Such an awesome song!

And just a little information from my side and for those who haven't heard it yet:
When this story is finished, I will leave this website and I don't think that I will come back, since you guys so or so don't care for the stuff I post here...

That being said, have fun reading this chapter...

Chapter 20

In the middle of the vast square, the two clashed.

Michael was able to avoid the approaching claws and fangs only temporarily, because he was still greatly weakened and it was hard for him to keep standing on his feet.

Nevertheless, he fought valiantly against the dragon that attacked him mercilessly!

Here he tried to get him with his claws, there his formidable jaws snapped after him and when all of this failed, he took a deep breath and send his fiery breath after Michael, who could barely escape this attack.

"Give up Michael! You can't defeat me!" he heard the dragon roar, and shortly thereafter he send a barrage of fire into his direction again, which almost got him, but he could jump aside in the very last moment.

When he turned around on his back, he saw how Lucifer's claws came down on him.

At the very last moment he rolled to the side, away from him and only seconds after that, the claws of the dragon dug deep into the ground; exactly where Michael had been lying just a few seconds ago.

Lucifer's mocking laughter followed him as he laboriously tried to get back on his feet, trying to get some distance between himself and his brother.

"Look at you Michael! Where is the strong warrior of whom you think to be? I can't see him anymore! All I see here is a coward who tries to run away from me!"

The words hit him like a sword thrust and Michael spun around and threw a sharp look at his brother and growled deeply at him.

"I am not a coward!"

And that he was truly not, because it had been him and the other three Archangels, who had fought at God's side against the darkness and only together they had been strong enough to lock her away.

Michael was everything, but he was not a coward and that he would prove to his brother now!

Lucifer's eyes followed his every movement and grinning the dragon watched him as he took a spear which stuck not far away from him in the ground and would serve him as his only weapon, as he had lost his sword.

The spear was better than nothing!

"What do you want to do with it, huh? Tickle me?" the dragon said with a sneer and his grin widened, revealing two rows of razor-sharp fangs, from which blood and hot drool dripped.

"Michael! Don't do it!" the Lord said and when Michael turned around and looked at him, he shuddered when he saw the look in his father's eyes. A look, so full of sadness, shock and disbelief at the same time that he would have liked to threw himself into his arms immediately, but he had a job to do and he would not give up.

He would protect his father and his family; no matter what the cost.

Even if he would die in the attempt...

Again mocking laughter reached his ears and when he turned around, he looked directly into Lucifer's red sparkling eyes.

"Yes, just listen to Daddy. He knows that it is useless to fight against me. You have no chance against me Michael! Give up and I spare your life!"

The older Archangel narrowed his eyes threateningly and he clutched the spear so much that his knuckles turned white. Behind him, his majestic blue/white wings spread out and he got ready for the next attack.

"No! I will never give up!"

The grin disappeared from his brother's face and anger flared again in his bright red eyes, and he growled like the wild best that he was. His jet-black wings spread out to their full wingspan and his muscles tensed under his scaly skin.

"Then you have chosen your fate, brother..."

Again the beast attacked, dashed forward with his mouth wide open and Michael did the same. With a battle cry he dashed forward, holding his spear up in the air, ready to ram it into the dragon's body. Just before the two fighters could clash again, Michael pushed himself off the ground and rose into the air and flew over the dragon, who couldn't react fast enough and missed him when he had wanted to bite him. An angry roar came from his throat as he turned his head and saw Michael, how he flew higher and higher into the air.

Lucifer did the same when he pushed himself off of the ground and followed him.

Under him the angels gathered on the main square and all eyes were on Michael and the dragon, who fought this terrible battle high above their heads.

Through the dense smoke it became increasingly difficult to see them, as the two flew up higher and higher. When they had disappeared from the sight of the angels and the Lord, only Lucifer's angry roars and Michael's battle cries were heard and here and there dragon fire brightened the pitch black sky.

Michael had difficulties to see anything in the smoke and thus he had to rely more on his hearing, because his eyes could barely see anything. He heard Lucifer before he could see him and he was able to avoid being attacked by him and this tactic saved his life many times, because the dragon missed him narrowly with his attacks and slowly every last bit of power dwindled from Michaels body. He panted heavily and his wing beats were becoming weaker and he could hold himself up in the air only with great difficulties. Nevertheless, he fought bitterly against the dragon, because if he would fall, also Heaven would fall, because God had chosen him to fight against the beast and to banish Lucifer and it was exactly what he would do!

And he was the only of the angels who was strong enough to face the son of the morning in a fight...

Once again the dragon attacked, but this time Michael didn't dodge his attack.

