it solidly determined the next two weeks of my life and more subtly the rest of my life.
O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O
The morning sun was shining down on my face. I didn't go back to the hospital after our conversation yesterday, instead, I had slept in the forest like a hobo. Strangely, when I opened my eyes, Dino was standing above me with a smile, "Hey!"
"YOU!" I screamed and flipped to my feet, holding my fists up between us, "What are you doing here?!"
"You're spending the next week with me." He smiled at me, "I'll show you the Cavallone territory and stuff."
"We're going back to Italy? What about the Varia? The boss? Kyoya?"
"You're spending a week with me. Forget about everything else." Dino offered me a hand, "I'll spend this week learning more about you and I want you to learn about me too."
I slapped his hand away, "I refuse to tell you anything."
"Then I'll learn to read you." He promised, "Come on. Romario is waiting."
Just like the Bucking Bronco said, Romario had hailed a taxi and was waiting for us at the edge of Namimori. The airport wasn't far by taxi but it felt long. Dino was the only one talking. His voice filled the silence. I could feel the hostility from Dino's subordinates, Romario and Kohane. They had every right to be angry at me. I hurt their boss in a way that no one else could. I had spilled the tears of their precious leader and yet, he was still being so friendly with me. Dino was the only person in the world that could be nice enough to forgive me after all that.
His subordinates were much more realistic about it. They weren't going to trust me with their precious boss that easily. Of course. I could understand those feelings. So then… what would happen if I returned to the Varia and hurt our boss by rejecting him? They were my family just like these guys were Dino's family. Would they take my side or would it end badly all together?
"Kira, do you like planes? Or do you prefer helicopters?" How can Dino smile so brightly at me after all that I've done?
"Boss! You told us to prepare a plane!" Another one of Dino's subordinates were glaring at me after opening the door of the taxi for us, "We've been here for hours preparing a plane!"
"That's right!" Another man protested, "We can't prepare a helicopter even if she says she wants one."
"Ivan! Michael!" Dino frowned, "I told you guys to be ready for anything."
"It's fine." I cut in sharply, "I prefer planes."
Dino sighed, relieved, "That's great."
The two glared at me like I was the demon but hurried off to get Dino's luggage. I have to spend a week with these guys? Are you kidding me? They would probably stab me in the back before I get to go home.
"Boss, the plane is ready. Please get in." Romario nodded at me sharply, inviting me in but letting me know that if I tried something funny there would be hell to pay. Seems like they put up some sort of security in the plane.
My eyes shifted to the exits and the route to the control room. Emergency lasers. They would shoot me down if I tried anything funny. I snorted. They think that the only exits are there? If I really wanted to get off, I would break the windows and jump out.
"Do you want to sit in my lap?" Dino offered with a smile, "I'll hold you if you start to feel sick or something."
"I don't get motion sickness." I said simply and took a seat by the window.
"Oh well… That's good though." He grinned and took the seat beside me, "If you need anything, you should tell me."
That's when it hit me. I don't have anything. I have to stay with Dino for a week without any underwear or change of clothing or… anything! What do I do? How can I tell him that I need underwear? The only things I have on me are my wallet and Varia Ring. Man… That just sucks.
I turned my head from the window to Dino and found him sound asleep. I don't blame the guy. He just got out of the hospital… Wait… Me too! We were both hospitalized after fighting Jager so what gives this guy the right to snooze while I'm still awake?! I was debating on whether or not to hit him when I was rudely interrupted.
"Ahem." Kohane was standing in front of me with a cup of tea, "Thanks for giving our boss another chance but if you make him cry again, I'll have to hurt you."
"Oh? Are you threatening me?" I smirked at her as she handed me the cup.
"No. I'm warning you." She muttered, handing off the cup to me before turning on her heels and walking away.
I stared down at the cup she gave me. It's poisoned. I know it already. I'm not stupid. Wait till Kyoya finds out about this one. She's never going to get frisky with him in the future.
"Mnn." Dino groaned and shifted in his seat, opening his eyes slowly, "You okay, Kira?"
"Moron. I should be asking you that question." Seriously, he looks like he's the one missing a stomach.
He laughed weakly, "I don't get sick on planes. I'm just tired."
Kohane and Romario were watching me carefully from the front of the plane, probably nervous about the drink they poisoned. Making sure to lock eyes with them, I held up the cup. With a sly smirk, I glanced at Dino. They got the picture. Before I could even tell them it was a joke, they were running down the length of the plane towards us.
"BOSS!" Romario yelled, "Don't touch that!"
