Gotei 13
Suzaku was at an exterior area of the academy doing katas with his Zanpakuto. After doing enough for his liking, he stopped and took a break.
"Lelouch and Nunnally," Suzaku said, "Naoto and Kallen… they are now going to be part of the Gotei 13 and it not like with that girl Rukia who only graduate because of family connection… well I wouldn't even call it legitimate," Suzaku paused and closed his eyes and then he opened them and had a determined expression, "with the way things are in the Gotei 13… in the Soul Society itself, I have to rise up as a Shinigami and then when I get in a position that I need to be in, I'll be able to change things from within."
"Suzaku?" Euphie's voice called.
Suzaku was surprised and then he turned and saw Euphie.
"Oh Princess Euphemia," Suzaku replied.
"Could you please stop calling me that?" Euphie replied upset, "I'm no longer a princess, I'm a just a student here like you."
"Well yes but you're still a noble," Suzaku said, "even though in difference."
"Suzaku, please," Euphie said with a frown.
"Uh," Suzaku replied as he was taken aback, "s-sorry E-Euphemia."
"…Okay," Euphie said, "Suzaku, can I ask you something?"
"Um sure," Suzaku replied.
"Suzaku, I kind of overheard you say something about changing things from within," Euphie said.
"Oh so you heard me," Suzaku said.
"Yes," Euphie said with a nod and then had serious expression, "Suzaku, what do you mean by changing things from within? Do you mean changing the military branches itself… or do you mean changing the Soul Society itself?"
Suzaku just looked at Euphie and then he had his head down and gripped on hilt of his Zanpakuto.
"What I mean is changing the Soul Society from within," Suzaku said.
"I see," Euphie replied, "and why do you want to change the Soul Society."
"I'm sure you noticed," Suzaku said, "and I know that it's not unnoticed by Lelouch and Nunnally and that's the fact that the Soul Society is corrupt."
"Corruption in the Soul Society…" Euphie said.
"Questionable decisions made by members by Central 46," Suzaku said, "and even instances where nobles are allowed to do things that would normally put people in prison. In fact, I heard a disturbing story that years ago, a Shinigami from a noble family killed two people, two other Shinigami and one of them was his wife. Apparently, the noble got in an argument with the other officer and the noble killed him and when his wife scolded and called him out for his heinous actions, he killed her as well without hesitation. The man was never punished for what he did and he was just allowed to just continue on."
Euphie was shocked in what she had just heard.
"Suzaku, where did you hear that story?" Euphie asked.
"Well I actually spoke to a Captain a while back," Suzaku said.
Meanwhile on a field, there was someone who was standing in front of a marker that was actually a grave and it was Kaname Tosen who was the Captain of the 9th Division.
"My dear friend," Tosen said.
Meanwhile in the 6th Division Barracks, the new recruits were in the hall waiting for the Captain and the Lieutenant of the 6th Division and Lelouch and Kallen was among them. Their lives as Shinigami and officers of the Gotei 13 was about to begin and they spoke to each other as they waited. Lelouch not feeling nervous or anxious but instead he was calm and collective but Kallen on the other hand did feel a bit anxious and wondered what was going to happen.
"It's finally happening," Kallen said, "and we're in quite earlier than the others."
"Yeah we are," Lelouch said.
"Lelouch, are you seriously not nervous about this?" Kallen asked.
"No to be honest," Lelouch answered, "I figure, hey it's happening and I just have do what I can. That's how I see it."
"I see," Kallen said.
Lelouch looked at Kallen and then thought of something.
"Don't worry Kallen," Lelouch assured, "I'm sure it will be fine. They wouldn't allow us to be here if we weren't capable and… well if you want, you can rely on me to help you if you need it."
Kallen was surprised and looked at Lelouch.
"Lelouch, are you serious?" Kallen asked.
"Sure, I say that while we're here in this division, we can help and support each other," Lelouch said.
"I see," Kallen said and then she smiled, "you're right. Thank you Lelouch."
"Sure, no problem," Lelouch said with a smile.
Kallen sighed, "It's just a reminder how wrong I really was about you and Nunnally when I found out about your past. I really was immature."
