Chapter 21
Know I haven't updated this in ages, I just haven't had any new ideas for it but have a few now so thought I'd start updating this again alongside my other fic.
It was a Thursday afternoon and Rachel had just received a call from Jess and Olivia's school, telling her that Olivia wasn't feeling very well and that she needed to come and pick her up. Rachel sighed because there seemed to be thousands of things to do around school at the moment and although she'd only be gone for about half an hour of so it was bait of an inconvenience. However if Olivia really was poorly there wasn't much she could do about it.
Rachel went over and grabbed her black coat that was hung up and out it over herself, she then got her bag before going out.
"Chris I've got to nip out, I promise I'll be as quick as I possibly can, just keep an eye on everything for me will you?"
"Yeah sure, take as long as you need"
Rachel smiled at him quickly before going out to the car park and getting in her car.
Olivia's school was quite near, so it didn't take her long to drive over there. Once she was there she parked up and went inside to the reception.
"Hi I've come to collect Olivia, I had a call saying she wasn't feeling very well"
"Oh yes, so are you her mum?"
"I am yes"
The receptionist then went to the little corridor behind her office where the staff room and head-teachers office were, she'd left Olivia sitting on one of the chairs there however she couldn't seem to see her anymore.
"I'm not too sure where she's gone, I left her outside" the receptionist said sounding a little worried
Rachel was about to respond when suddenly Olivia's teacher appeared in the office
"Hi Rachel, you looking for Olivia" she asked
"Yeah apparently she wasn't feeling well"
"I think I just saw her nipping to the loo" she said "actually can I have a quick chat with you? That's if you have the time"
"Yeah sure" Rachel said but she was hoping this wouldn't take too long as she felt she really did need to get back to work.
Rachel followed her into the little corridor and mrs Jackson then closed the door.
"Sorry to drag you away from work, I know it's probably really inconvenient"
"Oh it's no problem honestly I've got cover" Rachel said "so what's up with Olivia, she see,ed fine this morning well actually she was quite reluctant to come to school but she has been every day over the past week or so ... There's nothing going on is there?"
"Well that's what I wanted to talk to you about, she's seemed so ... Distant over this last week and not like her usual self at all, I've had a talk with her a few times it she's insisted there's nothing wrong and well today she seemed even worse and she said she had to go to the loo, she'd been quite a while so I sent one of her friends to check up on her and apparently she was crying in the toilet so I went to find her and she seemed really upset but she said she felt really poorly"
"that doesn't sound like liv if she's poorly it never comes on just all of a sudden, well unless she's trying to get the day off that is, do you reckon that's all she's after?"
"Well that's why we were reluctant to call you, but she seemed so upset and she wouldn't talk to any of us we didn't think it right to keep her in school"
Rachel sighed wondering what had happened, normally she'd be annoyed if Olivia was trying to get the day off but from what were saying it did sound like she'd been very upset about something however whether it was because she was poorly or not she wasn't sure.
"Look you know she had a few issues with bullying a while back you don't think it's anything to do with that do you?" Rachel asked
"No I'm almost certain it's not that, I've been keeping a close eye in that and to be honest everything seems fine, Olivia's very popular with the other kids and she's normally extremely bubbly,we had a supply teacher in all last week because I was Ill but I don't think anything went on there"
"Right well I'll have a chat with her later on, see if there's anything going on" Rachel said "thanks so much for letting me know"
"Its no problem, you know I just like to keep parents in the loop, though I'm sure that's not something he kids appreciate"
Rachel laughed at this before saying "no I'm sure it isn't, but thanks anyway I'll go and catch up with her now, which toilets did she go in?"
"Just the ones straight ahead" mrs Jackson said pointing
Rachel then went over and opened the door
"Liv it's mum, are you okay" Rachel asked once she was inside
Olivia then opened the toilet door and came out, Rachel was shocked when she saw her tearstained face, she went straight over to her and lifted her up.
