Disclaimer: Nope, I don't own Inuyasha anddd I don't make a profit from this story.
A/N- So here's the two chapter Epilogue I had been considering. Truthfully, I thought I was pretty much done with this story, but as I was writing the epilogue I kinda got into it again x) I might do another story as like a second part to this one, that way I could bring her mom into the story :o I dunno, it would probably be after I'm done with my other story, AND I started another Sesshomaru/Rin story so I'll be working on that too. Idk I'll think bout it :) Oh, and thank you SO much everyone who left reviews :D
Sesshomaru leaned in closely as he surveyed each and every one of the objects slowly.
"Feh, I don't get what the big deal is. They're all big and shiny, so just hurry and pick one" Inuyasha said, hoping to leave as soon as possible. Kagome was also looking at the objects closely and he was growing slightly nervous. They were very expensive after all.
"Inuyasha" Kagome chided, "It has to be perfect. Can you at least pretend you understand what it's like to be romantic?"
Sesshomaru simply ignored the half demon, choosing instead to continue observing the rings. The miko was correct; it had to be perfect for his Rin.
In all honesty, he had not once thought of marrying Rin. Many humans and demons who had gotten married had soon after gotten a divorce. Mating was a more binding act, so why have a marriage ceremony when she was already bound to him for eternity?
That was what he thought, though after a few months, he had noticed how both she and Kagome had talked about weddings one day; how they talked dreamily about decorations, dresses and other things. It was after he had overheard their talk that he had decided he would propose to his mate.
Though he had already made the decision to propose to her, he had not gone looking for a ring immediately due to the never ending amount of paperwork that seemed to pop out of nowhere and onto his desk each day. It was only after a certain incident that happened only yesterday that made him decide to get a ring the next day.
Both he and Rin had been out at a mall, and he had left Rin for only a moment, telling her he would buy her a drink. When he came back, he nearly snarled at a man who was trying to talk to his Rin. Since Rin was wearing a sweater that covered his mark, the human obviously didn't know that she was indeed taken.
After nearly throwing the male halfway across the mall, he began to contemplate the perks of buying her the ring sooner. Even if she wore a sweater that covered the mark, the ring wouldn't be covered. It would show everyone that she was his and his alone.
So this morning, he had informed his father he would not be going into work today because he would be searching for a ring. Unfortunately, his father had of course told Izayoi, who had quickly told Kagome, who had dragged Inuyasha to accompany the dog demon in finding the perfect ring.
Golden eyes skimmed passed a few more rings before landing on one. The ring had a white gold band with little diamonds covering the front; the largest diamond -a princess cut diamond- was in the middle.
He continued to stare at it, picturing it on his mates' delicate finger.
Kagome walked over to Sesshomaru and took a look at the ring he was staring at. "That one is beautiful" she said. "It would look lovely on Rin"
"Indeed." was his simple answer. This was the ring he would get for her. The only problem now was figuring out how exactly he would propose to her.
Sesshomaru smirked to himself. Truly, he was a genius. Sometimes he even surprised himself with how intelligent he was.
After hours of intense Google research on how best to propose, and a long talk with both Kagome and Izayoi, he had decided to take things into his own hands. Besides, this was something he knew Rin would appreciate.
Sure, going out to a fancy restaurant and proposing to her there was an okay idea, but this had a more...romantic feel to it.
Sesshomaru placed the cook book on top of the counter; the book opened to show the recipe for the meal. He had already chosen what to make for the dinner he had planned. Chicken parmesan, some spaghetti, and a bit of white wine.
He had utmost confidence in his cooking skills. After all, she had immensely enjoyed the cake he made her.
Well...sure he had help with making the cake, but he did the most important stuff. He had made sure the the amount of icing atop the cake was just right. Not too much, not too little. Needless to say, it was perfect. Though, it was no surprise to him. He excelled in everything he set his mind to.
A look of determination was etched upon his face as he read the first set of instructions. He had already gone out and bought the ingredients, and was grateful Kagome offered to help by taking Rin out for some 'girl time'.
'Preheat the oven to four-hundred degrees Fahrenheit'
Sesshomaru stared at the word oven for a moment, remembering how he had set the oven on the day he helped make the cake.
