Chapter 21

Akane's POV

"Grumpyfish."

"Go away Akane."

"Gruuuummmppyyyfish..."

"I'm warning you..."

"STOP BEING A GRUMPYFISH!"

"NO! NOT NOW, NOT EVER NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!"

"But whhhyyyy are you a grumpyfish?"

"For fun, now go away and let me sulk in peace." I tipped my head to the side as Akira buried her head in her pillow again. I snuck up and poked her side.

"You didn't answer my question." Akira jumped up with murder in her eyes and chased me out of the house, only giving me a second to grab my shoes, coat and bag. I ran out of the house and glared as she slammed the door,

"This is no way to treat your twin on New Year 's Eve!"

I humphed and snatched my phone out of my pocket. What to do, what to do. I wandered aimlessly down the snowy streets with my face buried in my scarf. I could always go to Hikaru's place for New Years. But that would suck because I wouldn't have my twin! And I feel like they're the only people I've hung out with this entire year. I snapped out of my thoughts as I tripped on a curb and face planted in the snow.

"Argh!" I mumbled into the snow, leaping up and quickly brushing the cold substance off my warm face. I sniffed and sneezed as I wandered around trying to find a warm café.

Akira's POV

I sobbed into my pillow, I didn't tell even Akane why I was upset, I had been ignoring Kaoru's calls. I drank the rest of my egg nog and sniffed. Finally deciding to go try to find Akane, I felt really bad about kicking her out.

I stood and put on my scarf and jacket and touque, my mittens and prepared for the snow. I went outside and locked the door, it was seriously a blizzard, and I felt increasingly worse about putting Akane into this. I went down the steps and to the left, I'd try the Hitachiins first.

*Le time skip, a half hour?*

It doesn't normally take this long to get to Kaoru's... I thought, looking around for a land mark, but realizing there were none. My terror only grew as I realized that I was in the middle of nowhere, I had no idea where I could be. Lost on New Year's Eve.

Hikaru's POV

"What?! Jeez Akane, Okay I'm coming to find you." I cut off her reply by hanging up and turning to my brother, sitting by the fireplace religiously checking his phone.

"Expecting something?" I chuckled while I put my boots on,

"Um, yeah Akira hasn't returned my calls." He muttered, checking again,

"Well speaking of Akira, I have her twin to find." I wrapped my scarf around my neck and braced myself for the cold,

"What? Akane?" Kaoru asked me, pulling his eyes off the phone,

"Yeah Akira was upset and kicked her out, she's lost so I'm going to find her." I smiled and opened the door,

"Good luck." Kaoru wished me as I closed the door behind me, shoving my hands in my pockets and hunched over.

"Where are you..." I mumbled as I made my way across the white landscape.

Kaoru's POV

Hikaru had only just left when my phone rang, my caller ID said it was from Akira. Without a second thought I answered.

"Hello?!" I said excitedly,

"Kaoru?" I heard a voice sob,

"IfeltbadforkickingAkaneoutsoiwentouttolookforherandnowi'mcompletelylostandimscaredandcoldandIDONTKNOWWHATTODO!" She rambled from the other end of the line,

"Woah woah, calm down, I'm coming to find you, watch for Hikaru okay? He's trying to find Akane as well." I smiled.

"I'm hanging up now, stay where you are okay? I love you, hang in there." I finished and pressed the end button, bundling up for the cold.

*le 'nother time skip*

Damn it's cold. Ever since I stepped outside the snow has only come down harder and harder, but I kept looking. Nearly an hour had passed and there were only fifteen minutes till 2014. I began searching with renewed energy,

"Akane?!" I yelled through the falling snow,

"Kaoru!" a voice called back and I ran towards the silouhette. We reached each other and hugged,

"I was so worried! As soon as I realized I was lost I freaked out!"

"Dont worry, Hikaru and Akira were looking for you too, so now we just have to find them." I mentally face palmed as this only increased her look of worry,

"My darling sister is out in this?! And Hikaru?!" She started panting,

"Calm down! Freaking out is seriously not good in the weather." I tried to calm her down patting her shoulders, she nodded and hugged herself, shivering.

"We better keep moving, at least now there's two of us." We smiled at each other as we kept moving, trying to find the others.

Hikaru's POV

" Shit..." I muttered as I braced against another blast of icy wind.

"Where are you?" I muttered as I lifted my head and scanned the horizon, no sign of her. I shivered and pulled my scarf up to cover the lower half of my face. I huddled down as more wind and snow swept over me, sticking to my face and eyelashes. I looked around again, a dark figure approached my from the distance, no, two figures, I couldn't recognize them but anybody would be better than this.

"Hey!" I started to yell, waving my arms and trying to catch their attention. Unfortunately, the wind was too loud for them to hear. I ran through the snow, trying to catch up before I lost them,

"Hey!" I yelled as loud as I could, getting close enough to see who they were,

"Oh my god, Karou!" I ran harder and faster, and glomped my twin.

"Kaoru I can't find her!" I started, prepared for an epic ramble, when I saw Akane staring at me,

"Hikaru!" she said, running forward to hug me, but I pulled her face towards mine and kissed her passionately. I finally pulled away and stared at her blushing face,

"I'm sorry..." I mumbled, a blush rising to my own face.

"Don't you ever apologize for something like that again." Akane muttered angrily, before wrapping her arms around me and kissing me back.

Akira's POV

I finally stopped crying, the tears sending freezing pain through my face, and as I wiped them away, my face stung. I hadn't found anything recognizable, since I called Kaoru, I tried to stay In the same place, but the snow would push me this way and that. And soon enough I wandered again. I missed Kaoru, I missed Akane, I missed Hikaru, and this is exactly why I don't do things like this. My over active imagination was taking advantage of me, putting death scenarios in my head. I wandered aimlessly for awhile, trying to find something I could take cover in for a while.

The cold wore me down, tired me out. Soon enough my legs felt heavy as lead as I pulled them along through the snow. I needed to stop, to sit just for a moment, to warm up. But I couldn't do that, could I?

My knees finally gave out, as I collapsed I huddled in on myself, trying to keep warm. But finally giving in to the cold.

Kaoru's POV

I pulled out my phone and checked the time,

"Come on..." I muttered,

"What?" Akane asked,

"Midnight... Well, Happy New Year." I put my phone away and huddled up again.

"Happy New Year.." Akane and Hikaru whispered solemnly. We all stood there a moment, sad at our failure to find Akira.

"Hey," Hikaru broke the silence.

"The snow's letting up." We all turned our heads to look at the sky, it was true, the snow was finally ceasing to fall. The last few snowflakes landed on us and we looked around. The landscape was now clear and it was obvious where we were.

"Are you fricken kidding me." Akane snapped,

"We were in the park the whole fucking time?" We all groaned as we realized she was right,

"Well now that we can see, let's go find Akira." I said, and began searching anew.

"Oh my god, AKIRA!" I yelled as I saw a small form lying in the snow. At closer inspection, I found that it was Akira. She was on her side, facing away from me, curled up into a little ball. I flipped her over and screamed at our siblings,

"GET OVER HERE AND CALL 911!" I yelled, looking again at her pale face and blue lips,

"I think she has hypothermia
