Cloak and Dagger

This was it. Everything came down to this moment. If things didn't go perfectly, things would unravel and unravel fast. This is what was on Nate and Vergil's mind as they entered Nocturne's domain. Nate once more donned his dark sunglasses to hide his eyes. He had Vergil restrained in his arms, forcefully holding his brother's arm behind him.

Nate pushed Vergil forward hard, and he hit the ground. "Don't make a fucking sound." He said in a deep and eerie voice.

Elena looked up to see Nate and Vergil. Vergil had fallen beside her with a thud. "Vergil?" she said in horror. She shifted her gaze to her husband. "Nate?" she asked in a soft voice.

Nate didn't answer her. He walked up to where she was behind restrained and began to chain Vergil up beside her. He was cold and silent, her presence not seeming to phase her in the slightest. When he saw that Vergil was resisting, he kicked him hard in the stomach.

"Nate, stop this!" Elena screamed.

Nate continued to ignore her and brought Vergil's arms above his head and began to detain him.

Elena was horrified, she knew this was none other than the evil Nate and now she and Vergil both had been captured. "Please, Nate..." she whimpered, feeling herself start to cry. She couldn't bare seeing him like this anymore. "I'm begging you...stop all this and come back to me." she said.

Nate whipped his head over to her. From an outside view it looked as if her grabbed her hard by the throat. Elena braced herself and was stunned when she saw he wasn't actually using force. Elena shuddered in fear and looked up. He was looking down at her through his sunglasses. His eyes were the kindest she had ever seen him.

Nate brought his head closer to hers to make it look like he was threatening her. But the words hitting her ears were ones she was familiar with.

"My love for you won't end because my life does." he said to her in a low, secretive voice.

Elena let out a small gasp, trying her best to try and conceal it. She knew that this was her husband and he had finally regained his memory.

"The day you gave me this ring and I gave you mine—that's when our forever started." Nate went on.

Elena felt herself smile. "Forever it is, then." she concluded for him. These words were forever ones she would keep close to her heart, for they were none other than her and Nate's wedding vows to one another.

Elena looked over to Vergil, who gave her a slight nod as if to say—go with whatever he says.

"I'll ask you this once." Nate said back in his fake evil voice. "Where is the chalice?"

Elena hedged for a moment, she had no idea how to respond to this question. She felt Nate tap her should with something. It was a small piece of paper that read "Act as if you're resisting".

Elena looked once more to Vergil and he nodded at her.

"Tell me!" Nate yelled at her acting as if he was wanting to hurt her. His gun clicked, ready to fire.

Elena played along as best she could. "I'll never tell you." she said in a deep, enraged voice. "Not until you give me back my husband."

Nate began to shake with fury and he fired the gun—right next to Elena's head. Not for one moment did she think he would really kill her. Things seemed to be going right.

"Now, now that's enough, Nathan." Nocturne said in a calm voice, emerging from the shadows. Nate, Elena and Vergil all felt their bodies stiffen. They had no idea if this was going to work. Since Nocturne was blind, their act should have worked out without flaw. Everything sounded real as it could. The sunglasses were a precaution. What if Nocturne was able to sense his eyes weren't the color of evil he wanted them to be. If there were some sort of wave sent off for him to know he was still under his control, their plan would be over before it even began.

"No need to be so hostile with our new guests." Nocturne continued from his previous statement.

Nate just looked furious. "I have to be hostile. She won't tell me anything." he said.

Nocturne folded his arms and looked over to Vergil's direction. "She may not tell you anything...but what about him?" he asked.

Nate smirked and shook his head. "That chicken shit? I've already tried to get the information out of him but he refuses to answer."

A stern look came across Nocturne's face. "Then kill him." he said simply.

Nate felt a harsh gasp inside. He felt paralyzed at the moment.

"I can sense his heart beating so I'll know he's really dead." Nocturne said to him with a dark look on his face. "Go ahead, Nathan. Kill that 'chicken shit'."

A moment of silence fell over the room after Nocturne's request. "What's the matter?" he asked. "You're my pawn right? You should follow orders without hesitation. I wonder...why is it your heart rate that's rising?"

