Enjoy 3
Disclaimer: I do not own stand by me
"Anna what are you going to do when Nick shows up?" Chris asked me from our spot in the bed of his truck. Chris was playing with an unlit cigarette in his left hand his right around my waist as we leaned against the front of the truck.
"I don't know what you mean." I said.
"I mean, what are you going to do? He might want to rip your head off, and You're quick with the tongue but not with your fists." he stated.
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean, I've seen you fight Anna, you're not awful but you sure as hell aren't good enough to take Nick on." he said I rolled my eyes.
"Nick isn't going to try anything."
"You can't be sure about that though. Look you're tough. . . . one of the toughest chicks I know, but you have a mouth on you and that mouth makes you seem a lot tougher then you actually are. You can be really rude and not think-"
"Wow Chris tell me how you really feel." I said crossing my arms.
"You know what I mean." he whispered kissing the side of my head pulling me tighter to his body.
"I'll be fine, I've been talking my way out of things since birth." I smiled he chuckled. And nodded.
"You know I'm a pretty smooth talker myself."
"Oh yeah you're great, got me to go out with you and I almost got mauled by dogs."
I said dryly.
"And yet here we are." he smirked before pressing his lips to mine in a soft kiss.
His body shifting to hold us chest to chest. One hand holding my waist as the other held the back of my neck. His touch was light as if I was something that might break at any moment. It was nice to feel cherished, like I wasn't some product or anything. Chris tried to prove to me every moment that I meant more then that and he succeeded every time.
He was patient, but he was still a guy, so there was no surprise when he swept his tongue across my lips. I parted my lips for him and he seemed a little surprised but didn't hesitate sliding his tongue over mine he held me tighter to him.
Chris made me crazy sometimes, his warm body his cocky smirks and his hands holding me firm yet delicate.
Chris released my mouth keeping his forehead on mine breathing deeply he held onto my drawing small circles on the side of my neck.
"God Anna." he whispered hoarsely his hot breath hitting my lips sending small shivers down my back.
"WINSTON!" someone called breaking Chris and I apart.
Now when I say someone, I am not insinuating that I don't know who it was. I knew exactly who it was, Nick Todd. I pulled myself up and looked over the top of the truck. And pulled myself over the edge to sit on the edge of the bed. He saw me and glared, I smirked as he neared, not happy with the girl from two nights ago and another guy.
"You Better get that fucking smug look off your face before I slap it off." He snapped at me, his eyes burned with rage, and if I had been anyone else I would have been scared but Charlie flipped better shit then him.
"Look I don't know why you're so upset."
"The hell you don't." he was now standing four feet away from the truck. He pulled out the wad of 'bills' I had set on the table and threw it at me. "You gave me fake money."
"Did I?"
"I want my money back you little snake."
"I didn't do anything wrong." I said holding my hands up in self defense keeping a playful manner on my face and it was pissing him off.
"You gave me fake money!"
"You played with Fake dice." I accused right back at him. His glare faltered and he didn't seem to know what to say to that.
"No I didn't."
"To hell you didn't, you really think you can scam a scammer?"
"You played with loaded dice?" the girl asked from beside him. He looked guilty at her and she rolled her eyes. "Well then of course she did that!"
"I thought it was a commandment not to gamble." I asked.
"it's not a commandment." Nick said his glare returning.
"Well thou shall not lie, I think Jesus would agree that you were being dishonest playing with loaded dice."
"What do you know about anything religious?" he asked crossing his arms.
"Not much, my friend Will bought a Jesus shaped flashlight so he could say 'Let Jesus light the path' But he also taught me the commandments, other then that nothing." I said shrugging my shoulders. "Oh no wait I was also told me I was going to hell. And Satan's real name is Lucifer or something." I said I saw Chris try to hold in a smile out of the corner of my eye.
"You always such a smart ass?" Nick asked.
"Just part time, most of the time I'm just an honest kid, but I wouldn't expect you to know anything about that." I said, his eyes blazed up again.
