Chapter 21 (New Strategy)
Tori led the group through the path of a clear battlefield, her hand gripped the handle of a light gun and her eyes focused on a fight in the distance. The once small puppy had grown large, nearly ten feet tall on all four legs. Andre was fighting valiantly for someone covered in sweat and blood. The dog was also covered in blood.
Beside Andre was Jade, summoning storms to defeat Envy. The demon was greatly wounded, but still moving with great ferocity. It bared its fangs and snapped at Andre. "We've no more time for these games," Tori muttered. The others nodded and murmured their agreements. She was tired of the Seven and ready to face Samil.
Her fist clenched and adrenaline rushed through her body and her narrow glare focused on the scene surrounding her. Jade turned her head and froze upon seeing her, a look of guilt flashed through the girl's eyes as she lowered her hands and bowed her head.
She lifted her hands and aimed at Envy. Her voice bellowed as she exclaimed. "Hey, Envy!" The dog turned its head towards her and snarled. He moved fully towards her and opened his mouth. She closed her eyes as rancid breath swept over her. "I'm getting really tired of this bull. I want to see my sister, and your little sack of tricks isn't going to stop me!"
She pulled back on her trigger and watched as a ray of light phased through Envy's head. The creature reverted to his human form. Envy stared back at her with wide eyes as he curled his fingers. "I-Impossible…" He whimpered. Envy brought his hands before his face and slowly shook his head. "How could you defeat Envy?"
"Some things are more important than being jealous of other people, or always wanting the attention. Being first means absolutely nothing. You've been a bad dog…" The gun in her hand turned to a long, curved sword and her face twisted into a fierce sneer. "And I am sick out of patience!" She swung her blade in an arc, slicing through Envy's neck. Envy threw his hands up to his throat, gasping as he fell to his knees." Tori vanished her blade and turned around, not bothering to look at Jade for the moment. "Let's go, Jade."
"Tori? Jade hurried up next to her and the group began walking. Jade's voice trembled. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean-"
"It's fine, really." She wasn't intending to be so terse, but she had more than enough of Hell's bag of tricks. "It wasn't your fault. The Seven go for the one they feel is the most influenced by their trick. For you, it was Envy." Jade let out a sigh and opened her mouth, but immediately closed it. "If you have something to say, say it."
"No, I don't have anything to say. Glad you're not mad at me."
"If I had to be mad at anyone, it's Salim and the Seven. There's more important things than being mad at you for letting Envy get control of you." She took a deep breath and scanned the horizon with her eyes. "Anyway, the other four fought someone whose power and skill is almost on par with Samil's. That means we really have to bring it when we fight him."
She heard Sinjin mutter and looked over to see him shaking his head. "I can't believe there's another universe where I'm evil."
"We all have someone." Victoria flashed through her mind and her heart clenched in her chest. The fight with the woman scared her, but not so much as it made her realize that she truly couldn't fight someone stronger by herself. "When we go up against Samil, we have to do this together, because if we try to fight him alone we won't make it."
"Then let's do what we did when we fought Wrath," Robbie suggested. Tori stopped and turned towards him. She brought her eyebrows together and tucked the corners of her mouth back into her cheeks. "If we run into another of the Seven, which surely we will, then let's plan a team attack on them."
"Right." Strategy and planning were going to be vital in any fight, but in a place as unpredictable as Hell, it was going to be tough. "I still haven't been able to think of how we can utilize Cat's power." Cat straightened out the hem of her skirt and hummed for a moment.
"I'm not sure," she answered, "I don't think transforming into one of the Seven is a good idea. Transforming into Samil is also incredibly dangerous and strenuous on me."
"What if you tried something safer?" Sinjin curled a finger over his chin, then whisked it away with a sigh. "Transform into the fallen that we fought in that cave."
"Your other? I guess I can try that." Cat took a deep breath and began to transform. Tori took a step back while watching the girl grow tall and masculine, her hair turned to shoulder length blonde curls and her clothes changed to a long black cloak. She opened her eyes and spread her black wings out wide.
Sinjin shuddered and turned away. "I can't believe…he looks like another realm Angel of Death, but there's only one of those and that's Samil."
