NO ONE ELSE IS GOTTA BE YOU
(CASSIE'S POV)
"Now what? Paul and Rachel will be here any, any second!" I shouted and woke all of them.
"Why don't you just chill it down?" Hayley said, sleepily.
"Oh yeah, chill it down? Chill it down?" I asked or better say, shouted.
"WHAT DID YOU GIRLS DO TO MY HOUSE?" Rachel screeched from the doorway. Oh shit! We're dead.
"Rachel calm down." I said. "We'll clear this mess." I assured her and that second, when I had just finished my sentence, she dropped on the floor.
"What happened to her?" Paul snarled at me.
"I don't know!" I answered. By this time, we had shifted all of the other girls to Sam's place.
LINE BREAK
Sue was there in the room with Rachel. Although she's not a doctor but you know, even nurses might help and are the most helpful. Paul was bouncing back and forth and all of us were really, really tensed.
"Paul, she will be okay. I know you're worried but I am sure she is okay." I assured him. Frankly speaking, even I was worried. Rachel is like my elder sister. (Well, not exactly because she is my brother's imprint and she says that she sees a little Rebecca in me).
"I don't know Cassie." He said. My poor brother.
"Paul if my sister is not okay, you be ready for it." Jake entered the house. I slapped my forehead. I knew Paul won't really react right now but once everything is okay, they would fight.
"Paul, you are going to have to act a little mature from now." Sue said when she came out.
"What? Why? What happened?" Paul shot.
"You are going to become a dad in a few months." Sue said.
"What?!" Paul said.
Oh my god!
Yay!
My brother is going to become a dad!
I am going to have a niece or nephew!
"Bro, congratulations!" I said and shook him because I guess he was lost for a second.
"Guys, he took away Hale." Seth came in through the doorway.
"What?!" I shouted.
"He kidnapped her!" Seth replied.
"Now, what do we do?" Paul asked.
"Meeting." Sam said.
Some minutes later, almost all of us were there in the woods and so were the Cullens. Rosalie was with the big, beary, black haired one. The little pixie – Alice was with the blond haired guy and square jaw, I mean Edward was with her chick- Bella. Renesmee as always was sticking to Jake. Sam and Jake were in human forms while the others were in wolf forms. I was standing next to Brady's warm, furry front limb. I think I was hyperventilating and that was the reason everyone was asking me to calm down. How really could I calm down when I knew how dangerous my father is?
"I just had a vision. Hayley is with… I mean I couldn't see him but I could see the warmth, the fire that I see every time Cassidy is in my vision. So, I think Theo has her."Alice said.
"So, you mean to say that it is sure he is Cassie's dear daddy?" Jake questioned.
"Kind of like and you know, I see him going near the tribe." Alice added. My cell buzzed in my pocket.
"Ex…excuse me." I said and saw the call. I didn't know who it was. It was kind of a blocked id number. That's why I turned it on to speaker.
"Hello?" I asked.
"My dear daughter, Cassidy, oh…sorry Cassie, right?" this was the reply.
"Who are you?"
"Someone you know very-very well and may even call dad."
"I won't call you dad! Where is Hayley?!"
By this time, everyone had turned quiet and was listening to my conversation with Theo.
"That is a bad manner to behave with your father, Cassidy. Did your mom teach you nothing?"
"Look, my mom taught me very good manners and one of that says that I need to know where is my best friend, you get that!?"
"Wow, you are really angry. I thought we could talk like a father-daughter, you know."
"I asked 'WHERE IS HAYLEY JENNINGS?'"
"Cassie, just don't…don't come here." Hayley's voice creaked.
"Hayley, we are coming to save you. Just don't worry." I said.
"So, you are BFFs. Valerie told me that."
"What do you want?" I asked.
"You, my dear. You are what I want."
"Why?"
"You already know the reasons…. Well, if you don't want to come, I can send my…"
"No, I…I will come on my own. Provided you release her."
"Why do I trust you... oh, yeah, I remember what Valerie told me about imprinting and that kid- Seth is your friend and I also remember you mom has taught you never to turn your back on your friends."
