Part 1: Chapter 21

Sunday, August 19, 1934

The Reich Government has enacted the following law which is hereby promulgated.

Section 1. The office of Reich President will be combined with that of Reich Chancellor. The existing authority of the Reich President will consequently be transferred to the Führer and Reich Chancellor, Adolf Hitler. He will select his deputy.

Section 2. This law is effective as of the time of the death of Reich President von Hindenburg.

After months of failing health, on August 2, 1934 at 9 am, President Paul von Hindenburg died at his country estate in East Prussia. Within hours, the above law was made public. So basically, Hitler is the main boss of this country. No one is more powerful than him.

A few days ago, the Nazis published Hindenburg's political testament, which talking about his years of service while complementing Hitler in the process. I seemed to be the only one who suspected it was a forgery however, as most people are going to vote 'YES' today.

Vote on what, exactly? Well, today there is a poll for the German people, an approvence poll. It's going to show whether or not the people approve of Hitler's new power.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

I jumped slightly as Pops's voice brought me out of my thoughts. Regaining my original position on the stool and bringing the bottle of Coca-Cola to my lips to take a sip, I turned and looked at him, giving him a shrug.

"Yeah, you've been silent all day. What's wrong with ya?" Mikey asked, taking a gulp from his own beverage.

I put the bottle on the counter. "I guess this voting thing has got me worried now." I snorted humorlessly. "At least I've been having less nightmares."

"You shouldn't have seen that," Amber stated softly. "It's too much."

I grinned. "Too much, huh? Too much? Is it too much that me and Mikey are forced to go to Looney School? Is it too much that my sister is a basketcase? Is it too much that to read a book I have to go all the way to the middle of the freaking Ghost Zone? Or how about my parents, is it too much that my Mom is bipolar while my father is a sadistic, controlling, judging bastard? And is it too much that the people of this country are going to allow themselves to be ruled by a crazy dictator? Huh, is it?" By the end of my speech I was shouting.

Mikey and Amber stared at me completely shocked at my outburst. Pops paused before he laid a hand on my trembling shoulder. "Let it all out, son. Just let it all out. You can't keep your feelings all cooped up inside you, or else they all come tumbling out at once."

I turned back around, placed my elbows on the counter, then put my head into my hands. Pops removed his hand. Maybe I should just give up. Just give in to all the propaganda around me, everyone else has.

"Don't say things like that, you dipstick!" Amber's shout caused my to tear my face away from my hands to stare at her. I didn't realize I was voicing those thoughts aloud.

"Don't ever give up! Don't you ever give in to that crazy man's goal! And you are wrong, Daniel Fenton, you are wrong. Not everyone has given in, you're looking at three people who haven't! You're strong, and you need to stay strong." Amber pleaded.

I stared for a minute or two, taking it all in. Finally, I smiled; a real one. "You're right. I'm sorry about what I said. I won't ever give up."

That night, back at home, everyone including me crowded around the small radio in our living room. "...And the voting results are in! Adolf Hitler, is now Führer of the German nation by direct will of the people, having ninety percent of the vote!"

Mom, Dad, and Jazz cheered while I plastered on a fake smile.

The next day, August 20, our Führer decided to immediately put his new power to use by enacting the mandatory loyalty oaths:

Article 1. The public officials and the soldiers of the armed forces must take an oath of loyalty on entering service.

Article 2

1. The oath of loyalty of public officials will be:

'I swear: I shall be loyal and obedient to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich and people, respect the laws, and fulfill my official duties conscientiously, so help me God.'

2. The oath of loyalty of the soldiers of the armed forces will be:

'I swear by God this sacred oath: I will render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich and people, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and will be ready as a brave soldier to risk my life at any time for this oath.'

Article 3. Officials already in service must swear this oath without delay according to Article 2 number 1.

In school they made us say both of these oaths, even though we're too young to be in the military or be any kind of public official. Since I sat in the back, no one could see that I had my fingers crossed behind me.

A/N: Yes, I know this chapter is ridiculously short, but there was only one event, and it did happen pretty quickly. I'll try to make the next chapter longer, and it will be the year 1935! 1935 is a really short year, only two events happened during that time, but they were big.

F.A.Y.B.A.N.: Me too, and I hope the wait will be worth it when she does come in:)

Invader Johnny: It was true, he completely disregarded the killings and acted like they were completely justified. And yes, he was a vegetarian but I don't think it became public until 1938. Also, you're right that he hated animal cruelty, but in my opinion if he really hated it, he wouldn't have tested out poison on his dog shortly before he and his wife's suicides. As you can probably guess, the dog died.

litterry: Thanks!

The Writer Es: Me too, that should be an exciting chapter haha :) And thank you for complementing my portrayal of Mussolini, since I thought it was kinda hard to write his character.

Sakari Kateri Azrael: Thanks for the info!

DPfangirl: Yes, the intangible chin scene is from Reign Storm. Oh, and it's Pariah Dark, just making the correction in case that you might write/post it another time:) And though the Ghost King won't meet Hitler, I will use his name in Part 3;)

predatorpucker: Thank you!

He23t: Yep, I think Dash did get the message lol. And though I think Benito was a bad person, I think he was less scary than Hitler and Stalin.