Morons. Dino glanced up at his subordinates and then down at the cup I was holding.
"Idiots." I put the cup to my lips and tilted back my head. Taking all of it in at once.
Kohane and Romario froze where they were, looking completely freaked out. Of course, they probably thought that I was crazy since I already knew what was in it.
My vision went black and my ears began to ring but if this is the way they wanted it, this is the way they can have it. Knowing Dino's subordinates, I highly doubt they would be stupid enough to actually give me a poison that would kill me. They were probably just trying to scare me a little but we can't have that.
"Hmm?" Dino hummed, "What's the big deal? It was just tea, right?"
"Uh… N-No… I m-!" Kohane and Romario sounded completely ashamed but this'll be our little secret.
"Yeah. It was cold though." I snorted, my vision was still dark but the ringing in my ears died down, "I'm taking a nap. If anyone touches me, I'll bite them to death."
"Here." Dino's hand went to my head and he pulled me against his shoulder, "Sleep well."
"Idiot." I muttered but I didn't reject his offer. I hate to admit it but being blind is pretty scary. I've had perfect vision all my life so I never needed glasses or anything so this was the most terrifying thing I had ever experienced.
Dino's hand was stroking my hair softly and that's all I could see in my head, "Hey."
"Hm?" I hummed, pushing myself closer to his side.
"Nine years is a long time." He said suddenly but not without reason, "I've changed a lot and so have you. I kind of got that feeling on the day that you… cut me off. I still like you as much as I did when we were in school and I want to get close to you again. Will you let me?"
I mumbled quietly, my words slipping out instinctively and without excessive thinking, "You were the one that stopped talking to me all those years ago..."
"I won't do it again. I swear on my life…. No. I swear on the most important thing in my life, the Cavallone Family, that I won't do it again." He vowed, "I would never hurt you knowingly."
"... I can't make any strange promises in return." I whispered, "I'm unsure of what kind of person I am. Compared to you, I'm not so resolved. I'm a spontaneous person and I do whatever I want, whenever I want to."
"That's what I liked about you from the start." He swore and then turned his head to put his lips to my hair, "I'll show you my resolve for the next seven days."
"Oh? I'll be waiting."
O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O
The sunlight blinded my eyes on the morning of my first day at the Cavallone estate. That's right. I was still blind by the time the plane landed and Dino had found out about the poison. It was a massive yelling and scolding session along with a lengthy and thorough apology from Dino and all of the subordinates that had been involved. The Tenth Cavallone boss then decided that he would carry me around until my eyesight returned.
I shouldn't have trusted him. I nearly had a heart attack when I opened my eyes and Dino's face was right in front of mine, his arms around me tightly.
"Haneuma!" I screamed in his face and slammed my knee into his gut, "The hell is wrong with you?!"
"Ngh!" Dino groaned, "I'm sorry! I couldn't help myself… I just… I put you down on the couch last night and they were feeding you steak and when I came back from my shower you were sleeping! So I was just going to help you to bed but you were so cute and… I'm sorry!"
Cute? Did he just say I was cute? The memory of Dino's first lesson as an English teacher came back to me. "I like girls that are cute, smile like a goddess, and have pretty eyes." Okay… At least he thinks I have one of those qualities… Even if I don't necessarily think so.
Dino's eyes softened on me, "You're beautiful."
"Stop." I scowled at him, "You don't have to lie to me…"
"No. I'm not lying. You're the most beautiful girl in the world." He chuckled and wrapped his arms around me again, "Oh. And good morning."
"You're doing things out of order." I scolded him lightly, "Good morning."
My chest feels so warm. I thought Dino and I would never get another chance to have a normal conversation with each other but here we are, talking like nothing ever happened.
"Dino." I stared up at his face, trying to memorize his current features, "I'm hungry."
"You're always hungry." He chuckled, "Breakfast is waiting. We can get up whenever you want to."
"Wao. You really are trying to show off, aren't you?" I smiled, "No need to give me any special treatment, Haneuma."
"I had clothes set up for you too. The maids can bring them to you whenever you decide you want a shower. I like giving you things you want." He grinned at me happily, "Even if you're not honest enough to tell me you want them."
My Name is Alice: LOL Well I guess I'll just have to reply with my dying will then. I don't know how many more chapters there'll be. I'm shooting for a million! Just kidding. But I didn't really plan out the story before I started so I can only guess that there will be a bunch of stuff until I find a decent ending. I wasn't actually planning on a one-shot for Xanxus but there's actually a lot of people rooting for Xanxus so I might have to reconsider that one. A sequel... well that's something I'll think about when I get there.
