Chapter Twenty One: The Hardest
"Miss Banks….how old are you?"
"17."
"You're only 17, and it seems as though you have the mindset of someone in their twenties…tell me, why are you here?"
"I was forced to come here."
Dr. Emilie Marin looked up at the 17 year old girl sitting across from her on the couch in her office. She wrote in her pad for a couple of seconds before looking at the girl again.
"From what you have told me already, you are the youngest of three kids. So I sense a very high possibly that you were spoiled when you were younger." Dr. Marin said.
"No. I was treated the same way my brother and sister were. My parents didn't love anyone of us more than the other." The girl said.
"And how old are your brother and sister?"
"Kimberleigh is 19…..Mitchell is 23."
"So they're not too far from you…now during our last session, I asked you why you were here, and what did you say?"
"I got into a fight at school…and I broke someone's nose." The girl answered.
"And why did you get into that fight?" Dr. Marin said.
"She said something about my mother…" The girl sighed and looked away.
"Your father told me that your mother passed away 4 months ago from Leukemia." said, and the girl nodded slowly. "You want to know what I also sense from you, Tiana?"
"What."
"You're in a lot of pain…just from your body language, and how you tensed up when I asked you about why you got in that fight. You miss your mother, don't you?"
"I mean I do but…s-she's in a better place…" She felt her heart sinking, and the pain she tried so hard to suppress was beginning to come back.
"It's okay to cry—" Dr. Marin started.
"I cried enough." The girl said, cutting her off. "I cried enough. I cried so much that I couldn't cry anymore…I'm tired of crying. I'm just trying to move on."
"In order to move on, you mustn't suppress your feelings anymore. This is your mother you're talking about, not just some stranger. She was very active in your life, so it is completely normal for you to cry everyone once in a while."
She couldn't hold it in anymore, and tears began running down her face. Dr. Marin reached over and grabbed a box of tissues, handing it to her.
"Her death has made you very angry, and I'm going to work on making you release that anger you have in a positive way. Tiana, are you willing to work with me to make you back into the happy girl your father once described you as?"
The girl wiped her face with the tissue and nodded slowly, "Yes. I am."
The next week came, and it was show time once again. As the six of them rode in a security equipment truck disguised as a bread delivery truck, they had discussed strategies, and the ultimate game plan. Lamar would take out whoever was on the 21st floor, Michael would do the 22nd, Trevor would do the 23rd, Franklin would do the 24th floor, and lastly Jupiter would get to the 25th floor. Before she could even think about getting the codes, she had to make sure she had taken out whoever was guarding the room.
Jupiter still didn't feel nervous; and it was a weird type of excitement she had. While everyone else (excluding Franklin) was talking, she caught a glimpse at Franklin, who was next to her shifting nervously. Without saying a word, she placed her hand inside of his and squeezed it. He looked at her and she gave him a warm smile; it was like she was telepathically telling him calm down, everything's gonna be fine.
Lester drove into the basement parking of the Penrish Security building, and it was basically empty. He parked in a spot not too far from the elevator leading up to the building, and turned the truck off.
"Alright guys, this is it." He started. "Remember what to do, and how dangerous this is. Anybody wanna back out of this now?"
It was silent for a couple of seconds, and Lester smiled again.
"That's what I like to hear. If anybody's feeling like we can't pull this off….you might be right. We might fail miserably." He said. Franklin felt his heart stop for a second, until Lester laughed again. "I'm just kidding…maybe. Don't worry. The only person who hasn't done this before is J, and she looks like she's ready to go."
Jupiter nodded and said, "I am. Now shut the fuck up and let's do this."
Michael laughed loudly and reached down, picking up his shotgun. Trevor and Lamar picked up their AK-47's and Franklin took his P90 sub-machine gun. They all grabbed extra ammunition, and put on their bullet-proof vests before Michael opened the back door of the truck. Everyone got out one by one, until Jupiter and Lester were the only ones in the truck.
"Jupiter, I know you feel like you can do this but…just be careful. Especially for Franklin." Lester started. "Who knows how he would react if you ended up hurt or worse."
"Okay." Jupiter said quietly, grabbing her two pistols and turning to leave out of the truck. "I got this, Lester. No worries."
Michael, Trevor and Lamar had all successfully gotten to their assigned floors and took out everyone that was guarding them. Now all they had to do was wait it out, until Jupiter either said she successfully retrieved the codes, or was in big trouble. Franklin and Jupiter made their way to the 24th floor and opened the door to the first room they came up to. Franklin poked his head in to see if anyone was in there.