"You trust me, right? Where do you want me?"
"The clearings near the treaty line of the Cullens and the tribe."
"I will be there." I said and hung up.
"I have a plan." Sam added. I looked into Brady's eyes.
"It is a good idea indeed, Sam." Edward added. I guess he had read his thoughts.
"May be even I have one." I said. "I think we need half of you guys to guard the tribe, anyway because I know how dangerous Theo can be. He already has a vampire army with him."
"I think that is better." Carlisle said.
"Go on." Sam asked me to finish what I had to say.
"So, I was saying you guys, I mean almost all of you, stay near the tribe and the Forks area and guard it. Seth and I will go to the clearings for Hayley. When he leaves Hayley, I will run back too." I said. Brady growled at me. I knew, I mean I had an idea what he wanted to say.
"Brady says that it is way too risky for you and he wants to come with you and Seth." Edward told me. Bingo, I got it right.
"And…you think I am letting you kids to go on yourself? I am going with you." Jake said.
"No, I think all of us shouldn't go. It is risky!" I shouted. I was still hyperventilating.
"Paul says he too wants to go." Edward said.
"Oh! Shut up all of you!" Sam alpha-ordered. "It's just Cassie, Brady, Seth and Jake going."
"Thanks." I said to Sam. "Look guys, just all of you run back to the Rez and take care of it. We will get back Hayley."
My stomach twisted as I walked along Brady's side. He still had his grim-puppy look on his face that is what I could conclude.
"I hope everything goes well and according to our plan." I said. The silence between these wolves was deafening. None of them spoke except me; neither did they shake their face nor nod, so that I could actually feel a bit confident. I actually felt like I was going to surely die; really, really die.
"Why doesn't anyone of you even growl or something?" I inquired. My voice was shaking and I knew I was drop dead scared. "Am I an idiot who is speaking to herself?"
And Brady was the one to answer. He growled at me and that too angrily. I knew he wanted to say: do you know who's really stupid? Go and look in a mirror.
We reached the clearing and I saw Theo standing near a tree and Hayley was tied there. I had seen him after about seven years or maybe six. I was scared. His eyes were crimson but I remembered they had been sapphire blue like mine.
"Ah, Cassidy!" he said and was opening Hayley. Seth was about to charge but he stopped when I said:
"Seth, no. He can hurt Hayley." I said. He nodded and came back to his place.
"Send Hayley." I said.
"First you start. One step taken by you and the same by her." he said.
"Okay." I answered. I remembered the strategy. When Hayley reaches half way, she is supposed to run and I have to throw a fireball and run back and let the wolves take him. Well, this was our strategy but then I saw vampires behind him in the woods coming out to the clearing.
I walked and looked into Hayley's eyes, she saw me. I made a lip-sync.
Run.
She shook her head. I said that again in lip-sync.
Run!
She started running. Plan A was successful. I saw back and waited for two seconds till my hand could finally attain the heat needed to make a fireball and it went straight on Theo and he fell behind. I saw many vampires disassembling. Hayley ran straight onto Seth's back and Seth ran away and then half of the wolves came to help us. I tried to run but I was late. Then Brady came between Theo and me. Then, Theo had his hands on the ground and…
It blasted.
I fell straight with Brady and my arms were near his fur. I moved and saw him. I knew I could hold it no more. It pained, it pained like I would die any second. My hands couldn't move even if I wished to move them. Brady's eyes were closed and mine were half open and then, they closed. I could feel my heart beat stop when someone started dragging me.
MAYBE THIS WAS MY END.
(BRADY'S POV) two days later…
I remembered her scared yet confident face that gave all of us courage; those blue eyes, when they were giving the most confident replies to all of us and telling us not to be scared. I remembered that perfect arm against my fur before…
I opened my eyes although I felt weak for the first time after I had started phasing. I didn't know why but every single thing that happened before the land blasted came in front of my eyes. I sat up in the bed. Seth and Paul were there in the same room with Carlisle who was checking my pulse.