"Hey sweetheart what's up?" Rachel asked
"I really don't feel well" Olivia sobbed
"Okay come on let's go and get in the car we'll talk about it in there"
Olivia followed her mum out and got in the front of the car.
"So how don't you feel well love?"
"I feel sick and I've got a headache" Olivia mumbled
Rachel then put her hand on Olivia's forehead and realised she did actually feel a bit warm, but thought this might be just because she'd got herself all worked up.
"That must have come on quite suddenly liv, I mean you seemed okay this morning, or at least you didn't tell me any different"
Olivia didn't say anything just continued staring at her feet.
"Liv has something gone on you want to chat to me about" Rachel asked gently "I'm not going to mad at you for wanting to have the day off, but i would like you to be honest with you and tell me of there's something that's happened?"
"Mum I just feel poorly that's all" Olivia insisted
"Okay" Rachel said knowing how stubborn Olivia could be about things like this and Rachel began to think that maybe it was just that Olivia wasn't feeling very well "so what are we going to do with you for the rest of today"
"I want to stay with you" Olivia said
"Well if that's what you want to do then that's fine, but mums got a lot of work to do so you're going to have to be a really good girl and let me get on okay?"
Olivia nodded her head.
Rachel then drove to school, although she could probably do without having Olivia to look after this afternoon there wasn't really a lot she could do about it as Betty was having her treatment this afternoon so she couldn't look after her and all Rachel's friends were at work as well.
Olivia got up and followed her mum into her office, she'd been in it a few times before, when she'd been Ill or her mum had to stay at work late but she still always did find it interesting looking round.
"Right what do you want to drink" Rachel asked
"I'm not thirsty mum"
"Well it might help with the headache, I'll get you some water and then just sip that"
Rachel went through her desk and found a bottle of water,she always did like to keep a lot in her desk for work.
Olivia took it and started to sip.
"You feeling tired love" Rachel asked thinking that Olivia did look like she needed a good sleep as she had dark rings round her eyes
"A little bit"
"Well why don't you have a little lie down on my sofa over there"
"But what if someone walks in and I'm asleep"
"They won't mind love, I'm sure most people will have seen worse things go on Im here believe me"
Olivia walked over and lied down and Rachel put some cushions under her head.
After about 10 minutes Olivia fell fast asleep, Rachel smiled when she saw her thinking that maybe she'd feel better once she'd had a little rest.
Olivia stayed asleep for an hour or so and when she woke up it was only about 2 minutes to the bell.
"Hey darling, you had a long sleep"
Olivia sat up immediately feeling worried
"Did anyone see me"
"A few people, they said how cute you looked" Rachel said smiling
Olivia sat up on the sofa.
"How you feeling?" Rachel asked
Olivia just shrugged her shoulders not really knowing what to say
"So what's making you poorly love"
Olivia thought for a moment before saying "Urn I have a headache and a stomach ache"
"Well I've got some medicine back at home to sort that out"
A few minutes after the bell had gone Katie came in, but she was surprised when she saw her cousin sat on the sofa
"Hi Rach" Katie said sounding cheerful
"Hiya love how was school"
"About as good as school gets I suppose, what's Olivia doing here?"
"She got sent home from school early, she's not feeling very well are you liv?"
"No" Olivia mumbled
"Oh when did you come home"
"After lunch"
A couple of minutes later, Rachel realised it was time to get Jess from her after school club, Olivia and Jess went there kist nights because Rachel didn't finish work in time to pick them up at the normal school hours
The three of them got in the car and Rachel started driving off
"I can't believe your schools still open tomorrow liv" Katie said
Tomorrow the teachers were on strike so that meant a lot of the schools in the area were shut, however a lot of the teachers in Jess and Olivia's school weren't in the union that was striking so that meant school was still open.
"Yeah but I'm poorly" Olivia said instantly
"Well chances are you'll be better by tomorrow Olivia" Rachel said "and anyway Katie don't expect a very exciting day off, I've got a load of house work to do so I'll be busy most of the day anyway."
