Chapter Twenty: The One With the Bid

Present Day - 2025

"So we're going to make another jump in time." Fitz stated.

"Please tell me this story won't be so upsetting." Karen requested quietly.

"It won't sweetie." Olivia rose and pulled her daughter into a hug. "This is a good story. Crazy, but good nonetheless."

"Crazy, meaning it has to do with my mom?" Sammy piped up.

"Nice one, kid." Jake nodded with an approving grin.

"How did I wind up with such mean boys?" Abby moaned.

Fitz chuckled, "Yes, this is the story of your parents' wedding."

January 2007

Abby threw her purse on the kitchen counter of the Governor's Mansion and pulled Jake in behind her, ignoring the rattling of the glass as the door banged shut behind them. "Everyone in the living room. Now!" She screamed.

"Jesus, Abs, we just go Jer down for a nap. Fucking be quiet." Olivia snapped as she shut a door at the top of the stairs.

"Please do not wake up our sick son." Fitz appeared from the office doorway with Andrew trailing behind him. "What is going on?"

Abby continued to hop from foot-to-foot as Harrison, Quinn, and Cyrus appeared from the office doorway that OGA used at the mansion. "Everyone sit down." She motioned to the sofa area, "Where's Mellie?"

"At work. It's the middle of a work day, Abby." Andrew pointed out.

"Well then I'll just call her." She held her hand out, "Phone." Jake dutifully placed his cell phone in her hand as she quickly dialed Mellie's number, waiting for her to respond, "You're on speaker phone and don't interrupt." Abby directed, laying the phone on the coffee table. "We have some news." Abby reached for Jake's hand. "We're getting married!" She thrust her hand out to show the glittering solitaire diamond ring.

Present Day - 2025

"Please tell me we don't have to listen to their entire wedding saga." Sammy moaned, "I hear it every year on their anniversary. I could quote it."

Fitz held up his hand, "No, it's not their story, it's my story, so you don't have to suffer through their entire wedding story."

"Hey, my wedding story is the best of everyone's." Abby protested.

"It's also the longest." Fitz interjected. "And I'm not forcing James to write it."

"Not sure you could pay me enough to do that." James quipped, grimacing when Abby's hand connected with the back of his head.

January 2007

"Abby," Olivia pulled her into a hug, "this is the best news ever. I'm so happy for you!"

"Congrats, man." Fitz slapped his best friend on the back.

"Oh, Ab, I'm so excited. Another wedding!" Mellie's voice echoed through the phone. "Weddings are so amazing!"

"That's not the only big news of the day." Fitz grinned and looked between Andrew and Olivia, both of whom were nodding encouragingly.

"There's more news?" Quinn asked as she admired Abby's ring, "Don't tell me you're pregnant again?"

"Oh, God no, not while Jer is this young." Olivia shook her head rapidly, "This is huge though, go ahead Fitz, tell them."

Fitz took a deep breath, "I'm going to run for President in the 2008 election." He declared.

"Seriously?" Abby squealed, "That is so amazing."

"And," Fitz held up his hand to silence her, "I'm going to back Andrew for Governor. He'll be up for election by the time all of this really gets rolling."

"Oh, baby, how did you not tell me?" Mellie screeched excitedly through the phone.

"Fitz told me this morning he wanted to run. We hadn't talked about November 2008 yet." He admitted.

"Andrew is going to make a wonderful Governor." Olivia murmured, "And you're going to be an incredible President."

"This means OGA is going to be in full politics mode." Harrison clapped his hands together.

"And that means minimal client work." Olivia told them, "We're solely focused on getting Andrew and Fitz into office."

"When do we get started?" Quinn asked quickly.

"They're starting to drop names for the primaries now. It's time to get Fitz's out there." Olivia grinned.
