1.21- operation surprise nursery.
[ Derek and Lexie's first case back is an immigrant's case. Alex and Addison fight about Jo. Bailey calls Richard.]

S1- Mark and Lexie's house.
* Derek and Meredith ring the doorbell. *
Mark: Good morning to Auntie Meredith and Uncle Derek!
Meredith: Hey, where's Meredith?
Mark: Shes in her crib and she is very excited to see her Aunt and Uncle! Aren't you Meredith? * They walk over to her crib and look down at her*.
Lexie: I'm cooking.
Meredith: Is it eggs?
Lexie: What?
Meredith: I'm just kidding. I know you're allergic to eggs. Good morning sister. * Meredith goes over to hug and talk to her*.
Mark: Oh, by the way, Callie and Arizona are going to be here any second to pick up Meredith. They're going to take her to daycare today so Daddy and Mommy can get into work on time! How does that sound? * Meredith(the baby) smiles.* Good. * The doorbell rings*.
Lexie: Well, there they are honey. Can you watch the food while I say goodbye to her Mer?
Meredith: Of course.
Lexie: Be good for Aunt Callie and Aunt Arizona, okay? I'll see you later my girl.
* The doorbell rings and Lexie walks over, opening the door. *
Callie: Hey!
Lexie: Hi Callie, thank you for taking Meredith in to daycare for us. We wanted to be able to get into work on time.
Arizona: It's our pleasure. Is Mark awake yet or is he still snoring?
Mark: First of all, I'm right here Robbins. Second of all, I don't snore. It is like an insult to the human race to think I snore.
Lexie(whispers): He does. * They laugh and Lexie hands Meredith over to them*. Be good for your aunties little love. Bye-bye.
Arizona: Awh, she's so cute.
Lexie: Take good care of her and thank you again for doing this! You have no idea how much Mark and I appreciate this.
Callie: Were always happy to spend time with our niece. Bye guys. Can you wave goodbye to your Mommy? * Meredith doesn't do anything*.
Arizona: I guess that's a no Callie. Anyways, enjoy your morning.
Lexie: Thank you. Bye guys. * Arizona and Callie leave, Lexie shuts the door*.
Meredith: Lexie, the bacon is done so I put it on this napkin and the bagels are already on the plates.
Lexie: Thank you Mer. You can go sit down. * Meredith sits down*.
* 5 minutes later*.
Lexie: Okay, everything is all done. Here you go. * Lexie hands out the plates to everyone. She sits down. *
Meredith: Have you guys decided on which case to operate on?
Lexie: Yes. All the preparations were made Yesterday and everything is all set. We're supposed to meet our patient today.
Mark: Can somebody tell me what the case is about because Lexie's been hiding it from me.
Meredith: So has Derek.
Derek: That's because we wanted it to be a surprise. You can do the honors Lexie and tell them.
Lexie: Our patient is a seven-year old girl named Ariana. She is Spanish and she has a Giloblastoma that we will treat with radiation, chemotherpay, and surgery. The surgeries we will be doing is radiosurgery and a Craniotomy. She's an immigrant and she's still waiting on asylum.
Meredith: That sounds really big. Are you sure you're ready to tackle such a big case?
Lexie: I considered it heavily, but I am really excited to work on this case and I really want to provide her with the best medical care she can get which is Derek and I.
Mark: Well, it sounds good to me. It will get you two back into the OAR where you need to be.* Derek's phone blows up with texts*.
Meredith: Who is that?
Derek: It's Amelia. We left her in charge and we'll probaly come home to find the house on fire.
Meredith: Don't joke like that.
Derek: I thought it was funny. At first, she was panicked and texted me like crazy, but now, she says they're going to eat at Starbucks. That sounds like a healthy breakfast for Zola.
Meredith: That's why Amelia is labeled as "cool Auntie Amelia".
Lexie: And yet I was the first one who knew her. Children! * They all laugh*.
Derek: And she calls Cristina "kick-butt Auntie Cristina". There you have it ladies and gentlemen, it's a world full of cool Auntie Amelia's and kick-butt Auntie Cristina's.