"Empty…let's go to the next room." He told her, and she nodded in return.
They had tried the next room, which was empty as well. The last room on that floor had a light illuminating from under the door. Franklin placed his finger on his lips and looked at Jupiter.
"Stay here." He told her.
"No, I'm going in with you." She answered back.
"Jupiter, I got this." He said, smirking. "Stay out here and keep a look out for anybody else."
Jupiter rolled her eyes and nodded, "Fine." She groaned lowly.
Franklin opened the door slowly and slipped into the room. Jupiter quickly put her ear on the door so she could get a good listen on what was going to happen.
"I'm telling you, she did every—hey, who the hell are you?!" A voice said.
"He doesn't work here! He's an intruder!"
"Get him!"
The sounds of glass breaking, someone being punched, something being slammed into the wall repeatedly, and men groaning filled the room for the next couple of seconds, until everything fell silent. Seconds after, the door opened again and Franklin stood there, clenching and unclenching his fists.
"See? Told you I had it." He chuckled.
Jupiter started laughing and looked down on the ground at the three men who Franklin had knocked unconscious, grimacing for a second.
"Oh, that looks painful." She said, squinting.
"They're not dead…yet." Franklin said, patting his sub-machine gun he kept in his holster. "Okay baby, now it's your turn."
"Yeah…okay." Jupiter said, taking a deep breath. "Where's the vent?"
Franklin pointed to the vent above him and said, "Up there. Come on, I gotta give you a boost up."
Jupiter walked over to him and gave him a kiss. When she tried to break away, he grabbed her waist and kissed her again, and she began laughing in between each kiss.
"You're kissing me like you're never gonna see me again." She said. When she saw the face he was making, she sighed again. "Franklin, I'll be fine...have some type of faith in me."
"I do, I do. Now come on." He said, holding his hands out.
She placed her arm around his neck and he picked her up effortlessly. She felt for the vent and pushed it open, pushing the cover of it to the side once it was open. Using her arm strength, she pushed herself up inside of it until her whole body was inside of the vent.
"You're in?" He asked her.
"Yeah." She poked her head back out of it and looked at him. "Okay…here I go. Wish me luck baby."
"You don't need luck." He said, waving her off. "You got this. Just be careful, okay?"
Jupiter was surprised, because it was the first time he had actually said something positive about her being a part of the heist since she said she wanted to do it in the first place. She didn't know if Franklin was saying that just to be saying it, or if he really meant it. It didn't matter to her, because it felt genuine anyway. She smiled sweetly and blew him a kiss, putting her head and arms back into the ceiling vent.
"Thanks baby." She called out as she began crawling away. "I'll be back soon."
Remembering the directions Lester gave her, Jupiter began crawling towards her destination. She had to follow the vent from the 24th floor she was on, up the 25th floor. It was freezing up there, mostly because those vents was where the air was going through to cool up the whole building. When she felt the first breeze, she immediately regretted wearing her cute but thin black one piece outfit. Ugh, the first time I want to look all cute and spy-like, I have to be cold as well, she thought bitterly as she continued to crawl. It took about 15 minutes for her to make it to the 25th floor, where she was able to see the cover of a vent that was on that floor. After looking through it, she realized that it looked like it was the vent in a dark hallway.
"Looks like the hallway is empty…" She said, shivering. Jupiter shifted her body and began kicking the cover, until it finally fell through.
It made a pretty loud noise when it touched the ground in the hallway, and Jupiter prayed no one heard it nearby. She slipped through the hole in the ceiling, and landed on her feet, looking around immediately. Good, no one is still around, she sighed with relief, but her relief was cut short when she heard voices coming closer.
Shit, she thought as she quickly hid in the dark part of the hallway. Two men walked by her, but went their separate ways as they got to the end of the hallway. One of them went right, while the other one stood not too far away from her. When she knew the other one was gone, Jupiter crept up to the one that was a couple of feet away from her and grabbed his neck from behind, pulling him down to the ground. She continued to choke him silently as he struggled for air, and tried to call for help. Finally, after struggling for a couple of more seconds, and the man stopped moving completely, and his body fell limp. Jupiter pushed his heavy corpse off of her and stood up, immediately feeling the urge to vomit. She ran over to the side of the hallway and placed her hands on the wall, breathing heavily.
I just killed someone…..what the fuck….what the fuck! She freaked out for a few more seconds, before telling herself to calm down. Once her breathing slowed down, she began walking towards the only room on that floor. The room where the security codes were held, and where she would see who she had to kill to get to them.