Looking around, his eyes landed on one particular appliance. 'That...is the microwave'
He mentally patted himself on the back for remembering such important information.
Walking over to the appliance he knew was the oven, and remembering what Miroku had showed him, he pressed the buttons that would start the 'preheating' process.
"Maybe I should call him, he might get worried if I'm out too long" Rin said as she looked longingly at a pair of shoes.
"Don't worry" Kagome replied, "I told him I was taking you out"
"Okay, thank you Kagome" she said, smiling gratefully. "I just didn't want him to worry"
"I'm sure he's doing fine" Kagome said, smiling to herself.
Sesshomaru cracked an egg open, watching as the yolk poured into the bowl. There were very small pieces of the egg shell mixed in. Did that matter? The book had no information on that, and he hadn't been the one cracking open the eggs for the cake, Inuyasha had.
He mentally shrugged and began to whisk the eggs.
After a few moments, he moved over to the bowl that contained the breadcrumbs. He was supposed to add a 'pinch' of salt to it. Grabbing the small glass container of salt, he added a bit, and was surprised when the top fell off, causing the salt to come pouring out.
Sesshomaru quickly pulled the salt away and wondered if perhaps that had been too much. He checked the bowl, and decided it didn't look like a lot had fallen in. He mixed the salt and breadcrumbs together before grabbing a piece of chicken. Glancing at the cook book, he dropped the chicken into the egg yolk, then took it out and dropped it into the bowl containing the breadcrumbs.
Perhaps he should cook more often. It was turning out to be quite easy.
"I should go over and check on him, just to make sure he doesn't need any help"
"Izayoi, let him do this himself." InuTaisho said as he turned a page of the newspaper.
"I know I should, but you do know he's cooking right?" she asked. Sesshomaru had never cooked before. Even Inuyasha didn't cook, he only knew how to make ramen, and all he had to do was add it to boiling water.
InuTaisho almost laughed out loud at the image of Sesshomaru actually cooking. "Yes, but this is something he has to do himself dear."
"I suppose you're right"
He was glad she agreed with him and was not trying to discuss the matter anymore. After all, he wanted peace and quiet as he read the newspaper comics.
Sesshomaru looked inside the boiling pot that held the spaghetti. How long did it have to cook for? All the book said was 'cook the spaghetti in a boiling pot of water'. Was he supposed to already know how to make spaghetti? He had never had spaghetti before. He had always stuck to eating meat. Perhaps he could look up instructions on the internet...
No. He was Sesshomaru Takahashi. A simple pot of spaghetti was nothing. No problem at all.
He glanced at the chicken that was sizzling in the pan. He picked the pan up from atop the stove and placed the chicken onto two separate plates. Was it supposed to be black? Looking at the photo, he saw that the color of the chicken wasn't showing. It was covered in sauce.
Sesshomaru picked up the bottle of pasta sauce he had bought and poured it on top of the chicken.
Perhaps he should've been a chef...
"Ready?" Kagome asked. "I'll drop you off home"
Rin smiled. "Yeah, thank you Kagome, I had a lot of fun"
Sesshomaru placed Rin's plate on the table. As he suspected, the spaghetti proved to be no problem at all. It was slightly soft, which obviously meant it was done.
Glancing at the clock that read '6:15 p.m' he mentally made sure everything was ready.
Food? Check.
Wine? Check.
Candles? He placed the candles on the table before carefully lighting them. Check.
Ring? He patted his pockets and felt the small box. Check.
Sesshomaru dimmed the lights and smirked. Everything was perfect. Surely she would be pleased.
He turned his head toward the front door when he heard it open.
"Sesshomaru, I'm home" Rin called as she took off her shoes before walking in. "Sesshomaru?"
A gasp left her lips as she walked into the dining room. She looked at the candle lit dinner in awe before looking at Sesshomaru, who was standing by one of the chairs.
He pulled the seat out and nodded toward it, indicating he wanted her to take a seat there.
Rin slowly walked over toward the chair and sat. She was speechless at the moment. Everything looked so beautiful..
Sesshomaru walked around the table and took his seat across from her. After a few moments of silence, he spoke.
"Do you like it?"
