Chapter Twenty One: Evolin and Skeeter

"Last time on Familiar Fairy. Our battle with Soulless Void came to an end but not without harm. Wendy was staying over at Porlyusica's house. Chelia is there with her as well as Charla. Before we knew it, a woman entered the guild and revealed herself to be Marolin?! Not technically true as we later found out she was called Evolin and has a cat of her own called Skeeter. For some strange reason, she was looking for Marolin who was a part of Soulless Void. After we told her about what we knew, she stormed off from the guild. There were more questions than answers about her and we plan find the answers to all of those questions."

Louise P.O.V

It's been quite some time since Evolin and her cat Skeeter had entered the guild hall and asked about the whereabouts of her sister Marolin who so happens to be part of a dark guild that tried to kidnap me. At first we left it alone at that but Natsu had the insane idea of following her because he had more question to ask. I must admit I am also quite curious to find out more about this woman and what her goal is for finding Marolin.

Right now we are traveling through Magnolia Forest with Natsu ahead with Happy flying beside him. Behind them are myself, Lucy, Gray, Erza, surprisingly the rebel and Lily. I guess the rebel wanted to know more about Evolin as well. I saw Natsu sniff the air once again as he was tracking her by scent. ""We're close. This way."

We followed him to yet another change in direction. This was becoming tedious. "That's what you said half an hour ago." I agree with Gray. We have been this route for quite a while. What I'm wondering about is why is she so far away from the town? Couldn't she have checked into a hotel or something?

"He really wants to meet that dragon slayer huh?" That's an understatement Lucy.

"I can understand that. What I want to know is why she is looking for a person who is part of a dark guild." I share the same question with Erza.

We traveled a bit further into the forest to find Evolin. All of a sudden Natsu stopped to sniff the air again. He ran off in a random direction and we followed suit to keep up with him. After a few minutes of running, he stopped by a couple of bushes and crouched down. We did the same and all of us peeked through the leaves to see Evolin by a stream with a campfire. Why is camping out here? Couldn't she afford a room? Suddenly we all heard her scream "Ahh damn it!" We saw her walk up to a tree nearby her and punched it. The result of that was that it left a rather large dent. "Damn it Marolin."

We saw her flying cat go up to her. "Whoa easy there babe. Just calm down for a bit."

It appeared what he said didn't please this woman as she glared at the cat angrily. "How the hell can I calm down?! We just learned Marolin is in a dark guild. A dark guild Skeeter! I knew she was going down the wrong path but this!? I just…" I heard her sigh in frustration. "We were so close this time."

We saw her walk over to the fire and sat down near it. Her cat followed closely and sat down next to her. "Hey hey hey. We can't give up now. So we hit a block this time. That didn't stop us before and it's not going to stop us now." For a cat that's supposed to be a pervert, he is quite insightful.

It seemed his words calmed the woman down a little. "Guess you're right on that. At least we know the name of the guild she's in. Soulless Void. Once we get enough money, we'll ask around to see where it is. In the meantime…" We saw her wave her arm at our direction and a single diamond shard came straight at us. The shard passed between Lucy and I and it was embedded deep into the tree behind us. "You can quit hiding now. I heard those bushes rustle." Well we were caught. Might as well show ourselves. All of us emerged from the bushes. Evolin smiled at us. "I thought those scents were familiar. I'm guessing all of you have more questions for me?"

All of nodded at the question. "We are and our first question is why are you looking for this Marolin woman?" Leave it to Lily to start us off.

I heard Evolin chuckle at the question. "Well I owe you all that much. I guess I should've explained myself." Yes you should've. We heard her sigh. "Well by now you all must've figured out that Marolin is my twin sister." Well that much is obvious. We discovered that fact a bit after she left the guild. That kinda surprised Natsu and Happy though. "And she's my younger sister."

Speaking of surprises, all of us stood silent when we heard that detail. "Marolin is your younger sister?!" I heard Natsu scream.

"You're the older sister?!" And of course Happy follows. Still that did catch us off guard by this. Normally in stories, it's the elder sibling that goes off to the dark path and it's the younger sibling to stop him/her but that's not the case here. This however this is quite a twist.