Meredith: Before we forget to tell you, Derek and I want to take this chance to tell you our decision on the boy's names.
Lexie: Oh my god! Don't say that when I'm drinking my orange juice!
Mark: Oh, come on baby, it's gotta be Mark. Let's go Team Mark.
Lexie: Didn't Cristina make t-shirts with the words "team Mark" on it?
Mark: She did.
Meredith: Our first name is Mark Christopher Grey- Shepard.
Mark: Yeah, baby! The winner takes all and you're going to say the next one will be named Mark as well, right?
Lexie: You're big ego is taking up the whole house. Let Mer talk.
Mark: Go ahead and say Mark.
Meredith: The second name will be Ben Alexander Grey- Shepard. It was Derek's choice and I love it too.
Mark: So no Mark?
Derek: Sorry to disappoint you buddy.
Mark: I forgive you out of the kindness in my heart, which is why you should've named the second one after me too.
Lexie: Speaking of important news, are you ready to share with Meredith and Derek our news?
Derek: What? Breaking News: Mark Sloan actually has something going on in his life for the first time. I can see the headlines in newspapers all over Seattle already.
Mark: Shut up. If you must know, Lexie and I have decided to renew our vows.
Meredith: Oh my gosh, that's great! I'm so happy for you guys.
Mark: It was Lexie's brilliant idea.
Derek: Mark, I guess you've finally realized this one's a keeper.
Mark: Yeah, yeah, make jokes about my former years all you want.
Meredith: Oh, believe me, we will.
Mark: We should start eating breakfast if we want to get to work on time. * They all remain laughing and camera cuts to the next scene*.
S2- Neuro floor: * An hour later*.
* Lexie, Derek and Meredith are walking into the neuro floor when an ICE Agent is trying to take away Lexie and Derek's paitent.*
Meredith: What the hell is an ICE Agent doing here?
Derek: That's exactly what I think! Stop! You cannot take her!
Ariana's Mom: Dr. Shepard, please don't let them take her.
Meredith: I am the current Chief of this hospital and you need to stop what you are doing right now before this doesn't end up well!
ICE Agent: Ma'am, I will have you arrested if you object to me just doing my job.
Meredith: I will have you arrested if you object to me doing my job! This is my damn hospital and you have no rights here. She needs medical treatment!
ICE Agent: Her medical treatment does not concern in this matter, Ma'am.
Meredith: I think it doesn't concern you, but it sure as hell concerns me! She needs medical treatment.
ICE Agent: Ma'am, I don't think you understand.
Meredith: No. I don't think you understand when I say back away from the patient, you will listen to me.
ICE Agent: All do respect, I don't have to listen to you.
Meredith: What medical treatment will she get?
ICE Agent: That is not up to me Ma'am. My job is to remove her so we can use an airplane to transport her to a detention facility.
Lexie: Meredith, how do we stop this?
Meredith: As the current Chief who is in charge of this hospital, I promise you that you'll be going nowhere until you listen to Ariana's doctors and myself. Are we clear?
ICE Agent: We will let you make your arguments until it is a mandatory for us to take her away if you cannot find a valid reason by the law.
Derek: Ariana, can you tell me how you're feeling? * She starts whimpering*.
Ariana: They say I-I cannot talk to you Dr. Shepard.
Derek: Yeah, you can. How's the pain on a scale from 1-10?
Ariana: It's- it hurts so badly. I think it's a...a nine. Please just help me. I don't want to feel like this anymore.
Derek: Dr. Grey and I will do everything in our power so we can. You're safe here. Now, I need you to lie down in you're room with your Mom. You need rest beore the big surgery, okay?
Ariana: Okay. * She goes into the room with her Mom*.
ICE Agent: There are many red flags in this little girl's treatment. For starters, she doesn't even have insurance!
Lexie: Did you know 39/ percent of undocumented immigrants don't have insurance?
ICE Agent: Who are you? Miss Photograph Memory?
Lexie: That is my talent and yours is taking people away from their families? Huh?
ICE Agent: Hey, I just want what's best.