"Yes" she said quickly, hoping she hadn't made him think she didn't like it. "It's beautiful.. Did you make this yourself?" she asked as she turned her attention to the food.
"Yes." was all he said.
Rin wanted to ask what the occasion was, but decided to ask after they ate. She really wanted to try what he made. Picking up her fork, she glanced up at Sesshomaru and noticed he was staring at her intensely, waiting for her to take a bite.
She eagerly took a bite of the chicken first, and had to stop herself from gagging at the taste. It tasted burnt, very salty, and...crunchy?
Rin kept her face blank as she once again glanced up at Sesshomaru, who seemed to be eagerly awaiting her response. She just couldn't tell him how horrible it tasted, so instead, she smiled widely and continued eating.
Throughout dinner, they talked and just enjoyed each others company. Sesshomaru was so caught up in watching Rin eat, and talking to her, that he hadn't even touched his food yet.
"Thank you Sesshomaru" Rin said after she had choked down the last bit of undercooked spaghetti. "This was so sweet"
Sesshomaru nodded before deciding now was a good moment to ask. He stood, and for some reason his legs felt slightly shaky and his stomach began doing flip-flops.
He ignored the feeling as he walked over to where she sat. He kneeled so they were eye-to-eye. His eyes softened as he reached out to cupped her cheek. Leaning forward, he gave her a gentle kiss on her lips. "Rin.."
Much to his surprise, Rin quickly stood up and ran. Wasting no time, he quickly followed her as she ran into the bathroom. He watched as she bent down and leaned over the toilet seat as she began throwing up.
Sesshomaru pulled her hair back gently and held it as she emptied out the remnants of the dinner she just ate.
After she was done, Rin stood and flushed the toilet. She turned to look at Sesshomaru and smiled weakly. "Can you give me a moment?" she asked.
He nodded and left the bathroom, closing the door behind him. Rin took a moment to wash her face and then brush her teeth before she too left the bathroom.
She walked into the dining room and saw Sesshomaru standing next to the table, a look of disgust on his face. She glanced at his plate of food and noticed that he had taken a bite of the chicken he had made.
"Why did you not tell me the food was not good?" he asked her. In his opinion, the food was horrible, but he didn't want to say it out loud. Apparently he wasn't as good a cook as he thought.
"I'm sorry" she said as she looked down. "It's just, you did all of that cooking for me. I was so happy that you did all this for me, and I didn't want to...hurt your feelings and tell you your food tasted bad." She mumbled the last part, and Sesshomaru hoped the burning on his cheeks didn't mean he was blushing.
He walked over to her and pulled her against him as he wrapped his arms around her. "You must always be honest with me Rin"
Rin smiled softly and nodded. "I will, I promise."
They stood like that for a few moments, and when Rin began pulling away, she noticed the slight bulge in his pants' pocket. "What is that?" she asked, pointing at the bulge.
Sesshomaru almost groaned. Why did she have to notice that now? He should've immediately hid it after she had thrown up. He wanted to make things romantic, and so far, it seemed he wasn't doing a very good job.
He pulled out the small velvet box and heard Rin gasp.
"I...apologize, Rin. I had wanted everything to be perfect for you"
She said nothing, only stood there, staring at him wide-eyed.
"Rin..." He didn't know what else to say. His mind had gone temporarily blank. Why was he so nervous? They were already mates. Though, perhaps he should have practiced how he would ask her. He didn't know what to do at the moment. 'Just ask' he told himself sternly. He took a deep breath and got down on one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
Silence.
Was that a good thing or a bad thing?
"Yes" she whispered, so low that he had to lean forward to hear it. "Yes, yes, yes!" she said excitedly, and watched as he slid the ring onto her finger. She then immediately hugged him tightly. She knew he didn't have to propose, since they were already mates, but after becoming his mate, the thought of actually getting married appealed to her more and more. Especially since Kagome would often talk about it. The thought of having a marriage ceremony, the dresses, everyone getting together... It all seemed so lovely.
"And Sesshomaru?" She leaned her head back and stared into his golden eyes. She lifted her hand and gently traced the stripes that adorned his cheek. "Tonight was perfect"
He immediately claimed her lips in a gentle kiss.