There were two doors that lead to that room, one in the front of the room, and one in the back. She walked to the back door and opened it slowly, noticing that the room was pretty much dark. The only little light came from a little computer on the other side of the room. Once she was inside, she shut the door slowly and looked around for a couple of seconds. It looks empty….nobody's really in here? She walked to the front of the room and saw that it was nothing over there as well. They must've been joking when they said the last person is the most dangerous. There isn't even anybody in here!
Her thoughts were stopped when she heard the back door opening. Jupiter slid across the floor into the dark side of the room, and tried her best to keep quiet. Footsteps were heard around her, until she saw a pair of heels on the ground no too far from her. The heels stopped moving and turned around, and Jupiter held her breath in anxiousness.
"I know you're in here….whoever you are." A female's voice said in a playful manner. "You can come out, I won't bite… I don't know why everyone thinks I bite."
Jupiter breathed out, just as her heart began racing faster. She knows I'm here…no use hiding now. She stood up slowly and walked away from the dark area of the big room, revealing herself. Jupiter knew she hadn't heard things, there really was another woman in the room. She looked a little older than her, and was dressed in all black as well. When the woman finally saw her, she smiled.
"I don't believe this." The woman said. "Out of all the years I've been guarding this place, I've never seen a woman come and try to take these codes. It's nice to know they criminal career isn't as sexist as I thought."
Jupiter was silent, still trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Here she was, thinking she would have to fight off a man that was ten times bigger than her. Instead, she was face to face with a woman. It should've made her feel a little bit better, and it did. But only for a second. Her boxing instructors' voice rang in her head as soon as she thought it.
Just because they're the same size, doesn't mean they have the same strength. Don't underestimate your opponent, Jupiter.
"What's your name?" The woman asked. At this time, she was walking around Jupiter, playfully brushing up against her.
"Why do you want to know?" Jupiter answered.
"Because it's always nice to know a little something about the person I'm about to kill next." The woman said, breathing in Jupiter's ear. She brushed her hand down Jupiter's arm, and against her chest, causing her to tense up a little bit. "My name's Lola."
"Well Lola, are you always this close with the people you're going to kill." Jupiter said, looking right at her.
"What can I say, I'm a free spirit. Man…woman…it doesn't matter to me." Lola said, grabbing Jupiter's waist. "And I like what I see already. It's a pity I'm gonna have to end your life, you're gorgeous."
"Thanks for the compliment, but I don't think my life is going to be the one ending today." Jupiter said, pushing her away.
"Aw, you think so? We'll see about that." Lola laughed coldly. "I want to fight you, gorgeous girl. Not as badly as I want to do you, but fighting and killing you will be just as satisfying."
Jupiter shrugged and reached for her guns, when Lola put her finger up in the air, shaking it.
"Tsk tsk, reaching for weapons already?" Lola asked. "If I wanted to shoot you, I would've been did it. I want to fight you, without the weapons. Unless you want to count your hands as a weapons…that's if you even know how to fight with your hands."
With my hands? Jupiter thought as she smirked as she shook her head. Even better.
"Fine by me." Jupiter answered, sporting a wicked smile of her own.
"We drop our guns, together." Lola said.
Jupiter reached for both of her guns, but decided to leave one, just in case. I'll let her think I just have one gun, she thought as she and Lola both dropped their guns to the ground, kicking them to the side. Lola put her hands up, and Jupiter did the same, in an on guard position.
"You ready?" Lola asked, licking her lips.
"Are you?" Jupiter asked.
Lola answered by immediately swinging at Jupiter twice, who ducked and dodged easily. Lola swung again and Jupiter blocked it, throwing a hard hook right back. The hook connected to Lola's face nicely, and caused her to stumble back. She charged at Jupiter and swung again, which was dodged again in return. While Jupiter was busy dodging Lola's punch, Lola quickly gave her a strong kick, causing her to land on her stomach hard.
"Dammit." Jupiter groaned, as she felt Lola pick her up by her hair.
"So you do have some fight in you, pretty girl." Lola purred in her ear. "That turns me on even more." She said, grabbing Jupiter's butt and giving it a light squeeze.
"Get off of me!" Jupiter sneered, elbowing Lola in the stomach as hard as she could. Lola let go of her hair and she was able to turn around, punching her in the face two more times. The third punch caused Lola to fall to the ground herself, and she didn't move for a couple of seconds. Jupiter wiped the blood forming from her bottom lip. Before she could get a couple of breaths of relief out, Lola grabbed the pipe that laid on the ground not too far away from her and swung it, hitting Jupiter's leg.