"Yeah but it's still nice having an extra day off for the weekend"
Rachel couldn't really argue with this, although when the strike was announced she was dreading having to organise it all, it was nice thinking she didn't have to get up and go to work tomorrow.
Once Rachel had parked up she left Katie and Olivia in the car together while she went and got Jess.
"Are you really Ill or did you just want the day off" Katie asked the minute Rachel had left the car
When Olivia didn't respond Katie said "I'm not going to grass on you we all do it sometimes"
"No I really am poorly" Olivia insisted
"Oh you won't mind Rach giving you some of that vile medicine she's got stored away then"
Olivia forgot about that but knew that if she said she was Ill there was no way she could persuade her mum not to give her it.
About 10 minutes had passed and Rachel still hadn't come back
"Where the hell is she" Katie sighed really wanting to head home
Just as she'd said this however she saw Rachel coming back with Jess however neither of them looked particularly happy.
Katie smiled at the look on both her aunt and her sisters face, it was obvious the pair of them had finished up having a little disagreement about something.
"Jess get in" Rachel said
Jess quickly got in the back next to Olivia
"It's not fair, if you'd have picked me up when you picked Olivia up I wouldn't have even got in trouble in the first place"
"Jess I think it's best if you keep that mouth of yours shut for the time being don't you?"
"What's she done" Katie asked trying to stop herself laughing
"Well she got into a fight in after school club so now she's been banned from it from the next four days, which Is great isn't it when I don't have a. Out who's going to pick her up from school"
Katie couldn't stop herself laughing now and burst into a fit of giggles
"It's not a laughing matter, it's very serious Jess"
"Who gets kicked out of after school club though" Katie soda still laughing
"I don't know but that sister of yours managed it"
Jess did begin to feel a bit bad now because she could tell she'd made her aunt angry
"Rachel if you want I'll just walk home"
"Jess you'd probably finish up getting run over because you'd run out into the road chasing I don't know, a football or something" Rachel sighed however even she couldn't help but give a small smile.
"I really am sorry"
"So you should be" Rachel said however she wasn't really that cross.
Rachel drove the rest of the way home and then let the girls in.
They all dashed upstairs to go and get changed and while they were doing this, Rachel went to the medicine cabinet and got the medicine out for Olivia. She knew how much all three of the girls hated the type she'd got, but it was a good way to tell if they really were poorly or not.
Rachel went upstairs and went to Olivia's room, she knocked once before going in.
She was surprised when she saw Olivia sat just in her vest and knickers on her bed
"Aren't you going to get changed liv" Rachel asked
Olivia gave a quick nod before going and getting her pyjamas because she felt like getting all cosy
"Pyjamas already" Rachel said laughing
Olivia quickly finished getting changed before down on her bed and Rachel sat down beside her
"Right ivd brought some medicine so come on open wide"
Olivia sighed but knew she didn't have a choice someone's her mouth wide and let her mum give her the medicine
"Liv is everything okay" Rachel asked once she'd given it to her
Olivia nodded her head hoping Rachel wasn't going to start prying too much
"Look I want you to know... And I'm not going to go on and on but if there is something going on here I want you to know you can tell me absolutely anything and it won't make me love you any less I promise"
"There's nothing mum" Olivia said
"Okay I just wanted to make sure "
Rachel then left Olivia's room and started getting on with some house work for a bit, but after a while went into Katie's room because she wanted to have a talk with her about something.
Rachel walked into her nieces bedroom and found her on FaceTime to one of her friends.
Katie quickly said goodbye before putting her iPad down
"Sorry love i didn't mean to interrupt, i would have waited if you wanted to keep talking to her."
"I didn't I was getting bored of talking to her so I needed an excuse to go" Katie said causing Rachel to laugh.
"Have you got your school uniform with you, I may as well put it in the wash now" Rachel said
Katie looked round her bedroom and after a while managed to find everything so handed it to Rachel.