Nate felt his hands shaking, he hadn't planned on Nocturne having this little skill. Thinking as quickly as he could he turned the gun to Nocturne, who didn't even flinch. He just used his power that he had to make Nathan his real puppet once more.

Nate felt that horrible sensation in his head again, it was at it's most unbearable. "God...dammit..." he winced, hitting his knees.

Nocturne walked over to his writhing body. He grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him back up onto his feet. "I let you live through all this and you defy me!?" he screamed at him and did a spin kick that hurled Nate across the room. He made contact with the wall and then hit the floor again. Nocturne just looked down to him. "You disappoint me, Nathan." he said with disdain.

Nate tried to push himself forward. The blow made him breathless and cough a few times. "Come on, Ollie." he said in a strained voice. "This isn't what you want."

Nocturne stood up quickly in shock. His disposition went to that of panic. "W-what did you just call me?"

Nate forced himself to sit up against the wall. The wind was knocked out of him so his words came slowly. "We were...what? Five or six then? I gave you a small stuffed dog I named Roscoe. It...didn't have eyes and...I told you that he couldn't see like you." Nate paused to take a few deep breaths. "You became my friend that day, Ollie...and despite all that's happened—you still are. I'm...so sorry about your mother."

Oliver just let out a shuddered cry and his eyes began to fill with tears.

Nate felt himself slipping out of consciousness. "That day...you lost your mother but, Vergil and I...we lost ours too. Best we can do is...live for them now." Nate ripped the sunglasses from his eyes. "You're strong, Ollie. You'll make it...through." he finished. As his words ceased, Nate passed out.

Vergil and Elena knew he was only knocked out. It was then Vergil stopped feigning being chained to the wall and walked over to Nocturne, who had his head in his hands and was sobbing hard. He slammed his hands down hard onto the ground, the earth beneath him even gave a little.

Vergil released Elena from her binds and then made his way over to Nocturne. Vergil motioned to Elena to remain where she was and he would handle things. She wanted to go to Nate, but he was fine and the situation was still far too fragile.

Oliver's cries filled the room for a while before he was able to get words out. "I...never wanted that god damn chalice."

Both Vergil and Elena's eyes narrowed at this. "Then...why did you do all this?" Elena asked him.

Oliver stood slowly and walked across the room to where Roscoe was and picked him up. "I just...needed someone to blame. Someone to take my pain out on. I couldn't save her...so I needed to avenge her somehow." Oliver just clutched the small stuffed dog in his hand. "It gave me a reason to go on. But now..." he began and cried harder. "What would she think of me?"

Vergil approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "She'd tell you to start over." he assured him. "There are so many things you can find to live for. Mine are my wife and daughter. And Nate and Elena live for one another. You'll find another reason to keep going—even if it hasn't shown itself yet."

Vergil just extended his hand to Oliver. "Make this the day your start a new life. I worked for a terrible person in my past and I can't undo that but now I have a family and they're the ones who saved my life. Please, Oliver..."

Oliver looked up from his tears and went out to take his hand. Just before it made contact Vergil let out a sharp pained cry. Oliver felt his breath come faster and faster. He smelled an entire pool of Vergil's blood. He put his hand on Vergil's chest and felt something jutting out of it.

There Nate was, thrusting the dagger Chloe had through his chest, his eyes glowing a deep crimson color. He smirked as he yanked the blade from his brother's body.

Oliver's eyes went wide in horror. He had given his pawn an order before and he had carried it out. "Damn it!" he roared, teleporting before Nate and pinning him to the wall.

"No!" Elena shrieked. "Nate! Vergil!"

Nate chuckled as his back made contact with the wall. Oliver still had a hold on him. "I'm sorry, Nathan—this is going to hurt." he said, letting out another horrible shriek, this time it was in another octave—meant to free Nate from his control. This time it even pained Elena and Vergil a little.

Nate screamed loudly and fought to resist. He brought the blade up once more. Nate fought to try and make Oliver meet the same fate as his brother.

Oliver sighed. "I'm ready to pay for my sins." he said in a saddened voice. In a split second of silence, before Nate was released, the blade went through Oliver's stomach. Before he hit the ground he was able to utter one sentence.

"Be free."