I heard Evolin giggle at their reactions. "Yeah surprising huh?" that's a bit of an understatement. I supposes at one time this cat next to her also belong to Marolin as well. "Not to change to the subject or anything but I was about to do something before you all came along."

I raised an eyebrow as I was curious what she meant by that. "Do what?" I heard Gray ask.

"Taking my bath." Did she just bluntly tell us that?!

"Wait you're going to take a bath in a stream? Don't you have some money to afford a room?" That was a question I've asked myself Lucy.

We saw both her and the cat shake their heads. "If we did have some cash left, we wouldn't be camping out in the forest. We used the last of it to get to this place." Evolin explained to us.

"By foot or by train?" I heard Erza ask them.

"We took the train to the closest town near here." The cat responded to the question.

We heard Evolin groan at that. "Please don't remind me of that."

I saw the cat turn to her. ""Aw come on babe. It wasn't that bad."

Evolin glared turned to the cat and glared angrily at him. "Says you! You didn't have to suffer five agonizing hours of not trying to throw up while being on that damn thing!" So Evolin does suffer from motion sickness the same as Natsu and the rebel. Yep she's most definitely a dragon slayer. We heard her sigh. "Look just come back in like half an hour or so and I'll tell you everything."

As generous as that offer is, we just couldn't leave her here. That is until I had a strange thought. "I think I may have an idea." Everyone looked at me. As good as this idea is, I'm not going to like it.

B

When I first heard of a public bathhouse, I thought who would be inane enough to take a bath with complete random strangers? Yes there was a large bathhouse back at the academy but that was private. And yet here I am taking a bath in said bathhouse. I hear Lucy stretch in delight. "This is a really great idea Louise." I saw her smile at me.

"I agree." I turned to Erza who was wiping her face with a small towel. "This is a fine idea indeed."

Allow me to explain. I suggested we should all go the bathhouse and invite Evolin and her cat to join. This way she would enjoy a proper bath along with telling us everything she knew. The only down side is that I get the displeasure to see the sizes of Lucy's and Erza's breasts. They make me very insecure about my own chest. We went ahead into the bath while Evolin was preparing to join us. "For some reason she acted a bit nervous. As for the boys, they're in a separate room. Hopefully that cat won't peek on us if he knows what's good for him. All of us paid and I paid for Evolin's and Skeeter's admission. We all heard a knock on the door. "All right I'm coming in. I'm kinda embarrassed to tell the truth." What does she have to be embarrassed about? Has she not taken a bath with other girls before? We saw the door slide open (seriously what door slides open?) and we saw Evolin walk in.

We all gasped quietly at what we saw. Evolin's body was covered in countless scars. How in the world could she be smiling when her body looks like that? "I have to admit this is the first time I've been to a place like this." We continued to stare at her body. I however was looking at her breasts. Well more accurately the large diagonal scar that was above her breasts. That stood out the most for me. I saw her walk up to the one of those small chairs and sat on it. She turned on the one of the shower heads. Evolin put the shower head over her own head and the water cascaded down her body. We heard her sigh in pleasure. "Now this is heaven." She turned her head to me. "Thanks for the invite…uh….sorry but I didn't get your name."

Of course. "It's Louise."

I heard her chuckle. "Right. Thanks Louise. Can you help me scrub my back?" An odd request but I'll comply. I exited out of the bathtub and walked over to her. I picked up a loofah nearby while Evolin applied shampoo to her hair. I looked at her back and that too was covered in scars. Some of them looked like they were caused by a whip. What in the world happened to this woman? I started to scrub her back. As I was doing so, I noticed something through the scrubbing. Her skin felt rough and hard, like it was exposed to the outside elements for a very long time. ""What? You were expecting soft smooth skin or something?" I heard her chuckle. "I'm afraid I don't have that luxury anymore." I saw her wash off her hair of the shampoo and turned the shower head off. She stood up in front of me. "Thanks for the back scrubbing." Evolin walked past me and headed toward the bathtub. I followed and we both entered the bathtub. I heard her sigh in relief. "Now this feels good. Totally beats all those times I had to bathe in rivers and lakes." All three of us continued to stare at this woman. "If you're going to ask about them then ask."

