Black*Star: THEY WHAT?!

Maka: They took us off of Netflix. Didn't you know?

Black*Star: NO! Nobody told me!

Liz: Come on, even Patty knows!

Patty: What do I knows?

Black*star: THEY TOOK US OFF OF NETFLIX!

Patty: Oh, I knew that!

Black*Star: GEEZ! NOBODY TELLS ME EVERYTHING!

Maka: Maybe it's because you're too busy worrying about yourself to pay any attention.

Black*star: Hmmm..

Maka: * smirks *

Black*Star: Whatever, I'm way more important anyway!

MusicMaker87: Ok guys, calm down, we've got a chapter to do!

Everyone: YEAH!

Chapter 21: Maka's Doubts and A Search for a Cat.

Normal POV_

It was now evening. Maka was in her room, calmly reading one of her many books. Soul, on the other hand, was locked in his room, listening to music.

As Maka read on, the book began to entice her. The plot grew, and the emotions rose. Maka suddenly started to think of Black*star. She though of that one night on the roof. The silence of the air, his strong arms on either side of her. She didn't feel afraid at all, instead, she felt safe. He was like her protector. He would do anything for her, just like the character in this book did for the female character.

But what did she do to deserve it?

Maka suddenly felt guilty. She hadn't talked to Black*Star in a while, ever since Scarlett Claw had been harassing them. Maka had never done anything for Black*Star. Was it how relationships were supposed to go?

In the book, the male character was always saving the female character from whatever danger came their way, but what for? To win her over?

Maka didn't want to be won. She wanted to be loved, and that was all.

She marked the page and shut her book. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Maka set the book down and went to answer the door.

It was Kid, Liz, and Patty.

"Oh, hey guys... what're you doin' here?" Maka asked, "It's pretty late."

"We're here to talk to Blair, have you seen her?" Kid asked.

"Blair? She's working right now," Maka said.

"Working?!" Kid shouted.

"Yeah... at Chupa Cabras.. why?" Maka asked.

"She's gonna tell us where to find Shirley!" Patty shouted.

"Alright..." Maka said.

"Sorry to have wasted your time," Kid apologized.

"Don't worry about it," Maka smiled.

"Goodnight," Kid said.

"Night," Maka replied, closing the door.

As she started walking back, Soul came out of his room and asked, "Who was it?"

"It was Kid," Maka answered.

"Oh, what did he want?" Soul asked.

"Just came to see if Blair was here, and I told him she was working," Maka said.

"Blair? So what, he has a thing for her?" Soul asked sarcastically.

Maka laughed, "No, he just needs to talk to her about someone names Shirley."

"Shirley?" Soul looked at her confused, but Maka only shrugged.

"Well, whatever, you want some pizza?" Soul asked.

"Sure, I'd like a break from cooking," Maka replied.

"Cool," he said.

Maka took a seat on the couch and turned on the TV while Soul called.

"It'll be here soon." Soul informed her as he sat down next to her. It suddenly got hot in the room, not to mention quiet.

Maka began flipping through the different channels, trying to look busy. She didn't know why she was acting like this around Soul, but she wanted it to stop.

Soul broke the silence, "Soo.. umm, how are things with you and Black*Star?"

An awkward question. Not helping Maka thought to herself.

"Um, we're ok." Maka replied.

"Cool." Soul said.

"How are you and Liz?" Maka asked.

"Uhh..." Soul scratched the back of his head, "It's fine. I mean we're fine."

Soul seems... jumpy... Hmmm, Maka thought to herself as she switched off the TV.

"Hey, why'd you turn it off?" Soul asked.

"There's nothing good on anyway," Maka said.

Soul nodded.

Maka started for the kitchen, but then Soul stopped her by grabbing her arm.

"Maka." he said.

Maka turned around and looked at him.

"Soul?" she asked.

He stood in front of her, still holding her arm.

"Maka, I... I don't want things to be awkward between us, ok?" Soul said, "Just because we're living together and we're dating other people doesn't mean we can't still be friends. Ok..?"

That was... so uncool, she's probably gonna Maka-chop me, Soul thought to himself.

Then Maka smiled.

Wait... that's not a Maka-chop.

"Thank you, Soul. You're the best weapon a meister could have, you know that?" Maka said.

Soul smirked, "Cool."

Suddenly the doorbell rang.

