Chapter 21 - You Are The Love of My Life
Cristina spent her last 3 days in Seattle just the way she wanted to, with the people she wanted.
And today she was leaving, everything and everyone behind; for a new start, a new life. She was with Owen at his trailer, they had spent the entire night making love and cherishing each other. They were still lying in the bed, holding onto each other.
"So this is it, you are really leaving today" Owen finally broke the silence between them. But Cristina was finding it hard to say something; she just wrapped her arms a bit more tightly around him and buried her face in his chest.
"I love you Owen, with all my heart", she kissed him passionately for a long time.
"I guess we should get moving, we have to make a stop at Alex's for your luggage before we go the airport" Owen reminded her. Although he really didn't want to move an inch, but he knew that they had to.
When around 30 minutes later, they reached Alex's house, everyone was waiting for them.
"We all wanted to see you off, so we came" Meredith said as she held the door for them.
"Awww, thank you guys. It means a lot to me, really. But no one is coming with me to the airport. NO ONE" She looked at both Owen and Meredith, and they didn't look happy at the moment.
"But Cristina…" Owen wanted to argue
"Please", Owen didn't say anything further, just nodded in agreement. Cristina still had some stuff to pack, so she went to her room to finish that up, along with Meredith and Callie.
"So how are you holding up? I mean you are leaving today, for good" Callie asked, as she helped Cristina pack her stuff.
"I am ok, as much as I can be right now", Cristina replied with a strained sigh.
"And Owen, how is he holding up?" Meredith questioned.
"He is…. He is holding up, he is trying, as much as he can…. Take care of him, please", Cristina said in a shaky voice as her eyes filled up with tears. "Don't leave him alone, he needs to be around people. He needs to know that he is not all alone. Please… Promise that you will take care of him",
"Off course we will, don't you worry about him. He'll be ok, I promise" Meredith hugged her tightly "I will take special care of Owen. But you also have to promise me that you'll also take care of yourself, that you will be ok…"
"I will, I'll be ok" Cristina gave Meredith a tight squeeze.
"My cab would be here soon, so I guess I should get moving. Say my goodbyes", with that she hugged Callie. Everyone was waiting for them downstairs. Cristina hugged everyone present there. All of these people were after all her family and she as going to miss them all.
"Derek, please take care of Meredith and Owen. Don't let any one of them turn dark and twisty. Be Meredith's person, be me for her".
"Don't worry about her, I will take care of her. I will be her person, I will try; to be you for her. But don't ask me to be You for Hunt, I am not that kind of a guy. I have a wife"
"Derek, shut up", Cristina chuckled.
"Yang, your cab is here" Alex informed her.
"Oh, I guess its time to go", Cristina tried to smile and scanned the room for Owen, who was the only one missing.
"Where is Owen", she asked, her voice starting to shake.
"I think he's outside"
"o…ok" Cristina found Owen outside, his back towards her.
"My cab's here"
As soon as he heard, he turned around, his eyes were red.
"Yeah, its time to go", they just stood there staring into each other's eyes for a moment before Cristina covered the gap between and wrapped her arms around him. They hugged each other for several minutes before Owen took her face in his hands and kissed her passionately for several more minutes, tears streaming down both their faces.
"Guys, I hate to interrupt but its time to move", Meredith came up from behind them.
"Yeah, we are coming" Cristina told Meredith and turned her attention back to Owen.
"Promise me that you'll take care of yourself. Promise me that you will be happy that you will try, Promise me Owen"
"I will, I promise" he kissed her again "Cristina, I ….."
"I know, I do too" Cristina hugged him again "Take care now"
"Take care of yourselves people, I love you all"
"I love you Meredith Grey, take care of yourself. Be safe and don't be stupid" she hugged Meredith once again before getting into the cab "And Mer, take care of Owen, stay with him"
"Don't worry, about anything".
Cristina got into her cab and she gave one last time glance to her home, to her family before she left.
Cristina was just about to board the plane when she heard him,
"Cristina, Cristina" Owen was waving frantically to her.
She ran towards him, "Owen what are you doing here"
"I had to see you, one last time, I had to"
"Owen…"
"Cristina you are the love of my life, I will always be in love with you. And I know that YOU LOVE ME, THAT I COME BEFORE SURGERY, BEFORE YOUR CAREER. I KNOW THAT. I KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT LEAVING ME FOR SURGERY, I KNOW. IT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO DO AND YOU SHOULD. IT IS A ONCE IN A LIFE TIME OPPORTUNITY, AND IT MAKES ME PROUD. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU"
"OWEN, I LOVE YOU. YOU ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE AND I WILL NEVER LOVE ANOTHER MAN. I CAN'T. I LOVE YOU" Cristina kissed him desperately.
"Go now, make me proud, Cristina and remember that I will always love you"
"I will always you Owen"
This is one of the most difficult chapters to write.