We all looked away. "We're sorry. We didn't mean to stare so much." Well how can we not? You just don't meet a person whose body is scarred almost all over.

I saw Evolin turn to Lucy. "Nah it's all right. I knew these would draw attention."

"How did you receive so many?" I heard Erza ask.

We heard her giggle at the question. "Well this is what happens when you travel on the road for fourteen years." She's been traveling for that long?! "I guess I should start explaining myself huh?" We heard take in a deep breath. "You see a long time ago, Marolin and I were adopted by the diamond dragon Diaranga. We used to call him papa all the time. He taught us pretty much everything from reading to culture. He's also the one that taught us diamond dragon slayer magic." We heard her give a small chuckle. "One of the best things about our papa is that he always likes to tell lame jokes but we still laughed at them." We heard her slightly laugh more. I wonder how many times she remembered these memories of her father figure. "We thought those times would last forever." Suddenly her smile turned into a frown. "However that proved not to be true as that day came. In the year X777, our papa just vanished without a trace or explanation." So her dragon's disappearance is the same as Natsu's and the others.

"That was also the day Marolin changed as well. At first I didn't notice because we agreed to find our papa. However as time went on, I saw changes in her behavior. Things she wouldn't normally do. Soon after we started to have arguments about papa. She claimed that he abandoned us while I thought there must've been a reason why he disappeared. We kept going at it for a couple of years. Then something came we both didn't expect." We saw her smile again. "The first time we met Skeeter."

B

Third Person P.O.V

Skeeter let out a long joyful sigh as he floated in the bath water. "Ahh this is what I'm talking about. A cat could get used to this. I got thank that pink haired dame for the paying."

Along with him in the bath were Gray, Natsu, Happy, Gajeel, and Lily. "Skeeter was it? If you don't mind, I would like to ask you a question." Lily asked

The orange fur exceed turned to him. "Go ahead and shoot."

Lily nodded at the confirmation. "Earlier today you mentioned that you thought you were the only talking cat. Is it possible you never met another exceed before us?"

Skeeter nodded back. "Well if you mean meeting other flying talking cats, you two mooks are the first ones I've met. Hell I'm surprised to meet another one that can change his size."

Happy raised his paw. "So you never met any of the other exceed from Edolas?"

The other exceed shook his head. "Not that I know of. Me and Evolin don't stay in a place for too long so news like that doesn't reach us. Still hard to believe to know what I really am. Then again I knew it was kinda weird how I'm a flying talking cat."

Everyone thought how much this cat didn't know about himself or the world he came from. "There's something I don't get." Gray spoke. "How does an exceed like you end up with two dragon slayers?"

That was a question Happy also thought of. "Yeah. How did you meet both Evolin and Marolin?"

As soon as Natsu heard Marolin's name, he became quite mad and the water started to boil for a bit. "Hey this a bathtub not a cooking pot!" Gajeel yelled at him.

Skeeter heard what the iron dragon slayer said. "Funny you should mention that because the first time I met both of them, they tried to make an omelet outta me. I hatched right before I got cooked real good." Skeeter explained.

Natsu calmed down and looked at the exceed. "So if you know both of them, do you know some things about Marolin?"

"Yeah like why she doesn't like her dragon?" Happy added.

Skeeter looked down at the bath water. "Well I can tell you this. Evolin and Marolin would get into a couple of arguments about their dragon. Marolin kept saying how he didn't love them in the first place and abandoned them because he was bored with them. Evolin kept saying there must've been a reason why he just went up and disappeared. Every day I heard the same arguments. They even fought each other a couple of times. I tried to be the cat in the middle but that didn't work out so well. Then one day, out of nowhere Marolin was just gone without a trace. Didn't even leave a note. Evolin tried to pick out her scent but came up with nothing figuring her sister covered it up so she wouldn't want to be found."

