Ok peeps. I realize that it has been AGES since I last updated this story and for that, I apologize. I had brain/neck surgery a while back and complications along with writer's block have prevented me from doing much of anything. This chapter can either serve as the last one or a turning point to the story. I'd love to hear what you, my readers (whoever is left out there (= ) think. I will do my very best to also work on the other stories that haven't been finished so expect updates coming up with those as well. Thank you so very much for your patience!
I noticed early on that Maura had one of these. I would constantly walk into her office and see her writing in a notebook that she would quickly put aside or away when someone came in. It didn't take much for me to figure out it was a journal; she confirmed it a little later. I asked her why she kept one at our age, thinking we were too old for that sort of thing. She just answered that it (journal writing) had been her constant companion throughout her life since she never had any friends and it was where she was able to communicate open and freely. She'd write in it as if she were writing a letter to a friend, and it made a whole lot of sense after she said that. She told me that I ought to give it a shot; that it was actually quite the way to release pent up tension or worries when I didn't feel like communicating them with anyone else… so I decided to start my own.
This journal isn't because I have pent up tensions; my nights with my lovely wife see to it that I not go to sleep tense or stressed. I thought that I could write in this and someday share it with her, as a way of communicating even more. There are things that are hard to put into words, no matter who you're speaking to. Maura and I don't seem to have difficulties with communication, and the odd chance that she's upset at me (she's usually the upset one because of some stupid thing I did) we can talk through it and work it out. I wouldn't say we have the perfect marriage because nothing in life is perfect, but I'd say we're pretty close.
Maura and I have been married for 6 months and things could not be better between us. It didn't take long after our return from the honeymoon for me to pack up my things and give the majority to either charity or Tommy, who kept my apartment. Most of my things didn't really go with Maura's style, and I didn't want to mess with that. She surprised me on our return with a room for myself; giant television and recliner already set up. She could decorate it as I pleased she said, it would be my version of a 'man cave'. Two weeks later I invited the guys and my brothers over for the game. They were in awe and quite jealous of my room decorated in Red Sox/Patriots/Bruins/Celtics memorabilia with my glass encased football with its own shrine-like space. The room was so different from the rest of the house that it was quite obvious to everyone that Maura had had nothing to do with the décor, but in the end she was pleased with the room as well since it was all 'me'.
Both of us continue to work long, hard hours. I've told her time and again that she should take it easy since she has the ability to pass down some of the workload to someone else but she says she can't really trust any of the other medical examiners to do the work as well as she does. I can't blame her; she is the perfectionist after all. She could trust Susie with the testing, but not anyone like the idiot Pike with the autopsy. I agreed with her then, but I knew sooner or later things were going to have to change.
With today being our 6 month anniversary, I plan on taking her out for a nice dinner. Do the dress up and everything, then come home and make love to her all night. I got us a reservation at her favorite restaurant and told her I would pick her up at 8. I've got everything ready, just have to make a quick stop after work to get her flower bouquet and I'll be all set. I hope the night turns out just like planned…
"Jane, this is marvelous. You didn't have to do this; spending time together at home would've been just as nice."
"Oh come on Maur, we don't come to fancy places like these often, I like to treat my woman every once in a while." Jane replied with a smile.
"You already spoil me so. I couldn't have asked for a better surprise. Still, I think I have you beat."
"You really think so? What have you got for me, doctor?"
"I have a present for you."
"Can I see it?"
"No, I didn't bring it with me. I figured you could have it once we got home."
"Aw, Maur! You're going to have me waiting until after dinner?!"
"Believe me detective, it will be worth the wait." Maura said with a wink and a smile.
"I can't wait!"
An hour later, both women made their way into the house. Just as Jane was closing the door she felt a push and felt herself get pressed against the door, with Maura pressed up against her. She felt her wife entwine their hands together and felt her lips at on her neck and quickly making their way up to her own lips. Maura kissed her firmly, letting her tongue battle for control with Jane's. She stopped as quickly as it began.
"Jane, you know that I love you with all I am, right?"
"Yes, I do. What's going on Maur? This is starting to freak me out a little."
"There's nothing to panic over, my love. I just wanted to give you a preview of what I hope awaits us tonight… but first, I want to give you the present I mentioned earlier."
"Oh, ok. You'd made me forget about that present with the kiss you just gave me. Can I have it now?"
"Of course, let me go get it."
They both made their way into the house, with Jane heading towards the living room and taking a seat. Maura came in a couple of minutes later, a small wrapped box in her hands.
"Happy anniversary my love. I hope that the contents of this box show you how much I love you and how excited I am for the next stage in our lives."
"The next stage?" Jane asked.
"Open the box."
Jane nervously and excitedly ripped off the wrapper, a solid white box now in her hands. She quickly lifted the lid and gasped the second her brain understood its contents.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, 100% positive."
"But we've been trying for so long…"
"I'm positive, Jane."
Inside the box was a plain white onesie, "I love my mommies" printed along the center.
"You're pregnant?"
"We're pregnant Jane, it finally worked!"
Jane jumped off the sofa and took Maura into her arms, jumping up and down in excitement.
"We're pregnant! Oh my God! I never thought the day would come! Maura, I love you, so much."
She took Maura's face in her hands and kissed her passionately.
"This is something definitely worth celebrating!"
Jane quickly scooped Maura up in her arms and made her way towards their bedroom, thoughts of celebration in mind.