"True." Cat flew up into the sky. "He's got a lot of the same powers though." A spear of shadows formed in Cat's hand and a flicker of delight shone in her eyes. She threw the spear far into the distance and giggled. Sinjin's eyes widened and Tori stifled a laugh.
"I'm not sure what's worse!" He cried out. "That's another version of me, or you just giggled using my voice!" Cat flapped her wings and lowered herself to the ground.
"Using his memory, I think I can change to other people. Those that fought him, and you'd be amazed to hear the powers. Beck and Jade have kind of the same stuff, but Robbie in this other universe is from some psychic realm and is really strong." Robbie's eyebrows shot up and the others turned to him with a growing sense of curiosity. "Then there's Andre, who has the power of fire. Tori and Trina are from the Light Dominion, and Mr. Vega's the head angel there-the actual King David."
"Damn." Andre bowed his head and chuckled. "I wish I could have known what that universe was like."
"Apparently there were all these different planets, all these different worlds, and we were all from these worlds-gifted with the abilities of our people. We had to fight the Angel of Death even there, but for a somewhat different reason it seems." Cat spread her arms out and transformed once more.
Tori held her breath and watched as the image of her sister appeared in place. "Why did you change?" She furrowed her brow and looked up and down Cat's new form. This form of Trina was wearing a long white robe, had a sharper gaze and a golden headband running around her head like a crown.
"You and Trina both have these adornments and stuff. You're full angel, Trina was half angel and half slayer. That meant Trina was a warrior angel." A sword appeared in Cat's hand, and her lips turned to a smirk. "With a devastating unbreakable sword to cut through anything."
"Show us."
"Okay." Cat pointed to a stone pillar nearby. "See that?" Tori turned her head and nodded. Her friend sprouted a pair of white wings and flew to the pillar, swinging the blade with a powerful shout. In an instant the sword sliced through the pillar as though it were butter.
Tori's jaw dropped and the others murmured their astonishment as the upper half of the pillar collapsed onto the ground. Cat then begun to transform once more into Robbie. "Now what?" Robbie beckoned.
"This is the other Robbie, the Robbie of that world." She spread her feet out on the ground and smirked as she extended her hands. Her fingers curved upwards and a sudden force struck the group. Tori felt a rush of fear as her body lifted up from the ground. She glanced down, screaming out as her body continued to rise.
"Okay! You can put us down now!"
"Sorry!" She released them carefully onto the ground and Tori shook herself. "They all have weaknesses though, very lethal weaknesses. That's the kick. However, with this knowledge I have a whole group of people I can use to help beat Samil."
"That's good. We can use that." Tori glanced to Andre for a second and frowned. "I don't suppose the other Andre's fire abilities would do any good here." Cat returned to her normal form and shook her head.
"I doubt it." Cat was covered in sweat, and panting heavily from exhaustion. She cleared her throat and pat the sweat down from her arms. "I can't be transforming so much." She looked over to Beck and snapped her fingers. "Oh Beck! The other form of you is amazing." He raised an eyebrow and tilted his head to the right. "From the Elemental Realm. You have claws like Wolverine from the X-Men, but also control over all six elements. Light, Dark, Water, Fire, Air, Earth. During the big fight with the angel of darkness, you were able to dispel some of his dark powers and counter using light properties."
Beck's jaw fell and Tori grunted. Now she had an idea of what Cat could do to contribute, she could use this apparent other version of Beck and fight with those six elements. Along with Jade's storm powers, those elemental abilities could very well make Cat one of the most fearsome fighters in their group.
"Use that!" Tori proclaimed with excitement. Cat bounced on her feet and grinned widely as Tori pointed at her. "If you use that form of Beck, I think you'd make a very powerful force against Samil." Any of them seemed powerful enough, really, but none so great sounding as the Elemental Realm. "Robbie's other is good too, you could likely use the psychic powers to better stop Samil's wings when he's flying off."
"Okay."
"Right. So if that's powerful enough to hold him in place, we can hope, then Jade can likely summon up a storm to freeze that scythe of his and we can try and shatter it." Things were looking much more doable now than they had been a moment ago. She was actually happy they ran into this angel of darkness in the cave, it gave them a great amount of ammunition. "With that, let's keep walking. We can figure a strategy on the way…"
Cat discovered some use from the fight of the fallen angel, making her that much stronger. Envy's dead and the group is getting closer to Samil.
