Chapter 19: Love confessions
A week at that majestic island and Misaki was thinking that she can spend her entire life there, all that she needed was already there, a home, and her husband! A week was all that she needed to know that what she felt in the very beginning of this arranged relation was completely wrong! They wouldn't need to work through anything; they had already worked through everything within their minds and hearts and now the only thing remaining was for the words to work through their mouths and out in the open for the other to hear.
A week was all it took Takumi to know that never again would he be able to sleep without Misaki in his arms and he was sure if Misaki said once more that she wanted to spend all her life right here on this island he would do just that. Right now he was pretty much sure he would do any – freaking – thing if Misaki wanted it!
"Where can we go now?" they had spent the days touring the feasible areas of the island and nights in each other's arms and most of the mornings as well.
"We have seen almost all of it, so nothing new to look but the beach I wanted to take you to, we'll go there tonight but as I remember you said you wanted to return to more than one place when we went sight – seeing. So what place do you want to go back to?"
"The waterfalls." She was lit up like a four year kid handed candy.
"Then waterfalls it is."
At the waterfalls they were enjoying a swim and picnic when she sighed loudly and said; " I wish we could just stay here!"
"If that's what you want." Takumi said quietly.
"What do you mean?" she was genuinely confused.
"You have made your love for this place quite clear so if you want I can try and we can spend the rest of our lives here." He was very serious, his face indicated it. But his wife laughed; laughed so hard that it was infectious and he couldn't help but chuckle along.
"What? Why are you laughing? I'm serious!"
"Yes I'm sure you are serious, and thanks for the offer but no, I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life here. Let's keep the magic of this place intact, if I stay here forever I'm not sure I'll be able to appreciate its beauty fully. As planned this will be our holiday retreat!"
"Are you sure?"
"More than sure; and moreover we have our established lives back home, no matter how much in love I am with this place I couldn't actually call it home. I'll miss all of our family and friends way too much."
"Yeah that's true." He then sat on a huge stone and pulled Misaki next to him.
"Thanks by the ways, for making everything so special."
"I think I should thank you for making my life special; I didn't think I could actually feel so happy over anything after losing mom, dad and Gerard. But thanks to you Misaki, it feels that there is some worth in living." That was the most emotional thing she'd ever heard him say, it was proof enough that the confidence she had on their relationship being long lasting was not one sided. For now these words were as good as 'I love you(s)' they wanted to say.
So to show her appreciation she pushed him to lay him flat on his back on the not so flat boulder and climbed atop him, kissed his chest several times and ran her hands through his hair all in preparation to say the magic words but before she could speak he held her face and fused her lips with his.
That evening they were both sitting in front of the TV not really watching when a maid entered the room and addressed Takumi, "Sir, the arrangements are done as requested."
"Everything?"
"Yes sir, would you wish the take the food basket or should I get it delivered there?"
"No it's fine, don't bother. I'll take it." At this the maid left the room.
"Another picnic?" Misaki asked.
"Sort of, something you are going to love." He tapped her nose lightly, got up and said, "Get ready, it's a date!"
Misaki smiled, a date was the perfect way to end the relaxing lovely day.
An hour later they were walking down the beach, one which they hadn't been to before. He was wearing white slacks and a dark blue t-shirt with flip flops and she was wearing a green sundress with white flip flops. She could see a huge tree lit from the distance like hundreds of fireflies were sitting on its leaves and branches. She ran the remaining distance, delight on seeing the beautifully lit tree was obvious on her face.
"This is beautiful Takumi."
"It'll be prettier when it's completely dark. Until then let's enjoy the sunset."
They carefully set up the blanket and picnic, got their champagne glasses filled and sat as close as possible. Talked at times; at times remained silent being completely comfortable with either. They ate but little, Misaki was far too excited and Takumi far too nervous. When there was complete darkness she could see flurry of activity near the water as they were quite far from it, they were within the shadows of the trees but could see the dark expanse across from them clearly, it was a full moon after all.
"Takumi I think there are people over there." She pointed towards the water.
"Yeah they are our staff. I had told them to come. Come let's go there." He took her hand and they left their blanket and went near the ocean edge.
"What are they doing?"
"Setting up the final stage for our date."
"Ooohhh I see."
"No, you'll see. After."
"After? After what?"
"After this…" he took her hands in his and got down on his knees. For a few seconds the world stood still for Misaki. She was sure what was next to come subconsciously but still was not sure she knew what was going on. Until he started speaking.
"Misaki, we have known each other all our lives and I think I have never imagined a single time when I hadn't included you in my joy or sorrow. You have changed me in ways which were never possible I thought. (He kissed her hands once) And after years of being with you and knowing you and finally marrying you it dawned upon me that I really can't live without you. That I've needed you more than anything and still had not known how much, at least not until the day you threatened you won't ever talk to me again (she chuckled once remembering their (that particular, as there were many) fight). You have made me impossibly angry at times, and you are the one who holds power to make me weak, you can reduce me to a jealous teenager, and make me as big an idiot to try jelly with jalapeño, just for the record it tasted horrible. (She fell on her knees, tears streaming down her face, he wiped them softly). You made me worried sick when you had that accident (she chuckled and sobbed slightly together) and when you went alone for that trip you had me at furious, I still remember us fighting in the middle of the road…"
"I cried a lot after that fight. I knew you were right and justified for being angry at me, but with everyone angry I thought you would at least take my side." She smiled through her tears telling this.
"I am sorry but I was scared so was everyone and then you did make me angry, but I shouldn't have fought with you, at least not for the entire world to see." He wiped her tears again and continued,
"But I remember the day we first met and you said that 'we should be friends'; and I remember the day at the school rooftop when you said 'I'll have you no matter what' and I also remember the day when you told me 'I will always be right as long as I believed in myself'. And today I know that I am right, because (he dropped her hands and cupped her face instead) Misaki, I believe I'm in love with you. And I've been in love with you all along and I should have told you this a long time ago but better late than never; I love you Misaki, so much."
She had silent tears running down her cheeks and at the periphery she could see the servants cheering and clapping but her entire being was attuned to the face in front of her, slowly she raised her hands, cupped his face and got their foreheads touching,
"I believe you are right again Takumi because I love you, I have loved you for so long I can't remember. Now be a good husband and kiss me." They both chuckled and he obliged, this kiss had a new meaning to it somehow, not that their earlier kisses and touches were less meaningful but now, they knew that their want of loving and being loved was not one sided. Of course it was a new surge of happiness which was coursing through their veins and pouring out through their lips, just as they parted for a breath they heard the fireworks in the dark sky. They both smiled and looked at the fireworks for a very long time right there in each other's arms.
They were both silent after their confession for a long time because words weren't required and wouldn't suffice, they walked back to the house hand in hand and silently looked in each other's eyes,
"I love you!" he said pulling her hair tie to let her hair loose.
"I love you!" she pulled at his hair and attached her lips to his.
A/N: So? So? How was it? Finally they told each other, well I always wanted Takumi to be more verbal about it so this is what I wrote, after all most of my story is through Misaki's perspective. I would like to thank everyone who had read this story and supported and loved it!