"Katie would you be able to do me a big favour"
"Depends what it is"
"Well as you know liv came home early, but the thing is her teacher seems to think there might be something going on"
"Rach she might not be poorly but I doubt there's anything wrong she probably just wanted a day off school, all kids must do it"
"I know, I know but the thing is liv has seemed really quiet and that's a very tell tale sign that liv is upset about something, and I've tried talking with her but I think she thinks that I didn't know ... She's going to get into trouble or it's too embarrassing to tell me about, so I was wondering if you'd maybe talk to her"
"Sure"
"Thankyou, that's really helpful"
They chatted for a bit longer and then Katie went off into Olivia's room, she didn't really know what to says to her, however she did want to help her aunt out if she could.
Katie walked into her room and saw Olivia laid down on her bed hugging one of her Teddy's, however she quickly put this away when she saw Katie come in as she didn't want her thinking she was a baby, so Katie just pretended not to notice
"Hey Olivia, Do you feel better yet"
"No I'm really poorly" Olivia said
"Well hopefully you'll be better by tomorrow so you can go back to school"
Olivia didn't say anything and tried to avoid eye contact with Katie, however Katie picked up on this, she was very like her aunt in the sense that she would always pick up on the smallest of things.
"Do you like it then, your school"
Olivia shrugged her shoulders but then nodded her head
"What are the girls in your class like, there not giving you any grief are they?"
Olivia shook her head
Katie stayed for a bit longer but realised she wasn't going to get anything out of her so decided to just leave if.
About an hour or so later Rachel called then down, she'd got some takeaway pizzas as she really couldn't be bothered cooking tonight
They all came down and started eating
"Rachel can I go out and play after tea?" Jess asked hopefully
"It's already getting a bit late love, why don't you arrange to play out tomorrow"
"But I want to play tonight" Jess whined
Rachel rolled her eyes hoping Jess wouldn't go on too much as she really wasn't in the mood
"Jess you're not going out tonight and that's final"
"But that's not fair" Jess shouted getting all upset, like she often did if her aunt didn't give in to her everlasting list of demands
"Jess don't raise your voice at me please"
"I hate you" Jess muttered under her breath but she wasn't quiet enough for Rachel not to hear.
"Oh dear, it looks like someone's getting all tired early to bed I think it is for you"
"You're being horrible to me, I want to go and play" Jess shouted
Rachel could tell Jess wasn't going to give up and if she kept arguing back with her it would on,y get worse
"Jess go and stand outside please"
"No" Jess said instantly
"Go on outside now, and you can stand out there until I come and get you"
"But I haven't even had my pizza, only horrible people like the ugly step-mum in my book that I'm reading stop people eating"
"Well then I'm obviously just as horrible and ugly as the person in your book then aren't i?"
Jess knew her aunt wasn't going to back down so stomped outside
Rachel then saw that Katie was in hysterics about her sister
"Stop that" Rachel said firmly
"I can't help it she's so funny when she's in a mood" Katie giggled
"No I mean it stop that right now, because Jess needs to learn that she can't throw a massive tantrum and automatically get what she wants, her behaviours got worse over this last week and I'm not having it in my house, and half the time she only does it for attention and by laughing you're only giving her what she wants so she's going to do it all the more."
