Sine Whitney called in a panic, I jumped up out of bed and hobbled my way to Teddy's room using my crutches to push the door open.
"Teddy!" I yelled.
He was still in the shower and probably couldn't hear me, so I did what I always do, I busted into the bathroom.
Just like every other time before Teddy was standing under the spray with his back to me.
"Teddy! Whitney called."
He turned around and gave me a look, "Jesus El, I thought we talked about busting in on people in the shower," he laughed.
"Didn't you hear me?! Whitney is having the baby! We have to go, she at Grace's alone and she's freaking out."
He heard that and quickly rinsed out the rest of the shampoo from his hair. I turned and grabbed the white towel off of the rack and handed it to him as he stepped out of the steam.
"I'll go call your parents and tell them," I said turning for the door.
Once I was in Teddy's room I sat down on his desk chair and pulled out my cell from my jeans pocket. I called Ana, then Christian, and even Phoebe trying to get everyone the news before anything else happened.
Christian told us to head to the hospital and that Taylor would be picking up Whitney since he was already on his way to drop off some boxes at Grace's anyways. Jumping into Teddy's car we sped off towards the hospital that I had just been picked up from after my car accident.
Teddy grabbed my hand and squeezed it, "Are you nervous?" I asked.
I nodded keeping his eyes on the road, "Nervous, excited; I'm everything right now."
We sat in silence after that and in fifteen minutes we pulled into the parking garage of the hospital.
SEVEN HOURS LATER:
Whitney was in full blown labor and I was sure I would never go back into that room again—I think it was better for Teddy and I if I wasn't getting a first hand look at her 'miracle of life'.
Sitting in the waiting room, I had already read through just about every magazine they had and was beginning to work on old surgical journals I found at the nurses station.
"Ellie?"
I turned to see Mrs. Grey—Ana—coming towards me. She was dressed in a casual dress and heels carrying a large weekend bag and her coat.
"Hey, Mrs. Grey," I answered moving my crutches out of the way from the seat next to me.
She sat down next to me, "So how's she doing?"
I nodded towards the door, "Oh I'm not going in there. It's like an Iraqi war zone—too much screaming and yelling."
She laughed, "Yeah that's typical, well I should bring Teddy his clothes," she said pointed to the large bag, "Phoebe's so upset she's at cheer camp and missing this."
"I bet she's trying to talk one of the boys into stealing the bus for her." I laughed.
Ana smiled, "She'll steal the bus herself if she has to."
"Very true," we both laughed.
Ana sat up and patted me on the knee, "You should go get something to eat downstairs, and it'll probably be a while before anything really major starts to happen."
She stood up and took her things with her and headed into the room where Whitney and Teddy were waiting.
I made my way to the elevator and decided on getting coffee at the Starbucks kiosk instead of the tar they tried to pass off as coffee in the cafeteria.
I had just finished putting the creamer in my coffee and stirring it when I felt someone put their hand on my arm.
"How are you holding up?"
I turned around to see Cassidy's mother standing next to me. Her dark hair was pulling into a French twist and she was dressed like her usual high fashion self.
"I should be asking you that," I said looking down at my coffee.
She frowned then pulled herself together holding her purse tighter to herself, "Have you been here the whole time?"
I shook my head, "No they let me go home two days go, but Whitney is having her baby so we all came back," I explained.
"Ah, I remember Cassidy telling me about her. This must be difficult for you."
I shrugged, "It's alright at this point, I've tried to make my peace with it."
Her phone rang and she flipped it open, "Hey honey, one second," she held her hand over the receiver and looked at me, "Well I'm happy you're alright, I'll see you around, Ellie." She said hugging me lightly and then turned to wards the exit.
I got back on the elevator and headed up to the forth floor where Whitey and Teddy were.
Just as I was exiting the elevator there was a rush of people yelling and shouting as a gurney was pushed by; I caught a glimpse of blonde hair.
I turned to find Ana with her hand over her mouth standing in the doorway and Teddy coming up behind her.
"What's going on?" I asked.
Ana cleared her throat, "Her blood pressure is dropping and it's putting the baby in danger, so they're taking her for an emergency C-section."
I turned to Teddy and he came up to me putting his arm around my shoulder, "It'll all be fine, Whitney and that little guy will be just fine."
He nodded but didn't say anything. Ana went to meet Christian downstairs and I sat with Teddy in Whitney's room waiting for the doctor's to tell us how it's going.
Fifteen minutes later Christian came in and we all made small talk just trying to pass the time. We all sat in the room, I in Teddy's lap, and Ana next to Christian on the loveseat they had—this was Christian Grey's grandkid after all, we were in the VIP wing.
Twenty long minutes later a doctor came in wearing the typical dark green scrubs and a scrub cap.
"Hi I'm Doctor Telford, I was the doctor for Whitney."
Christian and Ana were the first to stand up and went over to her.
"Is everyone okay?" he asked.
Doctor Telford was a petite and brunet from what I could tell—small strands were coming loose from her cap—and was dwarfed by Christian's tall frame.
She looked down at her hands and back up, "The baby is fine, he was taken into the NICU for monitoring, just overnight as a precaution. My best guess is that by tomorrow morning he will be out and able to go home."
Teddy let out a deep breath and we all felt a sense of relief that the baby was okay.
"What about Whitney?" Teddy asked.
We were now standing by Ana and I was leaning on Teddy and my crutches.
She looked down again, "Whitney suffered a massive hemorrhage. I'm sorry but we tried everything we could. She lost too much blood even after multiple transfusions. We pronounced her ten minutes ago."