"You don't need to keep beating yourself up over it," Lelouch said.
"But I was really terrible to you two who did nothing wrong and I was especially terrible to Euphemia. I don't know how I will ever be able to make up for it."
"It's all in the past Kallen," Lelouch said, "you learn and move forward. You admit your mistake and apologize and we accepted it so don't be so hard on yourself now."
"Yeah… yeah you're right," Kallen said.
"There you go," Lelouch said with a smile.
The door suddenly opened and Byakuya who was the 6th Division Captain along with his lieutenant who was an old man was cheerful and wore glasses were entering in the hall as all the new recruits silenced themselves and stood in attention. Byakuya looked at every new recruit that came fresh from the Shin'o Academy and then he noticed Lelouch and Kallen and he nodded.
"Welcome all of you new recruits in the 6th Division," Byakuya started, "I am Byakuya Kuchiki, the Captain of the 6th Division."
The old man step forward a bit and nodded.
"I am the Lieutenant of the 6th Division, Ginjiro Shirogane," Ginjiro introduced himself.
Byakuya and Ginjiro continued with the introductions of the 6th Division and Lelouch and Kallen listening in to every word while at the same time wondered how their siblings were doing in their own divisions that they had joined. Meanwhile in the 4th Division, the new recruits in the division including Nunnally were standing and listening as the Captain of the 4th Division Retsu Unohana was welcoming the new recruit along her lieutenant Isane Kotetsu while in the 2nd Division, Captain Soi Fong along with her lieutenant Marechiyo Omaeda and Naoto was standing and listening to the stern and petite leader of the 2nd Division who was also the commander of the Onmitsukido. Back in the 6th Division, Byakuya just got through with the introductions for the new recruits. Afterwards Ginjiro approached and spoke to Lelouch and Kallen.
"So you two are two of the four prodigies that completed the Shin'o Academy in just one year," Ginjiro said with a smile.
"Thank you Lieutenant," Lelouch said.'
"Thank you sir," Kallen said.
"Lelouch," Byakuya spoke.
Lelouch looked and approached Byakuya.
"Bya-, uh I mean Captain Kuchiki," Lelouch said.
"To be honest, I'm surprised that you chose to join this division," Byakuya said, "I assumed that you and your sister would have joined your father and siblings in the 10th Division."
"Yes I can understand," Lelouch said.
"Well I assume that you have your reasons," Byakuya said, "but it's a plus to me since now you're here. I'll be expecting much from you," Byakuya then looked at Kallen, "you as well Kallen Kozuki."
"Yes of course Captain Kuchiki," Kallen responded.
"Now then…" Byakuya said.
Genbu arrived and approached Byakuya.
"Captain," Genbu said.
Later on, Lelouch followed Genbu in the hall of the barracks.
"Congratulations for your graduation," Genbu said.
"Thank you," Lelouch said.
"From what I understand," Genbu said, "you will be granted the 4th Seat while classmate will have the 5th Seat."
"Yeah," Lelouch said.
"This is probably not needed from me but if you have any questions or need help, I'm willing to help you out," Genbu said.
"I see," Lelouch said, "I'll keep that in mind. Thanks."
"Sure," Genbu said, "oh I want ask you something."
"Hmm?" Lelouch responded, "What is it?"
Genbu stopped and looked at Lelouch, "My son Suzaku, how was he when you last saw him?"
"Suzaku?" Lelouch responded, "Um, nothing unusual about him. I mean he still same naïve person that he has been."
"So other than those things you just said," Genbu said, "nothing else that may seem to be a concern?"
"No," Lelouch said and then got suspicious, "why is something wrong and something of a concern?"
"Well," Genbu said, "I hope it's nothing. I hope it's groundless."
"Hope what is groundless?" Lelouch asked.
"Oh don't worry about it," Genbu assured, "It's most likely nothing."
"Uh okay, if you say so," Lelouch said.
Not long after that, they arrived at to a door that leads to one of the rooms in the barracks.
"This will be your room," Genbu said
"I see," Lelouch replied with a nod, "thank you 3rd Seat."
"Sure," Genbu said with a nod as he left.