Katie stopped laughing realising her aunt was being serious so just continued to eat her pizza
"Liv is that pizza okay, you've barely touched it" Rachel commented
"I'm just not hungry" Olivia told her "I've still got a tummy ache"
"Yeah but you still need to eat love" Rachel said "okay pizza probably isn't the best option but how about if I do some dry toast would you eat that"
Olivia nodded her head knowing her mum wouldn't stop until she agreed to have something
Rachel got up and quickly made it for her
"there you go love" Rachel said giving it to her
"Right do you think it's time to get madam back" Rachel said
"Jess" rachel called, however she didn't get a response
She then got up and went outside and saw Jess leaning against the wall with tears in her eyes
"Come on you, come and finish your tea"
"I'm fine"
Rachel sighed before going over to her
"You shouted at me" Jess said
"I didn't shout at you Jess, and anyway you shouted at me"
Jess didn't say anything but started at the floor biting her nails
"Hey take those nails out your mouth I've told you about that"
"I'm sorry Rachel" Jess sobbed
"Okay you just need to learn that sometimes you need to just accept when people say no and not argue back"
Jess wiped her tears away and looked up at her aunt, when she did she could tell she wasn't really angry at her
"So you going to come and finish your pizza off" Rachel said
Jess nodded so the two of them went back in the kitchen
They sat down and started eating again
They were all chatting but Rachel noticed Olivia hadn't said a word and when she looked at her she noticed Olivia looked as though she had tears in her eyes that she kept hastily wiping away, and Olivia looked like she was doing everything she could to stop herself from bursting into tears
"Liv are you done" Rachel asked as Olivia had stopped eating her toast
Olivia nodded her head
"Put your plate by the dishwasher then"
Olivia got up and put her plate away before sitting back down
Rachel could tell she wanted to get out
"Olivia do you want to go upstairs love, you don't look too well"
Olivia nodded before darting upstairs
The others quickly finished there tea and then went into the living room to watch some tv.
Rachel cleared up after tea and then decided to put some washing away.
She went upstairs with her big pile of washing and started putting it away.
She had quite a lot of Olivia's stuff so grabbed it all together and went into her bedroom
When she went in Olivia was laid on her stomach
"Hey darling I'm just putting the washing away" Rachel told her
Rachel started organising it all into her drawers damp wardrobe
"You still not feeling any better , you looked a bit upset at tea" Rachel said as she was putting her stuff away
"I feel sick still"
"Oh dear, well if you think you're going to be sick go straight to the bathroom okay" Rachel said
"Yeah" Olivia mumbled
"Actually I'll bring a bowl up just in case"
"Okay"
"And I think you should go to bed quite early tonight so hopefully you'll be well enough to go to school in the morning"
Olivia instantly began to get worried as she really didn't want to go to school tomorrow
"I still feel really poorly though"
"Yeah but you'll feel better after a good sleep I'm sure"
A couple of hours passed and Rachel had just got Jess and Olivia off to sleep, Olivia had wanted her to stay while she went to sleep, but she seemed really unsettled so it had taken a while.
Rachel decided to go and watch some tv with Katie
"Katie love put a DVD on" Rachel said once she was downstairs
After a while they decided on one they both liked so put it on.
Although they were both really enjoying the film they both seemed really tired so after a while decided to go to bed
Katie went up first while Rachel got herself a drink however to her surprise after just a minute or so Katie came running back down
"Blimey that was a short sleep" Rachel joked
"I think Olivia's crying, well at least it sounded like that when we went passed" Katie told her aunt
"Right thanks for letting me know, I'll go and see her now"
Katie then ran up to bed and Rachel had a few sips of her water before going up.
She heard Olivia crying when she was outside her room so went straight in and saw her sat up in bed tears running down her face
"Hey" Rachel Said "hey liv it's okay"
Rachel went straight over and Olivia sat down on her knee and began to cry into her.
"You going to talk me though what's wrong love" Rachel asked
"I ..feel really sick" Olivia stammered
Rachel didn't know if she was telling the truth or not as it looked as if it was a bit more than a poorly stomach
"Okay" Rachel said hugging her tightly and rocking her on her knee
After a while Olivia stopped crying and just relaxed into her mums chest
"Good girl, you just stay right here with me for now" Rachel soothed
Olivia and Rachel stayed cuddled up for a couple of minutes
"Right now what's wrong"
"My tummy hurts so much mum" Olivia sobbed
"Darling are you absolutely sure you're just upset because you're poorly"
"Yes"
"I wonder what's causing that then, I mean you haven't been sick or anything have you" Rachel said "do you think if might help if you went to the toilet"
"No" Olivia said
"Okay well are you ready to go back to sleep" Rachel asked "you can come in with me if you think it'd help you know just in case you woke up again"
Olivia nodded before going with her mum through to her room
"Mum please can I go for a wee before I go back to sleep"
"Yeah of course you can, you're not at school you don't need to ask permission" Rachel said laughing slightly
Olivia quickly went to her mums en suite before going back to bed.