"I got it," Soul said. He paid the man and they ate the pizza. The rest of the night when well, and the awkwardness had disappeared between them.

~~~ At Chupa Cabras ~~~ Normal POV_

Kid, Patty, and Liz awkwardly walked into the bar, and then were immediately shoved out by the manager.

"Sorry, we're closed," he said.

"What? Closed!" Kid said with disbelief, "the sign says open!"

"Oh, sorry sir," the man nervously scratched his head, "I'll fix it right away."

"Hey wait-" Kid started, but the man had already went back inside, switched the sign, and went into a room.

"What was that about?" Liz asked.

"I don't know..." Kid said.

"Haha! He has a funny face!" Patty laughed, "Let's go in!"

"Wait Patty!" Liz said, but she already opened the door and skipped inside.

Kid followed casually. Liz stood outside, awkwardly looked around, and finally retreated inside.

She walked in with her head down and accidentally bumped into Kid's back. He turned around and hushed her.

"Kid this is a bad idea," Liz complained.

There was a silence, and then there was a loud, banging noise.

"YOU DO WHAT I TELL YOU TO DO!" A man's voice sounded loudly.

"The manager?" Kid asked.

Liz whimpered.

Kid's eyes narrowed, "Liz, Patty, let's go."

"Right!" they said, turning into weapons and landing in Kid's hands.

Kid ran and busted to door down with his feet.

"Hands in the air!" Kid shouted.

The so called "manager" turned around. Most of the waitresses were on the floor, bloody and bruised. There was a "HMMM! HMMM!" sound coming from the closet.

Kid looked at the man.

"You're not really the manager, are you?" Kid asked.

The man growled and his arm turned into a whip. He lashed it down at Kid, but he dodged it and fired at the man.

"He's a pre-kishin!" Kid shouted.

He landed on his feet and continued to fire, but the man dodged the bullets like a snake and darted towards Kid. He cracked his whip and it slashed open Kid's shirt, leaving a bloody, open wound on Kid's chest. He fell to the ground in pain.

"Kid!" Liz and Patty shouted.

The man gave a small chuckle.

Kid slowly pulled himself off the floor. Right when he stood up, the man whipped him in the face. Kid fell to the ground again, his lips and cheek bleeding out.

He began to get up again. When he finally stood up, he stumbled forward, clutching his chest with one hand and wiping the blood off his face with the other.

"Soul resonance," Kid said quietly.

"Kid, you might hurt yourself.." Liz worried.

"I'll be fine," Kid smirked.

The pre-kishin began to laugh.

"Soul resonance!" Kid shouted, "Death Cannon!"

Blair, who was on the ground, saw Kid in front of her and smiled. She sneakily crawled behind the man, who was about to run away, and blocked the doorway.

"Resonance stable," Liz said, "Firing in five."

"Four."

"Three."

"Two."

"One, ready to fire!"

"Don't mess with a grim reaper!" Kid shouted, firing at the pre-kishin. Blair jumped out of the way, and the man was disintegrated.

Kid walked over and grabbed the red, glowing soul. Liz and Patty already changed back into human form and stood behind him. He turned around and said, "We're gonna have to go on another mission."

Suddenly, he clutched at his chest in pain.

"Kid!" The sisters shouted. Blair came over to help.

The next thing he knew, he was waking up in the Dispensary with Nygus, Liz, Patty, and Blair.

"You're awake," Blair smiled.

Kid smiled.

"Thanks so much nya!" she hugged him.

"Be careful!" Nygus scolded her.

Blair smiled as she pulled away from him.

"Blair, I have a question to ask you," Kid started, but Liz interrupted him, "We already asked her. She said she didn't know what we were talking about."

"Haha, that's a pretty weird dream though!" Blair laughed.

"Hmm, so we're back to square one," Kid said.

"Looks like it," Liz said.

"But at least we're going to a carnival tomorrow!" Patty shouted.

"You guys are goin' to the carnival?" Blair asked.

"Yeah!" Patty said excitedly.

"Lucky.. I have to work that day," Blair pouted.

"Aww," Patty said.

"Did your manager get out? Was he ok?" Kid asked.

Blair nodded, "We're all ok."

"That's good," Kid said.

"Oo I have an idea! I'll tell Maka and Soul to go for me and get me prizes!" Blair said.

"YAY! They can come with us!" Patty laughed.

Blair and Patty looked at Kid with pleading faces.

"Alright," Kid said, "They can come with us."

"Yay!" The two girls shouted childishly.

Liz shook her head and smiled, "We might as well invite Black*Star and Tsubaki."

"Well it looks like you'll be going on the kiddie rides," Nygus said to Kid, "You better be careful with that cut of yours."

"I will," Kid nodded, "But I don't think I'll be going on any-"

"THE FERRIS WHEEL!" Patty shouted, "That's a slow, fun ride!"

A sweat dropped from Kid's forehead, "Maybe."

"Yay!"

"Well, it's late. You should get some rest, which means the three of you need to go home," Nygus said.

The three hugged Kid goodbye and left for their homes.

It was a cool and silent night. Would they finally find Shirley?