"Evolin took her sister's leaving hard. She blamed herself for not being a better older sister. She always had this idea that it was the older sibling's job to protect their younger siblings and thought she failed as an older sister. That's when Evolin decided she'll try her hardest to both her old man and her sister and make things right with Marolin. It took us seven years but we managed to track down and find Marolin. However that reunion didn't go as well as we thought."

Everyone wanted to know what happened between the two sisters. "What happened?" Natsu asked.

Skeeter looked at everyone with a serious look on his face. "Marolin almost killed Evolin."

B

Louise P.O.V

Well that was an interesting way of a first meeting. So she and Marolin tried the cook the egg that Skeeter hatched out of. How are cats hatched out of eggs in the first place? I shook my head. I should stop asking myself questions like that. I sighted and my eyes went back to the scar above Evolin's breasts. How did she receive such a scar like that? I heard her laugh. What was funny to her? "Yeah I know they're large but sometimes they can be a pain."

My face went flush as I looked away in embarrassment. "No wait you misunderstand! I-"

"Hey I get it. There's no shame being into other girls. In fact during my travels, a few hit on me time to time." She is seriously misreading the situation! "I mean look at these two here." She pointed at both Erza and Lucy. Wait what?!

"Wait what?!" Lucy read my mind. "You totally got the wrong idea!"

"Yes you've seem to have misunderstood. Lucy and I are not together." Well that much is obvious.

I saw Evolin look back and forth between them and laughed in embarrassment. "Sorry about that. It's just you two kinda pull off a couple look."

Ok how would they make a couple? Come to think it, I noticed some people pair Lucy with different people. Most are Natsu, Gray (Juvia probably really doesn't like that.), her spirit Loke (How does that even work?) and now Erza. Where do they get these ideas? Why are we still talking about this? I have to switch the topic quick. "I was looking at the scar above your chest!"

Everyone looked at me when I said that. I swear I felt my face grow redder. I saw Evolin smile softly as she traced that scar gently with her fingers. "If you want to know about this one, I'll tell you. This scar was from Marolin herself." All of stared at the scar now. Her sister did that to her? "It was seven years ago when me and Skeeter finally found her after she disappeared seven years prior. We learned she was at a cliff with a waterfall running in front of it. Without thinking, I rushed over there. Like the lead said, I saw her standing near the end of the cliff looking at the waterfall. You wouldn't believe how happy I was seeing her again after a long time. I called out to her. As soon as I saw her turn around, that happiness instantly went away. Whatever happened those seven years we were apart, it changed her. Even the look in her eyes was darker. I tried to talk to Marolin but she wouldn't listen. In the next few minutes, we fought expect this fight was far different then our previous fights. Marolin was playing for keeps. She quickly overwhelmed me and my back was facing the end of the cliff. The last things I remember were Marolin using diamond dragon's Edge Blade and came at me fast. I stepped back once and the edge of the cliff broke off but not before I felt that sword cut at the spot where you see that scar today. I blacked out while falling and the only thing I heard was Skeeter calling out my name."

B

Third Person P.O.V

The guys back in the other bath couldn't believe what Skeeter told them about the twin's reunion. Natsu really didn't like how Marolin treated her family. "How can she do that to her own family?!"

Skeeter looked at the fire dragon slayer. "Seven years on your own can do things to kid. Marolin even said some stuff like not wanting to have anything to do with Evolin or their dragon." He sighed at the next part he was going tell. "After Evolin fell to the ravine below, I flew over to her fast as I can. Luckily I managed to catch her before she sunk below the water. Bad part was that I had to support her while she bleeding from that wound Marolin gave her and dealing with death rapids. I couldn't tell how long we were in that mess until the river calmed down and we ended up in a nearby village. I called them out for help and one of them looked after Evolin including me. She was out for two whole days and I didn't leave her side for even a second."

Happy thought of something. "Earlier Evolin said you're a pervert so I'm guessing you chase a lot of girls around too. You didn't do that while she was sleeping."

