"How do we get past the guards?" asked Rose curiously as the Master began taking out all sorts of bizarre instruments from the box in front of him. Some of them were so large that she could swear the box was bigger on the inside.
"The guards? K-9 took them out already. What you should be asking, but evidently are not asking is how we're gonna get to the portal."
Rose rolled her eyes. The Master could be such an egoist. "Alright then. How're we gonna get to the portal then?"
"We shimmer!" he laughed and turned into an exact replica of the guard outside. The same happened to Rose shortly after when the Master put a necklace on her. "Now you just watch young lady... and learn."
K-9 opened the door for them and the trio(K-9 was put into the box) carefully strolled through the corridors, several libraries, control rooms, temporal planetariums... it made Rose's head hurt.
"We'll be at the portal soon. Hold on." whispered the Master conspiratorially.
Not only was Rose tired because she was recently under mind control, she also found the shimmer thing really uncomfortable. It was like a tightsuit all around her, causing nausea. She just hoped she wouldn't throw up. Suddenly, she heard a woman speaking nearby.
"... and then the Doctor told her that if he didn't comply, he'd throw the whole manual into a supernova! It was hilarious!"
Rose whirled around. "You two know the Doctor?"
Two ladies looked at her with very amused faces on them. "The Doctor? I think you can say so..." both burst into laughter. The Master grinded his teeth. He began to remember all too well why he didn't have companions. Stupid, inconsiderate apes that they were! Oh, if only he still had his old laser screwdriver with the aging setting. If only...
Rose continued to pester the girls. "I want to know why he turned out the way he did."
"You know, we should really move on... Flower." the Master improvised. "We have an important meeting to get to." But she would have none of it. "The meeting can wait... Servant."
Oh, she is really asking for it.
K-9(who had been listening to the conversation) recognized the signs of his Master's control functions failing and took immediate action to prevent a full overload. He shifted out of the box and appeared on the window behind the two ladies.
"I am a distraction. Please look over here. I am a distraction. Please look over here." the tin dog repeated as the Master forcibly grabbed Rose and pulled her off the ground, carrying her away from the library.
"Oi you idiot! Put me down!" yelled Rose. The two girls were completely lost and K-9 rolled right after the duo.
Now of course, everyone was looking at the strange man carrying the strange woman and the robot dog who followed them. The Master hoped that all this attention would keep the Time Lords in shock long enough for him to reach the portal. "I TOLD YOU TO STOP IT!"
"Oh SHUT UP, I'M TRYING TO SAVE US!"
"I'D BE PERFECTLY FINE IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU!" growled Rose.
The Master snarked straight back. "You'd still be weeping on Earth if it wasn't for me." he began to mimic Rose's voice. "Oh, my poor Doctor left me behind. It's not like I'm human or anything so that he would even care."
"The Doctor DOES care about me! You have no idea what we've been through!"
They were now on the higher levels of the Citadel. The view would've been quite pretty had it not been for the idiot he was trying to save. "Oh really? What's his name, rank and age?"
Rose saw right through the Master's plan and replied: "The Doctor, Doctor, 900."
But he was devious. "Wrong, wrong, probably wrong."
"Well if you're so clever, tell me!"
The Master snorted. Why would he share Gallifreyan secrets with her? "Not likely. But I can tell you one thing. If I hear one more complaint, I'll leave you hear to deal with the Time Lords. How'd you like to be a prey in the Death Zone?!"
She finally piped down and let the Master hold her.
The Master now had to use his laser screwdriver to get past all the guards and priests that were trying to stop this sacrilege. K-9 also helped with his blasters. Alarms blared in the background, but they didn't listen. They were very high on top now. There was no glass into front of the windows, so the wind blew right in. The stone room was rather cold. But their goal was here... the Portal Room. It was a very small altar with two consoles on either side of the small round gateway in the middle. It looked rather like the Untempered Schism, but was a bit more retro.
Rose and K-9 stood guard at the door, occasionally shooting anyone who dared come close as the Master tried desperately to crack the incredibly dense codes that were keeping the multidimensional gateway locked.
The legions managed to blast down the door, making it almost impossible to get in a shot for the human and the dog.
"Master, we can't hold out much longer!" yelled Rose. Blaster shots fired everywhere and the smell of ozone filled the room despite the open windows. Some of the shots hit the console, irritating the Master.
"Can you please keep them away! This is very intricate machinery!"
"We're about to die and you're worried about a piece of tech?!" screamed Rose. Were all Time Lords in love with what they built or something?"
The Master tried to concern himself with little things to keep his head off the huge problem that they were likely not gonna make it. "Since it's the piece of tech that decides which universe we end up in, yes! K-9, fire all you got! Rose, come place your hand over this panel!"
Rose ran across the room and slammed her palm on the controls, starting the search program.
The Master nervously commented: "It's not good. The machine IS trying to find your home, but it's glitching up. We don't travel to other dimensions often." Giving up all pretense, he started slamming the console, but then remembered his laser screwdriver. He wirelessly connected it to the controls and gave the scan a little push forward. The previous screwdriver had retained memory of Jackie Tyler's DNA from when he used the aging device to make her older and though the device itself was gone, the memory was still in the software of the new one.
Finally, the Portal made contact at the exact moment as K-9 burst into flames. Not minding his lost friend, the Master grabbed Rose's hand and they both ducked into the swirling colors of the five dimensions.
