I run to the edge on the building, and I see Tris once more, until she shrinks into nothing.
Zeke looks at me. "I was gonna let Uriah go, but you can go next."
Uriah punches Zeke's shoulder. I nod instantly, not turning down the option to be in someone else's place.
I looked back at the line. It wasn't very long, but I didn't care.
He tied me in the sling and smiled.
"Okay, err...I never quite caught your name." Said Zeke. Marlene peeked over from somebody's shoulder in the line. "It's Peter." She said, grinning at Zeke. He grinned back at her. "I'm sure the guy can speak for himself." He said. "He is from Candor after all."
I raise and eyebrow at him. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Zeke scratched the back of his head. "Well Candor's are kinda...loud mouthed." He said the last part under his breathed. I shrugged my shoulders. I couldn't argue with that. He grinned. "On three."
"One, two, thre-"
I didn't hear him say the last number. I was already gliding.
At first the only thing I could think about was going 'splat!' just as Zeke said. But I calmed down as soon as I saw Candor Headquarters again. I didn't see my house, but it was close enough.
It became harder to calm down when it passed, because I couldn't slow down my heart rate by breathing. The wind was coming at my face, and not a lot of it was escaping.
I tried to enjoy the ride as much as I could before it ended. Even though, I couldn't tell where it ended.
I opened my arms out, like Tris, and smiled brightly. I considering the idea of me swallowing a bug, so I stopped.
I was not enjoying it to much. Tears came to my eyes as the wind came rushing into them. My eyes stung even more when I dropped.
My stomach flipped.
I just dropped.
I held my breath and closed my eyes, waiting for the impact to come. Instead, I was still on the ride, I was still zooming forward, only this time slower. I sighed. The drop was apart of the ride.
I enjoyed the ride while it was slow. Surely, it would speed up. My hand touches something soft, and I realize that it was the air. I can't help laughing at myself.
I take this time to calm my breathing, and before I know it, I'm speeding up again. This time, I enjoy it, pumping my fist into the air. I take in the city below me. I see tiny things moving and I realize that they were people. This excites me more.
I laugh loudly and kick my feet around. This was too fun.
I wave down at the people and soon my laughing becomes uncontrollable.
Another drop. This time I was ready. I smile as the people on the ground get bigger.
It isn't the wind, but my laughing that bring tears to my eyes.
I yell with joy, but my laughter that interrupts it.
When I drop, my hands go in the air. "Wooo!" I yell loudly, making sure that every faction can hear me. I yell louder.
My laughter takes control again. As I get closer to the ground, the people get closer, and I see that they are cheering. I clap along until I realize that they are clapping for me. I instantly stop.
In the distance, I see Tris. She's one on the many people who applaud me from the ground.
I smile at her in particular. She smiles back at me and gives me a wink.
They ride must becoming to an end because I see the Dauntless members form a net with their hands.
"Drop!" They tell me.
I don't hesitate, even when I picture slamming the pavement. Hard. I fiddle with the sling and before I know it, I fall.
Arms catch me, as I am lifted to my feet.
I'm shaking uncontrollably. A hand steadies me. It's Tris's.
"Scary, huh?" Someone says, slapping me on the back. I nod my head, not thinking clearly. The truth was, I wasn't shaking out of fear, but out of pure adrenaline.
I turn to Tris and didn't hesitate to tell her, "I want to go again."
She smiles at me. "Don't we all."
Tris and I were back at the dorm. It was lunchtime so it was empty.
I looked her in the eye. "Tell me about what happened at the Erudite Headquarters."
She sighed and nodded. "I think the Erudite are planning something."
I nodded, urging her on.
"Something against my old faction." As soon as she says this, my stomach drops.
I've heard the rumors about the Abnegation keeping the food for themselves, although it should have been going to the factionless.
As a Candor, I had believed in that nonsense. I'm now positive that it isn't true.
It couldn't be true.
I sat on my bed and pulled her onto my lap. I felt her sigh and stroked her hair gently.
Her stomach growled.
We pulled away at the same time.
"You can go eat." I said, releasing her hand.
She groaned and pulled me close again. "I don't wanna eat." She said, looking me in the eye. "I wanna stay with you."
I grinned at her. "I'll go with you."
She smiled brightly and we headed back outside.
"Know any nearby cafe's?" I asked her, looking down at her.
She shook her head and shrugged. "Let's go to anyone of them." She said, raking through her hair. "I don't care as long as I get to eat with you." She said, looking at me. I pecked her on the lips as we continued walking on the cross walk. I pick out a nearby self serve restaurant. Before we enter, I see somebody on the corner of the building.
It was Winter, smoking a cigar.