Meredith: And that's refusing this little girl her right to healthcare and separating her from her Mother? Uh... I don't think so. We're prepared to make a deal with you.
Ice Agent: I'm listening.
Meredith: After her surgery and her recovery is over then you can take her.
Derek and Lexie: What? Meredith!
Ice Agent: But we cannot wait that long. We have to follow through on these orders.
Meredith: Who ordered you to show up at my hospital and refuse a little girl healthcare because of where she came from?
Ice Agent: The president.
Derek: Hashatag not my president.
Ice Agent: What was that sir?
Derek: Oh, nothing. Just muttering to myself like I always do.
Meredith: Look, I truly—truly—don't want this to end up badly, but I will do whatever it takes to defend this little girl and her rights.
Ice Agent: The fact of the matter is this little girl has no insurance, she is undocumented-
Meredith: Because her Mother hasn't been giving an opportunity to plead her case. This is an on-going, asylum-seeking case that you have no rights here to butt into. My doctors have a right to treat immigrants documented or undocumented, and you can't say anything about it. Go be a villain somewhere else. And while you're at trying to discredit this little girls rights, you might want to consider the fact that this is pro-bonal. This is my hospital's choice, not yours.
ICE Agent: I will be back Cheif Grey.
Meredith: Whatever. Run along. * The ICE Agent leaves*.
Derek: Meredith, what were you thinking? We have to make sure she doesn't get put into a detention facility at all even after we treat her.
Lexie: I love you Mer, but I have to take Derek's side on this one.
Meredith: Do you both think I'm nuts? By the time her recovery process is over, her case for asylum would've been pleaded and made a verdict on by the Court.
Lexie: And what if they deny the plead?
Meredith: Were not there yet and when that time comes, good verdict or bad verdict, we will come up with a plan untied together. Now that this case is a case where the stakes are high, I'm going to overview every move and every treatment given to Ariana. I will overview her legal case and we'll be working very closely together to make sure we win. I will be watching in the OAR today.
Lexie: Okay. Thanks Mer. As much as I love Bailey, I gotta confess you really are an excellent Cheif.
Meredith: Thank you Lex. There is no room for error here. * Meredith leaves*.
Lexie: When it comes right down to it, the closet thing to Wonder Woman is Meredith Grey.
Derek: I know, right?
S3- The ON/CALL room.
Jo: Hey, I'm so sleepy. I pulled a night shift in the OAR—what's wrong?
Alex: I think Addison... she knows about us. That's why I came to the hospital to tell you. I'm still on my leap of absence.
Jo: What? How could you let this happen?
Alex: Exuse me?
Jo: She is or was my boss. The point is she has a lot of pull with the people around here and I can't piss off.
Alex: Addison isn't like that.
Jo: You say that because you're clearly still in love with her. And the only reason why you are is because you're afraid to be alone.
Alex: Hey! I don't even know if she really knows.
Jo: The possibltiy that she may know is enough for me to open my eyes. I have to get out of this relationship.
Alex: Hey Jo, no, you are my favorite person in the world and I—I... you're my Jo. I need you.
Jo: Alex, we were a mistake.
Alex: A mistake? No. No, Jo, all I know is I have very real feelings for Addison.
Jo: Great! We've established that. Why are we still here?
Alex: Because were waiting for each other. That's why we're still here. * They kiss softly*.
Jo: Before I go, I need you to tell me how Addison knows. Did you tell her? Did you pick her?
Alex: No. I accidentently butt-dialed a conversation we had, and I'm not even sure she's allowed to use her phone. But she may have already seen it.
Jo: Oh god, this is all my fault. How could we be so stupid? Could we be any stupider?
Alex: This isn't our fault. I'm going to talk to Addison and everything will be fine. I promise.
Jo: Stop saying that. You and I are like a tornado, and Addison, she.. she's Addison Montgomery!
Alex: And you're Jo Wilson. This will all be resolved. I'll call Addison and we'll get everything sorted out.
Jo: Okay.
Alex: Did you acutally agree with me for once?
Jo: Shut up. * Jo's pager goes off*. I have to go.