With a strong wing beat he flew over the dragon and at the same time he raised his spear and let it down hard on the head of the beast, but the dragon skin was too thick and he too weak, as he would made it to push the spearhead through the skin.

But he didn't give up and he clung to the spiky comb on Lucifer's back. His brother raged with anger, roared and spit fire, but he didn't catch him, because he couldn't turn his head around that much and his arms were too short as to reach him. He tried to hit him with his tail, but that also didn't help much, because Michael could always dodge his attacks.

The older angel hesitated for a moment, as he raised his spear with one hand, but then he thought better of it.

He had banished all the feelings he had cherished for his brother - and still cherished - and he would stand to his word!

"Forgive me Lucifer..."

The eyes of the Dragon widened and a deafening roar came from his throat and he lost his balance and began to stumble in the air, when a violent pain exploded in his right shoulder. Michael had done it with the last bit of his power to push the spear through his skin and the spearhead stuck now deep into his shoulder and let him feel pain as he had never felt it before!

His wings beat now wildly and he could no longer hold himself into the air and so the dragon fell towards the ground, roaring loudly and spitting fire in the process.

Michael clung as hard as he could to the spear, screamed and rammed the weapon deeper into the body of the beast, until he felt how the spearhead hit a bone...

The blood of his brother wetted his face, but he paid no attention to it.

He let himself be led by his rage against Lucifer, clutched the spear as hard as he could, as Lucifer fell.

But before they reached the ground, Michael could see the change in the body of his brother.

Slowly the beast turned back into an angel...

When they hit the ground, they kicked up so much dust and soot that the angels standing around had to hold their arms protectively over their faces.

The dust settled slowly and all eyes, even those of the Lord, were fixed on the spot where Michael and Lucifer had come down.

When the dust had finally set, a murmur went through the crowd of angels, for they saw Michael how he was standing over his brother, who lay below him in the dirt.

Lucifer was naked, was only a shadow of himself, with featherless wings on his bloody back and a pained face. From his slightly parted lips came a loud, pained groan and tears of pure pain ran from his narrowed eyes and he didn't dare to move, in fear, Michael would ram the spear deeper into his shoulder.

The elder Archangel was slightly bent over him and with one foot, he pressed his head into the dirt and with both hands, he held the spear that still stuck in his right shoulder and brought him so much pain.

It was just a cruel sight!

The two angels who had loved each other the most were now eaten up by hatred and all ties that had once connected these two were destroyed by now.

There was no brotherhood and no love between them anymore, only unspeakable hatred...

No angel spoke a word, neither Michael's nor Lucifer's hosts and even the Lord had no words when he stepped forward and looked at his two sons.

When Michael lifted his head, he raised his voice above all the angels of heaven, so that everyone could hear him:

"I, the Archangel Michael, banish you, Lucifer, son of the morning, along with your angelic hosts in the name of our Holy Father from heaven. You shall burn for all eternity in the fires of the underworld and never return to heaven ever again. Should you dare to come back, you will face the wrath of God and he will kill you!"

There were no words, which then left Lucifer's lips, but only a whimper.

A whimper, which would have soften Michael's heart, but it didn't.

Too horrible were the deeds of his brother, then he would have given him his compassion. Lucifer had chosen his fate and Michael would now impose the will of God about him.

It started with a whisper in the air.

A soft breeze tickled the inhabitants of heaven, which quickly became a raging storm, as in the center of the square and a few meters away from Michael and Lucifer, the ground opened. The all-consuming vortex that originated it was so strong that God and his angels retreated.

Panic gripped the angels who had fought on Lucifer's side, because they knew what this moment meant for them.

The portal, which would pull all of them down into the underworld, had opened and now called for the angels, whose hearts were filled with hatred and darkness.

The remaining angels had recovered quickly from the initial shock and had grabbed their weapons and urged the apostates now toward the roaring portal.

One after another was captured by the strong undertow and got dragged down into the underworld.

And in the end only Lucifer was left...

Michael released him, pulled the spear out of his bleeding shoulder, which made his brother scream in pain and then Michael stood beside his father. His eyes were fixed on Lucifer all the time, who had opened his eyes again and who returned the icy gaze of the older Archangel just as cold as he did.

Cumbersome he rose to his feet and gave each angel who dared to come too close to him, a scowl, but the Warriors didn't retreat from him, but pushed him back with their weapons.

"Don't think it's over!" were his last words, before the powerful undertow of the portal also caught him and pulled him into the depths and thus into exile...

Authors note:
Maybe some of you will think it is over now, but it isn't. There will be a few more chapters, before this story is finished.
I still have some surprises up my sleeve and I will try to update this story every tuesday now, if I won't forget about it, since I have a pretty busy life at the moment.