"You better watch your mouth its gonna get you in a world of trouble some day."
"Yeah why I'm not worried about it today." I paused waiting to see if he would do anything but he didn't, didn't move or say anything. "I know you're not gonna do anything to me Nick."
"What makes you so sure."
"You brought your girl here, no guy brings his girl when hes going to beat someone." I stated and he knew I was right.
"Why did you do it?" Nick asked me.
"Do what?"
"Play along when you knew I was screwing you over?"
"Cause I wasn't the one being screwed over now was I?" I asked lifting up the wad of fake bills that fell into the bed of the truck. "Look, all I want is one round, you can win your money back, real money."
"I don't want to play you again."
"Why not?" I asked spreading my arms out.
"Winston, I'm not an idiot. I don't want to be cleaned out again."
"That's not my intention." I said honestly.
It was true I didn't want to clean the boy out, not at all. I wanted to get a key from him but something told me that key was way more important then anything to him or Ace.
I couldn't flat out ask him to be the key, he would think I'm insane and probably know I was working for someone else. A new girl in town doesn't just know about a stupid key.
I needed him to bet it, I needed him to want to give it up and tell me what he wanted.
I had done something like this only once in my life. I wanted a plane ticket to California for a good friend who was escaping from an abusive caretaker. I needed money in order to get it so I spent time hustling people. At the time I was wearing a necklace with two mitts on it that I had found at a swap meet. Turns out that necklace was from a world series boxing champion. The man wanted me to trade it but I wasn't stupid, I could sell it and get the money needed.
He didn't have any money on him but he had something else. It was a voucher, one signed with his name, it was from his company or something and he told me that there was enough money on it for four trips on any flight wanted. So we traded.
That's what I needed with Nick. I needed to have something he would want, something that he would give anything for. I needed him to offer me the key in return for what I had. Needed him to tell me about it, make it seem like I knew nothing about the stupid key and then I would become interested in it.
But I didn't have anything to offer him as a bet item.
So we left it at that, Nick called me a brat, and I told him if he ever changed his mind and was at a last resort then he could come play me.
Nick left with the girl and his silent friend. Chris looked frustrated and annoyed.
"Anna I know I am never going to understand but what the heck just happened?"
"I'm just waiting, I need to know more about him." I said.
"Like what?"
"Like whose that girl he was with?"
"I don't know, she's been here a while I know that but I think she just turned up a few months ago. His girlfriend I think."
"Okay well, What's Nick's status."
"Piss poor." I laughed and shoved his shoulder. "But he's not gonna want money. Otherwise he would have beaten you for yours."
"I thought no one knew I was rich?" I asked eyes wide.
"No one does, but everyone also knows you've hustled almost all the rich kids out of their cash."
"Well anyways I need to know more about him."
"Good freaking luck I wasn't lying when I told you he was the best kept secret in the town." He said jumping off the truck and onto the ground before helping me by the waist.
"Thank you for being so supportive." I said rolling my eyes.
"Look I'm gonna help you but … . it's not gonna be easy at all. Where do you think we should start?" he asked sliding his arm over my shoulders.
"First things first, I need to meet some of his friends." Chris nodded and off we went.
I was walking down the street, the meeting with Nick's friends hadn't gone too well. Turns out he doesn't really have any friends. The closest person in his life was the girl, and I knew I couldn't talk to her, not yet anyways.
Chris had told me he'd meet me at my house, he had seen a fight and was itching to go break it up. I had let him.
I was walking when something grabbed my arm and pulled me into an ally my back slamming into the brick wall.
"Jesus Christ Ace!" I snapped seeing the hood's face in front of mine.
"So what have you got it yet?" he asked I rolled my eyes.
"If I had it don't you think I'd give it to you?" I asked crossing my arms and daring a raise of the eyebrow at him. I could tell he wasn't in a good mood to begin with and although he promised not to beat on me or anyone else I still didn't doubt he'd give me a right kick in the gut if I deserved it.