Alex: Okay. * Jo leaves and Alex calls Addison*.
Addison: Alex, don't even bother.
Alex: What? Like you didn't even bother with me the whole time you were in L.A?
Addison: I don't need a damn lecture! Thank you! I know what I did was...bad, but your solution to our problems is to cheat on me with some intern?
Alex: Don't talk about Jo like that. She was there for me when you never were.
Addison: Are you blaming me for putting myself above you when I am the one going through the emotional trauma—the screams, the terror, the feeling of nothingness in your soul constantly pressing on you.
Alex: You never think about anyone besides yourself. Jo doesn't make me crazy. She doesn't make me feel like I want to pull my hair out when I think about her. I don't wake up thinking about her everyday and think about her before I go to sleep and dream about her every night. You've made it very clear that you and I can't work, but that doesn't stop me from loving you! Because the truth is I am so enraptured in you that I would slit my throat for you. I have to feel sane again! I don't want to feel like this. If you had any idea of what I've been going through without you, you would not spend one second judging me because my feelings for you are big and they will always be there no matter how much I try to push you away, but with Jo, she doesn't make me feel like that. She's my friend. She's there for me when you aren't.
Addison: Alex, fine. You win. Go get Jo if that's what you really want.
Alex: You don't hear me. I want you! And Jo is really nice as I said, but what matters is she's not you. She can't replace you and you make me hate her for that.
Therapist(Addison's): I need you to hand my assistant the phone in a few minutes.
Addison(talking to the Therapist): Okay.
Thepapist( Addison's): Thank you. * She leaves*.
Addison: Alex, I'm not going to go anywhere after Im finished here. I'm moving to Seattle permantly and I'm going to see if Amelia wants to buy an apartment with me. But when I vision my new life in my new apartment, I vision you there and all I need to now is it you do too.
Alex: Of course I do. I love you, but we need to work on things because I matter in this relationship too.
Addison: I know and I'm sorry.
Alex: Thank you. Do you have to go now?
Addison: I do. Sorry about that too. * They both laugh and hang up*.
S4- The Neuro floor.
* Meredith walks onto the Neuro floor to see Richard on the phone with someone and he hangs up*.
Meredith: Were you just talking to who I think you were talking to?
Richard: No.
Meredith: Really?
Richard: Fine! It was Bailey! I have left her thirty voicemails and she hasn't responded!
Meredith: Maybe because she thinks her mentor has been overtaken by some crazy physcopath that calls her all the time! You need to find something to do with your life.
Richard: But I have nothing! No surgery, no nothing.
Meredith: Then go down to the pit and help Kepner. Log some trauma hours.
Richard: Incase you've forgotten, I don't take odors from you. I was your mentor as much as I was Bailey's.
Meredith: And now I make the orders. Find something to do besides obessss and worry about Bailey! Now!
Richard: I spent most of my carrer teaching interns for them to boss me around. * Richard leaves*.
Meredith: I heard that!
Richard: You were meant too!
Meredith: Hey Lex, woah, that's a lot of legal documents.
Lexie: Im trying to find a loophole through this. This has to not concern her immigration status in the law. But it has to concern her healthcare.
Meredith: I had no idea you got a law degree from Harvard like that! Bamb!
Lexie: Well, I am Miss Photograph Memory.
Meredith: I actually am going to meet with my legal department in the conference room after watching the surgery. I think you would be a very valuable asset to them as a doctor on her case.
Lexie: I don't know Mer. This is already so much to take!
Meredith: You're an excellent doctor. You have nothing to be scared of.
Lexie: What if They take her? And what about Derek? This will be another failure he won't be able to take.
Meredith: Derek's a big boy. I'm sure he can take it.
Lexie: Your'e right. What am I saying?
Meredith: Being right all the time does happen to be in the Grey DNA. * Maggie approaches and makes a shocked face*. Dr. Pierce, how's your first day going?
Maggie: Uh...great! It's been...great.
Meredith: That's good to hear. I hope you're enjoying meeting your fellow colleagues and seeing how this hospital works.
Maggie: Yeah. Everyone's really nice. I just met Dr. Avery as I was taking my patient for a CT scan.
