He was the reason Gandalf had left as soon as they arrived. He also told him that Legolas was around and he was hoping to speak with him. Gilgalad was not sure how to react to that. He may have been upset over the way he had been treated by Legolas but if he was honest with himself he got over that a long time ago. The only anger he felt was because Legolas had had never acknowledged that he had been wrong and had actually downplayed his behaviour nor did he seek him out to ask for forgiveness for his behaviour. Another thing that he never knew was why he had done it in the first place. It was pretty extreme behaviour especially for an elf not to have a proper reason. Maybe he should talk to him and find out why the extreme behaviour. Gilgalad actually surprised his father when he agreed to meet Legolas. He was not sure what to expect as he himself was not happy with Legolas being at Riverndale. However the threat that had cropped up with Sauron demanded he put aside his ire in favour of an alliance with his old friend Thandruil and Legolas had changed, he had worked his way up in the ranks in his father's army and was leading them. Despite the fact that Legolas had been punished he was not willing to allow him to be alone with his son.

It was another day before Gilgalad was allowed to go about as usual. Draco had spent the majority of the day with him while he was instructed to rest. He was not allowed to go anywhere near the infirmary until his ada had given the go ahead. It was while he was going horse riding that he ran into Legolas. The last thing he expected was a familiar rush of feelings course through him when he saw him. He had felt the same way when he had seen Draco the first time at Black manor before he fainted. In his mind all he could say was 'No, no, no there is no way I can have two soul mates there has to be some kind of mistake.'
Meanwhile Legolas had had time to come to terms with the realisation that Gilgalad was his soul mate. He knew the night he was kicked out of Riverndale when they were celebrating Gilgalad's coming of age. He supposed Gilgalad had not noticed as he had different feelings inside warring for dominance, one of those being fury. He could see the dawning of the knowledge in his eyes and wondered if he would accept it or reject it. His heart beat faster as he waited to be acknowledged. Fear of rejection gripped him as he remembered the way he had treated him years ago. How stupid could he have been? How could he have not seen that Gilgalad would become a very important part of his life. He was the reason he had come with his father despite knowing that he would not be truly welcome. But he was willing to endure whatever they threw at him of it mean he would at least get a chance to undo the damage he had done and get to have his soul mate.
Gilgalad calmed his rushing emotions he would deal with them later, he would need to have his wits about him. Looking at Legolas he said "Hi!" It was a bit quiet and at first Legals thought he had imagined it. When he saw the expectant look on Gilgalad's face he tried to speak but all he could do was stare with his mouth open." Gilgalad noticing the blank stare on Legolas' face blushed when he realised he had accidentally released his allure when he had been hit with the new feelings. "Sorry about that." He felt the humiliation rush through him, how was he supposed to explain that it was an accident and that it had not been that long since he had learned how to control his allure. It wasn't so bad when it happened around Draco as he didn't know what was going on. Legolas on the other hand knew what it was and might think he was trying to lure him or something. Not that he would mind, but that was so not the point. Legolas gave his first real smile in a while and said "That's ok. I'm guessing it's not something you would normally have to worry about as you are usually surrounded by family and they are not affected." Gilgalad blushed even harder while he replied "Yes that's true and the drawback is I only learned how to control it recently. Ada was afraid of me growing up too fast and didn't mention anything till recently." Gilgalad turned to the horse to try and cover up his humiliation. He had just told a potential suitor that he had the talk from his father recently, he didn't think he would ever get over this embarrassment. However Legolas seeing how uncomfortable Gilgalad was getting over the incident became determined not to embarrass him even more so he changed the subject. "I wanted to formally apologise. I do realise that it was a long time ago but I also know that I never told you how sorry I was. Even before that night whe we last spoke I wanted to see you to tell you, although now I can't even think about how conceited I was. I just assumed it was my right to expect everything t be by gones just because of a few words. I have grown up since then and I am hoping that even if you are not willing to be friends that you would at least let us be aquaintences ."
Gilgalad could see the sincerity of the apology. However he wanted to know one thing "Actually I got over it years ago not long after I left your realm. I had already forgiven you. What did upset me was you never seemed to see that what you had done was wrong even afterwards. I do want to know though why did you hate me that much? What was it that I did to make you do that to me?" Legolas looked down in shame. He knew that he could lose any chance to be with Gilgalad once he mentioned the reason but he would not lie he would tell the truth and hope for the best. "It wasn't what you had done per se. It was what my father was trying to do. He kept trying to arrange marriage contracts for me long before we had even met and I was not too happy about that. I figured if I was going to spend the rest of my life with someone should it not be someone of my own choice? So I figured if I could put you off the idea before you even knew about it you might have a better chance at having the proposal rejected by your father. Mine refused to relent like he did with the others, he wanted you in the family."
