Interlude 4, 5, 6
Nerima Cemetery
Three Months after the Mutant Powers Act was passed.
They stood together, two sisters arranged in a way that looked incomplete, each of them holding a bundle of lilies, staring down at the double headstone. It was a large thing, not gaudy, as one would expect from the Kuno family. In bold letters it is inscribed, 'Akane Tendo, Kodachi Kuno, rivals in life, may they find peace as sisters in death. ' Silently the two held their vigil, only when it started raining lightly did Kasumi speak, still staring off into nothing, "Are you sure this is what you want Nabiki?"
Nabiki dressed in an expensive business suit next to her simple pantsuit-wearing sister frowned, "This is the best deal we are going to get. It is more unfitting than even Genma's usual antics, but this way, you will be free."
Kasumi closed her eyes in sorrow, "What about you?"
"Dear sister, being made CEO of a branch company is just what I always wanted. This may be some sort of game, but I am being placed exactly where I will be able to do the most good, for us all." Nabiki held her normal confident expression as she spoke, but her words were hollow, the tone just right, but the life behind them gone.
Kasumi set her lilies down beside the red roses already at the headstone and Nabiki followed suit, pausing only to snatch up a pair of hidden, dessicated white roses and show them to Kasumi, her voice raw, "That little… he was here. Ranma has been here!"
Looking at the roses, Kasumi unwrapped her sister's hands that had embedded themselves on the thorns and then set the pair back into place upon the headstone. "Nabiki, it was best he never came back… at least, he did see them. They deserved that much."
Staring at her older sister in anger Nabiki pulled her hands away and shouted, "They deserved him being there! They deserve their own graves Kasumi... but no one was there to save them from the building imploding on itself! No one could even tell where one of them began and the other…" Trailing off, Nabiki finally collapsed into tears, her older sister hugging her.
The Himalayam Mountains
Ranma trekked on uncaringly. The snow, high altitude and even occasional bandit ignored. Others did not ignore him, they stayed far away from what must have been some phantom or worse, a young boy dressed in simple pants and t-shirt could not be walking along one of the most dangerous places on earth with such lack of concern.
Notes: It has been a while, but I wanted to try and get this story going again. Looking back, I realized I had only set this part of things up and never revealed just what happened at the duel between Kodachi and Akane. Also, I think this shows why Ranma would be driven into self-isolation.
I know some reviews have mentioned a sparseness of explanation in this story. I hope that is because they just skimmed past some of the inferences and details that may not have seemed important to the plot at the time. I would welcome any specific suggestions for improving the story though.