Meredith: Well, I'm very happy you seem to be enjoying Seattle Grace so far. If you need any help or have any questions about anything, I'm here for you.
Maggie: Thank you Chief Grey. * Maggie leaves*.
Lexie: She seemed a little weird.
Meredith: It's her first day. Give her a break. You dropped the "I'm your sister" bomb on me and " I just met the love of your life at Joe's-the same place where we met".
Lexie: Did I ever apologize for that? Perhaps my honestly is a lot to hand sometimes.
Meredith: Ah, Lexie. You've got this. I have to go, but I'll see you and Derek in surgery from the OAR gallery.
Lexie: Thank you.
Meredith: For what?
Lexie: For being my sister. * Meredith smiles before leaving*.
S5- The Scrub Room: * 20 minutes later*.
Lexie: Derek, she's in the OAR gallery. She's counting on you and so am I.
Derek: She will be here. I just I need to see her before I go in there. Please leave.
Lexie: Okay. * Lexie leaves and goes into the OAR*.
Meredith: Derek, you and Lexie have this. Why do you need me?
Derek: What if I fail? What if this will be another repeat of my failures? I try to be happy. I try to see the best in things, but I'm afraid that because of that I don't see the outcomes in things like this.
Meredith: Your positivity and your optimism, as much as it is the opposite of my beliefs is what makes you a good surgeon. You don't let Statics or past cases impact this case because you believe that this case might be your best yet and you know that saving a life no matter the risk you are facing as you take that scalpel is worth it because...
Derek: It's a beautiful day to save lives.
Meredith: Exactly. Now go.
Derek: Thank you. * Derek leaves and enters the OAR*. Alright, everyone, it's a beautiful day to save lives.
Lexie: You said it.
Derek: Of course I did. Now scalpel.
S6- The Trauma pit.
* Richard's phone rings and it's Bailey. He walks outside*.
April: Dr. Webber, where are you going? * He's already gone*.
Richard: Hey.
Bailey: Hi. Ben is dead, and now, it feels like nothing will ever be the same again.
Richard: Are you and Tuck okay?
Bailey: Ben is dead. I'm not okay. I don't think I ever will be again. I'm not ready for therapy. I'm not ready to talk to anyone. I'm not ready for the sad looks from everyone in the hospital and the grief food, but it feels like the only thing I have left of Ben is Seattle. The only thing that can make me want to keep living is the hospital, and sometimes the memories of Ben make me feel like for one second he'll walk in the door and apologize for being gone so long because his boss made him work the night shift.
Richard: I- I'm-
Bailey: Don't say you're sorry. And Tuck deserves stability and a Mom that is present there. I need to be there for me and I think the way I help him get through his grief is by reminding him that Ben is always with us even if he isn't.
Richard: I don't know what to say except you are kind, selfless and a great surgeon on top of that. Tuck is lucky he has a mother that puts his needs above her own.
Bailey: Hey, I may be grieving but I still don't like it when people suck up to me.
Richard: That's the Bailey I know. If there is anything-
Bailey: Yes, Richard, if there is anything you can do to help me, you will be the first person that I notify.
Richard: Thank you.
Bailey: You're welcome. There is something you can help me with...only if you want.
Richard: What is it?
Bailey: I'm so embarrassed to ask this, but Richard, I want to rember Ben. I know that, but being in that house was torture. It felt like at everyone corner I turned was a reminder of everything I had lost. It was filled with so many memories of Ben, Tuck and I. It wasn't meant for it to be just Tuck and I. And until I find a house I like, I was wondering if you would possibly let me stay with you.
Richard: Really? Of course. We can be-what do the teens call it nowadays?
Bailey: Roommates?
Richard: Yes.
Bailey: Do me a favor and don't say that word ever again. We are not roommates. We are simply two friends living together until the other friend can get back on her feet. I talked to Tuck. He likes the idea, but he wants to live in a house asap so I have to get working on that.
Richard: Tuck will be very lucky to be a part of my famous man-to man speeches, and Bailey, I'm going to create a tastchag called roommates for us on teat.
