Chapter 21 – A Great Fall

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall,

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall!

All of the king's horses and all of the king's men,

Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again!

They say the higher you go the harder you fall. Well that what was waiting for Misao Imatto when he attempted to walk into his office building the following morning. The receptionist was new and wanted him to prove his identity before he was allowed to proceed to the executive elevator. He was issued with a visitor's pass and walked to the elevator. 'I will have to get this stupid woman fired, she should have been made aware of just who pays her salary, A visitors pass for my own company' he raged. Entering the lift, he noticed the elevator operator was also new 'Just what is going on here this morning?' He wondered. "Which floor do you require sir?" the new operator asked. "CEO suite please" Misao replied. Punching in the button for the CEO suite the elevator rose. Arriving with a discrete chime the operator announced "CEO Suite mind your step please" and the doors slid open. Stepping out of the elevator Misao strode forward encountering a new reception area with yet another new face.

"Yes, may I help you Sir?" the women on the desk asked respectfully. "Yes I am the CEO Toshi Misao and I would like to know where my secretary is?" He replied. "I'm sorry Sir but you must be mistaken. The CEO is already in his office and has asked not to be disturbed as he has a lot of business to clear up today. If you would like I can make an appointment for early next week. Say Tuesday at 10am?" The women replied.

Now Misao was starting to get really steamed he began to pace back and forth in front of the desk. "I'm afraid young lady you are mistaken. I am the CEO and owner Toshi Misao. I demand to know who you are, who is masquerading as CEO and where the hell my secretary is!" He bellowed. The replacement secretary pressed a silent alarm on her desk alerting the CEO and security to a problem.

It was at this point the elevator opened and a young court processor stepped out "Imatto, Misao?" he asked looking at Misao. "It's Toshi Misao!" He snapped. The young man nodded handing him a sealed envelope. "Not anymore it would seem, you have been served!" he stated and got back in the lift as two security officers stepped out. Misao was confused 'what did he mean not anymore' he pondered staring after the young man's retreating back.

Opening the envelope and taking out the contents Misao's eyes bulged in shock as he read the termination of his marriage and rights to the Toshi dynasty. It would seem his late father in law didn't fully trust him and had left an out for his daughter to rid herself of an untenable marriage. Staring at the words in disbelief he didn't notice the secretary informing the security personnel of the problem he had been causing. One of the guards had worked for many years at Toshi Enterprises confirmed to the new staff that yes that is the former Toshi Misao and former CEO of the company. It seems he had only just been served with his finalised divorce papers which would explain why he didn't realise he wasn't in charge anymore. Nodding the new guard and secretary felt that it was probably a jolt to find out all at once you were no longer who you had thought you were and lose your job in one fell swoop. They were willing to be polite as the older gentleman appeared to be quiet upset.

The secretary remembered a box of personal items the CEO had brought out that morning for her to return to his predecessor. Lifting it up she handed it to one of the guards and asked he give it to the gentleman as he was escorted out of the building. Gently gripping Misao elbow the other guard steered the unresisting Misao to the elevator. (He was still stunned and wasn't paying attention to his surroundings) However once he arrived he began to rouse and found himself on the ground floor and his visitors badge removed. By the time he could get his mouth to work again he was handed into a taxi, given the box and told to go home and rest.

"Biltong hotel" he stated to the taxi driver and they took off. Once back at the hotel his inertia abated and his anger was increasing dramatically. "I will get that stupid bitch back for this, how dare she shame me in this manner. I was mistaken by being gentle with her. Well no more! She will learn to obey just like the others did!" He vowed. Furiously punching numbers into his phone he called his former secretary on her mobile "the number you have dialled is disconnected, please check the number and try again" an automated voice was heard. "Blast!" her fumed she must have changed her number after she was fired.

Spotting his box of personal items Misao thought his luck may have changed. 'Hopefully my planner is in there it has her home number and the numbers for my other contacts'. But sadly the shadow king had pre-empted this and the planner was not found. The box contained a picture of his late parents, his two sisters, one brother and their families. His keys to his Tokyo apartment and his bottle of Viagra. Spotting the keys, he decided to check out and go to his apartment. Ringing to ensure the servants were ready for him. His housekeeper stated that all would be in readiness by the time he arrived and he hung up. Checking out of reception he suddenly realised he didn't know how much money her personally had. He had relied on the Toshi bank accounts for nearly 41 years and now he was back to relying on himself.

Kyoya entered his apartment at 8pm. It had been an exceedingly long day securing the building against Misao. The new staff were totally loyal to him and Toshi San. The old executive secretary had been relocated to another department at her request. She had felt that if she stayed in her current role that Imatto San would try to coerce her into giving him access to documents or information as he had threatened her in the past. She requested permission to take some time off to relocate her family and change her children's schools. Toshi San was gracious and had made arrangements to assist the secretary who had put up with much at the hands of her former husband. She was now a personal assistant to the development division executive and would be starting in a week. She had also requested that her former boss be given the impression that she had been fired to protect her family. They had agreed with all of this as she had supplied a gold mine of information that Misao Imatto would not like to have known. Such as the new locations of his mistresses for example.

Placing his briefcase down on the desk in his study he noted a message from his father that he would like to meet him as soon as possible to arrange an omiai with a business associates daughter. 'Hmmn it would seem father doesn't yet know that I am working for Toshi Enterprises and am bound by contract not to participate in an arranged marriage. With the contract that Haruhi drew up its airtight, watertight and pretty much indestructible.' He chuckled amused. He sent a message to his father stating that for at least the next month his new job wouldn't allow for any significant leisure time. He gave several dates the following month that he would be available. Emailing this to his father he picked up the phone and called Haruhi.

"Moshi, Moshi" Haruhi stated answering her cell phone. "Haruhi, I was wondering if you would have time next month to attend an omiai that my father has arranged with a business associate of his. I feel that I am going to need legal representation as it's my father's practise to present me with a fait accompli." Kyoya stated ever getting to the point of the call quickly. Giggling softly Haruhi replied "Your father is in for a bit of a shock. Recent changes to the law forbid parents entering of age children into arranged marriages without obtaining their written permission beforehand. That and the contract I drew up for Grandmother won't permit you to be arranged. I will fight for your rights Kyoya. You have and still are fighting for me. You have truly been a stalwart friend to me since my father's attack, from the day I broke that blasted vase really, and I can never repay you for your kindness. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone you are really sweet and cuddly." "Intriguing notion you have there Haruhi, I will let you know when and where. It has been a long night so I will have to go now." he replied. Disconnecting the call Kyoya smiled. It was nice having someone stand up for him he decided.
