Korra's POV
When I got back to my apartment, I was, well, shellshocked. Republic City wasn't supposed to get bombed, it wasn't supposed to get bombed at the City Consul building, and it certainly shouldn't have gotten bombed by some crimanl, no matter how powerful. This made me feel unsafe, lied to.
I knew others felt the same. Over the past few weeks, there were riots everywhere. The police force, including Mako had their hands full dealing with the different riots and many more crimes throughout the city. We barely had time to pratice, though we managed to win the semi-finals last night.
I should have felt happy about this, but winning the match was too easy. It was almost if someone wanted us to win.
Tenzin told the world a few days after the bombing I was the Avatar. Suddenly, people I never seen before came up to me and shook my hand, wishing me luck. Others, though, were not as excepting. When I walked down the street, they through things at me calling me a failer, a coward.
Taking a deep breath, I slid me gloves onto my hands and pulled a hat over my head covering my face. I learned it was easier to travel the streets like this. Nobody reconized me and I could get through the streets without being noticed.
Opening the door, I slipped out and into the cold wind. Pulling my jacket tighter around me, I walked briskly, trying to get to were I was going without being stopped.
After Tenzin accounced I was the Avatar and after I gave a speach at the police headquarters, I got a letter. They told me they could help me, they could make sure Amon couldn't get to me. I would have just ignored it and asked Mako and Bolin, but Mako was acting strange, he seemed to be asking to many question about things he before never cared about. After I while, I just stared to aviod him.
I got to the place were the letter was supposably sent. Checking the address one more time, I pushed open the door and walked in.
Inside, it smelled strongly of cigar smoke. Struggling not to cough I walked further into the build, search for someone anyone. When I got to the first door, I looked inside.
"Korra, Korra, please come in," said a man smoking a cigar. He had grey hair, a scar running up his face, and a nasty grin. I reconized him as Lighting Bolt Zolt, leader of the Triple Threat Triads.
He turned to face the two men guarding him and said, "I knew she would come. I knew she was tired of hiding, and I was right, wasn't I?" One of the men gave a quick nod and the man smile more.
"Korra, I see you got my letter. Are you worndering why I sent it to you? I think you are," Lighting Bolt Zolt said, almost like he was taunting me, though I didn't know why.
"Yeah, I am, that's why I'm here," I replied.
"Yes, well, I think that I have I deal that we both will like," Lighting Bolt Zolt said, flicking off the ashes of his cigar. I was worried what his deal might be. The Triad weren't famous for their fair deals. They always helped the gang members while leaving the other person with nothing.
"What do you want me to do?" I questioned. He exhaled smoke towards me direction and again, I tried not to cough.
"Well, it's quite simple. We know about your police friend and we would like to know something about his work. In exchange, I could tell you what Amon's plans are. A secret for a secret. Sounds fair, right?" he asked. No, it didn't sound fair, in fact it sound like a lie. How could he know Amon's plans.
As if readimg my mind, Lighting Bolt Zolt sat up in his chair and smirked.
"Oh, honey-" he started.
"Don't call me honey, I'm not anyone's 'honey'," I said, gritting my teeth.
He smiled, "Fine then. Now, I have men posted everywhere in the city even in Amon's tight little circle. I kow most everything that goes on in the city, but of course, in the police force. That's where you come in sweetheart." I clenched my fists at that but didn't say anything. "You can tell me what they're up to, and if I feel it's good enough, I will trade it with something I know. Now, I will say this again, do we have a deal?"
"Yeah, I guess that we do," I said.
"Good," he said and smiled at me. "Very good. If you do a good job, I can say the rewards will be unimaingable."
"Thank you," I said and bowed to him.
As I was leaving I heard Light Bolt Zolt whisper to one of his me, "I thought it would be easier. She was said to be more stubbern."
"Yeah, l heard that too." The man replied.
Little did they know was that I had a plan.
After pratice, I walked up to Mako.
"So what's up with you? Why are you acting so weird?" I asked. He just signed and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"Look, it complicated and I can't tell you, but at some point you'll get," he said. I was sick and tired of him being like this. Suddenly, something snapped.
"I am sick and tired of everyone lying to me and keep stuff from me. I'm mean, really, is so hard to tell me what's happening every once and a while?" I shouted at him.
"Look, Korra, I'm sorry, but-," I stopped him there.
"There's always a but. But Korra this, but Korra that, I'm not a kid, you can tell me things," I shouted. "I'm not a kid," I said again, quiter now.
Mako walked over and put his hands on my shoulder, making me look onto his eyes. He opened his mouth and I cringed, thinking he was going to yell at me.
"Look Korra, I'm sorry, but there's just somethings I need to keep myself to keep Bolin safe. There are somethings I can't share, and this is one of them. I hope you understand."
I signed and he backed up, taking his hands off my shouler. I almost shouted at him to put them back on. The touch was comforting, familaar, and I wasn't ready to let it got.
Suddenly, Mako kissed me. It was quick, I barely felt it at all, but it stuck my feet to the floor. I wanted to shout, What was that? What about Bolin and Asami? But before I got the chance, he left.
I stood there for a few seconds before Bolin came in to the locker room.
"Hey Korra, did you see Mako anywhere? I need to talk to him," said Bolin.
"You and me both," I muttered.
"What?" asked Bolin. I shooked my head.
"Nothing, just never mind. What do you need to talk to him about?"
"He mentioned something last night that I need to ask him about, " Bolin said.
"Hey Bolin, I'm sorry but I go to go, see you tomorrow," I said, suddenly getting an idea.
"Okay, see you, I guess," Bolin said, slightly confused.
I turned and ran out to the streets. I needed to talk to Lighting Bolt Zolt.
Stopping at the door, I stood there for a minute, trying to calm down, after the kiss with Mako, no matter how short it was, had my neveres on end. I pushed open the door and walked in side and into the door where I first found Lighting Bolt Zolt and his two thugs.
"Hey I have news," I said.
"Really, I didn't know that you would be that fast. Well a deals a deal, I guess." He said. I noticed he started a new cigar and was already half way through it. I wondered how much it cost for him to get those or if he even payed for them.
"First, you must tell me your piece Korra," he said.
"Fine, the police found your headquarters and are coming here tonight, one of your men betrayed you. I just saved you from jail, I think that deserves a reward," I said, smirking.
He signed and took a smoke out of his cigar.
"Amon is planning on attacking the Pro-bending arena tommorow at the finallys," Zolt said.
"Wait, why," I asked.
"Sorry, sweerheart one secret at a time. Find me something more and maybe I will tell you, or maybe I won't, but just remember, I like things with a lot of value," said Zolt.
Somehow, I mangued to leave there more frustrated than when I came in. None of that mattered though, because I found out Amon's plan and I was planning on stopping him.