Bailey: Sir, I think you mean hashtag and twitter.
Richard: Whatever. * Bailey laughs*.
Bailey: I have to go sir.
Richard: Bye.
Bailey: Bye. * Bailey hangs up*.
S7- The elavator.
Jo: Did you talk to Addison? * Alex makes a face*. What?
Alex: Before I go back home, I—I'm—
Jo: You chose Addison, didn't you?
Alex: I wish I didn't. But she and I...
Jo: I get it. She's the love of your life Alex. Having someone to love is what life's all about. Isn't that what all the shrinks say?
Alex: Yeah. I guess. Look, I'm sorry for involving you in my mess. I never should have used you like that when I still knew I loved Addison. I just didn't want to admit and I am so sorry. I never meant to hurt you.
Jo: I knew about her and I went for you anyway. I—I wish the best for both of you. * She fake smiles*.
Alex: You don't have to say that. Can we at least still be friends?
Jo: Of course. * She fake smiles, trying to hide the tears*. Th—this is my stop. * Jo rushes off the elevator, trying to hide her tears. Alex looks guilty*.
S8- The OAR.
Derek: I opened the skull. Now I need you to expose the brain.
Lexie: Done. I think we have a clear visualization.
Derek: Yes. There—the piece of bone is removed from the skull.* Everyone claps*. Don't clap yet. This girl still has a long road ahead of her and the craniotomy hasn't been closed yet. Nurse Vivian, can you close?
Nurse Vivian: Yes.
Derek: Okay. * Derek and Lexie go to the scrub room to scrub out*.
Lexie: That was awesome in there.
Derek: It was. I handled it today—the possibility of working so hard to save someone's life and them still dying haunted me, but today, it didn't because all I was focused on is it's a beautiful day to save lives.
Lexie: It is.
Derek: And Ben's dealth as much as it's haunted me also has reminded me that telling people how much you love them and being positive is what keeps us going. Incase I haven't told you, I—am sort of your big brother and I love you.
Lexie: Right back at y'a.
Derek: I have an operation.
Lexie: What? Another surgery?
Derek: No. It's like a mission. Anyways, I have set up an operation called surprise nursery. I need you to take Meredith out for drinks after work because I want to surprise her with a nursery.
Lexie: That's so romantic. But what if I crack and she figures out about it?
Derek: That's exactly why you can't crack because I want to do this for her. We've barely had any time to disscuss about this stuff since Meredith's new role as Interm Cheif, Ben's dealth, I really want to do this for.
Lexie: Okay. I'll help you. We aren't just only the surgical dream team, but we're also the baby dream team.
Derek: It's a qualification you can include on your resume. * They both laugh*.
S9- Meredith and Derek's house: * later*.
Meredith: I'm home from drinks with Lexie. Where's Derek? * Cristina smiles*. First, why are you smiling? And second, why aren't you at work?
Cristina: I don't work all the time believe it or not. Okay, maybe a little. Anyways, nobody here has no idea where Derek is.
Meredith: I'm going to check upstairs. * She walks up the stairs and sees the nursery decorated*.
Derek: I wanted it to be a surprise.
Meredith: Derek—this is—a lot! This must have cost you a damn fortune!
Derek: You and the boys are worth every penny of it. And that's not the reaction I was hoping for, but I'll take it.
Meredith: No. It's just so beautiful.
Derek: Like you. * They kiss*.
Meredith: Thank you.
Derek: Shh. * He kisses her neck and Meredith moans loudly*.
Meredith: I love you.
Derek: I love you too, and this room is everything I wanted it to be for you.
Meredith: Thank you.
Zola: Direct orders come from kick-butt Auntie Cristina to get downstairs. The babies room looks so nice.
Meredith: It was all daddy. If you weren't always doing your homework, you would've noticed.
Zola: Hey!
Derek: Hey!
Zola: Stop mocking me Daddy!
Cristina: I'm serious lovebirds! A nursery is not that important!
Meredith: Were coming! * Meredith and Derek all laugh as the scence fades out with the title Greys Anatomy*.