Lelouch went in his new room and looked around. He took his sheathed Zanpakuto and sat on the floor and looked out of the window as he held his Zanpakuto next to him. Meanwhile the new recruits of the 2nd Division and the Onmitsukido were on the field with Soi Fong and Marechiyo watching things as a huge circle formed. Naoto stepped in the circle and another Shinigami stepped in. Soi Fong had her arms crossed and nodded.
"Begin!" Soi Fong spoke.
Naoto and his opponent sparred with each other with punches and kicks striking each other. This went on for a while and then Naoto's opponent lunged at Naoto but Naoto dodged and countered by tripping and tossed him over on the ground. This impressed the other new recruits and Soi Fong just nodded. Naoto was walking back with his fellow officers and Soi Fong approached him.
"Kozuki," Soi Fong said.
"Yes Captain?" Naoto replied.
"Even though you're considered as one of the four prodigies," Soi Fong said, "I'm not going to give you a high seat just because of it. You'll have to prove that with me."
"Sure I understand Captain," Naoto said.
"Good and I have a way for you to do just that," Soi Fong said.
Meanwhile in the 4th Division Barracks, Nunnally was helping some of the Shinigami that were injured during their mission by using her healing Kido. At the moment, she was healing a Shinigami who was lying on bed who suffered injuries on his shoulders and his forehead.
"You're going to be fine," Nunnally said, "just lay back and relax."
The Shinigami nodded as Nunnally continued to concentrate in healing the injured Shinigami and Unohana was watching her new prodigy recruit and she nodded with approval. Meanwhile back in the academy, Euphie sighed and looked at Suzaku.
"Suzaku, you say that you intend to change things from within," Euphie said.
"Yes that's right" Suzaku replied with a nod.
"Exactly how do you intend to do that?" Euphie said.
"First is to graduate from the academy and become a Shinigami of the Gotei 13 of course," Suzaku said, "and work to move up the rank to eventually become a Captain."
"Okay and then what?" Euphie asked.
"Well, then I do enough good deeds and earn the trust of the Captain-Commander," Suzaku said, "and then work my way to earn the trust of Central 46."
Euphie was taken aback in what Suzaku.
"Suzaku, how are going to as you say earn the trust of Central 46?" Euphie asked.
"That… I don't know," Suzaku said, "but I'm sure that with doing everything and doing all the deeds for the Soul Society, I'll be able to earn their confidence and then be able to be in the positions to change things."
"Suzaku," Euphie said, "I don't know where to even start on the fallacies of everything you said."
"Fallacies?" Suzaku replied.
"Yes fallacies," Euphie said, "as in the falseness of everything you just said. What you're ultimately shooting for is not possible."
Suzaku got upset in what Euphie said.
"This is no different," Euphie continued, "in what you said in about Britannia saying that you were going to change the empire from within."
"I would have succeeded eventually," Suzaku said, "it would have happened if I hadn't died. If it hadn't been for…" Suzaku frowned, "If it hadn't been for Kallen and the Japan Liberation Front. Committing terrorist acts and killing innocent people."
Euphie looked at Suzaku and then figured something.
"Suzaku, you resent Kallen, don't you?" Euphie said.
Suzaku was taken aback as he looked at Euphie and then he looked away with a frown.
"It's her fault," Suzaku said, "it was because of her, her and the rest of the Japan Liberation Front, the suffering they caused at Lake Kawaguchi which also resulted in your death."
Euphie had a sad expression.
"They killed you," Suzaku continued, "and as a result of that, it caused a chain reaction when Princess Cornelia did a mass purging in the ghettos," Suzaku clenched his teeth and fists in anger, "if Kallen and her group had not been so selfish and resorted to terrorism… none of this would have happened," Suzaku sighed, "I know I had a chance to change Britannia from within but that died along with my death as well and being here in the Soul Society, I have seen and heard things and I'm also concern for the fact that Lelouch and Nunnally have gotten close to Kallen."
"You sound like you don't like it," Euphie said.
"I admit I don't because Kallen is not trustworthy," Suzaku replied, "and neither are her friends from before and in fact, Naoto can't be trustworthy as well."