The other exceed looked at him angrily. "How can I be chasing tail knowing Evolin was hurt? Tell me this cat. If your friend was injured, what's more important to you? Fish or him?"

That question was a no brainer for Happy. "Natsu of course. Fish is tasty but he's my best friend." Natsu grinned at his friend's response.

Skeeter also nodded at the question. "You got that right. Even Evolin couldn't believe I stuck around with her even though there was a beautiful dame looking after her."

Lily noticed something about the other exceed. "It sounds like you cherish your friendship with her very much."

The orange fur exceed grinned at that. "Hell yeah! Me and Evolin, we've been through things thick and thin and here's something else you should know to prove how loyal I am to her. Even if there was a no towel policy bathhouse filled with the most beautiful dames in the world, if Evolin is in there then I refuse look at them."

That was some dedication the cat had. "Or maybe you don't peek because if Evolin finds out, she'll beat you up." Happy stated.

Skeeter laughed nervously. "It was only one time and on accident too! You do not want see that woman mad!"

B

Louise P.O.V

So it seems her cat isn't as bad as I thought. A pervert with morals. How surprising. Although I thought I heard her mumble saying "Except that one time." But that could be me. We heard her sigh. "After that, we hit the road again looking for Marolin. Another seven years past until we heard this one guild had several dragon slayers. I was happy for two things. I get to meet other dragon slayers and hopefully find something Marolin and that's how I ended up meeting all of you."

Well that was quite a tale she told us. However there were some questions we had. "And you're still looking for your sister even though she tried to kill you?" I heard Erza ask that question.

I was curious as to how Evolin would respond to that. "It's crazy I know but I'm not giving up. I still believe there's a way for me to get through to her. More than anything, I just want us to be a family again like we were before." These two women are complete opposites. One who despises their father and one who still adores him. I also question her of getting through to Marolin. How do you save someone that doesn't want to be saved? However I strike Evolin as a woman who makes it up as she goes.

"I have a question as well." I heard Lucy speak up. "If you've been traveling all this time, why haven't you joined a guild yet?" That's another good question. Evolin has been traveling for fourteen years. If she did join, her problems with money and shelter would've been wiped all together.

We saw her smile at the question. "Trust me I thought of joining a guild a lot of times. However joining a guild would also mean being tied down. No offense to you guild people but I can't join a guild. At least not yet. I still have to find Marolin. She may be in a dark guild but I still worry about her even knowing what she did to me last time we met. As soon as I find her and get through to her, then I'll join a guild. The only problem is finding this Soulless Void guild. It's not going to be easy but I don't have another choice."

Now this is chance I can take. "That's not necessarily true." I saw her look at me. Glad I have her interest. "The dark guild Marolin is in currently has an interest in me due to their guild master."

I saw her raise an eyebrow. "Why would a dark guild be interested in you?"

I raised my hand out of the water and showed her the runes on my hand. "It's because of this." I saw her look at my hand closely. "Can you read this?" If she could, that would be very impressive.

"Nope. I can't read this chicken scratch." Of course she couldn't. That would've been too easy. "So this guild is after you because you have this on your hand? What for?"

I put my hand back into the water. "Well I recently learned about this from one of their members called Jazzer. Right before he was dragged right through the earth, he told me this message. He said that I was the same as their guild master called Void because he possesses the same runes as I do."

Now everyone was looking at me. "When were you going to tell us this Louise?" I heard Erza ask me.

"I was going to tell you all earlier but then this woman barged into the guild." I eyed at Evolin.

I heard her giggle nervously. "Sorry about that. I didn't mean to interrupt something like that but this guild is really after you because of that?"

I nodded at her. "If that's the case then does that mean he's from the same world you are?" I heard Lucy ask me.

Evolin was just staring at me. "Uh…what do you mean by the same world?"

Oh she's going to like this. "What Lucy means is that I'm not from this world. I'm from a different one that has two moons."

Now Evolin was looking at me with complete shock. "ARE YOU SERIOUS!?"

B

After that, we finished up at the bath. The boys were already outside and we were just exiting out of the bathhouse. It was quite an enjoyable experience. I saw Evolin stretch her arms out. "Thanks for the treatment kid. I owe you one."