She quickly fell back to sleep, however woke up early the next morning.
Rachel woke up around 7 because she knew she had to get Jess and depending on how she was feeling Olivia, ready for school
"Morning liv" Rachel said
"Mum I still feel sick"
"You don't look poorly, you look a lot better after a good sleep" Rachel said
"No I feel really unwell"
"Hmm you don't have a temperature, you haven't been sick and you don't look unwell, I think you're going to be fine for school today" Rachel said
"No mum, i can't go in" Olivia said sounding really worried and upset all of a sudden
"Liv I can't keep you off school if there's nothing really the matter with you"
"Please mum, please don't make me go in today I really am Ill, please let me stay home" Olivia begged tears starting to form in her eyes
Rachel thought for a moment trying to decide what the best thing to do was, she was almost certain there wasn't much wrong with Olivia however if she was this upset by the idea of going in Rachel knew there must be something going on and knowing Olivia the last thing she would want to do Is go back to school as she was never very good at facing her problems when no one knew about them, so thought if she gave her the day off she'd be able to get to the bottom of it and sort it out before Monday.
"Right but if I keep you off today, you're to stay in bed most of the day and if you're all lively and it becomes clear there's nothing wrong with you, then I'll be driving back to school"
Olivia was so glad her mum had agreed to let her have today off, as it meant she had the weekend to relax
Rachel went into Jess's room and quickly got her ready and despite a lot of protesting from Jess eventually she managed to get her in the car so they could go to school, she'd left Katie in charge of Olivia, thinking they'd both be fine after all Olivia was still in bed and she would only be gone 10 minutes
Olivia was in her mums bed still as it was so nice and cosy In there and she loved having it all to herself as it was so big, she'd been fine for a while but now she couldn't stop thinking about everything and this made her really upset and she started crying again.
Katie was going across the landing as she wanted to get a towel out the airing cupboard, because she was about to go in the showier how err there wasn't any towels in the bathroom. However she stopped when she saw Olivia in Rachel's bed crying her eyes out
"What's wrong Olivia?" Katie asked
Olivia didn't say anything just continued to cry
Katie hoped Rachel would hurry up as she didn't really know what to say or do to make Olivia feel any better.
A couple of minutes later Katie heard Rachel come in
"Rachel" Katie called
Rachel heard Katie shouting so ran up to her bedroom
"Oh liv" Rachel sighed when she saw Olivia crying into one of the pillows
Rachel went straight over and put Olivia on her knee again like she had done last night
"What on earths happened huh? What's got you this upset"
Olivia continued to cry into her mum
"Katie thanks for keeping an eye on her, would you just give me a bit of time with her love" Rachel asked knowing full well that Olivia would be far less likely to say what's bothering her if later was there.