Jupiter shouted in pain and went down on her knees, and Lola swung the pipe again, hitting Jupiter across the face. Her entire right side of her face felt like it was stinging, and Jupiter was pretty sure a bone was broken somewhere. She coughed and spit out blood before standing back up slowly and looking at Lola, who was chuckling and swinging the pipe in her hands.
"I thought you said no weapons." Jupiter breathed out. "Turns out you can't fight me with just your hands."
"Oh, yes I could. This just makes it much more fun." Lola said, and swung the pipe before Jupiter had a chance to react.
It hit her in the stomach, but she was able to dodge the second swing. Jupiter grabbed the pipe with both hands and pushed it back and towards Lola. Jupiter slammed her into the wall, attempting to choke her with the pipe. Lola was able to keep the pipe away from her neck, and both girls were literally inches away from each other's faces.
"I love aggressive girls." Lola teased, smiling evilly.
"Oh yeah?" Jupiter said, before kneeing her in the stomach. Lola took her hands off of the pipe and Jupiter cocked it back, hitting her across the face and causing her to fall to the ground again. "You're gonna love me, definitely."
She threw the pipe to the other side of the room and got on top of Lola, punching her in the face and stomach repeatedly. Lola somehow managed to rake her thumbs in Jupiter's eyes, causing her to shield them out of instinct. She then grabbed Jupiter's hair again and pulled her down towards her, before moaning and biting her neck.
"Ah! WHAT THE FUCK?!" Jupiter screamed before punching Lola in the face again. She rolled off of her and immediately felt her neck to see if it was bleeding. Luckily it wasn't. It was just red and swollen pretty bad. This bitch is crazy!, Jupiter thought angrily as she panted heavily.
Lola stood up and wiped her mouth, licking her lips again. "You smell good…and you taste like you bathe in sugar."
"Something is seriously wrong with you…" Jupiter said, her voice shaking. "I'm ending this, now!"
"Ah! WHAT THE FUCK?!
Franklin had just finished ending off a couple of guards who had found their way up to his floor, when he heard someone yelling from the floor above her.
"J!" He quickly yelled, immediately realizing whose voice it was.
He opened the door and made it out of the room, making his way towards the staircase. There, two more guards were running down towards him, and he shot them quickly. Their lifeless bodies slid down the steps as Franklin jumped over them, continuing his way up the stairs. He pushed through the door on the 25th floor and ran into the first room, searching for her, but it was empty. The only other room left on that floor was not too far away from him, and he heard the sounds of glass breaking and women screaming coming from it. He began running towards the door when he heard three gunshots and immediately stopped. Everything went silent, and he felt his heart beating so hard, it felt like it was going to burst from his chest.
Please….oh please God don't let it be what I think it is…he thought as he kicked open the door.
Franklin saw two women on the floor not moving, and his heart stopped. One of them he didn't recognize, but the other one…he knew it was Jupiter. She was laying on her back, with one of her guns in her hand, her head turned the other way. Before he had a chance to cry out, he saw her hand twitching, and she began coughing violently.
"Jupiter!" He ran over to her and helped her sit up straight.
"F….did I get her?" Jupiter breathed out.
Franklin looked over at the other woman's bloody and lifeless body and smirked.
"Yeah baby… you got her." He said.
He helped her stand up again and she popped her arm back into place before kicking Lola's body.
"Fucking bitch." She muttered, and they walked towards the computer.
It took about 5 minutes for the codes to transfer from the computer, to the USB drive Jupiter had in one of the pockets of her holster. After the transfer was complete, Franklin took out his phone and dialed Lester's number.
"You guys are taking mighty long, I thought you were dead." Lester said when he answered. "Everything good?"
"Yeah she got it. Tell everyone else to head back to the truck." Franklin said.
"Excellent news. The Saint Germaine's are gonna be happy to hear this. Hurry up and get back." Lester said before hanging up.
Franklin hung up the phone and placed it back in his pocket, before looking at Jupiter again. She was rubbing the side of her face and he grabbed it, giving her a heated kiss.
"What was that for?" She asked, blushing red.
"I'm just proud of you…that's all." He kissed her again before grabbing her hand. "You ready to go?"
Jupiter gave a toothy smile and nodded, "Yeah, let's get out of here."