My pulse? What for?
Just then I remembered…CASSIE!
"Guys, where's Cassie?" I asked both of them. My stomach twisted and my mouth turned dry.
"Brady, you better have rest." Carlisle said while both of them had their mouths shut.
"I asked something!"
"Look, you better stay in the bed." Seth said.
"I asked 'WHERE IS MY CASSIE?" I yelled. I jumped out of that stupid bed and stood up. I caught Paul's collar with my hand that wasn't in a sling.
"WHERE IS SHE, PAUL?!" I bawled.
"She…she's gone." He answered looking down.
"What does 'she's gone' mean?" I asked. My stomach again twisted and it felt like my soul had been taken away. I left him and threw away the sling and ran upstairs to her room.
She can't be gone. She just can't leave me like this.
I could hear Rachel and Cassie's mom crying in that room till I opened the door. They were there, crying watching her albums. I fell on my knees.
"She can't leave me like this." I said and couldn't control myself. I wiped my tears and ran outside the house. I took off my shirt and phased. I ran to the clearing where I had last seen her. I knew I could find her still. She was there. She hasn't gone. She will never leave me like this.
But she wasn't there. I then heard Cole in my brain.
Look, Brady calm down. - Cole.
Where is she? – Me.
She is gone. – Cole.
SHE IS NOT! SHE IS STILL WITH ME! SHE IS HERE. YOU PEOPLE DIDN'T FUCKING FIND HER PROPERLY. I KNOW SHE IS HERE! – I growled and ran to the Cullens side of treaty. I ran around but couldn't see her but I was sure she was here. She was.
Brady, come back. – Sam.
I won't before I don't find her! – Me.
That is an order! – Jake.
I won't listen to you! – Me.
Brady, calm down. – Jared.
Oh yeah? Should I? You people don't care because she didn't mean anything to you but to me; she is my life. – Me.
I don't know how but all of them made me phase back showing me some visualization where she and I were together. Cole and Sam caught me and pulled me to Sam's place.
"Leave me!" I shouted. "I've gotta find my imprint, right now!"
"Brady, she has died. She is gone forever. We won't be able to find her now." Paul said. I pushed away Cole and got up.
"She isn't dead and I know you don't care because she was just your step sister!" I shouted.
"Brady don't! She meant more than a step sister to me and I never thought of her as that and you know that!"
"I don't know any of that. I just want her!" I pushed Sam too and ran away again.
I phased again. I now heard Seth.
Brady, look, come back. – Seth.
It was all because of you. – Me.
What was because of me? – Seth.
It was because of you and Hayley. She is gone because of her. – Me.
Brady… - Seth.
Have anything to say? – Me.
I ran along the Canadian borders and I just wanted to stay alone or I just wanted her. I remembered the songs she sang, the way she used to get angry at me, every time she smiled because of me, every time she laughed at something I said and most of all, her smile and her pretty blue eyes.
NO ONE ELSE WAS GOTTA BE HER
And I knew this but I knew that she wasn't dead too. I was going to find her….
I returned back to their place and went straight to her room. I saw her personal diary on her desk. I was going to open it when I heard her voice:
Don't open it. It has really personal stuff. I literally saw her standing by the bed in the same clothes as that day when I first touched her diary but I still opened it. On the first page, there was a poem on life.
Is life a game?
Some ups and maybe, many-a-times,
Some fame…
Sometimes in stardust,
Sometimes totally into the rust….
Sometimes a calm sea,
Sometimes a storm it can be…
When it all comes to an end,
And this life starts giving
A curving bend…
It stops forever,
And starts again never…
The sand in the hour glass moves really fast,
So live each day, as though it were your last.
(AN: This is my personal piece of work)
This is what Cassie thinks at times.
I told you not to open it! But if you have, you can read it. I again heard her voice. This diary is actually something that I won't let go because it connects me to her.
But she is gone. I have to believe it one way or another. Nothing is left for me, nothing. I know I need to overcome this but I just can't. It feels like a hole in my heart that is becoming larger every second. Every second she is not with me.