Katie got up and left and Rachel continued to sooth Olivia
"Darling be honest with me and I'm not going to be cross, is this all because you feel poorly"
"No" Olivia sobbed
"Okay" Rachel said gently as she stoked Olivia's hair "so when I got a call yesterday it wasn't just because you were feeling sick"
"No" Olivia admitted praying her mum wasn't going to go mad "I'm sorry"
"That's okay Olivia, I think we've all done it before, but it's really not like you" Rachel Said "I know sometimes when you're as upset as all this ... Well it's easier just to run away from the problem isn't it, but whatever this is I'm sure it's not half as bad as you think it is I promise"
"It is" Olivia mumbled
"No darling it seems that way now but I'm almost certain it won't be that bad" Rachel whispered
"You're going to be mad and really angry with me" Olivia cried feeling sick at the thought of having to tell her mum
"Come on surely after all this time you know me better than that, I promise I'm not going to get angry"
"Really you promise you won't get mad"
"Hand on heart I won't"
Olivia tried to calm herself down a bit before facing her mum
"Mum you know you always say I'm really clever and everything"
"Yes" Rachel said wondering where this was leading
"Well the thing is I'm not anymore, and last week when we had that supply teacher we had to do this test and they said it was really important and they were going to ring home if we did bad, but then i opened it and I couldn't do anything" Olivia sobbed
"Liv I'm sure you did better than you thought"
"No I didn't mum honestly we got them back the next day and I only got ...I only got 2 questions right and it was out of 30 and I've been scared all week they were going to call and all the other girls were making fun of me, but then yesterday we found out we were going to have another test one yesterday and one today and I..." Olivia said however she couldn't finish her sentence because she was crying so much
Rachel sighed and wrapped her arms round her daughter even tighter
"Oh liv, what am I going to do with you, how many times have we talked about not bottling things up"
Olivia continued to cry into her mum
"Mum are you really angry"
"Olivia why would I be mad? I think you're a very silly girl for getting so worked up and you certainly should have told me about it sooner"
"But I did so bad" Olivia cried
"Liv it really doesn't matter it was one test, that will probably be never be looked at again and is no doubt in the bin by now, I don't care how well or how badly you do as long as you try your best" Rachel said
"But I'm clever normally and now I can't do anything, what if I have to go into the special group like Jess"
"Darling there not going to do that after one test are they? I'm sure it was a one off"
"Mum it's not, I can't do anything any more"
Olivia then started crying all over again so Rachel tried to sooth her
"Darling you need to learn not to get yourself so upset about things, honestly you're going to make yourself Ill getting so worried all the time, and I know that you think I'm going to be cross with you but liv if something happens that's not really in your control or that you can't help, I'm never ever going to be mad with you, I'm here to help that's all" Rachel said "and yeah if you do something a bit naughty I am going to tell you off, but have I ever got really cross and scary"
Olivia shook her head
"I just didn't want to disappoint you"
"You'd never do that love, so do you think It was just a one off or are you just finding school hard at the moment, because that does sometimes happen you know"
"Everything looks weird when I look at it, and I can't work out what it's saying anymore"

Rachel thought for a moment before saying "come with me a sec"
Olivia was a little confused but followed her mum out anyway
Rachel walked through to Olivia's room and grabbed one of her books
"Right read the first page of this to me" she ordered
Olivia took hold of it and tried to read but Rachel noticed how close she was holding the book to her face and how much she was squinting
"Darling no wonder you've been finding it hard, looks like we need to get you booked into an opticians soon as"
"Is that the people that give you glasses"
"Yeah that's right love"
"I don't want to wear glasses" Olivia said "what if I look funny"
"I'm sure you won't and anyway you'll only need the, for reading" Rachel said "honestly why didn't you tell me about all this before then I would have been able to help"
"Do out think that supply teacher will tell mrs Jackson about that test" Olivia asked
"To be honest if she was going to she would have hold her before now, but I will have a little chat with her and explain what's been going on okay"
"Do you have to"
"It's for the best darling really it is"
"Okay" Olivia sighed "mum are you going to make me go back to school today"
Rachel sighed she knew it wasn't right to keep Olivia off when she knew there was nothing wrong with her, however she also knew that Olivia could probably do with a reading day at home without any worries after the week she'd had
"I really should make you go back" Rachel said "but just this once ... And I really do mean just this once Olivia, I'm going to let you stay home just so I can sort out an opticians appointment"
"Thanks you're the best mum ever" Olivia said wrapping her arms around her mum
"Yeah yeah whatever" Rachel said however she gave her a hug all the same.
They finished up having a very nice day off and Rachel managed to get Olivia an opticians appointment for the next day.