"What's your progress?" he asked.
"Uh no."
"What do you mean no?"
"I mean, a progress report was not part of our deal, I'm not telling you anything. Just when I have the key or not." there was no doubt in my mind that Ace had tried to get his key back himself. He might have even had a plan that moment I was talking to him and letting him in on mine might result in him using the information I had, which was not much, to get it himself.
"You'll tell me what ever the hell I want." He snapped. I could see Richard. . .eyeball standing a few feet away smoking a winston but other then that Ace was alone.
"I don't think I will." I said.
"Watch that tongue of yours, you don't have Chris to hide behind this time." he glared slamming a hand on the brick above my head. Staring down at me his eyes like fire.
"I don't hide behind Chris, and look if you want to know, I talked to him that's pretty much it."
"That's it? What the hell game are you playing? I told you to get the damn key from him not chat and gab about-"
"Ace, It's not the most pleasant conversations. I'm just trying to figure out how he thinks, if I'm going to get that key I'm going to have to know a lot about him."
"I don't see the relevance." he said giving me a suspicious look.
"Cause you're not a con."
"You better get that key."
'It's be a lot easier to gamble for it if you told me what it was for." I said testing the water with the subject.
"yeah well, it'd be a lot easier not the beat the tar out of you if you didn't talk." he then started walking away. I looked at Eyeball.
"Where is Chris?" he asked, no concern entered his voice it was a bored curiosity.
"I'm meeting him later."
"That's not what I asked." he blew out a perfect smoke ring and the crushed the butt of the cigarette on the ground.
"Why do you care?"
"I may not be his favorite person but I know who is, just odd he's not with you right now." he looked at me with a look I couldn't describe.
"Two little shits. . . . you guys deserve each other." he smirked and then turned on his heel and left. I let out a low long breath and raked a hand through my hair my fingers getting caught in a few tangles.
I stepped out from the alley deciding that this town has way too many allies.
I took one step before a force knocked into my back. A scream left my mouth and I started to kick the legs that left the ground.
"Whoa, Anna its me!" Chris's voice stopped my assault right away and my feet touched the ground.
I turned to hear Chris laughing.
"That's not funny you idiot!" I snapped hitting him in the shoulder.
"It's pretty funny." I turned on my heel and started to walk home. "Okay okay, I'm sorry."
"No your not." I mumbled keeping my fast pace.
"No I'm not but come on you can't stay mad at me." Chris grabbed my elbow stopping me in my tracks.
"What makes you so-" I was cut off with his lips.
A firm kiss that warmed my whole body, his hand holding my neck as his thumb grazed over the skin of my neck, holding my body flush against his. He was smirking under my lips I knew it but I didn't really give a damn. I brushed my fingers through the hair on the nape of his neck. We broke away and almost at the same time.
"Still mad?" he questioned. No I wasn't. When I looked at his smile, his bright blue eyes dancing with an odd joy despite all the shit I know he goes through, I knew I wasn't mad. Could never be mad at him. . . okay yes I could but I found myself always forgiving him, forgetting anything ever said or done to annoy me and he seemed to know it too. Chris chambers was so flawed, so very flawed, we didn't work, I was stubborn and he was far too determined. I was shattered and he was broken, I needed someone to take me away from pain, and he needed someone that could always be there. But who was I kidding? We were both way too selfish to give one another up. We made things complicated but to us we didn't need anything else but each other.
Except maybe a key. . .
So I have decided that the next chapter will be a lot of Chris and Anna. Just them and their relationship to me it feels neglected. And I just want to give a heads up that this story is not going to stay focused on getting that Key I find it will become boring so there will be a few twists and turns brought in. Hope you enjoyed the chapter, comment and review tell me what you think, and what you'd like to see happen :)
Thank you so much to all that have already reviewed you are amazing 3 Stay excellent and have a great week.