I went out. I just couldn't bear hearing her mom crying and the other imprints too. It killed me somewhere. I phased again. I wanted to go away, away from everyone. I just need her, no one else….
It had been two weeks or more since I was alone. I didn't talk to my brothers but they knew that where I was.
Brad, come back. It was Mark.
Mark, please don't ask me to come back. – Me.
Mom is really worried and so is dad. Just come back once and meet them. I won't stop you then. – Mark.
Mom was crying like anything what Mark showed me. Dad was confused how to tackle mom.
Look, not for anyone but for Cassie. When she knows what you are doing, she won't be really happy with that. She would run after you with a fork in her hand like last time when you by mistake dropped ketchup on her top. – Mark.
I remembered that. She was helping me with the orders and had taken a break. She was eating vegetable lasagna and I was eating it with her. I was having it difficult to open the packet of ketchup and whoosh! There it was. I still don't remember why I was opening it. I laughed and felt a bit better.
I am coming back. – Me.
That's like my boy! – Mark.
Shut up idiot. I am still your elder brother! – Me.
He laughed and I ran back.
That's like my boyfriend. It was a week since I last heard her. Yes, it was her again. she was there, back with me.
(Italics – Cassie, bold – Brady) [As per Brady's imagination]
Cassie?
Yep, it's me. Back again.
I could see her, walking with me as I walked slowly.
Where were you all these days?
You didn't see me. I was always near you.
Oh yeah, right. Were you?
You just didn't have the vision to see me properly.
Did I need something like that pixie sucker does?
Well… maybe, Maybe not.
Why are you being so diplomatic?
I am not being diplomatic.
That's what you are doing.
Yeah, whatever. Can you do me a favor?
Anything.
Please be human form and just don't phase. Be with your mom. She'll like your being with her and tell my mom that she can remember me whenever she wants.
Why don't you do that yourself?
Just you are the one who can see me. She had tears in her eyes.
Hey, don't cry. C'mon, is that you have to do when you have to talk to me?
Okay, okay. I am not crying. Just go back, be there. I promise I'll be with you.
Sure?
Yeah, promise.
I went back to my room and got some cut offs on. Well, I know mom has seen me naked but I was small then and please, I have some self respect. I went down to the living room and saw my parents who were too overjoyed to have me back. Cassie and Paul's parents were there too, sharing sorrows with mine. At least they can if I cannot. Okay, so anyway I took a good decision to wear clothes.
"You guys called me?" I asked.
"Brady, it's been two weeks." Dad said.
"Two weeks since what?" I asked casually.
The discussion went on and I kept my mouth shut and then finally, mom came to the topic:
"Brady, you are looking after the new coffee shop." She ordered.
WHAT?!
"What?!" I played my reactions again, out aloud.
Cool, that's sounds good. Cassie spoke by my side.
"That's not cool." I told her, I mean Cassie.
"That is an order." Mom said.
"I wasn't saying that to you mom but seriously, I am not interested. I mean c'mon, I have a lot more things to do." I said.
"Brady?" mom opened her eye tap and on my side, Cassie said:
Brady, if you won't listen to her, I won't talk to you, I won't come to you, I won't…
"Urgh!" I shouted.
"You're not going to?" mom asked her eyes were going to provide water supply to our city today.
You do or you know…
One thing you know is that you can never think of escaping from a situation where you are surrounded all the sides by estrogen.
"Okay!" I gave the final answer.
Oh c'mon! Why is she bossing around like that?
I am not bossing around. I am just telling you what is right for you and what is not! She said and had puckered her nose.
Can I….? I was going to ask if I could just ploop it.
Don't even think of it.
What are you?!
Your girlfriend and imprint.
You are impossible.
Impossible itself says: I'm possible.
Where am I hitting my head?
With me, if you might have a short termed memory.
Cassie!
What?
Kiss me and go.
Forget it till you don't start looking after your mom's coffee shop.
There she is back, one of the most stubborn people you could've ever seen on this planet.