I smiled at her nervously. "No you don't. I just did what any other good civilian would do."

I heard her laugh. "Aren't you cute being all modest." I'm not even going to comment on that.

We left the bathhouse as it was dusk and saw the guys smiling at us. "Hey Evolin!" I saw her cat fly right up to her. Both of them smiled at each other.

I saw her turn to all of us. "Thanks for the bath session and it was nice to meet you all even though we started on the wrong foot." I suppose she means when Natsu attacked out of the blue earlier today. "Guess we'll stick around a while longer. See ya." We saw her give a farewell gesture to us and turned around

I sighed as what I knew what I was about to do next. I really have changed in this world. "Hold it!" Both her and her cat looked back at me. I walked up to them and reached into my pocket to give them some money. "You're not camping out after you just had a bath. That should be enough for the two of you to afford a room."

I saw Evolin take the money from my hand and her face was showing of gratitude. "Ohh thank you so much! I can just kiss you!"

And I had no idea how to react to that! I heard her cat clear his throat. "You said it again Evolin."

She screamed in embarrassment and instantly let go of my hands and walked back a few steps. "What is up with you saying that?!"

"Evolin tends to do that whenever someone does something generous to her. In fact I remember this one time where she and this one chick-AHH!"

And we saw Evolin grab Skeeter's head and slam him into the street. "I thought we agreed to never speak of that again!" I wasn't the only one wondering what that cat was going to say next. Whatever it was, Evolin's face was very red. I heard her sigh. "In any case, thanks Louise. I really do owe you one."

I heard Natsu chuckle. "Hey Evolin, stop by the guild if you can. I'd really like to fight you." Oh no.

We saw Evolin smile at his proposition. "You're on. In fact I'll take you and metal boy over there on at the same time. I'm sure I can teach you boys a thing or two." No no no no no no! I do not want to see what destruction three dragon slayers, especially an older one can do!

This time I heard the rebel chuckle. "We'll hold you onto that."

With a final goodbye, Evolin and Skeeter walked away from us. I'm pretty sure this isn't the last we'll see of them. "Well it's getting late so I think I'll just head on home." I heard Lucy say.

I saw Natsu smile at the thought. "Yeah good idea!"

"We'll come too!" Are these two serious?"

"Like hell you are!"

Well despite what Lucy said to them, they all left us. "Lucy has the right idea. I'm heading home as well." This time Gray left us. As he was walking away, I could've sworn I saw a figure following him. It must be Juvia.

The rebel and Lily did the same so it was just Erza and I. I saw her look at me. "Well since everyone is gone, would like you like join me for a piece of cake. I know a cake shop that's open at this time."

I waved casually at her offer. "Thank you but I think I'll just head home. Maybe another time." Erza respected my decision and I started to walk away.

"That was a nice gesture you did for them Louise. You've change a lot since coming here." I stopped walking to let those words sink in. I just smiled and walked away again.

I walked a fair distance from the bathhouse but still had a ways to go to arrive back at Fairy Hills. "She wasn't wrong you know." And Derf finally speaks.

I sighed. "I know. However by giving her that money, I have to work harder if I want to pay the rent on time." I still think paying 100,000 jewel was absurd. Still both he and Erza were right. I have noticed a change in my behavior. I even noticed my change in strength. If I fought Jazzer back when I was still at the academy, I would've lost. I still keep in mind that I am a noble. Not that really matters in this world though but I do feel like I am learning far more than what the academy could teach me. There are times where I wonder what everyone is doing over there. Are they still looking for me or have they given up? I guess I'll find out when I find a way to return.

"I've finally found you. Louise Valliere."

I stopped walking when I heard a voice behind. I slowly turn around to see this man staring right at me. It was like his eyes were seeing into my soul. The next thing I noticed was that I couldn't move my body at all like it was frozen in fear. I struggled to say my words. "W-Who…are…you?"

I heard a slight chuckle and gave a small smile at me. "It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Void, and I am the master of the dark guild Soulless Void."