"Suzaku," Euphie said with a bit of a strong tone.
"Euphemia?" Suzaku spoke concerned with the tone Euphie spoke.
"I would advise you to stop Suzaku," Euphie said, "don't insult my friends oh and the notion that you're going for, I seriously doubt that you would be able to do it, not in the way that I suspect that you're going to go for."
"Euphemia," Suzaku said, "I'm also doing this for your sake and theirs, Lelouch and Nunnally."
"We're fine on our own thank you very much," Euphie said, "you're not going to get anywhere trying to force your views and actions on other people."
Euphie walked away and Suzaku was shocked and then he looked away with a frown.
"I don't understand," Suzaku said.
Unbeknownst to Suzaku that he was actually being watched and he was watched by Rai who frowned.
"Suzaku, what the hell are you up to?" Rai said and he walked away.
Meanwhile Lelouch and Nunnally were walking together as they headed to the 10th Division to see their father and older siblings.
"So how are things for you in the 4th Division?" Lelouch asked.
"Things have gone well for me," Nunnally said with a smile, "what about you?"
"Excellent," Lelouch said.
"I'm glad to hear that," Nunnally said, "so how is it for you?"
"Hmm?" Lelouch respond.
"Kallen is with you in the same division and you're working with Suzaku's father and not to mention… you're in Byakuya's division."
"Right," Lelouch said, "well…"
"Lelouch, Nunnally," A female voice called.
The siblings smiled as they recognized the voice and they turned and there they saw Rangiku who was waving at them and went to them.
"Rangiku!" Nunnally said happily.
Nunnally rushed over to Rangiku and the two of them shared a hug. Lelouch smiled as he went over to Rangiku as well. Rangiku smiled and placed her arm on Lelouch's shoulder.
"Well now," Rangiku said with a grin, "so you two finished in just one year."
"Yeah pretty much," Lelouch said.
"I take it that you two are going to see the captain and the lieutenants," Rangiku said.
"Yes," Nunnally said with a nod.
"Well if you don't mind," Rangiku said, "I'll walk you to them."
"We would like that," Lelouch said with a smile.
"Okay, follow me," Rangiku said.
Rangiku led Lelouch and Nunnally to the 10th Division Barracks and within the barracks, Rangiku was leading the siblings to see Seigen, Fujimaru, and Matsuri.
Reformed Human World
There was a woman who was standing on a hill and looked up in the sky.
"This world has changed for the worse," The woman said and then she thought about Naoto and Kallen and she had a sad expression, "Naoto my precious son, Kallen my precious daughter… I'm sorry I wasn't there for you two."
"Sena Kozuki," A female voice said.
The woman named Sena frowned as it was obvious who it was.
"I can't say that I'm happy to see you," Sena said upset, "Marianne."
"It's been a long time since we spoke to each other," Marianne said as she appeared in front of Sena.
"Go away," Sena said, "Just because we all become one in this world, does not mean I should be forced to be near you."
Marianne sighed, "You still haven't changed. You're still the same weak-willed person that you've always been… even back in our days in Soul Society in the Gotei 13."
Sena clenched her teeth and glared at Marianne, "You have some nerve to say that to me."
"Hmph, I'm not wrong in what I said," Marianne said, "In fact that you acted so weak and allowed yourself to be bullied by your lover's pathetic wife. Add to the fact that you resorted to Refrain to get through the day."
Sena clenched her teeth in anger.
"Your own daughter was ashamed of you," Marianne said, "not that it's not understandable."
"Everything I did was for the sake of my daughter," Sena said, "if done all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. I at least didn't abandon my own children unlike you Marianne."
"Don't you dare," Marianne said.
"But it's true," Sena said, "in the end, you and Charles turned your back on your own children, willing to let them die in Japan all for the sake for your own goals."
"You don't know what you're talking about Sena," Marianne said, "Charles and I loved our son and daughter very much."
"I can't you say that after what happened to them," Sena said angrily, "you sacrificed them just for your own goals. You stopped caring about your own children years ago. You've always done this."
"You pathetic bitch," Marianne responded with a glare.
